It's almost that time, folks! I've started threads like this for a few years now. This year, instead of posting things that we know are coming, I'm adding a "wish list" section. So, if you hear about a bait, reel, rod, whatever, post it. But also post the things you're crossing your fingers to see. I'll go first with my wish list:
-Strike King Popping KVD Frog
-Detailed craw patterns on Strike King square bills
-Solid nose of the Shadelicious
-Hi-Seas 40lb braid
-Ardent Gliss in 50-80lb test
- I want someone to come up with a swimbait hook that doesn't year the nose out like screw locks do
-Lightweight Duckett spinning reels, 2000 size = <6.5oz
-Price Reduction on Duckett baitcasting reels (320=$150 and 360=$200)
-6'10" Medium Duckett White Ice with a 12-13" handle
A man can dream!
Butch brown deps thumper swimbait!!!!!!! Been watching him with this bait and can't wait
cool innovation at an affordable price.... i know crazy right, but like you said, a man can dream!
Im a big fan of the shadilicious, cant wait for that one

I would like to see more brands at lower prices. Yum always has some cool stuff at a good price point. Berkley has thrown out some innovative styles in the havoc line at a great price, and I would guess the pit boss is one of their more popular baits.
Hope other companies follow their lead.
Would be awesome if Zman came out with a skinny Zinkerz. I have been doing really well with a skinny stick bait this year and would like a Zman version for a tail up presentation that the Zinkerz is famous for.
The Savage Gear rat is supposed to come out at Icast, pretty stoked to see all the sizes/colors

Going to come in 2 sizes, 7 and 11 inches I believe and 4 colors; white, brown, black, and grey.
I wonder whether St Croix will be releasing a new avid/avid x range as they've now put their SC111 graphite in their cheaper rod ranges and it's harder to differentiate between their lower cost rod ranges.
The only hook that doesn't tear the nose of a soft plastic is the spring lock versions. The stick with a bunch of arrows on it is horrible and falls out. Keitech will last 4 times longer with a spring lock.
I'm looking forward to the savage gear rat and duck. Also want to try the new SK rage swimmers although siebert already has them availible. I want to see more frogs with rabbit fur or feathers instead of the same old rubber strands. Also looking for a small ribbit version frog from Zman. I have their popfrogz and don't like the action. A sliding keel weight with a spring lock, I know one company does it but I want more to so you can alter nose dive to horizontal fall on the fly.
Half the stuff in my tackle boxes are perch colored but soft plastics never have this color. Always looking for variations of yellow, black, orange, green swirl.
I want to add to my wish list: a Jr sized Zoom Horny Toad: 3.5-3.75"

Try a finesse wormz. I have done pretty well with it on both a Ned rig and a shaky head.

One of the guys I follow on Youtube has a solution for this already.
A few more options are the finesse wormZ, FattyZ, or a Hula Stick. All are thinner than a Zinker and offer different, unique actions.

Great idea! I am definitely going to try that modification next time i'm out.

pretty likely i'll pick a couple up

I have done that, but the shape isn't super consistent and it has one flat side. Currently I use an Anglers Choice Wart hawg as an alternative.
Something that would be nice to see is a whopper plopper between the 90 which seems to small and the 130 that seems to big for WI bass. We need that just right size, maybe a 110.
I know Terminator has a popping frog coming out as well.
- I'm wondering if more companies will introduce plastics that are cut/sized for the Ned Rig. That rig seems to be getting popular and it seems like it would be a simple design to add if they already make a stickbait.
- I think more rat-style topwater baits will be coming soon in the sub-$40 range. Spro's Rat has sold like wildfire, the new Savage Gear rat looks amazing and will be cheap at only $20/$25, and Ima's Disrat ($35) is priced low too. I'd be shocked if companies like Strike King and River2Sea didn't have some sort of rat bait being developed.
- Still waiting for Shimano to announce a change on the warranties on their rods back to lifetime. I wonder how much of a hit they've taken on rod sales since they made the warranty change. The local tackle shop here pretty much stopped stocking their rods and replaced them with other brands, and on this forum and other forums Shimano very rarely comes up when people are looking for a new rod, either as a brand they're considering, or a brand someone will recommend when replying to a thread.

I doubt it. In today's age of scammers and spammers, blogging and frogging... Lifetime warranty is like $1/gal gas- It was cool but it isn't coming back. Loomis isn't bringing back the wildcard either.
Their lifetime warranty was ripe for abuse. A new rod coming out? Cool I'll break my old one.

Maybe that's a little extreme, but lifetime just doesnt make good business sense for fragile goods like fishing poles unless there are major disclaimers involved and then why even bother? Factory defects break right away anyways. I think a flat replacement fee is more the norm now and for good reason. Heck, the last time I broke a rod, 13 let me pay the replacement fee and then flat out pick any rod from that line. That's smart!
The lifetime OTC free warranty was a bit absurd, I'm hoping for something more along the lines of what Phenix or St. Croix does where you pay a replacement fee that's lower than a completely new rod.
Shimano's new warranty isn't terrible. You can pay a replacement fee of 50% off retail for a new rod. Fast and free shipping too. When you look at every other replacement plan, they all seem to run around $50 to $60 for the fee plus $15-$20 return shipping. Not much of a difference.

Interesting, I didn't know this. I thought after the 1-year period, if you broke your rod you were screwed and had to buy a new rod. If I'm reading this right, this program lets you replace a qualifying rod for 50% off MSRP anytime after the 1-year period even if it's your own fault? This isn't the best replacement program out there but isn't horrible either.

it's not advertised at all, i believe if you call them and ask they'll honor that. but still not all that great considering their other company, loomis, you can replace the top of the line NRX for $100 no questions asked.
If you broke your rod after a year, it can't possibly be the manufacturer's responsibility. Why on earth would you expect anything other than having to buy a new rod? Seems completely bizarre to me. The cost to the manufacturer of subsidising new rods for people who broke them inevitably puts the price of rods up for everyone. The world has gone mad.

For me it's because I buy rods/backup rods/backup to backup rods when they're on sale and don't necessarily fish them all that much within the first year, if at all. I know that's more my fault being a gear hoarder but still.
If you can afford to bulk buy rods to have in case you break them you really don't need to be jacking up the prices of rods by sending them in whenever you break them.
Very excited about the big three(four) coming from Savage Gear, and also the Optimum thumper tail.

It certainly isn't their responsibility to replace your rod for free if you break it accidentally, but is it so wrong for them to offer a replacement for your $200+ rod at a discounted rate? I think it actually helps these companies maintain a loyal customer base. I only fish brands that have flat fee replacements for broken rods. Can't afford not to with how much I fish and how much money I put back into the sport.

I know that St Croix will work with you from personal experience. Broke a Premier rod that just shattered in year 6 of a 5 year warranty. When I called I explained that it cracked during a cast and I had no idea why? They could of just said I was SOL but they wanted to examine the rod to see what happened so they ask me to send it back. I paid $90 for that rod and it cost like $15 to ship it to them and they sent me a $50 certificate for a new rod which was great on their part.
To many people were abusing the system which is what changed the warranty system. If you do not break a rod in the first couple of trips than it is your fault not the rod manufacturer.
Like others have mentioned I would like to see some smaller frogs that could be used for SM. I picked up a couple smaller live target ones that I hope will work on the river around here.

I hope savage gear releases a 5" version of the line thru trout, it would be awesome for bass feeding on shad. I have the six inch and like it, but would love it if it was a little smaller so that it catches more of those important fifteen inch bass in tournament's but still gets kickers. I wouldn't mind trying the savage gear rat to, all of there other gear is awesome so I have high hopes.
A 12-foot version of the Wilderness Systems ATAK kayak (I heard a "rumor" that they might be showing one at iCast)

Truth is, if a Rod blank breaks after the first couple times it's fully loaded the user is at fault. Either handling or user error cause the vast majority of failures. Workmanship like grips, reel seats and maybe wraps should be covered long term.

He calls it a regular Pure Poison but it doesn't look like anything they offer right now. Green pumpkin with green pumpkin blade and looks like a beefier hook.

I have tried cutting them this way, a few different types of scissors, razor blades, and a sharp serrated knife, none of them work well and I feel like I am constantly in danger of cutting myself the way those things squirm.

Oh man, i think you're right!!!! They don't offer that color pure poision either. That's definitely a beefier hook. It doesn't have eyes anymore. Also, interesting fact, the Pure Poision isn't on Strike King's website. Maybe it's just a reboot. Either way, I dig it!
What would be pretty cool is a storage box that would allow you to vary both the length and split a compartment width wise too into 2 or 3 slots. I could see this being handy for swimbaits or other baits where it is important to keep the tails straight.
Personally I would do one up for Zman Ned rigged baits too.
They also could just do a box with narrower slots too instead of making them adjustable.

Kitchen shears work best. The ones I use are $.88 at Wal-Mart.
Billed 3 piece Imakatsu Bassroid below. Although I'm not sure its confirmed to come out at/after ICast.

I have tried both klein tool scissors and my GF's hair scissors ( ) and I can't get a straight cut with either. It sounds like longer ones will work better, thanks.
My Ned-related wish would be for a small jig like this:
But with a hook strong enough for bass, and a tiny keeper on the shank.
None of the jigs I have tried to use for a weed/snagless Ned are idea, something like this would be perfect if it had a wire keeper and a flat head to glue too.
A mushroom head mold from do-it with a wire keeper, 2 each in the sizes 1/32, 1/16, and 3/32 for Ned rigs. Much easier (and it would be nice to be able to use other sizes besides 1/16) than pouring one head at a time and having to make my own wire keepers that don't last very long.

Pouring your own works great if you use a lot of them. I pour my own with a Do-It worm nose (mushroom) head with a single wire weedguard. Had to do a slight modification to the mold for the weedguard, but that was easy.
Don't know if it was mentioned already but Fred roumbanis is releasing the Boom Boom Swimbait, looks like a pretty dope swimmer.

I think we're gonna see a new GLX from Loomis. And can only hope for a new NRX version with a new handle, Torzite tangle free guides and a different color guide wrap.
All i want is a shimano zodias in a heavy spinning model?
One thing that would be great is that the main line companies seriously take a look at cheap alternatives to lead. Tungsten while it works for many serious fisherman, the cost does not make it a direct replacement. What is needed is some options from just plain old split shot, drop shot weights, worm weights, small walleye and crappie jigs all the way up to bass jigs. I think if these companies jump in, a lot more people will use the alternatives and many companies will follow their lead.
I see a lot of kids that still try to get out and fish a lot, many don't have a lot of money or gear and come from single families. That is the future of our sport and we need to keep the sport cheap enough to allow them to get hooked and continue fishing for the rest of their lives.
The new GLX at a cheaper price.
Rat'L'Trap is releasing a new topwater bait called the Stutter Step (I believe I have that correctly). It can be used as a topwater or a wakebait, and can do a complete 180 turn in the water.
From KVD's blog on Bassmaster.com:
A hollow body frog type lure.
Strike King is coming out with a new one at ICAST that we call a “Poppin’ Perch.” It will be excellent for matted vegetation and skipping under docks and trees. It’s got a cupped mouth with phenomenal action that I know is going to be deadly in some situations. You should see it later this fall.
Here's a picture of a prototype of the poppin perch: http://www.flwfishing.com/news/2015-04-20-top-10-baits-from-grand-lake
A foldable kayak that can fit into a backpack for all us bank fishermen. Pretty sure there's a big market for that.
It'd be great if Zman made a swimbait similar to the Keitech Swing Impacts.
