Do you have a lure that you use that is no longer very popular? I sometimes use a creme worm pre-rigged with a prop, which I don't see a lot of people using.
A tube. I use a tube all the time. It’s not fancy it’s not sexy it’s not the best new thing. It’s just extremely effective where I fish.
I haven’t heard this talked about at all on this forum but...
with all the new, great, topwater lures out today I still use a jitter bug. I've been using them for over 50 yrs. and the gurgle sound they make brings back so many memories, and is still effective.
I've retired most of my 70's/80's/90's baits except for some Cotton Cordells' Hot Spot (1 knocker) mostly because I had so many. They still catch 'em...
If you're not using a Johnson Silver Minnow in thick weeds, you're missing out
Rogers Big Jim Squarebill .I would still use a Dalton Special if I had one .
biggest bass i ever caught early, very early, in the morning on a private 30 acres lake...heddon dying flutter...discontinued...still have it...use it carefully...sentimental...
good fishing...
casting spoons. I a have gotten hooked on buying the new custom colors from Eppenger MFG. who is famous for the red and white daredevle. I have had a pretty good pike and bass bite on them so far this year. Just cast it out let it sink to desired depth and just reel it in. Casting spoons are hugely popular for casting off of the breakwaters for steel head and salmon. There is also some northern pike guys who still use them. However, the bass fishermen have pretty much all but, forgotten about them. the two big 1ozers on the left are the customs.
Rapala Flat Rap. I think Rapala must be discontinuing them. Only place I can get them is Rapala online. They work well on bass but they are Snook Candy and snook are rough on plugs.
I break down down and order a dozen or so at a time but their color selection is dwindling which makes me think they are on the verge of discontinuing them.
can’t find anything that comes close for catching snook.

I’d be interested in reading someone’s experience with this, it’s too goofy to catch me-the fisherman, but I guess it’s probably smaller than I think it is, and is basically this? ;
Heddon Tiny Torpedo
Fleck Spinnerbait
Zoom Ringworm (nearly identical to the Rebel Ringworms)

The bat comes in multiple sizes, I own the smallest and the biggest is huge, if I remember right. I have not used one of those lures nor seen them in action but they look similar. The bat has rattles, a ton of vibration, and makes bubbles. If you change your retrieve rate, the action varies as well. The only thing that sucks is the wings bend so you have to bend them back at a 65° ish degree angle.

Black and silver Mister Twister Sassy Shad. They are incredibly durable and appeal to multi-species. They must be the early pioneer to finesse swimbaits

Right on brother!!!!!! I have a stash of them and in 3 colors, baby bass, clear, and coach dog. The Dying Flutter is a little more subtle than a devils horse and has a thinner profile and for some reason it hooks up close to 100% of the time. I can remember the last time I had a fish blow up on it that it didn't get hooked, if you ever find these at a flea market or yard sale don't hesitate to pick them up.
Curly tail grubs, esp 5" Kalins and tubes, two baits that I think will keep fooling bass for a long time
This one. Breaking fish that won't bite is the most frustrating thing ever. This lure usually cures that plus the fish don't see it much around here.
+1 for the Jitterbug. Caught my PB 2 years ago on one. Also Devils Horse, Tiny Torpedo, and Helbender (on gravel beds for Smallmouth)
I use Rebel Deep Wee R's , Original Lunker Lure , Pico Pop , Bomber Long A , Strike King Rocket Shad , Manns Jelly worm ,Rattlin Thin Fin ..
Acme Phoebe.
Wob-L-Rite gold spoons.
Not sure if these were really popular or not, but I love me some Storm Chug Bugs. Awesome combo of spitting and walking the dog.
Smithwick' Rattling Rogue
Gold, black back, orange belly ????
Storm Hot n Tot
Real old school here. Lazy Ikes and Hellbenders. Don't throw either a lot but they both catch fish Same goes with Jitterbugs and Hulapoppers. The H&H are my favorite spinnerbaits
Yozuri Floating Minnow. While I use them too, suspending jerkbaits are all the rage with the cool kids, but I still like floaters for fishing them just below the surface.
banjo minnow
Mepps spinners,Johnson silver minnow,Strike King Timber spoon.Manns Razorback Pig crankbaits.got a lot of older lures that I still use.

For the Upper Potomac, Susquehanna, and Juniata this is probably the most popular lure used.

One year I decided to become a better top water angler and dedicated at least one hour of every trip to top waters . I had one Dalton Special and that was my most productive lure out of all of them .
Grub
Johnson silver minnow with an Uncle Josh pork rind trailer and sometimes a Jitterbug. Fun at night over weed beds.
Tubes Tubes Tubes! I guess they aren't cool anymore but they tear em up for me. Also when other guys fish ned rigs I look to the tube
In in with a Johnson Silver minnow. Years ago , pork trailer, now plastic. Still works well over moss. Also a white Hendon moss boss spoon, and of course black jitterbug
2016 whopper plopper....not sure if anyone has ever heard of it
Jitterbug. I never see anyone else using them locally.

They're kind of similar, but a little different, much wider body. They get bit though.

This guy gets it!
Duo realis pencil 110... they don’t seem very popular but they are so effortless to walk. I like them better than the heddon and that is saying something. I don’t throw walking baits often but when I do this is the one.
Lil' Cleo Wiggle Lure.
Luhr Jensen Hot Lips and Speed Trap and a Cotton Cordell Ripplin Red Fin.
Rapala Crankin Raps, the 3 and 5 size squarebills. I think they discontinued them a couple years ago but Ive caught thousands of bass on them through the years. They are my favorite crankbait for shallow water.
Chompers Lizards. The garlic smell alone makes kind of unwanted.

Man, I have a few ideas these I got in a lot off of eBay and I can't get much action out if them. What's the secret?
Fat IKA...nobody we fish with uses these despite all the success we've had with them over the past ten years or so. Older son just won a small local tourney using it. Thanks again RoadWarrior for the tip.

@fishwizzard
First - I change the hooks out to a quality after market model - Mustad, Gamaktsu or Owner. I like no feather here too.
As for the secret - Perhaps think of the Subwalk as a 'Suspending Fluke with two trebles' and fish it that way.
One way I fish it, is like a jerkbait but in warmer water situations where I might normally fish topwater. Fish still need to come 'up' to get it, just not 'all the way up'. Works as a 'follow-up' to a missed topwater strike now & then too. Of course you have to have it rigged & ready.
I almost always use spinning gear (10 braid & a 10 lb mono leader - about 10 ft). Great to bomb casts and get the bait as far from the boat as I can - especially in this clear water. In colder water Sub mid 50's, I let the bait pause more. It has a great 'roll to a stop' action that I believe generates quite a few strikes.
In plus mid 50 temps I fish this bait pretty fast. Still like a jerk bait but 'the pause' is like a millisecond. Short Jerk, reel up slack, - short jerk, reel up slack - but pretty fast. Pretty much constant reeling and jerking. I watch smallies appear behind the bait & track it for a ways the then Smash it. Trick is if you see one (or several) don't stop the bait, they love the chase & will lose interest if the bait doesn't keep moving - speeding it up can be a trigger too.
Once shallow weeds emerge I'll throw & fish this over them - the magic is the the long cast and the fast retrieve. I will also add I've caught (and lost a few) to some hefty pike too.
Confidence in a bait is a big deal and if you think this is a dud - well that's not going to help you BUT I get it. I can't catch a cold on a Glide bait and I have a box of them - everyone else is all about them. Me - well, not so much.
Hope this helps.

the little H & H spinnerbaits are killer for ky bass. heavy , small, fast dropping baits you can move slowlllly. found some here in nc at academy.
Flatfish is my oldie but goodie. X4 or x5 in perch.
I just got a Lucky 13. Sort of cheaply made. Changed the hooks to shorter hooks with split rings, as I do all Heddon and Arbogast lures. Thinking of copying it in wood.
I have 20 H&Hs in my box at all times. It’s all my wife uses. And she consistently catches fish year round on them. She also loses about a bait per hour so it doesn’t cost me much lol
Devil's horse
Jerkbaits in the summer. I know jerkbaits are pretty popular, but I never see anyone using them when it's 90+ degrees. ????

Cool looking plug. No props no nothing? What’s it do and what’s it called? Pencil bait ?
It's an old saltwater boy howdy. I have a couple freshwater ones also. The local bass elite series angler said that's the only saltwater one he's ever saw then commenced to ask where I could get more lol. It's works a lot like a walking bait just plunges a few inches under the water
Balsa wood cranks don't seem to be in style anymore. I like the older rapala shad rap #5 or #7 in silver and black
Since I don't own/use senkos turds or neds i figure everything i throw is unpopular.????
Mister Twister 6" black phenom worms (old bags in banana scent if you can find them)
Yamamoto Kut Tails - don't see them mentioned anywhere but they're one of my go-to plastics.
I still fish a Silver Buddy, a firetail power worm Texas rigged, & Salty Crawlin Grub. All of which I rarely see thrown or talked about anymore.
I catch more 2-4lb smallmouth on a Berkeley Gulp Minnow in the winter than all my other baits combined.
+1 on the rattling rogue. I like the suspending version, orange/silver/black with the black gill stripes.
Probably all of them. For example, everyone says green pumpkin, green pumpkin or watermelon. Whelp, when there are rocks in clear water covered in green hairy slime algae and you throw those popular colors, you can see the fish looking for the senko when they smell it or hear it, but they can’t find it. They’re eyes must be all greened out. From what I’ve read, their eyes don’t adjust for light and color linstantly like ours, it could take up to an hour to adjust. If you throw something else that isn’t popular like pink, they’ll see it. I wouldn’t believe it unless I’ve seen them looking around like blind morons unable to actually find the bait. With a very different color, you’ll see them attack it by sight sometimes when it catches their eyes, but if it’s almost the same color as everything else they see, it’s like it’s invisible and they won’t attack it. I seen a lot of weird fish behaviors an this one is one of the worst. It’s like they’re completely blind.
Solid black soft plastics.
