Just curious what you guys say when you hook up. For me it's mostly Got 'em, and an occassional fish on when I fish amongst salmon anglers. :
Mostly it is yes, but occasionally I will say got'em.
"There's one"
"Got one"
"There he is"
Sometimes I say nothing, my hookset is loud enough ;D
Typically I'll say "I'm on" or if it's a big one, "Get the net".
Like Matt said, sometimes the hookset says it all.
Falcon
Mine would be......."Thanks Brent!"
Actually, kind of not a joke. Erics kid Nicholas says .......

Quote"There's one"
This is what I say, but I cast my vote for "There he is" (I figured it was close enough.)
"There's one. "
Once in a while its "oh %^*&, it's a good one"
I like to say "FISH ON", but most of the time it's "#@$&, MISSED HIM".
I let the rod ripping through the air speak for itself....
Not a big Ike fan, so I am a little more subdued in my approach. I have been known to grunt on occasion LOL
i like to give an emphatic "YEEEEAAAAUUUH BOY!" once in a while.
With out a doubt "Get the Net"! Which is occasionally followed by the unfortunate "Ahh forget it, it's a dink".
If I'm fishing out of the back of my friend Craig's boat, I try to land the fish without a sound...easier to do with smaller fish.
Then I shout "CRAIG!" and when he spins around I'm already holding the fish.
I call it Ninja Fishing.
"fish" followed by" thank you lord!"

There he is! Unless I am fishin a frog then it is more of a Holy @1*?
Depends, but here are a few:
"Got one!"
"Bam!"
"Count it!"
"There she is"
"Respek" - in honor of Ali G
Quotei like to give an emphatic "YEEEEAAAAUUUH BOY!" once in a while.

FLAVA FLAV!!!
When one smashes a crank doing around 90mph it GOOD NIGHT!
When froggin or spookin its BAM!
"THERE He Is!" -or- "ARGH, She's Off!"
Roger
any one fo these three
1.ergg!!!
2.there he/she is
3.found em
GOT EM'!!!
Bam! ;D
I say bye bye skunk monkey...for the first one...then that will cull on the 6th one..if I get that lucky..
Small fish, I don't say anything.
Over six pounds, Lots of "colorful" phrases.
"d**n...that actually worked"
Or KaaaaPOW!
There SHE is.
If its a male that means that its under 5 or 6 pounds so i usually just say "F___, its a dink"
When I'm fishing with my partner, we always say fish on. Yet, when I'm fishing with just about anyone else, it's usually: Got 'em. Now come to Papa.
Just an "Ummmphh!" as I set the hook.
I usually say get the net or got one
MUDDY MAN ........I like your style. Ha! The funny thing about that is that even if I do set the hook and realize that I had weeds my response to my buddy is always " Oh man, just missed a biggun!" Gotta love it
Come to PaPPa!.......Who's yo daddie!
My two favorites both come from Gerald Swindle
1) I DON'T SUUCCCKK!!!
2) We have a bass in captivity!
This is largest bass in all of KAZAKHSTAN ! High 5! She hit lure made by the gypsys...VERY NICE!
Mine comes from Jim Carrey in the movie "The Mask".
"Somebody stop me!"
Quote"Somebody STOP Me!"
That's a great line to use after you've boated the "second" double-digit bass during the same day!!
Roger
"That's a big one!" - regardless of size, and
"We're fishing now", and
"Come on baby", and the obligatory...
"Come to Papa."
Nothing original here unfortunately. If it's over 6lbs, I usually have to take a few minutes off and sit down to get back under control.
Oddly enough, when I hook a bass, I don't say anything-I am always nervous about losing the fish-not sure why, I rarely lose a fish. With that being said, my fishing partner knows when I hook one-I fish the front of the boat and my hookset sometimes rocks the boat as if I had run it up on shore! ;D ;D ;D
When the bass gets in the boat, different story, A four letter word usually applies. I need to find more friendly words to shout. Do bass get offended easily? ;D
FD
Since I am by myself most of the time I don't say anything. I have fished with guys who went Ike every time they hooked up, IMHO, while a good show on the pro level, makes for an annoying partner.

We don't have DD's up here. I usually use it after I get several fish. It just came out one day and it seemed to amuse my 6yr old son so it has kind of stuck now.
Come to Papa - don't know where I got that from but it always seems to be the first thing out of my mouth followed by one or more of the following in no particular order: "No, stay out of there", "don't jump", "stay on", "get over here", "resistance is futile", "easy, now", "who's your Daddy?".
well first u got to call out the bite i go bite....hold on....got him...(then when u get them to the boat) oooo YA thats a biggen
"Gotcha B*#@^ !"
There's one
When I first started fishing senkos, I was landing a ton of fish at this one pond and the other two guys were not catching anything, so I said:
"$5 a senko!"
One guy thought it was hilarious, one did not.
I did give them both some senko's for free, and we all caught some fish!
oh and my buddy says "Bass Club" when he lands the first bass.
Definately "Theres one" for me. If whoever I'm fishin with hooks up I usually say something along the lines of "you lucky wretched"
edit: wretched haha i guess the other is banned
Uugghh!! Got em
When they are good ones and I got some line out there,
I'm always pointing out when you see that line shooting out from the boat.
SHE'S COMING UP FOR AN AIRSHOW!!!
Hookem
Quote"Gotcha B*#@^ !"

I think I got it from one of Dave Chapelle's stand ups...
usually "there's one", sometimes "talk to daddy"
usually, "there he is"
or, "here we go."
both of which are immidiatly followed by, "#$%#$#$*@#!"
I like what Steve Kennedy does - he strains and grunts, then starts laughing uncontrollably while saying the word 'awesome' repeatedly ;D He obviously loves his job.
And usually with the first fish of the day, I'll say something like, "Alright come here you little *******!"
On every hook-up I always say"Omygollyjumpinjehosephatsumbitch.!"
I believe the phrase for me is "There we go."
Usually a quick " Oh S..." but here lately its been Shaw Grigsby's saying from the comercial, "Catching big ole pigs"
There ya are Big Boy ! makes the small ones feel good too !
Before the hookset, "There's one" (see avatar)
After the hookset, "Big 'Un!"......... 8-)...........
Kind of embarassing and I DONT use it ALL the time, but mine is usually "Hell Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about!" My wife rolls her eyes. :
Most of the time, if I'm with my buddy, as soon as I feel a bite I'll drop the rod down, take out the slack, tell him watch this, rip back, and go BOOM! ;D
QuoteIf I'm fishing out of the back of my friend Craig's boat, I try to land the fish without a sound...easier to do with smaller fish. Then I shout "CRAIG!" and when he spins around I'm already holding the fish.

that is a great name for it. i do that somethimes unless we are fishing in a tourny.
Got one.
my wife always says "I got one!" ... Then she sets the hook. I've tried to convince her to set the hook, then say "I got one"... She's learning.
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH Yea!!!!!!!!!
FISH ON!!!!!!!!! Occasionally followed by anyone of the next words. sh--,rock,fish off, HE CAME BACK FOR IT, don't jump don't jump, it's a pig, it's a dink, here he comes, get the net. And a few others.
If it's a small fish - DINK
If it's a bigger fish - HOOOOP !
If it's the real deal - Ohhh BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Great thread.
I like "Fish on" or "There we go"
I like to quoute the great American Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLouche.
"Holy $#$%, that was beautiful. What'd I do?"
Quotemy wife always says "I got one!" ... Then she sets the hook. I've tried to convince her to set the hook, then say "I got one"... She's learning.
Reminds me of when I used to hunt rabbits with my Dad. He would jump a rabbit and immediately call, "Hup,hup!" to let the beagles know he had jumped one. Then he would shoot if he still had a shot.
I didn't understand why he did that when I was little, but I came to understand that the dogs running the rabbit was at least as much fun as harvesting the game.
Yee Haw!
Ike 8-)
My wife says...."UH OH"
then....STEEEEVE! can you get it off.
I generally just say "Got one" or "there it is" if I knew one was in there
"Got one"
"There's one"
"Fish On!"
"[ch927][ch928][ch913]"
"Theres one"
usually followed by...
"She's a big... oh she's feaking huge... man she's really fighting... oh... a stick."
and sometimes...
'Don't jump, don't jump... awww @#$%!"
QuoteMost of the time, if I'm with my buddy, as soon as I feel a bite I'll drop the rod down, take out the slack, tell him watch this, rip back, and go BOOM! ;D
My brother does that, it is kinda funny when he does the rip back and he has to follow it with "DANG".
I usually say Fish On!! or Yeeaaah.
One friend I fished with simply said "I'll take that !"
It's either "There's one" or "Get the net"
Quote'Don't jump, don't jump... awww @#$%!"
lol my thoughts exactly
I usually say "Are you sure you dont want to try one of these?"
"Got One!"...most of the time
Sometimes, "^&%$, that moth&*^%$#@ got off!"
Other times, "I'm snagged"
Usually it's "There's another one."
Can I get a BOOYAH!
I say AHHH yea
Ohhh Baby, Now that's what I'm talkin about, Right There.
www.ragetail.com
Uuugggghhhh ;D
I usually hold my mouth shut when I set the hook, but when I don't I usually say ahhh yeeeaaa. Now if I miss a fish, I am likely to say the first thing on my mind (see the last option on the list).
-searoach
Sorry before last.
-searoach
If its a tournament, its usually "Fish." followed by "Get the net!"
I have to say get the net because its so rare that I catch a fish in a tournament and Speedbead needs reminded since I always net his fish.
" Here we go... "
just about about always I say got em
Wow, I'm not original at all. "There he is."
But I also have been know to say "Oh my god they do exist" on tough days ;D
"fishfishfishfishfish!!!!!!!!"
alternatively, if i've been using the "here, fishie fishie fishie" attractor, and a bass bites, it gets the "gotcha"
Here we go!!
come here you lil' wretched
or
got 'em
I start my semi silent "dont lose him, dont lose him" prayer......
I was fishing near a guy who always hollers out "I got another one" no matter what kind of fish he catches. I got on the bass bite with him nearby one night and drove him nuts I said i got another one many times. He just was quiet the whole time.
Most of the time i'm quiet but if i'm using my heavy topwater setup i just say to myself, "fish you bit the wrong lure" and land it and release it of course.
Quote"There's one"
X2 Bro!
It's usually "Hook up!" with the word "hook" pronounced so that it rhymes with "spook"
My favorite guide in Baja says it every time a fish is hooked and it cracks me up.
Come to PopPop. (My grandkids call me "PopPop)!
Pretty boring,
"There's one"
"There's he is"
"THere we go"
i ALWAYS SAY come to daddy,so I voted come to papa.
