I know everyone has their favorite brands of soft plastics and some are cheaper than
Rage Tail Baits. So what's the big deal? Try them for yourself and see. Let's start with
just one bag of Rage Tail Craws in any color you like. Rig them as a jig trailer or "naked"
on a 1/4 ounce 4/0 weighted hook or simply T-rigged.
I look forward to the response, especially from those that have never tried the Craw!
My local tackle shop just got them. I will pick up a couple of bags although I mostly make my own plastics. I have read enough positive reviews on BR to make me interested and find it hard to resist a challenge. I plan to fish Saturday at the latest.

Done.
Now what?

Start pitching it to your swimbaits
I have tried several styles with absolutely no results. On the craw I have actually gotten a few short hits. But the paca craws are less expensive and I have had more luck with them. I just haven't had the results that a lot of you get with the Rage line.
A bigger challenge for me, would be trying to get me to take my Rage Tails OFF my hook!

Haha, that's funny. Actually that's sorta what I'm doing. It's bitterly cold outside, and I'm back home early, and practising pitching with a spinning rod inside my apartment lol.
I've snagged a few on the Craw:
If the water near me wasnt about to ice over maybe I could throw a t-rigged rage craw and zoom speedcraw and tell you the results but it looks like I'll have to get back to you in the Spring!
I looks like it might be a little bit for me. Just got a lot colder than I prefer here.
Rage craws are one of the best baits I've ever fished for flipping weeds. They get through the weeds well and then those claws start flapping and it just drives them crazy it seems like.

x2 that! Atleast 2-3 rods have Rage Craw t-rigged or on a jig.
I am a Strike King homer....but I have pretty much ignored the Rage line. Next year will be there turn. I am going to go Rage craws insted of Paca's, and Rage Toads insted of Zoom Horny toads. We'll see what happens.
Hey RW, is it OK if we use'em Rage Rigged too... Kinda like this!

the rage craws are all i use to tip my jigs. nothing else works like a rage craw for me.
I've given rage craws numerous chances t-rigged and as a jig trailer, and have never had much success. My partner i bass fish with SWEARS by them, yet has never outfished me with them, i'm assuming this is the year he finally gives in...

Big-O, are you bouncing this rig off the bottom or how are you fishing it?
Roadwarrior, lets wait for the grass to start to grow on the Potomac to start any rage Tail Challenge.
Also, looking forward to throwing the baby Rage Tails.
Happy New Year!!!!

Just like a slow T rig in shallow conditions, 8ft or less. A slow, short lift/fall/pause or drag/settle technique is very productive. When fishing rocks or grass, keep the rod tip up slightly and the bait will be extremely snag proof. The advantage of this rig is a more horizontal fall than using a bullet weight on the line ahead of the hook and the lighter the hook weight, the slower the fall. Swimminig it slowly works as well when the fish are looking for a moving target. Hope that helps

i was super impressed by the rage tail line of products from the first time i used them. it all started with the baby rage craw, t-rigged weightless on a 1/0 EWG Gamakatsu. this one pond i fished was giving me trouble catching them on soft plastics, they just wouldnt bite anything soft plastic...till i introduced them to the BRC and they absolutely tore it up. i would toss it out then reel it in like a topwater and then just kill it, it falls real slow and thats when the bass would hit it, thats if they didnt already hit it when i was fishing it like a topwater. the rage craws are very versatile baits and can be fished a variety of ways.
i also love the lizards and the toads.
I haven't caught anything on the rage craw yet. Tried florida rig, small finesse jigs,T-rig weightless and weighted.
I dunno why,I do well on paca craws and other trailer craws.
I've given a them a chance several times and have never gotten them to work. I have no doubt they catch fish they just don't seem to work for me.
I haven't used all of the Rage Tail baits but the craw is a must have for me, whether t-rigging or trailing it on a jig. Different strokes for different folks.
Its all about what you have confidence in.. For me thats zoom super speed craws, super hogs, and brush hogs. The new Z Hog is an awesome little punching bait also.
No doubt the rage line catches fish but I beleive its alot of hype driven by marketing which hey its good buisness I just cant bite on it when I have success and confidence in a bait that cost 2 bucks a bag less.
I do love the coffee smell though I can't lie about that..
No disrespect here intended. Big O seems like a really cool dude who works hard and plays hard.
Kind of like the RES..You think if KVD was using an XR50 he would have any less success? Dont think so, he may not even need to change the hooks.
With all that said I almost bit on a bag of Watermelon Meat rage craws just b/c that color was intruiging but could not do it.
ive caught one on a watermelon red rage craw and a few good ones using rage chunks as swim jig trailers this past summer

Perfect...
Spend two bucks and see what you think, there's really no down side.
I have a question about baits in general.
You say Rage, She says Zoom, He says Berkley, Out of all of the manufactures these days how is it determined who is the best of the best?
What testing is done to prove the bait is what it says it is?
You want us to take a challenge?
OK I will give you a scenario, I am fishing on a lake this weekend that has a nuke plant, filling in for a guy's partner that can not make it, from what I have learned the water is usually dark color, greenish/brown, fishing depth's will be 8 to 25 feet, water temp avg. 64 degrees, I will be fishing the side of the lake I have never fished before and if I use rage I will be fishing with a bait I have never used before, I am expected to perform well, is that not enough pressure for you? lol.
I know what I use works, now what are you going to tell me differently that will convince me to use your baits and how?

Since you showing that rigging off at last year's road trip, I've found this to be my favorite way to fish a Rage Craw. I'll still use it for shallower water next year but I'm thinking of trying them deeper on a Jika Rig.
Has anyone tried them on one of these rigs? Results?

The user has to determine what works best for them. it will be different from person to person.
What testing is done to prove the bait is what it says it is?
Again its up to the user to decide whats best for them. All the maufacturer does is state the mechanical aspects of a certain product. Rage craws give off a great deal of vibration.. Its works great for some applications but Its not always what is needed to get bit. But you the user must decide if its right for you.
You want us to take a challenge
Yes he does

I would suggest using your confidence bait in this secenario since you are obligated to perform and then on a recreational outing give the rage craws a try. You would be able to decide wheter you like em or not. If you don't like them then you're out $5 no big deal. If you do then you have a new weapon in your aresenal.
I know what I use works, now what are you going to tell me differently that will convince me to use your baits and how?
You will never know unless you try.

Well, they are not "my baits", just baits I use.
I'll be specific: The Rage Tail Craw has a subtle quiver even when it seems to be stilll.
The "action" makes the bait appear to be alive when you are not working the Craw.
Although there are many ways to rig the plastic, I suggest simply substituting the
Rage Craw for whatever jig trailer you are currently using. See if it makes a difference
for you, it has for me.

Give those craws a nice effort and let us know how they work for you. I agree there is a lot of hype for Rage Tail baits, and in quite a few cases there is good reason. I'm not saying you think this, but I hope that the assumption isn't that most people who use them and like them do so because of the hype. Being one who is put off by joining the bandwagon just to be on it, I waited quite some time before I ever tried them. I was very pleasantly surprised when I did. It is normal that different people will find different baits that work best for them based on confidence, the subtle differences in how each of us moves a particular bait, one's zodiac sign, etc. Occasionally a bait comes along that seems to work for most people. Maybe we should see some more challenges on here to use other baits that anglers feel are the cat's meow. I won't be offended. If someone challenges me to use a bait and I discover that it helps me catch more and bigger fish, it will be worth it.
I've fished most of the Rage Tail line and have been thoroughly impressed. The only problem I seem to have is when to put on one type of trailer over the other. For instance when would using a rage chunk be better than a rage craw or lobster and vice versa?
Ninja, Roadwarrior,
There is no doubt that Strike King makes some of the best stuff on the market, and some of their jigs and skirt colors are second to none, shucks I still have jigs of theirs that are over 3 years old and the hook is still as sharp now as it was when it was new.
Ninja,
You have made the most sence with your answer " It's up to the user to decide what is best for them ".
Roadwarrior,
You have got to be one of the best advice producers on this site and I have learned a lot listening to you and then taking your advice to the water and becoming a more successful angler.
I know these are not "your baits", but you are asking everyone to go out and buy this product and compare it to what they already own.
As you have stated "Let's start with just one bag of rage tail craws of any color you like" to me this is like saying this product is SO GREAT that it does not matter what color you choose, at any given time it's going to catch fish!!!
Somehow I do not think this is the point that you are trying to make but for me this is the way it seems to be comming across and possibly to others as well.
I think the space monkey rules the roost here! T-riggged flippin draggin buzzin. Those little arms make the difference.just a little bit bigger profile for those bigger fish. Monkies blow the doors off craws around here. problem is I think I bought them all out here and now Im out. Have to buy some bulk lots
Haven't tried the craws, yet. I haven't caught anything on the Rage Hawg. The Annoconda only catches walleye so it is not a bass bait. I am in need of trailers and will pick up a pack or two just to appease RW
Have not had no where near as good of luck with the Rage Craw as I do the Netbait Paca Craw, but the Space Monkey and the 10" Anaconda rock. Just wish the Anaconda held up better, I go threw them like crazy around here. The action and that Plum color is, as KVD would say, Money In The Bank Baby!
Just ordered up some more Rage Craws the other day though, for i am not giving up on them yet and also ordered some of the Rage Toads to try out this up coming season.

The RageChunk is most commonly used for short profile jig set up's. The Craw provides you with an opportunity to fish it as is or use it when you're needing a longer jig trailer profile and/or pinch it to desired length. The Lobster is a bigger profile than the Craw giving even more bulk and or length. The Baby Rage Craw is the smallest of them and very well suited for finesse techniques, smaller jigs etc. As for the comments and questions on the difference in Rage Tail Baits and others... The Rage Shad and Rage Toad represent the loudest and most aggressive soft plastic top water baits that have ever been designed. The Craw family of Rage Tails represent the most action at the slowest fall rates or with least amount of retrieve speeds or rod tip movement on the market, regardless of water temps. The Eeliminator is the first bait of it's kind as well, with a seductive side to side motion and can be fished as a top water presentation or C rig. The Anaconda is also very different than any other Big Worm as it also has tremendous action at minimum retrieve or rod tip movement. The list goes on like the Space Monkey and the Smokin Rooster that were primarily designed for Super Action as flipping and pitching baits bet they too are versatile for a variety of presentations...
All this to say, I didn't design Rage Tail products to be like others... I designed them to be the best that they could be in their specific use areas. Also I apologize that these products are a bit higher than some others on the market... Patenting designs, providing intense quality and packaging, demanding correctness and that they are American made etc., is definitely not the cheapest way to take products to market. Many others copy innovative ideas as close as they can, produce overseas or at the cheapest manufacturer, then throw it in a bag for a lesser price. I can't nor will I do that... I'd rather do things better, to make sure that when you spend your money on my baits, they are as close to perfect as they can be and you know that you've received the very BEST product and my very best effort.
BTW, I didn't design these baits to sell, I designed them to catch more and bigger fish... for myself, my clients and my friends. When the Strike King folks met me, they promised to allow me to produce the products with the highest level of quality demands that I feel are necessary... SO WE DO

Great post, Steve. For those of you who haven't tried them, give a pack a shot. You may be surprised. I use them not only because they catch fish, but because the designer is a guy who stands behind his product. I can't remember a time when I've sent him a message and he hasn't gotten back to me about something. Whether its related to his lures or fishing in general. Hard to ask for more than that.
I caught one today on a jig and Rage Craw!! They are my favorite craw baits, I don't even carry any others in my box now. The rig Big O showed with the weighted hook has proven excellent for me. I don't even bother using a normal t-rig anymore when I am flippin. I actually rig all my flippin baits like this now, including worms and Grande Bass Rattlesnakes. I only use the craws and I pinch off the first segment when used on a jig. Like SoFlaBassAddict says, the designer stands behind his stuff, I had the opportuniy to meet Big O last summer and he is a heck of a guy, I hope someday we can meet again on the lake!!
Love my rage craws and chunks but my favorite of the rage tail lineup are the space monkeys they did most of the work for me this year this spring and into summer. Also you cant forget the rage toad its about the best toad on the market hands down.
One of the things that I love about the Rage Tails is that they are so versatile. I wouldn't mind taking a few out one day and trying them each of the different recommended ways that are on the instructions that are sent with them.
The DSG here has a 20% off sale going on, so I picked up two packs of Rage Craws. Might as well give it a shot.

i'm assuming it's a twin tail? i was looking at sk's online catalog this morning and realized they probably have the most extensive line-up of any bait company. you could fill up your boat with products just from strike king and have everything you need.
the only things i seen sk doesn't have is a 4" twin tail grub and a walking bait. i would imagine there will be a new kvd walker available in the next year or so!

I took this challenge this past weekend, I fished my confidence bait first untill we had 5 on the boat which equated to roughly 15 lbs.
I had 3 to my partners 2, then decided to give this a try, my wepon of choice...the lobster as a trailer.
Having never used this bait before It took about 25 times in the water for me to figure out how to present this to them, after 20 times without getting a single hit I thought that my friends were right, this bait just does not work, and I almost put it away before the next cast.
There was a small frustration factor that came into play on the next cast, my line had a small knot in the reel from me not paying attention, so the bait sat a little longer than I had let it sit before, I cleared the tangle, took out the slack and positioned my rod and gave 2 small quick jerks on the bait and I felt a THUMP.
I missed that fish for reasons that are me being me, but we picked up and moved to another spot with a fair amount of boat slips, the very first pitch I repeted what I learned from the last one, THUMP, as my rod loaded up after setting the hook, the drag started to give way, the first fish over 5 lbs for the day, 6lbs 4oz.
I caught 7 more fish that day using your bait, my partner caught 5 more than me on the days total, none of his fish were used at the end of the day.
My very first time using your baits gave me my PB total on a lake I have never fished, with a partner I have never fished with and also gave me the opportunity to finally place in a fishing tournament.
My sincerest apologies to anyone I may have offended.
I am looking forward to the spring and summer months this year on my home lake with a new way to fish and a new bait to fish it with, I wish I had a video camera along for the ride this time out but something tells me there will be plenty of photos this comming spring.
Thank you for making these products here on our home turf and your hard work and dedication is second to none.

Congrats to you! When I first started fishing my husband always used to to tell me if you think your fishing slow enough fish slower. That single tip has been the secret to my success quite a few times too.
I'd LOVE to try the Rage Tail craws, but the only place locally that sells tackle (WalMart) doesn't carry them. The nearest Dick's is a 2hr. drive and BPS or Cabela's is 3-1/2 hrs. away.
I guess the next time that I order from BPS or Cabela's, I'll pick up a few packages.
I've been using Yum Crawbugs and they work very well, but they don't work very well as jig trailers. For that, I use Yum Super Chunks and Super Chunk Jr.

I wonder if this is what RW had in mind for this challenge. Congrats Nitrofreak! You hung in there, took the challenge and won imo.
"The Challenge" was simply to try the Rage Tail Baits .
Yes, I think it worked for Nitrofreak, but I think EVERY member of this forum should give them a try.
Some will not be impressed, but most will become members of the Rage Tail Posse!
I don't think these baits are for everyone either but I will tell you what I have learned about these baits, at least this one imparticular.
For me it is not like fishing with any other bait that I am used to and I do a LOT of jig fishing.
These baits have to be so life like when they are on the bottom that they must be able to hold the fishes attention, if I moved the bait too soon, I lost, if I gave it time, I won.
Very, very little movement is key to this particular bait at least it was for me under my conditions.
Why did I choose the lobster? well I found out that the water temp had dropped another 2 degrees which put it just under the 60 mark also it has been my experience the bigger bass will often move on larger meals in colder water, it's more food for less work.
I have to give my partner a TON of credit here, he put us on the fish and he was catching them 2 sometimes three to my one while I was on this bait, he gave me the time I needed to get this bait to work, the best part about this whole thing for me was I had made a new friend.
Should you decide to use these baits I hope what I just gave you gets the same results it did for me, be slow and give them ample time to work, 2 or 3 casts is not going to yeild you the results you want but time will.
Good luck and be safe!!!!
I had the pleasure to be introduced to Rage Tail Baits and Steve(Big O) at the Kentucky Lake Road Trip a few years ago. I was recuperating from a hip replacement and was taking pain meds so did not get to spend as much time talking to Steve as I would have liked too. Steve is one of the nicest and helpful people I have ever met. I have caught numerous fish and won or placed in many tournaments using these lures. What it comes down to with me, when money is on the line, what lure will put the most pounds in the livewell. Rage Tail Products has done this for me many, many times in the years since I was introduced to them. I will continue to use them until something better comes along(I don't see that happening).

I know you simply wanted us to try these baits, but you used the word "challenge" and to me that is like testing something or someone to extreme or at least pushing the limit.
To me there is a difference in saying I challenge you to do something compared to simply suggesting to try something different or new.
If you have so much confidence in these baits, which I believe you do and for good reason, then why would you not test yourself under pressure to make sure you gave something your all, just as Big O does with these baits.
To simply ask someone to try these baits will only yeild a half hearted attempt in my opinion.
I challenged myself to try something new, I pushed myself under a condition outside of my comfort zone I was not used to and made myself think, and I came away a better fisherman because of it.
So I say Thank you RW for using the word challenge.
I bought two packs of my confidence colors and will give them a wirl on my next outing and compare to the speed craws I usually use.
Congratulations Nitrofreak Im proud that you enjoy our products and Kelley I don't remember you taking pain meds at Kentucky Lake but I do remember seeing you with several adult beverages on a regular basis. Maybe that's why you don't remember our conversaitons so well. lmao. I appreciate your comments as well and working hard to make a difference in the industry.
