I haven't been throwing crankbaits much in all the time I've been fishing, but a Rapala DT6 or DT10 has been getting a few fish for me lately. I'm about to upsize things and start throwing a DT16. I also have had some success with the smaller Excalibur/ Bomber Fat Free Shad crankbaits. I have probably 40 different cranks of all makes, sizes and depths, and the Rapala DT's and Fat Free Shad are what I reach for the most.
Rapala DT-6 in bluegill
I guess it's hard for me to choose a favorite, they're all different and based on the particular pattern I'd have a favorite bait for the pattern. I fish a lot of the LIttle John Series, a lot of Lucky Craft Fat CB series (particularly the D20), and a lot of the Strike King XD series. It all depends on the conditions and the fish.

I like the ones this guy likes...
Not really a crankbait but my PB was on a Rapala Husky Jerk (don't know the size off the top of my head). I just slowly reel them in with a few short pauses.
DT-16 cause a caught a pb on one
Mine as of this past weekend is the Storm Arashi square bill in the black silver shad color. Caught a 4lb bass on my 5th cast.
There are way too many choices out there for me to pick one as a favorite. I fish crankbaits a lot and have in my tackle box right now Norman, Bomber, Rapala, Strike King, Bandit, Rebel, Xcalibur, H2O Express and a few others. All have their place and time.

I've never seen that.

Didn't know they made it in that size.
Love the RC series and bought them at my local BPS, but maybe they didn't stock that size?
The 3.5 sold out awfully quickly in the squarebill. The DD series and XD not so much. I don't think, however, many are stocking the RTO or LC 3.5.On 2/16/2014 at 9:59 AM, bassh8er said:Didn't know they made it in that size.

I'm a huge crankbait nerd. I can't even begin to pick a top 5 let alone a single bait, but if I had to pick only one, It would have to be the Rapala DT-6.
I catch way too many fish on that bait, including 'eyes and pike to not have it be my favorite crank. I am partial to Demon Craw but I like all colors.
All water temps and colors, DT-6 all day long.
Easy question - difficult answer as illustrated by the responses.
My favorite "any type of bait" depends on too many factors.
Some of these factors include time of year, water clarity, water temperature, fishing a lake or river, current, smallmouth or largemouth bass, going deep or staying shallow, line test, line type and on and on and on.
So to tell you that I love the KVD 1.5 square bill would be correct. But I am not telling you when I would throw it or how which is the secret to success with any presentation.
This time of year a tight wobble bait, like a Shad Rap or a lipless crankbait is a good choice along with a jerkbait. But I can't tell you the color or size until I study the weather, water temperature, water clarity, cold fronts, structure, cover, etc. on the body of water I will be fishing.
And there is no guarantee that these tight wobble baits will work so I will have to have a back up plan and take those back up baits with me.
Don't those little green monsters make your life difficult???

How much do you belive in the "cold water, tight wobble" theory?
I ask this because I pay no attention to the tightness or wideness of wobble when selecting a crank. My criteria for a cold water crank is always, a good wobble, but with the ability in cold water to slow roll the bait and have a great action at low speeds combined with, if applicable, a low buoyancy to keep the bait down. Honestly, at any water temp, a good action is a good action is a good action with tightness or wideness be damned.
A ultra thin billed. low buoyancy crank with a good action is always a #1 pick in cold water. Keep in mind, my bass have no idea what a shad is.
While I'm not in love with the action (wobble) of the Storm Arashi, that super thin bill and "reasonable" buoyancy make it a bait I intend to throw once the water temp reach the 40s.
Historically, my go to baits in low vis cold shallow water, have been the Bagleys Balsa B#2, recently replaced by the Excal XCS 200. I hope the Storm Arashi Square Bill can replace the Excal baits.
Gotta go with a Rapala DT-6, Helsinki Shad.
LC 1.5 or Megabass Knuckle and even the jackall aska.
Strike King squarebill 1.5s for numbers of bass, 2.5s for big bass
Live target crawfish squarebill.
