The time has come for the 2020 Fantasy Fishing season to begin. For those unfamiliar, we have been doing this for a few years now as a fun way to compete and have a little fun among all our members. Do you think you have what it takes to take home 1st place for the season?
Group Name: BassResource
Password: BR2020
We encourage all members to play along. Just pick your anglers prior to each BASS Elite event and share them (or don't) with the group. It's all part of the fun!
Is this an ongoing thing where you need to update a lineup, etc?

Each event, you pick 5 guys for your roster. There are 5 buckets of guys to choose from, so you try to pick who you think will do best in that bucket.
So 10 total events between February and August that you'll need to select a roster for. Certainly not as grueling as doing fantasy football or baseball.
I'm in, going to be strong on the Fla boy picks in Event 1
Does Clunn have it in him to pull off another one???
I'm in again and after several minutes of grueling research my team has been selected .
I'm in
You picked already?! Theres still 29 days left!!

I wont have any more insight then as I do now . If an angler cant make it or is impaired I can still change .

You mean you don't think Feider, Hartman, and Mueller are going to be at the top of the heap?
Maybe, but I'm watching the weather to see what the bass do. Each of em has their strong points.
St.Johns is one of my absolute favorite fisheries.
Awesome, I'm in! Thanks for taking the lead again @fishballer06
I'm in. 10 members so far.
And welcome back Palaniuk and Swindle!
I will try again..Was fun but boy did I suck at my picks..lol
Wow, already that time of year again for you lucky southern fishermen, still looking “forward” to it icing up for a bit here ???? I’m in though ????
I've never done this before, so I'll see how terrible I do.????
Did you notice the change in prizes? Rapala is now involved & has upped the prizes for each event. 1st place per event now totals $4000 ($4500 for BASS members), an increase of $1500.
Further, they are now awarding prizes for the top 20 per event, not just first. 2nd thru 5th is cool, $250 worth of Rapala stuff.
The yearlong winner has been lowered, it no longer is a boat. It is a $15,000 BPS card, which could buy a small boat.

That's a pretty sweet prize package if you ask me. Allowing more guys to win prizes is always a plus in my book.
I’ll be in. Wish they had done this last year whe I ended up third in a contest! But sweet I like rapala gear. Good luck this year maybe someone from the group will get the year end!

I dont know the anglers that well .
Watch all of last year's tournaments and you'll get a better understanding of different anglers. That's your homework for next week
I'm in. I sucked real bad last year. Very little confidence it'll get better. It's fun though

You only get better with more experience. Even then, it can be a crap shoot. I've been running this league on here for ~4 years now I believe, and I still don't think I've ever finished in the top 5 overall for our group, despite usually finishing in the 90+ percentile on BASS.
I just hope that one day, someone from this site can win a sweet prize package from one of the events.
Thanks for setting us up again @fishballer06, I've joined a number of groups, TW, Spro, AFTCO etc. They all giveaway prizes if you finish in the top 3-10, varies by group. There's no cost to enter and you don't have to make extra picks outside of what you normally do for the BR group.
We're all tackle junkies at the end of the day, just thought I would share to add some incentive beyond bragging rights.
Got my picks in, but I'll switch them again closer to the event.
@Dangerfield Thanks, didnt know you could join more than 1 Group. ????

Oh thanks for the heads up on the other public groups!!! Cause I need the chance to win more tackle and stuff!????
I'm in again - typically once summer starts i get busy and totally forget about a tournament, hopefully I'm less smooth this year haha
We're up to 20 guys in the group. Keep signing up guys. We've still got 23 days before the first event to get your team registered.
We're now up to 30 guys in the group. There's still 13 days to sign up before the first event.
Lets start talking strategy here. Who is everyone taking? It looks like Florida finally got a little bit of a cold snap, that's going to start a big wave of spawners.
I just finalized my list, I'm a little worried about my tie-breaker being a bit on the low side:
I think Kissimmee showed what we can expect. Some guys will target early bedding bass, some will junk fish!
Kissimmee was Jerkbaits to propbaits and Rattletraps to senkos. Lure selections were all over the board
My picks and the reason
A Chris Johnson because he finished second here last year
B John Crews finished 5th and did well for me on a river before
C Clark Wendlandt is suppose to be an excellent sight fisherman
D Shane Lineberger finished 23rd and 13th in the first two events last season, so I'm assuming hes a good shallow water spring angler
E Taku Ito finished in the top 10 three out of four times in the Opens last year . Thats all I know about him .
Why not pick the guy who has won here multiple times? With outstanding bags of fish btw.
I've been burned by Clunn a few times and twice he didnt even bother to weigh in fish on the second day .

yeah, I had him in my line up and pulled him. He's unreliable.

You picked the local boy (to me) in bucket E. I can't wait to see how he does.
@scaleface im giving you a hard time, I didn't pick him either ????
I never followed pro tournament fishing much, but after killing an hour doing some basic research, here's what I came up with.
edit: Put my tiebreaker at a total of 88lbs and 10 oz.
Quick update - 5 days left to get your picks in for this first event.
Remember, its free to sign up!
We've made it. Tournament week is here. As of me posting this, you have roughly ~60 hours left to make your picks.
If you've already made your picks, post them up and share with us why you made your picks.
Let's get this party started!
Group A - John Cox
Group B - John Crews
Group C - Hunter Shryock
Group D - Bernie Schultz
Group E - David Fritts
Just a shot in the dark for me here. Hunter I picked because he is an Ohio guy and we fished a lot of the same waters growing up. Always like to pull for the hometown guy!!!
A - Cory Johnston
B - John Crews
C - Clark Wendlandt
D - Bryan Schmitt
E - Austin Felix
No Floridians.
A - Drew Cook
B - John Crews
C - Brandon Cobb
D - Bryan Schmitt
E - Austin Felix
I was going to go with Cox in bucket A, but so many others had him picked I guess I wanted to be different to try to sneak in more points.
A- John Cox
B- Jeff Gustafson
C-Koby Kreiger
D- Stephen Kennedy
E- Buddy Gros
When I was filling out my buckets yesterday, I noticed something that I hope is just a typo.
On the first page after you sign in, just under your name in the upper left hand corner it states that the rosters lock at 6am ET on Feb 6th.
However, once you move on to the page where you make your choices, just below where it says Period 1 and lists the tournament, it says rosters lock at 11:00 am ET on the 6th. The small "time remaining" clock to the right of that has a countdown that matches the 6 am time, not the 11 am.
While it would not guarantee you to be a winner, it would be a distinct advantage to set your Roster hours into the first day. I sent BASS a note about it so they could correct it before the tournament starts.
Good eye!
Anybody else see the cold front pushing in? That's gonna take the edge off first couple days of tournament. Bigger bags will come in towards the end. I lowered my bag weight and changed some of my picks.
I think experience with cold front fla bass is gonna pay huge. Better get tight on cover and drop it on her!

I got an email back from the software developer, they corrected it. it was an issue with GMT time being converted to ET.
On 2/5/2020 at 6:20 AM, NittyGrittyBoy said:Anybody else see the cold front pushing in? ... I lowered my bag weight and changed some of my picks.
I always go back & forth about changing the winning bag weight because all it takes is one guy to find a few big ones to keep the winning weight high even if the averages go down.
Chris Lane did that back in 2014. The weights for 2nd thru 12th were where you would expect for a tournament where a cold front kicks through (65 - 75 lbs), but Lane found some big fish and ended up over 90 lbs.
Day one has been cancelled due to winds .
Yep, pretty rough weather coming here in South Ga. I figured it would make today miserable.
Well so much for all the excitement I had for today..
Oh well, safety is always #1. We'll kick it off tomorrow morning.
I've been sick , so planned on staying in today and watch Bass Live .
If you had told me at the start of the week that I would be tied for the lead in Fantasy Fishing come the end of today, I would have been quite excited.
Now, not so much...
Winds are howling after that storm last night. Wouldn't be surprised if they cancel today's tournament too.

Its been cancelled .
Saturday and Sunday the wind is suppose to subside
So how does a shortened tournament work?
My tie breaker weight went from 90 to 51 lbs .
Here's an official update on how BASS is going to handle this tournament.

QuoteCompetition in the AFTCO Bassmaster Elite at St. Johns River is expected to resume Saturday morning when the field of 88 anglers launches at 7:15 a.m. ET from Palatka City Dock and Boat Ramp. Weigh-ins will be held at 3:30 p.m. ET at Palatka Riverfront Park. The full field will compete Saturday and Sunday.
The current plan is to complete the tournament on Monday, when anglers will fish a shortened competition day. Launch on Monday will be at 6:45 a.m. ET and the weigh-in will be held at 2:00 p.m. ET.
And we're officially under way!

I've been watching since 6:30 .
LOL Menendez has a brand new boat and he didnt check it out thoroughly . He turned his livewell on for the first time and the bilge ran instead . There is no water in the livewell .
For those watching live , anyone else turn it off when Dave Mercer is on? I'd rather listen to pigs squeal .
I don't really like a lot of the commentary, but I like hearing the anglers talk while they're fishing. I've been putting on the live mix instead most of the time, and checking in on the main stream only occasionally.
Its funny that, as secretive as they try to be, lots of guys can't help themselves from giving a running monologue to the camera about what they're thinking and doing.
how can I watch this online... for free?

My C bucket pick Kelley Jay sitting in first place after day one!
Lucky!!
Somehow I'm 5th in the group after Day 1. I expect that to change.
Didn’t have time to research this one much, so I’m pretty happy with my mediocre day one. My Bucket A pick of Cory Johnston is currently bombing hard which sure ain’t helping though

Nice!
The question now is: Who's going to catch the 9lber tomorrow?

Kinda the same thing, isn't it?
I was fortunate to get 4 of my 5 picks into the top 20, with my number 5 (Brandon Cobb) doing well enough today to turn a bomb into just a missed cut.
Congratulations to the bassresource leader, WMurtha with 1249 points. I am in 2nd, 34 points behind, however, due to the way the scoring works and our choices, I actually have a good chance to catch him.
We have 2 of the same picks (Walters & Gross), so their performance tomorrow is moot. WMurtha has Mueller, who is in 1st and can only lose points by not winning the tournament (or gain 5 points by winning it). My other two choices are in 18th & 20th respectively (Latuso & Prince) so for all intents & purposes, they have no where to go but up, gaining points. Some of the guys in the middle (9th to 18th) are reeling, having slid into the cut by having a big first day and just getting by today, so having an angler move up 10 plus places would not be unexpected.
Tomorrow should be fun...

This would have aged better as a real prediction than as a sarcastic one -- 2 out of 3 fishing on the last day, including the leader...not bad!

I was in 52nd yesterday. Then Kyle came in swinging hard today. My first time doing this Fantasy Fishing league stuff and the only guy on my roster I know anything about is Kyle because I watch his YouTube. He only has 9K subs but I suspect his channel may take off slightly more with a strong finish.
The rest of the people on my roster had other high percentages of people having them on their roster ????♂️

Nice, it's cool to see rookies do well. I went in expecting a normal St Johns slugfest but the weather threw a wrench into the plans. It kind of turns into a crapshoot after that. I'll get the points back at Chickamauga next week.
Is Bassmaster live working . I'm getting the Live Mix to load .
I just rebooted everything and its working now .
Zaldain crapped out on me!!

My picks are all over the place after the second day. Here's where my crew is after 2 official days.
Prince - 20
Walters - 5
Jaye - 2
Hudnell - 78
Cappo - 81
With about 15 minutes to go, it looks like Steve Kennedy is going to blank for today. What's crazy about that, is that in a 3 day event, he'll have weighed in 8 total fish and still be finishing in 20th place out of 88.

that is absolutely insane lol
The Chickamauga tournament has been postponed due to high water. The Classic is next, March 6-8 Lake Guntersville.
I dont see Ott Defoe listed in any of the buckets . Do classic winners get an automatic berth the next year ?

That isn't quite right, he isn't fishing the Classic because he isn't fishing the Elite Series. Ott will be there to hand the trophy off to the new champion.
"When we chose to fish the Bass Pro Tour instead of the Elite Series, we knew this would be the last Bassmaster Classic I would qualify for. Per B.A.S.S. rules, you must fish the Elite Series in order to receive your automatic berth for the next year." -Ott Defoe
