My dad wants to do a big fishing trip next year with me and my grandpa. We were planning on going to Lake Mateos or El salto, but right now there's way too much violence going on in mexico so he doesn't want to try there anytime soon.Falcon was also an option, but it is also experiencing some "technical difficulties". We'd like to go to a place with a very high number of bass, and most of them be very nice quality bass, but also have a very good chance of catch a toad and a half. It doesnt have to be a monster breeding ground lol just a very good population of healthy bass with chances of beasts any suggestions?thanks

Lake Falcon, hire guide. Don't let the media fool you, I have spoken with many people who have been down there recently, and they all felt 100% safe. If your still worried then fish the US side only. One person I spoke to pulled a 11.4 out of there.

I'd try Dream Lake Lodge in Livingston, Alabama....just mentioned this on another post as well to someone else....
I've fished all over the South, and it's by FAR the best fishing I've ever experienced! Average Days you'll catch 40-50 Bass per person, many in the 4-6 pound range, with a few 7+.....On a good day, could be 75 Bass per person or more.
My first day there I caught 73 Bass, including my PB of 11-04, plus a 9 pounder, and literally lost count of 5+ pound bass I caught. It's a great place, privately owned/managed by a very nice couple, great food/etc.....Website is Dreamlakelodge.com. I'm going back again this February for my birthday.
Second choice would be Guntersville....And I'd strongly Discourage Lake Fork - was a great lake in the early/mid 90's, but I think it's gone way downhill. I went there 2 Springs ago, was very bad experience. 6 of us, with a professional guide, flew in from around the country, and first day we all got Blanked! Second day, I caught 3 small fish......Haven't ever seen a lake with so many boats/pressure in my life. Won't be going back.....
Hope this helps.

Kind of a complete 180 from what you might be thinking and what's been suggested. How about a bush trip to Ontario? HUGE Smallies, no pressure, clean and quiet. A group of friends went last summer and one guy got an 8lb Smallie and numerous 5's were caught. I can PM you the lake if you want. Plus there are nice LM and Northerns so big and mean they'll steal your girlfriend.

If travelling distance isnt a problem you can come up to Kentucky & Barkely Lakes. You can fish either days or nights.
During the day you can fish the main lake ledges but your success will depend on whether or not the Corp of Engineers is pulling water. If its a good pull you should do well but if its a weak pull it can be a long slow day.
Best bit of advice is to fish at night. Concentrate on the primary lake points and bluff corners and gradually work back to the secondary points and then on to the rip rap areas and docks.
Always remember if you are night fishing during the big name tour events you want to make sure to have the boat back on the trailer before the hordes show up to launch.
And its always fun to show your fish off to these guys cause it really gets them pumped. And believe me they will be pumped cause you can flat catch more than a few nice sized fish on these lakes at night.

All those lakes mentioned above are pretty good choices.
If you are eliminating El Salto simply because you have heard about the border violence you are making a mistake.
The El Salto trip is from Mazatlan into the Sierra Madre mountains--1 1/2 hours from the airport.
I've been there many times in the past several years and never had a problem. It is the border cities that have the problems-like El Paso.
Falcon is fine on the U.S. side. The jetski shooting occurred when a tourist took photos on the Mexican side.

You won't regret Dream Lake....Really, really amazing fishing, you won't catch anything under 2 pounds, and LOTS of 5+ pounders.....
Homemade Southern cooking at every meal, great hospitality, big 21-foot bass boats, but quiet/serene/isolated, you can tell I love this place. Best Bass fishing I've ever seen......

We like Lake Comedero even better. It's about 1 hour from El Salto and more remote and less fished. It's as quiet and peaceful as it gets. We have been going down there the last few years and it's safe. Heading down January for the first time this season.

We've gone to clear lake 3 times now and it has not been very good any of those times lol.It has now become a heavily pressured lake and isnt as good as it was 3 or 4 years ago.You have to be pretty familiar with it to fish it well now, or go with someone who's good with it.And yes the delta is awesome but we're looking to do a bigger trip than a 45 minute drive ;D haha
