For the second straight year I didnt catch a big bass . My biggest was around five lbs on a hand poured buzzbait. Sept 9.
A homemade 1/8oz shakyhead with a Zoom Magnum Finesse worm in redbug color, 7.43lbs on 1/2/2018.
A 1/2oz Booyah Bankroll Jig in Money with a YUM Craw Chunk in Crawfish as a trailer.
10 pounds, 5 ounces. Biggest bass I've ever caught in my life. I'm hoping to beat it this year.
Not sure what it weighed. Guessing around 8ish. Caught on a Carolina rigged speed craw.
Belly weighted fluke. 7 pound 11 ounces. It is the fish in my profile picture
BoneHead Tackle Ring Worm - 7" black blue flake ????
Only 18" caught on a Creme topwater stickbait in walk the shad
Caught my biggest this year on a frog. Came in at 6.7. No pictures, so I guess it didn’t really happen.
Funniest thing about it was I caught it in a very heavily pressured city pond, so not many of the locals believed me, either. Until I showed em pictures of a few other 5+ pounders I caught out of the same pond.
Biggest Brown Bass of 2018 came in August on topwater of all things - 6-4 on a Pop Max.
My Biggest Green Bass 11-5 came in October (south of the border) on a Strom Wild Eye Shad 6 inch.
Good Times
A-Jay
Caught a 7# 2oz on a Tenn Shad Bandit 100 at the Rez, my biggest there. Sorry no picture but after that I went and bought a Go Pro. ????
Caught one over 6lbs on a magnum rage bug Texas rigged
I think it was one of these
My biggest smallie of the year, just under 6lb came on a Berkley Gulp minnow on a drop shot, biggest largemouth, right at 5lb came on a Texas rigged Berkley maxscent creature hawg.
No real big ones this year, got one about 8 on a swim jig and one a tad smaller on a chatter.
8.1 . Caught on july 19 on a 5 inch torn up senko. I think it was watermelon slice color.
Dobyns Beast spinnerbait. 6.97 pounds.
2018 was a really bad year for me. Didn't catch anything over 3#. My biggest LMB and SMB both caught on baby brush hogs.

I had a bad year, also. I caught less than 10 fish all year.
My my biggest bass was around 6.5lbs and was caught on a weightless Zoom fluke.
Booyah Frog. I forget the exact weight but it was right around 4-4
My biggest bass ever 4lbs. Caught on a Savage Gear 5 inch baby bass paddle tail swim bait in the Sabine River near Orange, Texas.
8.5lb on Dirty Jigs Pitching jig, 1/2 oz. pond bug color.
Best smallie 6-1 on a pointer 128 in Aurora red.
Best largemouth 9-4 caught on an indigenous swimbait in gold shiner color.
6.3 pounds on a Spro Little John
6.25 on the Ned rig 1/16 oz head 6# fluoro
Just an observation ....in 23-25 posts only one was caught on a jig.
I’ve always considered the jig to be a big bass lure and I have caught some big ones with jigs....but not my biggest.
Only 2 was over 10lbs and one was caught on a jig....

I like how casually people can say "Yeah I just got an 8 pounder, nothing too impressive..." like it happens all the time. Man for me that'd be a monster, and I'd have to slap myself, then jump into the water to make sure it wasn't a dream!
Biggest one I caught last year was either on a topwater whopper plopper or that one I hooked a few feet of the bank while retrieving a spinner bait... pretty close between the two. Neither was 2 lbs. but I'll take any fish over no fish!
Largest I got was a 5.8lb'r on a Berkley warpig in March. Looked to be post spawn or a large male?
My favorite catch of 2018 was the 5.12lb'r I caught on my B-day in March. Very nice looking specimen which has a very distinct dotty like birthmark. Maybe she's got dotty's genes as Lake Perris isn't all that far from Dotty's home. I've heard that LMB were illegally stocked at Lake Perris in the past. Not 100% sure on the lure but it was either a Warpig or a Rat-l-trap.
I look forward to possibly catching her again someday. I figure with the distinct birthmark it'll be easy to ID her.
No monsters this past year, but caught alot of numbers. Hoping for another DD in 2019!
Hoping my local rivers will stay well below flood stage. Record rainfall has kept the rivers in the treetops.
2 3/4” Tube. Maybe it’s because I throw that most of the time.
GP 5/16oz finesse jig but it was only about 3.5 lbs. Hopefully I can get out more this year in the spring.
Allen
Not big but the biggest this year. 5.2 on a weightless, TX rigged, Black Zoom magnum finesse worm.
Largemouth-10.5"worm

I agree about trying to find out if it is a dream or not. If I could catch one 5 pounder a year I would be having a good year. It just doesn't happen very often. At least not for me. This is why I don't fish tournaments.
Being “up north” anything 6 lbs and bigger is considered a big’un.
My biggest of 2018 was the smallest year-best I've recorded since 2013 -- just a 3.8, on a wacky-rigged senko:
On the bright side, plenty of room for improvement in 2019!

Are the bodies of water you fish known to have big bass? Not all lakes will produce big bass. It only takes 1 cast to catch that fish of a lifetime so don't give up hope.

5-6lb Spot or SMB could be considered a big one in any state. Not like they grow to the monster size that LMB's can achieve.
It was one of these two, they were nearly identical in size...Don't know the weights since I didn't weigh them, both were practice days and I don't keep a scale in the boat. I weighed a few upper-5's in this year, but both of these were a little bigger than any of those. (Yes, that tattoo'd up one is also my profile pic, just the other side)
Both were actually caught on the same bait, but different bodies of water and different times. 3/8 OG Phenix chatter.

Some might be influenced by location, where such a fish is not quite as noteworthy...But much of it is just good humble-bragging .

Two weeks ago I took my wife to a nearby pond where I have been slaying them on a Ned Rig. I just showed her this pic and told her that you caught this on the same size lure and line that she was catching 2 pounders a couple weeks ago. She gasped and said, "I don't WANT to catch that on that same size line!". LOL! That's a nice Ned fish right there.

Not many states offer a realistic shot at a fish over 10 either.
3 over 10 were confirmed from Ks this year. 1 on a crankbait, 1 on a jig, and one on a live green sunfish on a limb line. The crankbait fish was the largest, less than a pound off the state record. First time in my life I can remember more than one confirmed fish over 10 being caught in my home state in the same year.

Lol, hey don't take me wrong! It's great to hear about! Love hearing others are being successful catching the big ones, as well as having fun.

The last few years, Michigan DNR has tracked tournament results state-wide, and published summary results. The reports from 2016 and 2017 indicate the total number of bass entered in all registered tournaments, average weights, the largest bass caught, and so on, including the number of bass over 6lb.
2016
2017
While the system obviously doesn't get every bass caught in the state, it does give an approximate estimate of how often an experienced angler might expect to catch bass over 6lb in some of our more-pressured public waters.
The summary reports for 2016 and 2017 give the following:
23 out of 80,000+ Michigan tournament bass in 2016 were 6lb or more
43 out of 90,000+ Michigan tournament bass in 2017 were 6lb or more
SO, we're talking only 66 over 6lb, out of more than 170,000, or a rate of about 1 in more than 2576. And I believe that only includes weighed bass, so the rate would be much lower if you included every culled or undersized bass that was caught.
So, yeah, people catch 'em sometimes, in some places, but they don't exactly grow on trees.
Talk about a bunch of awesome photos. Bass from three countries and across the entire USA. I'm honored to be among you guys and those yet to post. Cool stuff.
Biggest from the Minnesota Mississippi Backwaters @ 7.56#'s on a Chatterbait...Which an odd coincidence tied my other PB from Minnesota @ 7.56# from 2013 was on a jig...
But the most bad@ss largie Ive ever caught in my life goes to this one with the patches from 2018 same day, just before the above PB...
I’m not sure which was bigger. The spinnerbait was Rodman and the crank was Eufaula.
Biggest I weighed. 22” 6 lbs 4 oz caught on a Magnum Christie Critter
Didn't have a great year last year, but my largest was caught on a 3/8 black jig, with a black and blue trailer.
Biggest northern strain was about 6lb on a black buzzbait w/black blade.
My best for the year was on a 1/2 oz double willow war eagle spinnerbait in mouse, it came in just shy of 4 lbs.
Keitech SI Fat 4.3 white on 1/8 oz. weighted hook
2.84 (personal PB) on a 3/8oz BHite Delight Jackhammer chatterbait with a 4.8" Ghost Shad BPS Speed Shad trailer
Two biggest for 2018:
•5.5 lb largemouth on a jig/trailer
•20 inch smallmouth on Caffeine Shad
Being an “up-North guy” I’ve caught a few hundred bass over 5 lbs but have yet to crack 6 pounds. My humble New Years goal for 2019
my biggest Smallmouth of 2018 was caught on a size 90 Whopper Plopper in Bluegill color
Horrible pic of the scale but she weighed in at 4.01
110+1 KO I painted. Jan 2018 and weighed 7-1#
I Double wide beaver 3/4oz. Tungsten wgt. 6/0grip pin hook. 6-1

Xrap Ghost- First cast of the season!
Lost it later that day
4.75 on a baby brush hog
Largest for 2018 was caught on a 5" Senko, color Amber Laminate (which sounds like the name of a dancer down at the local club). It was weightless & wacky rigged, skipped under a dock in about 4 feet of water. She was post spawn, weighing just 6 lb, 2 oz despite her 24" length & big fat head.
BTW, I am not a big fan of quantum, I just got the shirt for free

Great looking bait! Feels better catching them on something you made as well. Now send me one or two to test to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

I am a Quantum fan and own about 25 of them but they have never given me a shirt.

biggest smallie. Lake Fork magic popper in bluegill during the mayfly hatch. Biggest largie came punching mats with a Gambler Ugly Otter in Bowens silver with a black an blue punch skirt. Largie weighed just under 4.5 lbs in Illinois. Smallie is a Traverse City area smallie and not sure what it weighed. Topwater bite was ON and didnt want to waste valuable time.
Mine was a 23in. LM on a 5in. Havoc Grass Pig rigged on a Siebert jig head. I went through about fifteen packs of those baits last season. Just my luck, they're getting difficult to locate around here now.

WalMart carries them around here, usually in a bin on the bottom of the shelves instead of hanging up. I have quite a few still I believe, I can send them to you, I rarely use them anymore.
Bass season is closed for the spawn on L.I. between May 1st and the end of the 1st week of June. The NYC bucket brigades hammer our waters mercilessly taking everything they can get away with including bass. They'll take a bluegill smaller than a saltine. Most are sold to particular restaurants in the city. So, I let the bass be, per regulations.
The last three weeks of April were fire though! Got a few 4 pounders and everything below. But before then I'd convinced myself that aliens had beamed all the bass to a different universe. I couldn't, and neither could any of the local hardcores, get bit for nothin from December until then! Part of the issue is the two fall trout stockings in October and November. The bass crush trout and don't seem interested in biting artificials, even trout Hudds and such. The lakes are shallow near shore. The cold sets in. The deeper holes are out of reach. Kaput.
I hit my spot running when the season re-opened. Fished before work and after dinner. Snuck in some lunches too. Zilch! Two weeks skunked. I was power fishing, thinking the bass wanted to eat and would chase. Wrong. Eating dinner one night I said to my wife "have an idea, gotta go". This is after I said I'd be taking a small break. There was no protest. She's a good one. Anyway, it had struck me that I needed to go in a different direction fast: Slow way way down.
The lightest setup I had not used up to that point was a BG2500 spinner with Transoptic 8lb test on a 6'6" Tatula M. I was getting blanked on 5-6" senkos previously, so I rigged up a Zoom Fluke Stik instead, T-rigged weightless, Owner 4ot. I know, I know, not a real Texas rig without a bullet weight. I'm rusty. Cut me some slack!
June 21st. 6:40 pm. I hit my lake. Chucked the fluke stik straight out. Instead of instantly popping it then dragging it then popping it again, I let it soak. Felt like forever. Was more like two minutes. Then ever so slowly I dragged it a little, then let it soak. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Fish on! Got her in. Maybe 2 1/2lbs. Had to kiss her! It worked.
6:47 pm
The next cast I whipped it out left, parallel to the bank, a good 100ft cast. Let it soak, then soak some more. Dragged it slowly for a skosh. Soaked it again. Reeled in again and I'm snagged in weeds? But I'm not! Fish on! It's really heavy and fighting hard. She breaks the surface with a violent head shake. From 80 feet out I could see she was a montsta. Drag is screaming! At that precise moment two guys were approaching my spot from a path. They erupt. Holy this and holy that! Ya know. As I get her close she takes a hard run straight into some downed bushes and wraps me up. I'd been fishing with 30 and 50lb braid for weeks and here I am wrapped in branches with the biggest fish I'd ever seen personally. Nothing seperating us but 8 pound mono! I couldn't believe it. Defeated I said " I can't believe I'm gonna lose this fish". Next I said " I'm goin in!". Somehow, someway, just then, she erupted again and spun herself out. A miracle if there ever was one! Got her to the shore and she was football fat. Lipped her, wet my other hand and scopped her up horizontal. Had to cradle her with my palm to just balance her, and I have mitts. One of the dudes took my camera and got some shots. Measured just shy of 23 inches. I didn't want to wreck her jaw so I didn't weigh her. Against very bad odds this fish had somehow survived the bucket mobs. Just wanted to get this one in safe and unharmed. It was a good day.
P.S. I went out the next day and bought 10 more bags of Fluke Stiks. Buy 5 and get 5 free! Haven't caught a single fish on em since then. Doh!

Maybe next time we get together, appreciate the thought. Maybe my local WM will bring 'em back when the season kicks in.
11lbs SK structure bug.
5 pounder on a Norman Fat Boy crankbait. Must have been in early May because it was right before I went into the hospital.
7 pounds on a fluke in the smokin shad color
5 pounds 7 ounces on the whopper plopper this fall. Broke my PB and my rod tip...
Throughout the season my top 5 were all caught on jigs, but then on the very last day I fished, in 42 degree water I caught my biggest of the year on a Strike King jerk bait.
According to the BBWC 7.28
Caught on a 4” pit boss pitched into pads.

6.45lb caught on a Gantarel Jr, way upstate NY
Largest smallie was around 3.5lbs: caught on a 3" SK coffee tube
6.13lbs MA fish, MS slammer at midnight early may
5.13lbs caught on a Savage Gear line thru trout (6 inch version), OR
