Assuming you can only pack 5 baits in the early Spring, what are your go to lures (45-55 degree water temps say in March). Trailers don't count as a lure, but jig heads, trig, etc do count as one.
Here are my 5:
Suspending jerkbait
#5 shad rap in craw color
3/8 oz finesse jig with small craw trailer
1/2 oz Red Eye Shad
4" grub on swimming grub head 3/16 oz.
Had a hard time leaving out the spinnerbait, but it usually doesn't produce until the water hits the top end of the range for me.
suspending jerkbait
D&M Piranha in bluegill color with some kind of swimbait trailer
Xcalibur One Knocker lipless crankbait
Storm Arashi Flat 7 crankbait
finesse worm on a shakey head
Little John in Cell Mate
Fat Papa 55 in Nasty Herring
War Eagle Heavy Finesse Jig in Pond Scum w/ Zoom Super Chunk Jr in Watermelon seed
Zoom 4" Deadringer in Pumpkinseed on a 3/16 oz Texas Rig
Zoom Baby Brush Hog in Watermelon Seed on a Carolina Rig
Frog
KVD 1.5 crank bait
6" Senko on size 4 screw hook
Swim jig with rage craw trailer
Rebel pop'r
1/2 ounce jig
LC pointer 100
Rage Craws
GYCB Senko
# 5 is a toss up between a shad rap, lipless crank and squarebill, I can't decide.
That's for a pre spawn bite... It changes after that.
In response to you question, what I got is a headache.

It wasn't that hard for me. I try not answer these questions unless it is clear to me, because things do change and I do grow as a fisherman. But this one was easy, these are usually all I have tied on during this tim.e of year. There are others that ill try and I do catch fish on but I was going tmw, i would make sure I would have the listed baits tied on...history has shown I have done my best with those 4 or five baits during that time of year which is pre spawn here... Which has been known to give me fits.

Got to go with the squarebill! I swear by em very versitile... I was on the shad rap for a while this year but the squarebill took over when I found the ultimate color (my top producer)
KVD 1.5
Trick worm
3/8oz White Willow/Colorado Spinnerbait
3/8oz Black/Blue jig with a craw trailer
6" Lizard
Keitech swing impact in bluegill flash
Zoom super fluke in all white
1 spinner bait
7" power bait curly tail worm in green pumpkin
Rapala xrap in purple gold
It took me years to narrow down my lure arsenal to the 'Necessary Nine'.
Realistically, I could never cut it with just 5 lures:
Lipless Plug
> Jackall TN/70 (sexy shad)
Mat Punch
> Strike King Rage Craw (junebug)
> 1-1/4 oz Tungsten Bullet Sinker
> Gamakatsu 5/0 Superline EWG Hook
> Cobra Bobber Stop
Hard Jerkbait
> Rapala JH-12 Husky Jerk (silver)
Jig & Craw
> Strike King Rage Lobster (black blue-flake)
> All-Terrain 3/8oz Grassmaster Jig (black/blue)
Unwieghted Worm
> Yamamoto 6" Senko (green pumpkin black-flake)
> Gamakatsu 4/0 Skip-Gap Hook
Roger
I get a better way to carry more than five lures.
Keitech Ez Shiner bluegill flash
Roboworm bold bluegill on a mojo rig
Spinner bait
Flippin weight and chigger craw
Crankbait 1.5 KVD
OK here it goes:
1/2 Rat-L-Trap
1/4 Rat-L-Trap
3/8 jig and craw
Super Fluke
Mann's 1 minus.
This list is subject to change at a moments notice.
1. KVD 1.5 in sexy shad color
2. Red eye shad in sexy shad color
3. Bitsy minnow in Tennesee shad color
4. Strike King Tri-Wing buzzbait in white 3/8 oz
5. Cotton Cordell Lipless Crankbait in Bass color, 1/2 oz
Jerkbait
weightless fluke
spinnerbait
lipless crank
grub on a jig head
Plastics
Jigs
Spinner baits
Cranks
Top water
Hot pink Backwards Buzz
High Roller Rip Roller in Alabaster Slammer
Jerky J's Joint Jigger
1/8 Ounce Hotflash Spinnerbait with a #12 Black Nickle Supermag Indiana Blade
16" Hooktail worm in Bubblegum over red with Chart flake.
Serious response-
I can't do it. It's entirely too limited. There's no possible way I'm going to limit myself to just five lures to use.
Five Categories, maybe-
jerkbait
Jig
Big Spinnerbait
Squarebill
Plastics- Senko, Finesse Worm, Ringers, the like.

2. Missile Baits Fuse 4.4 on a Shaky head
3. 1/2oz Siebert Outdoors Big O Jig
4. KVD Silent Square Bill
5. SPRO Little John crankbait

3. 7" Culprit curly tail worm in Green Pumpkin color
4. Rapala DT-6 in Bluegill color
5. Matzuo Phantom Minnow in shiny blue color
I like to use something different everyday. I don't necessarily take what I think will be the best bait of the day, I may read something on BR and decide to use that. If people are taking about spoons I'll say to myself " haven't used that in a while, let's give it shot". Could be senkos, or jigs, top water or whatever and I stick with it. I could use a senko everyday and catch fish, gotta have variety to keep it interesting.
Spro Aruku Shad - Perch
GYCB 4" Senko - Green Pumpkin

I love these threads, always gives me some ideas on new stuff I need to buy! My 5 would be:

Berkley 3" Power Minnow in Smelt

3- Rapala FLoating balsa original minnow

,
I would lIke a Spook, Rogue, Buzz Bait, Reaction Strike lipless crank 65, and chug bug...and a 1/2 Johnson Silver Minnow with a 3-4" White Grub....I could deal with just that....
One bait....I will take 4" Kalins Lunker Grub with a 1/4 oz. Ball Jighead...Smoke Grub, White jig head....and sneak a Weedless Spoon in my pocket in case too many weeds
I usually on roll with three to keep it simple, but in the spirit of the thread I'll make an exception

I'll throw in a sixth that is interchangeable with the topwater depending on conditions that day, and that is a drop shot with a PowerTeam Lures JP Hammershad or 5" Finicky Tickler.
1. Koppers LiveTarget Frog
2. SK RES 1/2 oz Sexy Shad
3. Siebert 3/8 oz Brush Dredge with Rage Craw
4. SK Caffeine Shad KVD Magic or Smoke Shad

Just a rudimentary list, but my starting lineup looks something like this:
1. Suspending jerkbait, either a Lucky Craft Live Pointer 95MR or Pointer 100SP
2. Bluegill flavored swim jig
3. Squarebill Crank, probably a LC RC1.5
4. Lipless Crank, either a Rapala Rippin' Rap or Sebile Flat Shad

Basseditor, you need to try some plastics next time.
My old bass club used to have a 2 lure tournament every year. You could have two lures.
Example you choose a Texas rig you get one hook one weight one pack of soft plastics
Then you've still got one more bait.
I'd usually take a pack of ultravibe speed craws 1/2 ounce tungsten weight and a flipping hook on 65lb braid. I could swim the ultravibe on top like a frog early then flip with it later on
And a Davis swim jig with a pack of white ultravibes.
Suspending jerkbait-Xrap for me in clown
Yum money minnow
Jig
Zoom super fluke
square bill crank or DT6 in whatever color best matches to local forage
Keep in mind I mainly fish from shore.
1. BPS topnocker #25 color chartreuse.
"THE HOTTEST" topwater spook/walk your puppy lure ever designed. This lure should of came with a instruction video. This lure could make any non fisherman look like a pro. But the down all is that BPS discontinued the hottest topwater lure there ever was and will be.
2. Mann's Orginal Hank Parker Classic 1/4oz gold blades, blue glimmer skirt spinnerbaits with a mister twister white 4" split double tail grub used as a trailer w/Trailer hook. For clear, to slightly stained water. For stained to muddy water conditions or overcast days its the chartruese one with the mt chartreuse trailer.
3. Bomber FAT. A / model A size 05 in redapplecraw. The fat A has been discontinued but we can still find them. Any bomber in redapplecraw that runs shallow and floats can be used topwater or reeled slowly at any speed to run at any depth. I use all the colors that bomber offers in there cranks. But if I had to pick just one the redapplecraw da one.
4. Joesfly 1/4oz bass size in firetiger apache. Just a shot of yum shad. In low light, dusk, stained water conditions this one is one hot spin fly, inline spinner. The Joe's fly 1/4oz bass size in blackgnat works great in the light conditions. But as it gets darker switch to the firetiger apache or glo tiger for continued success.
5. Mister Twister TOP PROP in firecraw. This topwater propensity is something to scream off the roof about. It has many presentations. If we pause it, she almost stands straight up while the MT 4" split double tail trailer swims its heart out to the beat of the current. The strikes can happen at anytime. In the morning or evening in the low light conditions seems the best for me from shore.
I have so many more to list but the rules say "5" only.
Play with different color combinations for different lighting conditions. Do we need all these different colors? You bet we do.(fisherman quote) how true.
Fishing to me is a challenge, it's a test of our skills. The more we know, the more we stay focused and motivated the more we apply our bass fishing knowledge the more success we we will have as bass fisherman. The same things apply to life too. Set your goals, stay focused and motivated towards our goals in life. You will have nothing but success. Success in life and bass fishing we have to work for it nothing, nothing is free or a given in life. God bless, bigbill

In the spring, our water is like creamed coffee. It's really hard to balance a wobble with a feel. The pauses are so boring, but necessary. I wouldn't know what to do with clear water. Post-spawn is considerably easier when our waters clear up to just muddy or stained/muddy on the deeper lakes.

Ok I thought about it some more and I think I might be able to get by with the following in the context of ,my usual type of fishing holes.
3 light finesse:
4" methiolate slug-gos
4.5" sassy shad lunker+hunt (lol at the *** as if it was a swear word) bento minnows
7" MDRF roboworm straight tails
(all can be used topwater as T-rigged jerkbaits or as drop shot rigs)
2 heavy cover topwaters:
Spro bronzeye popper freak
Bettencourt slop rodent
(I can't live without heavy cover topwater poppers)
Put me someplace else and I might have to mix in some deeper cranks and jigs though. Mostly though I'm looking for smaller ponds and lakes that have a prohibitive amount of lily, laydown or weed cover on them though so I find these two approaches work very well together.
Hand tied 3/8 oz jig w rage craw, in green or orangeish.
1/2oz red eye shad in a red or a blue chrome.
3/16 oz shaky head with pumpkin seed trick worm.
Spro frog, color depends on time and lake.
