Well folks, here's my first attempt at being in front of the camera instead of behind it.
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I ALWAYS have a spinnerbait on the deck of my boat, and I ALWAYS fish it at least for a little while on every outing.
In this video, I give away all my secrets gained over the decades of heavy spinnerbait fishing. Whether you're a beginner, or have been fishing spinnerbaits for long time, you'll find some new tips to try the next time you hit the water.

Many thanks to Idaho***er for his fine camera work!
Enjoy!
Wow, thanks Glenn, that was great! I've been garnering a great interest in spinnerbaits recently, and that really cleared some things up for me. Well done!
Great video, thanks for your efforts. I learned a lot about spinnerbaits even though I use them a lot. Particularly liked the info on skirts, blade choices and trailers. I'd like to find some spinnerbaits that don't have those humongous hooks that are so common.
Thats good stuff right there! Nicely done Glenn!
You have to love this vid just about everything dealing with the basics of a spinner bait..Thanks
Great Video, Really enjoyed it and was informative, gathered new ideas.
Your a star
Very Nicely done!!!
Showing footage of hooking into one at the end was a nice touch as well. If you're gonna be a movie star you'll have to hit the tanning bed though..
Great Job and very informative for a newcomer wanting spinnerbait tips.
QuoteGreat Video, Really enjoyed it and was informative, gathered new ideas.
X2.
One of the best instructional videos I've ever seen! Congrats on a fine job. Also....THANKS!
Cool, I definitly learned something...also good work Glenn, you a funny guy too..lol But seriously dude, get a fake bake, them legs of yours are way to white..LOl.....
fantastic video well done! if only there was a video like this on jerkbaits, worms, crankbaits every lure type out there it would really help a lot of people. I don't really like spinnerbaits but now I feel like I need to go get some lumaflex skirts and give it another go. were you working with the bait monkey on this one?
Thanks Glenn. Great video!
It's about time you made a post with you catching a fish ;D.
Good job with the video.
BRAVO Glenn, BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But did ya have to dog Tina man.......................LOL
Just kidding
BTW, nice shoes
Excellent.
Thanks.
Nicely done Glenn. Thanks for all the information. Spinnerbaits are one of my numerous weaknesses.
Pleas move this to the tackle section...
Very informative! Thanks
Your going to be getting a call one of these days from Hollywood asking you to star in a new show
"Fishing With Glenn" LOL
great video just one question do you use those kinds of skirts on your jigs to or just the spinner baits?
Very nicely done!
Just spinnerbaits. I like to let my jigs sit for awhile, and rubber skirts tend to slowly open while the jig sits still, while lumaflex skirts won't do that.
The lumaflex works better for moving baits. But I guess they would work for swimming jigs. I haven't tried that yet. Hmmmm....you gave me an idea.
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I appreciate it. The mods and I have several more videos like this in the works, so stay tuned!
an excellent video certainly helped me abit. one thing ive never used is trailers for my spinnerbaits. any recommendations for brand, type, etc?
Quotean excellent video certainly helped me abit. one thing ive never used is trailers for my spinnerbaits. any recommendations for brand, type, etc?
I usually don't use trailers either, but when I do I go with the NETBAIT Paca Chunk or Tiny Paca. Thats a crawfish type trailer and I usually match it to the Davis X-Swim spinnerbait.
Very nice video and even better info. Thanks for the great info and tips.
Later,
Glenn, where can the dye you mentioned me purchased? Also I'm guessing you make your own skirts with the lumaflex material you buy... how many skirts does a 1/4lb roll make?
QuoteVery informative! Thanks
x2
Great video, with lot of information for those who fish and tried to use them, and never could! Hope you do more videos on other things, like how to use bait-casting rod and reels. Also other information on other lures also.
Thanks
Dennis
From one spinnerbait lover to another, great video Glenn! I actually picked up a couple of new ideas. Number one, I don't use Lumaflex for my skirts so I'm going to give them a try, and number two, I don't usually change the blade color first when I have short strikes. I'm amazed at the number of guys who were looking at your legs.
Great video Glenn!
While I don't use them exclusively, I do throw Lumaflex skirts from time to time. Thanks for bringing up the spinnerbait weight! 3/4oz is something I haven't thrown very often (actually not at all this year). I'll have to break them back out! But 14# test with a 3/4oz spinnerbait? I'll be going a little higher (bad experience in the past with lighter lines)! You're right about the backhand roll cast, it is a little awkward at first. I started using it last year.
Very informative. Good werk!
I hear the baitmonkey saying something about lumaflex...
BTW - the skirts are available in 2 packs too. I had a few folks wondering if they can only get them in the 100 pack. I buy them in bulk simply because they're hard to find and I go through a dozen or more a year. But they're available in smaller quantities as well.
I can't get the video to play. Any ideas why?
Well done, Glenn.
That skirt did resemble Phyllis Diller.LOL
Falcon
Thanks Glenn. I don't throw any spinnerbaits currently, but might give it a shot.
very good I think someone has been watching KVD videos untill 2:00 in the morning ;D
Good vid Glenn, now I may actually have to use the spinnerbaits that I have. ;D
Very solid video. I look forward to more!
Excellent work! Definitely some new stuff to think about. Been using spinnerbaits all my life but never bigger than 1/2 oz and rarely that.
Awesome video! Thanks so much!
I've been wondering if videos like this would ever surface.
Wow! Excellent work Glenn! Very, very helpful. I'm a worm/tube/jig fisherman mostly and haven't given spinnerbaits the honest try that I should be.
Can't wait to see these other videos!
great info. Really appreciated the vid.
Mike
Great video! You've given me some fresh perspectives on throwing this bait. Thanks!
Thanks Glenn!
As a noob, who so far has not caught a single fish on spinners, I found the video very informative.
Cant wait to try it out this weekend.
Many thanks for the video Glenn. I fish spinner baits on the majority of my outings and still picked up a thing or two.
Can't wait for more videos!!!
Great video Glenn! I've just got into bass fishing over the last year or so and I've only caught one bass on a spinnerbait many because I didn't know anything about using them. This video has help A LOT!
Looking like Tina Turner LOL
Very nice video Glen
Thank you
QuoteLooking like Tina Turner LOLVery nice video Glen
Thank you
Yea or Phyllis Diller ;D i had to pause the video for a second after that one.
Of all the great tips the one that stands out in my mind is the cast/entry.
Mastering the cast and getting your lure to slip into the water as quietly as possible takes some time but is well worth it.
this should be a sticky
Learned a lot from that video. Appreciate the patients you put into it. A+++
I didn't know you had videos, that is super.
I was hoping to see you retieve a spinnerbait just "above" the surface. That is a trick i have not mastered, but am working on it. (a custom 350:1 geared baitcaster)... sorry, i had to bust your chops a little..good work and looking forward to more.
I have plenty of spinnerbaits and no idea how to use them effectively.
Thanks for the video Glenn I have a much better idea of what to look for when the baitmonkey bites and just how to fish them as well.

Done
Here are some quick ideas of lumaflex skirts as Glenn mentioned. I have white in bulk if there are people who want to buy them cheap.
Will make them to order.
I have polarflash and flashabou in some colors.
I love spinnerbaits, made me want to go throw one.
So, when you getting JIGGY with us?
Can't wait till the next installment comes.
Glenn, Was there someone fishing beside you in the Video at 11 min. and 53 sec. there was a splash behind you on your right side (left if your looking at the screen)
Anyway good video I like those skirts you had also.
Joe
I have two questions on this matter that I'll just throw up in here instead of starting a new thread.
I've never tried using a trailer, what are some suggestions on trailer selection?
Also, I noticed Glenn mentioned he prefers to throw a 3/4 ounce spinner bait. I've never seen anything over a 1/2 ounce. Where can you find larger?
Thanks for the info on the spinnerbaits. I love throwing them but i am pretty new to it. Although i have fished alot i normally fish with people who know what they are doing just this summer i am going out on my own just fishing from the banks. i have only been able to catch one so far. These ideas should help alot and hopefully in the next week or so i will post that they REALLY helped. Thanks again.
Any suggestions for fishing from the bank of a pond?

Yes, my wife Keri. Idaho***er was behind the camera. We shot that all in about an hour, and then proceeded to just slay 'em on spinnerbaits, frogs, and Senkos. We had a blast!
A Glenn, I be the new-by to the forum and like the video. But you had sad one key thing, that sparked a question. The 3/4 once was easier to throw in the wind and all, for practice,as well for a steady pick.My Question is Why use that huge Bladed thing When you could put yourself in targeting mid to large Fish. When simply downsize-in to 1/6 or 1/8once and learn to throw it in all conditions.I myself throw big baits preferred, but their are some that swear by the little stuff. Its easy to throw wait, but do it with a feather, training with something lighter. Then go to the big stuff, with greater accuracy presentation precision ext.
I'm having a hard time understanding your question, but I think you're asking why a big bait vs. a smaller bait. Aside from the reasons given in the video, I find the underhand casts shown in the video are easier with heavier baits. Hope that helps!
Glenn, nice interpretation of the question. I thought he was talking about a very large knife. :
Tina Turner with a bad hair day! Nice! LMAO!
One of the best videos that I have seen.
Great job.
Great video Glenn, keep up the good work.
Great video Glenn -
Able,
I think I understand what you are asking. Why use a larger spinner bait than a smaller one?
A larger spinner bait is a much more practical all year presentation. As Glenn said, he only downsizes after spawn. With the larger spinnerbaits you can throw these things through the thickest trees, "Crashing them through" that a smaller weighted spinnerbait would hang up in. I also find it a little easier to slow roll these baits when you are fishing deeper water and you also will ctach all sizes of bass on a 3/4 oz bait.
When we were fishing the 8-12" fish wouldn't keep off them. It was getting so bad by the end of each day we were yelling at the dinks, or reeling in faster before they hooked themselves. It was pretty comical.
Larger baits will attract the mid sized fish just as well as a 1/4-1/2 oz bait will.
awesome video, thank ya!
Glen,
very informative !!!
way cool,
now we need one on Jigs !!
I second the motion on the jig video
Great video, Very informative since I have zero confidence in a spinnerbait. I have not found the right combination of color and blade selection for my home lake. I have found at night with a big single blade bumping the bottom works great, but during the day I can't catch a fish on one. I have had great luck on a rocket shad early in the spring, but not on regular spinnerbaits. Any suggestions?
Kenny, my go-to spinnerbait selection is a 1/2 oz head custom painted chartreuse and green, large willow leaf gold blade, small colorado silver blade , 65 strand 7" white lumaflex skirt with chartreuse and pearl flashabou.
I can make the skirts to order if you are interested.
NOW I know what I have been doing wrong, thanks very very much
Thanks Glenn. Great Video.
glen I have spent 5 hours looking for lumiflex skirts and cant find them on the internet, would you have a source you wouldn't mind sharing with me
you can find the skirts at:
jobabylures
sorry I can't post the full link since I'm a newb (there is a rule)
Idaholunker I sent you a pm I would very much like some white lumaflex skirts
Just recieved a hand full of Lumiflex skirts I bought from Idaho Lunker.
They are very nice !!!
thanks much !
Great video! Any chance someone can do a crankbait video?
Great job. gonna show this one to a couple people i think should watch it and maybe learn something.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Jeff,
Glad you liked them!
PS:I am so thankful for Glenn taking me out and allowing me to help with this video. I learned a lot and the spinnerbait is now one of my go-to's.
Needed to bump. Great vid Glenn, I can't believe I missed it the first time around.
great video...been working on that underhanded backhanded cast its tuff..Bob
Very helpful video. My left handed cast will be up and running by April.
I like the crankbait video idea!
Every time I go out I try a spinnerbait, they are dynamite. I'm a big fan of the willow leaf blades!
Thanks Glenn! Great information. You're a natural in front of the camera
Great Video. Thanks! ;D
Awsome video. I used to fish spinnerbaits all the time but here lately I have been geared more towards soft plastics. After watching that video however I have a feeling Ill be throwing a spinnerbait some the next time I get on the water.. Thanks again for the great video..
What a great video, kept it real simple and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing that.
Joe
i am new to the whole fishing sport aand i was trying to learn how to use spinner baits but i have a question i fish a pond with about a foot to foot and half of visibility and i learned from the video i should use a gold blade but what about a color for the skirt and advise?
Video was extremely helpful!
In all honesty, I took your advice on the calm entry, low-trajectory, underhand throw and caught a 4.5lb large mouth first cast!! A few casts later I caught a 2lb small mouth...!!!
Now granted I didn't catch much the rest of the day, I still did better than I've ever done with those (2) big bass. I was fishing a small pond that is really over fished too, so I consider this to be an excellent outcome. Oh yeah, I also changed my spinner blade to a gold indiana blade (which I've never used before!!). The blade might be a colorado though, as I'm still not well versed when it comes to blades. You can see it in the pic. Anyway, to add to the excitement, I've used spinners at this pond for the last two weeks since I started fishing here and only caught 1 crappie, never a bass. Furthermore, this was the biggest large mouth I've ever caught (haven't fished a whole lot until recently). Some regulars came down shortly after I released the big one and I showed them the pics, they said they've never seen a large mouth that big come from that pond...I felt like a superstar. LOL Maybe I'll catch it again!
I took a pic with my iphone but it's hard to see since I had to hold the phone and the fish and take a pic of myself...
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your secrets. I can attest to the fact that your secrets definitely work!!
Ive always been a huge fan of the spinnerbait king/kid.. KVD and it's probably the most exciting bait for me personally due to the versatility of it. So it's always good to see a well documented video of how to use it. Additional learning tips and things you might have forgot. Nice job Glenn!
