What Do You Guys Eat While Fishing? 2025

fishing user avatarSnazzySenko reply :

I usually bring a sandwich while I'm on long fishing trips. I'm looking for some new ideas to explore, a sandwich is getting too repetitive and boring. What do you guys eat while fishing?

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Jack links teriyaki jerky and water

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

nothing usually other than gatorade and if i know i will be out all day with a long paddle i will get a hoagie from WaWa.

I prefer to eat a big breakfast instead and then chow after i leave the water.

I've thought of eating a big breakfast before leaving but I'm afraid I will get a stomach ache on the water.  :laugh5:

Yeah i have had that happen but once i found out what was causing it, the double espresso shot starbucks drinks, i have been good.  And it is pretty much a given that if i am out all day i am hanging out over the edge of the yak to drop a deuce at least once :)  That is really the primary reason anyone should be concerned with stability in a kayak :)

Krave Black Cherry Pork Jerky, Peanut Butter Cliff bars, and loads of water.

Warning....eating Krave Jerky ruined Jack Links for me....and I would hammer down a couple of bags.  I can't eat it anymore, Krave is that good.

Coffee while fishing? I wouldn't be able to hold it! lol Also I stopped eating Vienna sausages after I read the article on the cancer causing stuff in it and other "sausage" products. Eating one sausage a day increases your chances by 20%. I'm sure it's not just one sausage but I does increase the chances.

fishing user avatarbmac31 reply :

Breakfast sanwich on my way ro lake. Water and Gatorade are always on hand. I always bring something to eat if its gonna be a long day.it always changes. Could be a sandwich and chips, sunflower seeds or jerky a bagel or donuts, cold pizza etc.

I think you are referring to the sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate in processed meats....but wait a few weeks and a new study will come out and refute this claim too :)

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I'm lucky because I prepare the boat and tackle, while my wife prepares the lunches.

She'll usually bring some combination of meatball sandwiches, baked chicken,

peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, hard boiled eggs and a small cooler filled with drinks.

everything gives you cancer these days.

Also, I find it hard that the study can accurately say 20% more likely to get cancer.

might not sound good to most, but if i'm out all day i carry a can of chunky chicken noodle soup and sit it in the sun, no spoon required just drink it lol.

yeah those types of studies are pretty ridiculous because there are so many variables involved not to mention many think that cancer is genetic or at least the predisposition to get it may be....

fishing user avatarBassnChris reply :

Usually something like Bologna or ham sandwiches, chips and apples.

Can't believe Brian has not chimed in.......he carries a small convenience store with him.

Jerky gives energy, the salt may crave liquid but you could just wiz that off the boat, can't say that about fiber snacks :D

fishing user avatarthat possum reply :

16 posts before anyone mentioned vienna sausages.

I usually make a few sammiches and keep em in the ice chest.  Or some if those tuna packets with a cheap loaf of white bread.  A few candy bars.  Maybe a big cup of boiled peanuts, too.  But that has consequences.  I've crapped in most the major bass lakes in the south. And a bunch that weren't major.

I actually brought up the single deuce that was induced by the double deuce starbucks espresso iced coffee drink :)

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

Usually a pb&j and some fruit. During tournaments I don't eat though. I have a good breakfast and a big can of Monster and then Gatorade for the rest of the day and that's it.

2 Sausage, egg, and cheese sandwichs and my 24oz coffee mug on the way to the lake.

2 Pb&j's and Monster Rehab on the water. I have to eat on the water or suffer the wrath of a blinding migraine headache later. Plus, fat boy likes his food  :laugh5:

Average tournament:

Coffee and granola bar on the way.

Coffee and dried apple fruit bar waiting for launch.

Lunch: water, PB&J, fruit, cheese stick.

Something to snack on like peanuts or another dried fruit bar.

fishing user avatarNorthernAnglers reply :

usually gatorade after gatorade... throw in a few granola bars maybe a bag of chips.... lol

fishing user avatarwnybassman reply :

Usually just things I can stuff in my mouth running from one spot to another.   I never eat while fishing, just while motoring.    So it is small packages of cheese/crackers, cliff bars and if I am fishing a larger multi-day tournament I will have peanut butter sandwiches on board.   I try to force myself to drink water, but I know I don't drink nearly enough.

fishing user avatarAlpha Male reply :

I like to eat a large breakfast as well, I just make sure to use the bathroom before I leave the cabin. then its just powerade, water, pop, and some sunflower seeds with the occasional bag of chips or something.

fishing user avatarSudburyBasser reply :

Fun fishing I'll typically bring a sandwich or wrap with some water.

Tournament fishing I'll bring a few granola bars, perhaps a hoagie, and water.

Small breakfast with coffee before leaving in both cases. Low input, low output.

fishing user avatarpbrussell reply :

Now, If I could manage to somehow make a small fresh burger magically appear on my boat, I'd scarf that down while I was on the water.

Guess boat companies need to start incorporating microwaves into the boat layout

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Marlboros and Gatorade.

fishing user avatarmnbassman23 reply :

Bananas... Just to prove its skill and not luck

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Usually just some granola bars and a sandwich. I do freeze some water bottles so I can get a cold drink.

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

Beef jerkey wild bills smoked, slim jims, peanuts. Bring stuff high in protein in case I get stranded. Gatorade. And I've got a pizza place who delivers to my kayak or spillway etc

fishing user avatarbassmaster99 reply :

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

Kebler peanut butter cheese crackers are hard to beat.  Ill take 2 or 3 packs.  Lots of frozen water bottles.  There is always one thawing on the deck.  On a long trip 3 PBJ sandwiches.

fishing user avatarVzwire reply :

Whatever my wife packs for me the night before... Usually a turkey and cheese or ham sandwich, a bag of chips, a cheese stick, and a little Debbie of some sort. Oh, and a love note wishing me luck.

Gawd I love that woman!

fishing user avatarTC235 <*))))>< reply :

Fishing tends to make me neglect the important things to bring along like food, water, uv/bug spray, etc... Running outta the door at 3:00am to hit the pond stumbiling around in the dark viciously trying to get the boat out before the sun even rises for another 2 hours.. Yet i always remember every bit of gear and more than likley dont use half of it. Yea guess theres a problem.. :dazed-7:

fishing user avatarFrogFreak reply :

I don't eat breakfast. I do my business when the motor is warming up (in the bathroom). On the water I bring natures valley granola bars and coffee. I have a mug that plugs into the lighter deal so it stays warm! I usually take a break around 11 am and my wife makes breakfast burritos.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

We pack P&J sandwiches some slim Jim's, we get egg/bacon fresh sandwiches on the way to fishing.

The usual morning coffee and soda to drink. But lately I drink more coffee and water.

Being a diabetic I bring chocolate just incase or regular soda if my sugar goes too low. I like the p&j so I can hold them in my hand by the wrapper. The slim Jim's too.

I'm going to fish very hard this season.  Bill

Before the season begins a new can of bug spray goes in a plastic bag in my tackle box.

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

Sandwich, cliff bars, granolas bars, water. In the summer we can be out on the water 12hrs + . Got to be full and happy.

fishing user avatarMichiganFishing1997 reply :

On the way to the ramp in the morning I always stop at Tim Hortons, then I have a cooler with Powerade or Gatorade, Power Bars, a bag of chips, and if im staying out for a long time I will make sandwiches.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

always got a bag of beef jereky with me, and some kind of drink water, gaterade etc. and i always have a tin of grizzly!

fishing user avatarBob C reply :

How do you guys stay out so long? I can go 4 hrs. max and I've got get rid of my morning coffee. I fish small lakes with houses all around. You can't just stand up and cut loose. Last summer there was a guy anchored about 150 ft. off shore. I was drifting along the shore and he never saw me. I was about 25 ft. from him between him and shore when he stood up and emptied himself in a coffee can. As he turned to empty it he saw me and was obviously embarrassed and pulled anchor and headed for the ramp. :laugh5:  Good thing he had his back to us as my wife was with me. We got a laugh out it. Now when I go out the wife asks if I have my Folgers can. :Idontknow:

fishing user avatarJason Short reply :

Cold chicken, BBQ beef, or ham sandwiches, granola bars, jerky, lots of sunflower seeds, tons of water, usually some cookies or something that my mom makes. There's a lot of salt but I just drink lots of water and I'm fine.

HA! I just now saw this thread...... and it is true, I eat good on the water, and am always prepared for meeting an army of folks that may be hungry.

Ham and cheese sandwiches , pringles, saltine crackers, ritz crackers, peanut butter, chili cheese fritos, rice crispy treats, slim jims/cheese packs, beef jerky assorted nuts, peanuts, almonds ect , goldfish crackers, snickers, twix, paydays,....oh  yeah, Nutter butters! and those little grandmas crème cookie sandwiches(love those), and sometimes a variety of little debbies.... I try not to do a bunch of chocolates cause the melt and don't keep well in a boat.

and at least a 12 pack of Diet Cokes in the cooler and another in storage.

there you have it.......Needham's on the water buffet ... subject to change by season and how many times kids have been in my boat!!

fishing user avatarcoots reply :

Made the mistake of forgetting my water at home last year. That will be the last time I ever.. and I mean EVER go without something to drink.

Anyway, as far as food goes. We usually make some type of sandwiches as well. However, I've found out that a banana goes a long way out there. List goes something like

Sandwich (PB&J, anything else)
Jerky - all kinds of flavors
Banana
Crackers - we like the Lance Variety Packs
Sunflower Seeds
hungry? why wait? Grab a snickers! ;)

fishing user avatarEvanT123 reply :

I'm not one to preach anything however I always try and eat a balanced diet the reality is different though. When I know I'm going to be fishing the greasy food is off. A nature bar and water works for me. No one wants to drive home and feel like they are going to pass out lol.

fishing user avatar96ecss reply :

It varies depending on how long I'm going to be out. If it's just for a few hours I just bring water and maybe a granola bar. If I'm going to be out all day I bring any combination of the following.

Sandwiches - PB&J and maybe a turkey sandwich or a hoagie.

Peanut butter crackers

Trail mix

Granola bars

Chips or cookies

Diet Coke

Water

Gatorade

Dave

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

I'm finding it interesting that not to many take an apple. A Honey Crisp munched between spots is great for both fluid and norishment and taste's pretty good to.

Also like water or gatoraid

PNB and J

Subway Sand

Granola or nuts

(yup I'm a muncher)..happens when ya loose fourty pounds the wrong way!!

P.S. Basically I don't fish anymore without something. Sometimes even during a tourney I'll find myself sitting back for five minitues reflecting on why thing's are %$!@ing. It sometimes helps.

I usually time eating when I'm Carolina rig worming.
