Its my first year really getting into bass fishing, I found a place to fish next year, because I have been researching a place to fish for weeks now. Hard work pays off. I also have a quantum pt rod and some quantum reel that is really nice.
The best thing to do when starting out is read, read, read. That's what I did when I started out.
When I have free time at school and after homework other than fishing I spend on the forums and the article section. It really helped me.
Spro 30 and 40 rats
Gonna hopefully catch a fish on one of my Triple Trout swimbaits I have.....hopefully.
I think the biggest thing is to spend the most time on the water as possible. The guy in the stand or with the rod in his hand the most will be the best outdoorsman. So that will be it for me, is spending more time in the outdoors with friends and family. After all, that's what is really important.
Large swimbaits, large swimbaits, large swimbaits, glidebaits, large swimbaits. Been buying a bunch of swimbaits either used or on sale this past year, hoping to try them out starting in the spring. This past summer was chatterbaits and squarebills which I now feel very confident in.
I have been saying for the last two years I am going to build confidence in my jig fishing but every year I cant put the shaky head and crankbait down.

Look at fishing the Bass Patrol football jigs, they are a smaller jig. Try using the 1/4 oz where you would fish a shakeyhead, and you can swim the 3/8oz as well. Both work well with smaller 2.5 to 3" trailers (I used tiny paca chunks on the 1/4 and 2.5" Trigger X Flappin Craws. 3" Flappin Craws and Paca Chunks on the 3/8 as well as Tiny Paca Craws) May help you get some faith in jig fishing once you start catching fish on them to throw a jig more often. And they do catch big fish as well.
Well i'm going to pretend that i live somewhere where it is too cold for a winter season...
My answer is a Chatterbait!
Next season, I would like to try to fill up the live well on one of these as many times as humanly possible.
A-Jay
This past season I intended to try the Ned rig but I never even bought the pieces parts for it. And I rarely picked up my spinning rod anyway as I mainly fished jigs on a baitcaster. So... I want to (try again to) try out the Ned rig next season.
This season is going to be about big bass. I was blessed with some big fish this last year while just fishing for fish, but this year I would love to be blessed with big fish while fishing for big fish .
I'm making it a point next season to go back to a few older patterns that I use to fish. It's funny how you move away from patterns that work only to go onto something else that is good and you don't pick it up again. On slow days and light bites days this past season I dug deeper into my tackle compartments and grabbed some old school stuff out and fished it. Caught a few nice fish by doing that. Get back to doing some serious tube, slider and salty spider fishing. Something new - Build a few topwater baits, build a rod kit, maybe start making some jig heads.
Rods: More Carrot Stix
Reels: More Daiwas
Lures: Bully Wa 2 frog, LiveTarget Hollowbody Sunfish, and the smaller Spro Rats.
Techniques: Finesse...regrettably.
Jig, jig, jig .... That's my 2016 plan.

Anything that is by River2Sea is great by me.

I understand completely. Jerkbaits were my go to baits then I started using other things and went about 2 years without picking a jerkbait up again.
Trying the whopper plopper and getting some swim jigs also...
I got the latest flw buyers guide magazine...Ready to spend some money. .
Rod: Shimano Zodias
Reel: Shimano Chronarch Ci4+
Lure: Whopper Plopper
Technique: Small swim bait
As far as baits and gear. Going to continue using what works. Nothing new I the mix. Thought about switching things up a little and rather than always fishing early morning for bass during the summer, fishing some evenings as well. I used to do it quite often but it's been a few years as most of my evening fishing, as of late, has been geared towards walleye. If my shoulder is fixed, I'm hoping to get into club fishing again as well as taking extended fishing trips. My son has been my partner for both of these events and I miss spending time with him.
I'm going to spend more time trying to figure out what kind of fish are showing up on my depth finder . I know twp spots that are always stacked with fish and I have caught a few bass there . I cant help but think that someplace on those deep flats is a spot full of big bass , I just have to put in the time and find them .

Underwater camera....then you can visually see what you're looking at.
Really just fish more. This year I had quite a few medical setbacks that cut my fishing time down. Hoping and praying 2016 brings better health and more fishing opportunities!
Rod: irod
Reel: lews
Bait: spro rat
Technique: large swimbait
Rods: st croix
Reels: shimano
Lures: jigs and frogs!
I started fishing in early summer this year, and I remember mid summer when I thought that all the reservoirs had too much grass to fish! Little did I know frogs are perfect for that. I knew frogs existed but I never had much confidence in them.
Gonna get a MH St croix and use it for both jigs and frogs. I was tempted to use fluro but id really like to be able to throw a frog on it too so itll be the best all purpose.
Pompadour Jr, and maybe a Popper.
Really want to get off shore with small canoe or raft.

My purchase for next season is going to be an hds7 and learn how to use it.
I don't need any more rods and reels. I don't need much more in the way of baits either. As for what do I want to try next year?
It will be to fish places/ponds/lakes I have not fished before. I enjoy trying new places. Nothing like a change of scenery from time to time.
I want to try fishing, like I used to. The last two years have been pathetic. I've fished so little I don't know why I even own any gear, let alone the amount of stuff I have.
Next year will be better.
For my list
Rods: Falcon
Reels: Daiwa
Baits: Tubes (smallmouth), Crankbaits, topwaters
Techniques: Finesse and Deep Cranking
This was my first year really getting into fishing. Can't wait till next season, until then I'll settle with reading bassresource and watching tons of youtube videos! haha
i'm picking up a big bait setup in the off season also going to try to fish jerkbaits and cranks a lot more next year
Rods: Okuma guide select / Bass pro micro guide cranking stick
Reels: Curado 200I / 13 A
Baits: Spro 50 Rats / Spro BBZ-1 Jr. / Jackall gantarel

That LiveTarget Sunfish looks like a deadly lure,
Im going to try to gain confidence in as many baits as possible.
Stop trying to learn more and try to execute what I have learned and then progress to the next step.
One thing I have noticed in the 3 short years I have been bass fishing is the industry really targets the newest and best trends (shocking right)but what I have learned if you take the time and go back and read all the post that that these guy have put out there you need to learn the basics.
The fish, the fishes habits, how the conditions effects the fish in the area you fish.
Rod: KLX
Reels: More Lews
Baits: 2016 is the year of the Crankbait
This is also my first go with fluorocarbon
Should be an interesting season. I am committed to improving my crankbait production. Went out and bought a KLX on Black Friday and a 5.6:1 Lews LFS in hopes of more success.
Rod: Duckett Heavy
Reel: *** by ***
Baits : Big Swimbaits and frogs
ive been bass fishing for about 3 years now but last winter i got into tournament fishing. This past year i would go to a local pond or on the bank of the lake and just try new things. I would only take one rod with that specific thing. A jig or a shakey head or a crank bait etc.. Now swim baits have got my eyes. I fished frogs a few times this summer and have a little luck but im wanting to do it alot more.
*** reel
Got a new St Croix spinning rod 6'9" ML for Ned Rig and Drop Shoting, would like to work on both of these techniques next year.
I really want to start throwing big glide baits/swimbaits...along with everyone else lol I bought some good ones last year, but just didn't get a chance to use them as much as needed. I need a swimbait setup to start. I know there are not many, if any at all, throwing big swimbaits in WV. I'd like to get on it before they do!
Well, I've got a new 6:1 Metanium, a 301D Curado, and a new Stradic that all need broken in.
As far as baits, I'm going to get into trying some of the larger swim/glide baits. Much like Travis, they're not too popular here in PA, so hopefully it will give the fish a different look that they haven't seen in all of the heavily pressured water around here.
Aside from that, I really want to try fishing with jigs some more. They're one bait that I've never really used or cared for, as I'm more of a moving baits kinda guy, but I know they're great for catching numbers and big fish. So I suppose its time I get on board.
Next year I plan to focus on different techniques that I usually don't use often like drop shotting, and wacky rigs, these are good techniques to have up your sleeves when the bass want something much more finesse.
Rods: I'm getting into custom built rods. I'm wrapping guides on a 7'2" M RainShadow Immortal Spinning rod and a 7' MH MHX High modulus casting blank
Reels: I'm going to upgrade my Pflueger president to a Patriarch or Supreme. And Rig my new MHX with a Shimano Citica.
Line: I've been looking at using straight flouro on drop shot and finesse spinning. The P Line Halo is some sweet stuff.
Baits: We don't use 'Bama rigs and chatterbaits up here much. I'm gonna see if I can stir up the tournament scene with some
Next season is all about electronics for me.
Use more,,,,
Plastics
Try different swimbaits hard and soft.
Throw more topwater, different brands, colors, sizes.
Use spinnerbaits more.
Use jigs more.
Fish, fish more, fish everyday. Fish different places.
The Ned rig. I had a few tourney back boaters who caught fish on it, but didn't take the plunge. I grabbed everything during the black Friday sales.
I want to try not to fall out of the boat....2 years in a row I have fallen out at least once. Other than that, I want to try and not break anything.
Spend more time on finding the best spots on the bodies of water I fish to catch more big bass.
For me I want to get out on the lake more and keep up all the bank fishing on the river that I do.
As far as lake techniques I want to work with a rig I made up a couple of years ago some more that I haven't really tossed much. I got so into the swim jig thing this year that it ended up being all I tossed on the lakes. I did use the Ned rig with a lot of success on the river, I now want to take that to the lakes too.
On the river I dabbled with top waters this year and had some success. Next year I want to work some buzz baits, frogs, cigar baits, and poppers to learn what they are about and how and when to fish them successfully.
There's a lake I fish that has a decent population of really big bass. Last winter the goal I set was to catch one of those big ones this year. I fished a lot out there from March through November. I hooked two this summer that had to be over 7lbs, one on a buzzbait that spit the hook, and another on a spook that ran me around a tree and broke 15lb line, then proceeded to jump until she threw the bait.
It's not like they aren't in there, I usually see one every time I go.
I just want to catch one of the darn things.
frogs.
I'm happy with Falcon rods. But:
Reels: want to try Okuma, Plueger and Pinnacle
Lures/Presentations: Finesse fishing- drop shot, wacky worms. I've never been very efficient in these areas, so 2016 I will focus hard on this.
I've got to learn to flip and pitch. Last year I barely got to fish and next year I need to plan more before going. And jigs.
What Do You Want To Try Next Season
Twin Brazilian blonde beach volleyball players...
I would like to spend more time throwing chatterbaits . Also, fish more at night .
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and put in some work with some spy baits. They seem like they would be perfect for our deep, clear water reservoirs out here.

Haha, love it.
I cant wait for ice off.
rods: more Dobyns!! this year I got my first Dobyns (2 DX rods) and now I need MOOORREE
Techniques: Frogging, swing jig, and lipless cranking
This year I will hopefully get a chance to spend more time with these three techiniques. I don't necessarily care about catching a trophy this year, but my usual fishing partner has been starting to lean towards fishing swimbaits more often.

I have a couple sitting in my box. They never saw water all year... I should take the time to learn this but I don't get out much, and when I do I have a few other techniques im focusing on that I feel will definitely catch fish.
I definitely want to try more swimbaits. I've gotten a bunch over the past year or so and want to actually start fishing them more to be able to get confidence in them. I also want to try the new Legend Elite from St. Croix I've been looking at it and will probably be buying one soon so I'm definitely looking forward to that also.

Trust me, I have more baits than I would care to admit that have never seen the light of day or the water for that matter. Haha. I feel like these could be a real producer for me though.
Try to learn drop shooting...I spent most of the year power fishing....I need to develop my finesse fishing.
Rods: Shimano Stimula
Reels: Daiwa (forget model/name)
Bait: Twitchbaits, Rat-L-Trap, new crankbaits, new plastics
Techniques: Jig fishing, "dragging," and others

Trust me on this, less is more. For me its an exercize in patience. Once I meter some fish its a game of how long I can dead stick it before I move it. The exact opposite of power fishing! Haha.
Drop shots...
Every year, I always tell myself I'm gonna try this and I'm gonna try that, only to go back to what I've always used because its always worked. That said, I'm gonna try to drop shot some more and I'd like to try more swimbaits, again.
Top water frogs for sure. The first time I fished it I caught my personal best. It was the first and only fish I have caught on one. Watching the blowup was insane, and I can't wait until the weather is warm enough to fish them again.
I am going to try deep water vertical jigging. I have caught a couple fishing vertically by accident, but next year I am really going to give it a shot.
hoping to pick up some 10'' Hudds !!! might be awhile till their in stock ...

When you come up here we can drop shot all day.
I plan on trying to use a neko and drop shot more often, also some finesse cranks and swim jigs. I just hope to be able to make/find more time to hone the craft.
