Nice thing is it's against your state until the big dance.

Then everyone is on the same playing field. I looked through the rules and it says that the lake will remain secret until the end of 2013. Has it been announced where the final event will take place?

What's the format for the final event? Bring your own boat? Locals will "caddie" for the contestants? Just curious...

Ditto.  Very first paragraph in Rules and Regulations.

In the FAQ section, it mentions SMB are eligible. I hope that is revised in R&R because that is probably going to be very over looked.

It also says Dwight is automatically disqualified for catching every trophy SMB in Erie. Sorry Dwight. It's in the fine print.

Edited by MarkH024
fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

Well the rules say

1. The only species of bass considered for qualification in the 2014 Big Bass World Championship ("2014 BBWC") will be the largemouth black bass (Micropterus salmoides). All bass entered must be caught within the territorial waters of each of the 49 eligible states (Alaska, District of Columbia, U.S. territories and U.S. possessions are not eligible).

But yet the FAQ say

Q:

What species of fish are allowed to be entered in the competition?

A: Only largemouth black bass and smallmouth bass will be considered for qualification.

Q:

So which is it? Sounds like a trap. Why announce the contest on the 18th of February when it started the first of January?

Where are you guys seeing anything about smallmouth? I went to the Bassin' site, clicked on the "Rules and Regs" on the right hand side. First thing on the page says:

Teal........we can make that happen.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

What happens when you fish multiple states? Do you get to enter a fish in each state?

fishing user avatarbraduhl reply :

Smallmouth and largemouth and spotted bass are eligible for state entries. Changed it last min thats why its on faq page.

Open to us states only, alaska doesnt count. 49 other states yes

If you fish for more than one state you can enter for each state, but can only win in one state, and second place will be taken from the others.

More questions you can call, 18005541999

It says you need a witness to the catch and a witness signature upon submission. I fish solo a lot more often than not. *Yes fishing from shore is great, you do not need a boat to fish or at the finals.

*No fish have been sent in as of todays date.

*It did start on Jan 1, but BassResource.com became an official sponsor on Feb 18, that is why you saw it there on that date.

*You do need a witness to help take the 3rd photo of you holding your fish. This is required and then you witness can sign that it is you and you caught the fish.

*Smallmouth and largemouth are both eligible to be sent in for state winning catches.

*2nd batch of Rulers Should go out this week.

Yup, I'd tend to agree.  If I join I've got to hope I catch the lunker when fishing with my buddy which is roughly 20% of the time I fish, and never when I catch my largest fish.

Your witness should be 18, as to be legal to sign their name to the witness of the catch. You witness can be anyone that saw you catch it.

They are current as of last Friday.

Yes, I know...unbelievable.  There's many states without an entry.  That means one person can enter for $25, catch a keeper fish, and could end up winning $50,000!

And to think some folks will spend hundreds, maybe thousands a year entering tournaments for a chance to win much less.

It's a no-brainer.

I just got a roll of that clear packing tape. Tore off several strips that are longer than the ruler and stuck them together to be wider as well, placed the ruler on the tape then repeat for the other side. Not perfect, but it was cheap and it worked.

So I need to respond to this because I think the post Brad was referring to is way out of line so I challenge anyone to find anything in fishing with this kind of bang for its buck. You wont its one of the great things in fishing and I for one enjoyed it. I actually called and got Brad directly and he was very informative and answered all of my questions. I even found that the information directed you exactly on what to do to qualify. This is one of the coolest things in our sport great job Bassin with it and it was ran perfectly for me. Funny some people feel entitled to someones time and hard work and then want to bash it. I am not saying mistakes don't happen but from my perspective it sure looks great to me! Oh and one other thing I got one heck of magazine subscription too nothing I mean nothing in America in fishing is this good of a deal.

Top prize is $25,000 with an additional prize of another $25,000 and more prizes such as the boat motor and trailer. It is Guaranteed $25,000. The additional prizes are determined by ounces of the winning fish, when the final fish is weighed, the sealed envelope is opened and that determines the extra prizes.

Hey Brad,

It says I'm a state leader on the scoreboard, but haven't heard anything yet. Sent you an email and haven't heard anything from that either.

I'm just trying to figure out when/where this will be so I can make my travel plans as well as making sure I can get off work. If it is indeed happening in September, I would appreciate some details before this comes up too quickly.

All contestants packets were sent out today, and will explain every detail. Thanks!

I'd like to put in a request. In 2015 it would be nice to maybe have a pre-determined date set for when the championship tourney will be so contestants can make plans ahead of time. Probably make for a better turn-out come tourney time as some people need a least a months notice to take vacation. I can see keeping the lake secret but I don't believe it would hurt to reveal the date set for the 2015 tourney. Just a suggestion.

I curious if boats and lodging were provided for the winners? Thank you kindly.
