If you could only fish ONE lure the rest of your life.... 2024

fishing user avatarFivePoundBluegill reply :

If you could only fish ONE lure the rest of your life what lure would it be? For me it would be a 6 inch straight tail finess worm. Yeah this bait is probably one of the more boring baits to fish but I chose it because it is the ONLY bait I have ever fished that will catch me bass at any time of year under any conditions. It is my go to bait when fishing is tough as well as my skunk buster bait. I seem to catch bass with a 6 inch strait tail finess worm EVERY time I use one.

Now what would your one bait be if you could only fish one bait for bass the rest of your life.

Also please dont say any type of live bait. You have to pick a lure...

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

Zoom Finesse Worm, watermelon seed or watermelon candy.

fishing user avatarsmallieking reply :

hmm wow good one   aaaa if i could only use one lure for the rest of my life i probably would quit fishing   but it would have to be the tube  zoom finesse tube to be specific  in junebug to be more specific

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

7" Culprit or Zoom junebug worm with 1/8 bullet weight and 4/0 hook.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

3/8 oz green and brown jig

fishing user avatarBassChaser57 reply :

It would have to be a Watermelon Seed Fat Ika. Did I win a prize RW??

8-)

Seriously it would be a soft jerk bait T-rigged, color would depend on water color, clarity, and time of year. Watermelon seed, watermelon red flake, or pumpkin seed.

fishing user avatarbrgbassmaster reply :

3/8 ounce jig.

fishing user avatar.RM. reply :

A 3/8 oz. Spinnerbait, white/chart, Single Nickel Colorado

I can fish it like a spinnerbait, spinner-jig, crankbait, and buzzbait.

Tight Lines All!!

fishing user avatarbasspro48 reply :

5/16oz watermelon/brown/purple finesse jig...Gets em every time

Right on !!!

That's my "go to"/ "no skunk", bait but I'm using 3/16 weight, T-rigged. Sometimes I peg the weight and slide it about 2 ft up the line and fish it as a finess C-rig/ splitshot-rig

fishing user avatarJigNBig reply :

3/8 oz jig with a baby brush hog trailor.

fishing user avatarHesterIsGod reply :

4 inch tube bait. Very versitile, pitch it to docks or heavy cover, swim for aggressive bass, crawl like a crawfish, you can even fish it as a topwater.

fishing user avatar.dsaavedra. reply :

wow.

i'll go ahead and be the first to say a 4" *** *** in smoke blue pepper. this is my most versatile bait. i can dead stick, crawl, jig, walk the dog, wacky rig, and shakey head this bait. it pretty much does everything and it outright catches fish.

X2  you can rig these in every different way imaginable, and work them in so many different ways.

fishing user avatarflippin reply :

my 3/8 oz flippin jig cumberland craw color with watermellon spice paca craw trailor

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

3/8 oz. Black/blue jig

fishing user avatarnorm2525 reply :

It would be a 5/16 once brown jig. I can catch fish with it year around.

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

Lucky Craft Pointer 78 SP American Shad or Ghost Minnow

fishing user avatarRob G. reply :

A Brovarney swim jig.  Just use your imagination as to the ways you can fish it.

fishing user avatarABC123 reply :

Well, I can catch panfish on an almost bare hook, so in order to catch both 'Eyes and Bass on only one lure, it would have to be a #09 Rapala Countdown...Perch. I'll still be carrying my Hula Popper along for good luck though. :o

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

Trick worm.

fishing user avatarbubbler reply :

i dont know if i could only fish oe,i consider myself versitile and need all my tackle.....but if i had to choose one, i would choose a pbs magnun flipping tube.

fishing user avatarF@bio reply :

green 5'' shakey head

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

This is as close to a impossible question as one could get.  This could really make your head hurt... :-/

I'd have to go with a 7" Original Powerworm in Junebug.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

ORIGINAL FLOATING RAPALA #11, IN SILVER

fishing user avataralger319 reply :

Spinnerbait!

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

I love cranks to death...so it is hard for me to say, but I would go with a jig.  It's just too versatile and works too often.  Winter, Prespawn, Summer, fall...the jig is always a go.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

1/4 Black/Red Terminator Pro Top Secret Jig

fishing user avatarbassrogue reply :

Soft plastic frog

You can work it on the top or on the bottom. Or use different weight hooks or retrieve speeds to swim it down deep or shallow. There are alot of ways to modify and rig a frog

Color?  Not sure......bullfrog.....black/blue...... :-/

This is a great thread for suggestions to add to your collection, but if any of you guys know anything about Catt's fishing results, this is a bait YOU NEED TO GET! I know I am.

8-)

fishing user avatarsmcentee reply :

Lucky Craft Wander 80. This bait has the most unique and diverse action of any bait I've used. Moves like a worm, falls like a senko, give it a jerk and it's a minnow on acid, can be fished as a topwater and a subwalker. Covers the water column from top to bottom. They're becoming hard to find.

fishing user avatarba7ss3in reply :

reaction innovations trixie shark bad shad green

fishing user avatarMid-MO reply :

1/2 ounce black and blue jig.  Jigs can be fished anywhere (open water structure, points, heavy cover, rock, etc), any season, at any speed, at any depth (including swimming it).

If you are just going to use one thing - this would allow as much versaitility as anything.

Anybody remember the Bassmaster article  a few years back on the guy who only threw a Devil's Horse - year around?  It was a pretty interesting read.

Looked everywhere for these Catt. Can't hunt them down.

I need a good ringworm.

I can't find them on the internet and they are not listed on the Gene Larew website:

I looked for them on the Gene Larew site too.  Catt, are these some old stock that are out of production now?

fishing user avatarDavis reply :

ebay only has a lot of 3 right now.

In red shad color.

I have no need for three packs. That would last me forever.

fishing user avatarJoe. S reply :

Jig and trailer, pretty much all I fish anyways ;D

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

jig and trailer here also.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

SPINNERBAIT.

You can fish it any speed and depth you want.

fishing user avatarRiskKid. reply :

1/4 oz spot remover pro with zoom finesse worm (junebug).....going to give some *** finesse worms a try (just got em)

fishing user avatarPopeye reply :

A Vibra-Bat.  Just kidding:o) I have a nice collection of them but they are not for usage. I'd probably go with a Texas rigged 6-7" worm or a jig and trailer. Dang, and I REALLY like Hula Poppers and JitterBugs too!

fishing user avatarisland bassin reply :

tandem terminator chart/white spinnerbait ,size 1/2

fishing user avatarAvalonjohn44 reply :

A Trickworm, because you can fish it wacky, t-rigged, weightless, shaky, and on and on.

Around these parts, it would have to be a floating Rapala (silver for clear waters or chartreuse for stained).

Chug Bug I would fish it all day long just to see a bass smack it on top.

Ok...what the hell is going on?!  This is the second person to reply with a jig/brush hog combo.  That is my bait!  No one is supposed to do this!  I spanked 5 keepers yesterday in 45 degree water with a 3/16oz baby boo jig in black/red flash and a black neon baby brush hog...it has always been my cold water jig combo.  I modify mine by cutting off the swim tails to look like whiskers, and shortening the bait by cutting it off right above the legs.  I also cut off the legs and make slits at the base of the 'gliders' or flaps to make them flair open when my jig is sitting on the bottom.   It flat works...

fishing user avatarTucson reply :

I'd seriously consider a double-tail hula grub, watermelon/redflake.

This scenario would sure simplify fishing, just carry one 360 Plano and one of those rod/reel things.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

I don't know what's going on with the Gene Larew web site but if you do a search for it 4 sites come up 2 work and 2 don't. The 2 that work don't list every thing they sell, the 2 that don't work are the correct one.

fishing user avatarBallpark Frank reply :

Spinnerbait(1/2oz. Terminator T-1 chartreuse and white with 1 large gold willow blade and 1 small colorado nickel blade).

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Ok guys thanks to pfluemis we have found the error at Gene Larew; I would also like to add that Red Shad & Junebug/Blue Tail work as well.

fishing user avatarBassFishingMachine reply :

fishing user avatarBig-O reply :

3/8 jig and Rage tail craw or chunk

fishing user avatarVyron reply :

3/8oz spinnerbait white chart skirt with tandem gold / nickel blades

fishing user avatarNorDoor reply :

Since my targeted species in my neck of the woods is the fiesty SmallMouth Mine would be a Lucky Craft Jerk Bait.78 sp series.

My other reason is I could also use it on the trophy Walleye and Pike that swim the waters around here.I could cast it.Troll it.Jerk it.Add weight to the line above it to adjust running depth.Heck I could even carolina rig it.

fishing user avatardetroit1 reply :

If i could only use 1 lure, i would quit fishing. I can't pick one lure. Someone would have to pick it for me. I don't think i could pick 1 just for the day. It would be a soft plastic of some sort, but you make good arguments for jigs. Okay, i wouldn't quit fishing, but i know that i wouldn't go nearly as often. It's too much fun catching them on different lures/techniques. Well, maybe i would go out just as many times, but would enjoy it less. (at least you are fishing). Who am i kidding? I would fish with 1/2 of a lure, and couldn't wait until the next time i go out...

fishing user avatarguitarkid reply :

a rapala lc minnow. But i have'nt tried my senkos or swim senkos so this will probably be changing

Thank you guys!

I just placed my order. 8-)

p.s

The worms are fairly inexpensive, but the shipping fee SUCKS!

Anyhow, I wanted to try them, so I bought 100 of the camoflauge

Catt recommended and 20 packs of the other two colors he

suggested for about $42.

Thanks again.
