I like a good P&J sammach but also a salami, cheese with hotdog relish. Sometimes the salami or cheese becomes bait when it’s slow. Even the panfish has gourmet tastes.

When I fish, I ain’t got time to feed
pb and j is one of my favorites, but like you I like salami and other meaty sandwiches.
For some reason, I phase out eating altogether while fishing. It’s after the fishing I suddenly realize I’m hungry. ?
probably a subway, jimmy johns, or sheetz(local gas station/food mart) cold sub. Sheetz the most because they are open 24 hours and they will make an m.t.o italian sub at 4:30am when Im getting gas and headed to the highway to go to a lake. I only bring something if it's the weekend and can spend 8-12 hours fishing. I hit the rivers for an hour or two every weekday evening, I may miss 1 day total in a week during spring and summer, depends what shift Im working for which hour or two I get to fish . Gotta have my Turner's(local) Iced Tea, will settle out of court for Arizona Iced Tea. I like tea while fishing because it tastes ok warm after the ice in the cooler melts. I hate drinking warm water. There are a couple lakes I will come off the water for 60-90 minutes to eat lunch in a good homestyle restaurant I really like. But normally I pack something. Im a candy nut and keep sweetart ropes and filled twizzlers for some sugar burst of energy. I dont do energy drinks like my fishing buddies. Deer jerky during ice fishing season is a must have snack.
Can of Vienna sausage, hot sauce and soda crackers
If we’re in a rented boat my energy would level drop quick when casting being a diabetic. Even if I’m out shore fishing. A coffee and a donut or muffin helps before fishing.
Beef Jerky.
I seldom eat when on the water but in case I get hungry, I always bring a couple of Cliff’s bars and some water.
Protein bars and cheese and crackers that usually get eaten on the way back to the dock
Bananas only when on a boat.
Oakridge marina. Salad bar & cheeseburger
baloney sammich

Yea boy !!!!!
My wife usually packs me homemade tacos. Eggs, bacon and potatoes with some hot sauce. Plenty of water, apples, protein bars and Powerade. I don't play....10-12 hrs in the FL sun ain't no joke.

Vienna sausage? I haven’t those in ages and loved eating them as a kid. Note to self - couple cans of Vienna sausages next fishing trip. I know, some people think of them as something gross to eat, but that just means more for me, lol.
PB&J most of the time. I'd rather eat beef jerky but I couldn't afford to eat it every time I go fishing.
Usually a sandwich of some kind, I also usually stop some place on the way to the lake.
Boudin! ?
Sponsored by Jack Links. I usually have a large variety on board. If I'm fishing a tournament, I'll usually put a couple bags on every boat I can get to. I've had strangers motor up to my boat and ask me for a bag.
Some kind of fruit. A lot of the food mentioned above aggravates my heartburn.

same!
I thought I was the only one
Type 2 also....got have the food. Sandwich of some kind....apple....banana if avail...granola bars...Arnold Palmers...maybe chunk of cheese...boiled eggs too if avail. Taking a bite or two gives me a chance sometimes to just look around and "Smell the Roses" as they say!!

Same here. I like the Nut Butter Clif bars best. I also carry a Hydro Flask insulated water bottle full of ice water. Stays cold my whole trip.

Bro ... that's a cardinal sin !!!!!!!!!
NO BANNANAS ON THE BOAT WHILE FISHING!!!!!!
So when I first started fishing my dumb@55 would bring a bottle of water, thats it..
Then i'd realize i'm about to die by the time im getting off the water
so I started keeping small carby snacls
Combos, crackers, on weekends I swing by this gas station, make a good bacon/egg/cheese sandwhich.
I want a yeti cooler for those long days but waiting for price to go down!
The whole banana thing started because they often have spiders hiding in the bunches. Bad thing on a ship. My uncle ran a salmon charter, and he would throw you off the boat if you brought one on.
I'm a granola bar guy. Easy to mow down, and keep fishing.
I always eat before I go out....and take a couple granola bars along....and usually they are the same couple that I took previous time out, because I forget to eat most of the time. As long as I have 2-3 bottles of water, I'm good.

You're a fiction writer, right? :-)
Fried chicken from the deli. I like the thighs best, but chicken fingers are less messy in the boat. + a couple waters, Gatorade, and a big Payday.

Those things never go on sale.
You can always get one of the cheaper knockoffs from RTIC or ORCA. SO what if they only hold ice for 8 days instead of 10 like the Yeti. For a day trip on the boat they are fine. Use the money saved to buy a new rod and a Yeti Sticker to slap on the knockoff.
PB Crackers and some jerky are always staples on my boat. Dont really want to stop and eat lunch when I can snack and keep fishing.
@MickD No sir, more of a bio haha. When she doesn't wake up in time she'll meet us at the ramp with food later on in the morning.

yeah man, ill def check out the knockoffs, i dont need multi day ice crap i did like that they are super durable and i can sit and step on them though
normally grab a bag of cajun flavored trail mix before i leave and a few bottles of water
My best memories from childhood are of my dad and I going and we would stop by my grandfather's store and get a couple cans of Beanie Weenies and saltines with a couple Little Debbie oatmeal pies.
I take nothing but a small cooler with water and occasionally a couple beers. I might take a granola bar if I'm going to be there a long time and I might start with one cup of coffee if I go really early. I can't help but think the times my hands are busy with food and drink are the times my PB would have bitten if I'd had a hook in the water.
Turkey or Chicken sandwich, bag of chips.

Those Ozark Trail coolers at WalMart are solid too, I've got one and like it.
can always depend on this site for good advice 100
Usually a Nurti-grain bar or granola bar in the morning. And then I bring Swedish Fish or those Trolli multicolored crawler worms to snack on throughout the day, because, you know, I'm still a kid at heart...

Put one of those on a hook. I caught a bass on a store brand Gummy Worm knockoff just to prove I could.
I never understood the whole "no bananas on the boat" thing. How do you think bananas get here? ON BOATS!!! Ask Harry Belafonte. He'll tell ya. DAY-O! If they make the journey they must be lucky. As far as lunch goes, fish sandwich, fish sticks and Swedish fish. It scares the bass when they see what might happen to them.

One of the best deals I ever got on a cooler was my Coleman Super Oscar. I bought it in about 1980, and it's still in the garage right now. Just this summer one of the rivets holding the handle broke, and I'm going to figure out a way to repair it. We have been all over the Rocky Mountain West together over the last 37 years. For a relatively cheap small cooler (couldn't have cost more than $20 new), it has been a rock - served as food storage and camp stool on too many overnighters to count. I'd buy a new one if they still existed. Nothing that Coleman offers today even comes close.
If you look closely at this photo you can see the red top of the cooler in the bed behind the driver's seat. That is my 1980 Toyota 4x4 which I owned from '82-'89, and the cooler is the same one I'm still using.
Cliff Bar & a Cheese Stick is a standard ~
And if I feel like really splurging and they're open when I go by, a Foot Long Subway Melt on Wheat with Double Meat is pretty Killer.

From what I understand it's a fishing superstition not for all boats. I asked a guy I work with you was in the Navy and he had never heard of it. I've only heard fisherman talk about it.
Navy guys? @A-Jay ? Bananas on boats?

U.S. Coast Guard guys? @A-Jay ? Bananas on boats?
First off - I fixed that one for you ~
Second, as to "the Myth" - back in the day of sailing ships - old timey sailors avoided bananas on boats because they emit Ethylene which causes other fruits around them to ripen quickly (and then to rot). Which on a long voyage is not good.
Also I think there was a highly venomous "banana spider' that hid in the bunches & was killing deck hands on these ships as well.
Can't say how that turned into a "Bad Luck" thing.

Perhaps J, but I think the spider thing was an actual deal too.
btw - I eat a banana with breakfast Almost Every Day - except the mornings I'm going fishing - then it's something else.
Yup - I'm a freak.

What I was going for is asking the Navy guys, and asking you because I knew you were USCG. After looking at it I see where the confusion could arise from my post. No harm no foul.

Ya ~ You know what it's like . . . . .
I think next season I'm going to have a banana at the ready and when I hook up I'll start the GoPro and stuff the banana in my pie hole . . .
May not even peel it first.
I can already tell - It's gonna be a long cold winter.

Lol! I hear ya. More snow and colder than normal is their prediction for us. Better bundle up.
Soon enough you'll have DD bass and margaritas in your hand. ?
I looked up the bannana on a fishing boat myth and there is lots of ideas on where that came from. Both ideas that were mentioned above and about a dozen others, most of which make very little sense! One of them was that bannanas ripen quickly so the boat carrying them had to travel fast and therefore you didn't usually catch fish....and one was that the crew would slip and fall on the bannana peels and be injured, (classic Mario cart scene right there) There is a myth saying that a boat full of bannanas had a strange bacteria that killed the whole crew.....the list goes on and on.
No slim Jim’s? Cheese sticks is a good one too the poly o cheese. I’d rather have half sammiches because a whole sammach takes too long to eat. A fish might strike. The best time to eat is when throwing a split shot rigged worm it’s the slowest presentation there is.
but the salami/cheese with the mustard/relish (hot dog relish) tastes great, no mayo in the heat.
yup changed the oil/filter in the jeep/plow, she’s a 55 and still fiesty for an old gal. Lots of snow? Maybe.
I forgot Vienna Sausages, too.
I'll generally get McD or something beforehand. I'm on foot so I don't carry much. If I get on a good bite I'll often stay out too long until I get loopy from not eating. I more than make up for it afterwards, though. I'll frequently stop at Steak'n Shake. Not the best nutrition, I know.
Vienna Sausage, orange nabs and a fly cake (little debbie raisin cream pie) for those from other parts of the world.
when I am in the boat I usually do not stop to eat a meal.
often times just snack on venison sticks throughout the day, with a Powerade or bottle of water.

I was told by a biology professor that the bananas are picked green and shipped to the US. Once here, they're packed into 18 wheeler trailers in a huge warehouse and the doors are left open. There ethylene is sprayed and they're shipped out early the next day so they start the ripening process right then. But it is correct that they'll help ripen other produce around them because they then have an extra dose of the natural plant hormone. If you pick something out of the garden too soon you can help it along by keeping it close to bananas.
muscle bars, power bars, things like that. water, gatorade.
Pop tarts and Gatorade, but I usually forget to eat the pop tarts.

Man, I just found a place up here that has it! It is a Texas bqq joint and the owner is from east Texas.
I almost never eat when I am fishing, I have a big breakfast and power through the day.
I rarely eat unless it is a 12 hour plus day and then I will usually just eat a protein bar. Sometimes i will take a hoagie with me though if i decide to pack a cooler for some reason. I usually don't want to stop and eat and since i am a kayak fisherman, it isn't like i can eat while moving from spot to spot.
With an 8 year old fishing partner, I ALWAYS have a small grocery stores worth of grub to keep him happy. If the action is good, I sometimes have to tell myself to stop and eat something, or else my little garbage compactor won't leave me anything to eat.
Coors Light
Water, clementines, granola bars... I'm typically the snack guy on the boat
Last time, I brought a pumpkin pie.
Monsters, Gatorade, and water for drinks
Lunchables (turkey and cheese) for lunch
Ritz crackers with cheese for a snack

Boudin might be messy, but smoked anduille halved lengthwise on some french bread with a dab of mayo might be a darn good snack out on the lake.
I usually bring a few protein bars and a bag of trailmix. And a lot of water bottles.
Burritos is a staple for me when I fish three bean and cheese from Taco Bell or dell taco usually with mild hot sauce or sometimes my wife makes egg and potatoe burritos I drink water most of the time.
Sando and Agua.
I rarely fish for more than 6 hours so it's usually just a cold breakfast sandwich and a PBR pounder. But while up at Rangeley lake salmon fishing with my girlfriend, she packed us salmon salad sandwiches w/cheese and spinach from the fish we caught the day before. That would have to be my favorite one time lunch.
I avoid anything sweet. Even most granola bars have too much sugar. I usually snack on salted peanuts, jerky, crackers, and Powerade Zero.
Tom
cold pizza all the way!!
I always eat a good breakfast and then on the boat it is:
Coffee, water and Jolly Ranchers.
Sometimes, a pepperoni roll makes it on there.

Somebody is spoiled rotten!
I can't even imagine what my wife would pack for me, probably some tofu, brown rice and something that tastes like dirt.
PB on toast usually. The sack lunch sits out for a while not refrigerated so that rules out meat. Once had to eat a hot dog bun with peanut butter in the middle of it during ice fishing season since we were out of bread lmao.
I have to eat to keep sugar levels up . I'm hypoglycemic . I'll take a sandwich and a bag of Snickers and nibble on it throughout the day .
I skip lunch every day so I can go fishing.
PB&J for me.
I always bring a Turkey sandwich, but I usually don't stop to eat it. I'll usually just eat beef jerky or some kind of cookies, so I don't have to stop fishing. The sandwich doesn't usually get eaten until the drive home in the truck.
I bring some cliff bars. I'm a fan of blue berry crisp.
On 11/8/2017 at 6:19 AM, UPSmallie said:PB on toast usually. The sack lunch sits out for a while not refrigerated so that rules out meat. Once had to eat a hot dog bun with peanut butter in the middle of it during ice fishing season since we were out of bread lmao.
I don't think you had to worry too much about your sandwich meat spoiling while ice fishing.
I packed a lunch for work for some 40 odd years with never a fridge available. Never had an issue with spoilage, even with meat and mayo. The lunch didn't sit out in the sun, but it was never in an air conditioned building either. A lot of sandwich meats are tougher than you think. When I've taken something like that out in the canoe, I usually have it in a small cooler (6 pack sized) with an apple and a soda.
I rarely leave the house without a container of water, and I have a jug just for days when I'm going to be away from civilization over lunch. Water is my drink of choice - I don't drink coffee or tea or iced tea. I limit myself to no more than one Diet Pepsi per day.
Beef Jerky and a Clif Bar!
The food don't really matter, but I try not to forget the sunflower seeds!
Cookies and Cream Quest bars. Unsweet tea brewed from bags at home. And maybe a couple honey crisp apples. I love honey crisp apples.
I’m a diabetic and to keep my sugar level up I carry chocolate but enjoy the pb&j sammich. I do get the weak feeling after so many casts.
When I rode dirtbikes we did three, hour and a half loops. At the end of each loop it was a pb&j sammich with chocolate. I had regular sugar soda just Incase my sugar went too low. Any exercise eats up sugar. After being a diabetic for 25 years type II my recent eye exam I was told my eyes look great for having diabetes for 25 years. Not everyone is the same but it works for me.
I take a pack of Fiorucci Panino Salami and cheese rolls, and Welch’s fruit snacks.
I also have a tournament tradition that I take 6 pack of Hostess powered donuts that I eat after I catch my first fish for breakfast.
I don't play! Homemade breakfast tacos. Love that wife ????
Viennas, deviled ham or potted meat, or beanee weenees, a sleeve of saltines, hot sauce and a couple bottles of water. Fish out a nice shady cove and then take a munchie break before heading to the next spot!
Forgot about Big Mama and Tijuana Mama pickled sausages! Got to have a couple of them!
I only pack a lunch if going all day. Black Coffee at home before leaving and at the store on the way.Usually a ham & cheese or turkey sammich , Snicker bar, honey bbq lays tater chips, Nabs , waters and a cherry coke zero to drink on the way home.
Had the urge for a banana on last week's salt water trip. I am 99 % not superstitious but I confess I did think about it when I bought it. After about an hour and a half of fishing and nothing but a shark and dinks being caught , I suddenly remembered the banana and ate it real quick. I threw the peel overboard .We ended up having a good day with some nice fish.
im a cliff bar and water guy. I typically dont eat much on the water. Bag of jerky usually sits in the glove compartment on boat as well.
Cuban. The original Tampa style - fresh Cuban bread, sliced ham, sliced roast pork, salami, cheese, mayo and mustard.
What the heck is a cliff bar ?
On 12/30/2017 at 9:11 PM, N Florida Mike said:What the heck is a cliff bar ?
It's like a Power Bar, but instead of being like kinda gross taffy, it is more like a kinda gross cookie.
New favorite......Had some ham for Christmas that I had put on BBQ to add a little smoke and flavor and put the leftover slices on some little soft buns with some mayo......mmmmmmmmmmmm
Nacho cheese crackers is usually what I eat. I have a pb&j onboard most times just don't manage to have time for it. Sometimes one of those Gatorade bars.
I usually bring beef jerky and chips.
On 11/9/2017 at 12:22 AM, Troy1985s said:The sandwich doesn't usually get eaten until the drive home in the truck.
I second this. Any time I make a sandwich it doesnt get eaten until the ride home. I usually dont bring a lunch. Plus my trips usually only go for about 6 hours at most. I just grab a bite to eat on my way out to the lake.
Whole wheat sandwich or a meal replacement bar.
