I have stalked these forums for a while. I have learned a lot. The following seem to be consistent themes
1. Rage tail yamamoto, keitech and zoom soft baits
2. Gamakatsu, owner, trokar hooks
3. People have very strong opinions about hook shape.
4. Natural or tranlucent colors in clear water (up north, out west), dark or bright colors down south in stained or muddy.
5. Jig fishing approaches a cult like status
6. Most people prefer to either fish fast or slow. Not both. Fast with spinners, hard baits, toads, and slow with worms or jigs. It is the rare and great fisherman who is good with both.
7. Braid requires heavy hoooks,
8. Seibert or Northstar jigs
9. Senkos might be all I need to buy, but that seems boring
10. Snell, palomar, improved clinch, San Diego, Albright, Alberto knots
11. Braid in dirty water, fluro in clear. Mono? Do I need mono?
12. GP, watermellom red flake, june bug, black plastics
13. Sexy shad, chrome black back, gold black/blue back, fire tiger, citrus shad, crawfish in hard baits
14 . Pay attention when Catt, Tom, Mike S, Big O talk. I also enjoy Sir Snook alot and Big Bill for different perspectives. Many others also, but these stand out.
15. Nearly everyone has too much stuff and has trouble organizing
16. Jerkbaits and cranks seemed straight forward, but now I realize they are technical to understand and use to their full potential!
17. Whopper plopper
18. Structure, cover
19. Big baits equal big bass except when they don't
20. Don't let Elastec touch any other baits.
What am I missing?
Where's the Shimano vs. Daiwa battle?
Great post!
I noticed that you neglected to acknowledge the thousands upon thousands of the great fishing reports, pictures & videos that are such a huge part of this great site.
And how about all the great deals made and currently being offered in the BR Flea Market ?
Good Stuff right there.
So yes, Id say you're missing something.
Interesting 2nd post (in 7 years) btw
A-Jay
It's never operator error, it's always the wrong rod, reel, line, or lure!
LOL... Dude, you are missing the wacky rig!
You forgot one more thing. You should never, under any circumstances, ask about weather bass care about line visibility or not. Selective harvest versus strict c&r is a dangerous topic to.

Yes, be careful with those and also tread lightly on ethics of bed fishing

This might be one of the best posts I've seen in a while. This pretty much sums up about 70% of the content I see on a daily basis. Haha!
Don't forget Lew's!
Toss in a little ned, a bit of what rod/reel should I get, and a few stucture/covers, and you're all set

It is a requirement that ANY threads that reference the Ned rig (poop jig) must be at least 7 pages long! I mean, it's a really complicated technique.

It is funny that someone like myself, who didn't know what the NED rig was prior to joining, that when you look at a huge thread like that you do assume it must be something complicated.
I'm reading through it wondering what I'm missing. LOL.
Honestly this post just shows where you browse the most. Fishing tackle and general bass fishing.
There is something on here for everyone . From tackle making to help with your boat. And everything in between.
You forgot,
21. Kastking reels are inferior as they cost under $100, unless you tried one.
What about "Best rod and reel under $100"
That's a staple in this community
You forgot All black cavitron buzzbaits and if tcbass keeps it up the teckel sprinkler frog thing, Buck Perry's spoonplugging. You left A-jay, team9, way2slow, jfranco, and the guy(who's name I can't remember but he posted the bass documentary), fishnkamp, and long typing roadwarrior out of guys to listen too.
Oh and fishmas! Can't forget that
How can picture based weights not be on the list?
Don't forget The Sprinker Frog. Normal and home made

Stop making sense. This is a fun thread
@riverbasser I think you're talking about paulroberts
Many people on here offer good advice. Really depends on the advice you're seeking.
"Which (insert virtually anything here) is best?
You need mono or mono leaders for surface lures. FC takes the line down and affects the action of many surface lures by pulling them under on the twitch.
My personal favorite is "I haven't fished in 147 years. How do I catch bass?"
*might be a bit exaggerated*
You forgot the age old question that gets asked a dozen times every winter...
"If you were stranded with only one lure..."
What to use where, how and when....
Mike
- Fluorocarbon sucks
- Braid is great, with or without a leader
- Gliss is bliss
- Yozuri Hybrid is better than all of them
- Only Catt still throws mono
- Problem is, there is no such thing as monofilament anymore. It's either a monomer, polymer, hybrid, copolymer or some other technical variation. Don't worry if you get them confused and use the wrong term; you will be corrected
- Everybody fishes or throws at structure these days even though nobody can agree on its definition
- You're either a practitioner of Midwest Finesse or a Ned Rig thrower, but likely not both
- Everybody wants to know what the best " " is, but it turns out opinions suggest that everything is the best to someone
- Everyone likes to know what your 1, 3, 5, 10 best lures (or models within a lure type) are, but in reality, nobody asking or answering the question has that few lures, or could ever live with such limited options; but it's always fun to dream anyway
- Could someone please explain the relationship between IPT, gear ratio, leverage, and bicycles again?
- Reel drags are the greatest modern innovation since channel lock pliers
Thanks @Team9nine. How do you get Cherry Coke off the monitor?

Yep that's him. And you are absolutely right about that I was just thinking of some of the older or "seasoned" anglers we have on here that seem to specialize in particular subjects. Lot of great folks on here

On a less serious note - Should I use snap swivels, snaps, or just tie direct?
Hmmm. What about, "With whom would you rather be stranded on a desert island? J-Lo or Angelina?" Eek! Wrong site! I meant, "With whom would you rather spend a day fishing?" (In either version my answer would still be "Angelina" although at my age I don't know what I'd do with her ... mebbe have her hold the spool why I loaded line on my reels.)
no hands?
I can't get my photos to post.
Pretty accurate. I especially like #5.
Jig fishermen cult comment had me cracking up!!!
OP, you forgot to add another common theme...... bass angler wannabes, like me, think what works for me should apply to everyone in all locations throughout the U. S. no matter what!
This is a great post!! Thank you for the humor
Top water baits should only come in white or black.
Don't call it a "rat l trap" or "chatterbate," it's a lipless crankbait, bladed jig.
I can't catch fish because I'm stuck on the shore.
Thanks for your responses. I need to correct my first statement. I have been stalking this specific forum reading back to 2012.
I also left out A-Jay's punch rig. I even bought one to try! From Siebert's! And rage tails.
I think many people ask for corroboration rather than information.
I don't post much, that is true. Don't know much. I have read a lot of the articles and watched a lot of videos/ you tube posts on here. Good stuff.
now if I had to choose fishing with Glen or J-Lo,.no contest. Sorry, Glen.

I see this question often presented in different ways. Its like they think they are going to hit a home run knowing the exact lure a certain member uses. It takes more than that to be consistently good at bass fishing!
How much does this bass weigh? And if you guess less than I think it was when I caught it, you're wrong.
I like that I don't feel like a lot of the list applies to my line of thinking, makes me feel like I'm doing something right
Oh my !!! You all will pay a dear price for not including someone here.
Everyones lil friend the BAIT MONKEY
although i disagree most people on here think diawa>shimano

Look, with just my arm I can't throw a jig way up into a tree so when it happens while fishing it's clearly the rod's fault.
How else are you gonna catch squirrels?
I feel it's a little unsportmanslike to catch them in the trees, I only ground-fish for squirrels.
In all seriousness, I started reading this site about two years ago and have learned a ton. I also have a ton more tackle piled all over my office, but I think that is just a coincidence.

Really fun post. Thanks TRN. So much I could comment on. But won't. I'm just readn em.
Love this thread!
Oh yeah, Ned Rig!
I feel the Tracker Heritage thread should be added to the updated list
Don't forget the best hollow body frog
When asking which is the best fish finder, everyone says theirs is ( that's kind of a tease because they'll never give it to you).
Universal answers
Is the screen on my fish finder big enough--- NO!
Do I need more rods and reels---YES!
Do I need more tackle-----YES!
Does my boat go fast enough----NO!
Should I buy this---- NO!, buy the more expensive one!
Do I need a bigger tow vehicle---- YES!
I was gunna say "this is my budget, what's the best....."
Someone always says "well if you spend a little more"

I use the ground presentation to catch squirrels. It is, admittedly, difficult to revive them for release after I've run them over.
Funny this thread got resurrected. It was meant to be tongue in cheek, obviously. However, not mentioning the Bait Monkey sure got him stirred up.
Left handed or Right Handed Reels. Which is best and why are you wrong?
Just bought all three flavors of MegaStrike. Do scents work?
Wait...Oh my God they just added "Squid" as a new flavor!...
EDIT: Just bought all three FOUR flavors of MegaStrike.

So just today I was playing with new rod in the yard when I noticed the barn cat was stalking my jig as I was dragging it along the driveway. Not wanting to hook her, I whipped the jig back in and hit myself right in the wedding tackle. That cat better catch a lot of mice this year.....

You missed out, a panicked cat can pull a lot of drag in a hurry. Invest in some good leather gloves (preferably that go to the elbow, or cover your entire body), and some long handled pliers. I prefer something with treble hooks because of a cats tendency to swat at a bait, I find them difficult to hook on single hooked baits.

The forum rules and FAQ's are your friend on questions like this,
Why does the site or product name I posted show up as "another site" or as ***?
First it has nothing to do with competition. In most cases, it has something to do with the bullet point above - site owners not abiding by the rules of the forum, or over-zealous pro-staffers spamming the forums. In some cases, however, the site owner specifically requested that we do not link to their site.
