It is.

fishing user avatarMcKinneyLonghorn reply :

Tough choice between the Baby Brush Hog (in Watermelon Orange) and the Space Monkey (in Doubleheader), but I think I have to give the nod to Rage Tail here.

fishing user avatarDavid D. reply :

For now, it's gotta be a Brush Hog... Later this month I am guessing that the Rage Tail Bug will take its place though.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Strike King Rodent

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I don't consider it a creature bait, but since the OP listed it the Pit Boss would have to be my choice.

Of the baits I consider to be a creature bait it would be a baby brush hog.

I can´t choose the Space Monkey, it´s too new cuz I ´ve been smokin´bass with Brush Hogs for a much more longer period of time.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

This thread piqued my interest enough to look up some of these guys on TW's site.  I am blown away that there are 124 different creatures on that site alone.   And every one of those comes in assortment of colors and most in various sizes.  Holy crap.  I have probably only used 5 or 6 different ones; so, I've got a long ways to go before I've tried enough to think I can weigh in on this discussion about which might be best.  wow.....

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Or save some money and relyon the suggestions offered.

These are the ones I can HIGHLY recommend:

All Rage Tail

MegaStrike MegaBug & MegaTube Craw

fishing user avatarSoMinnBass reply :

+1 for the Pit Boss!

fishing user avatarriverat reply :

Full size bait - it's a tie between the Zoom Brush Hog and the Gene Larew Hoodaddy

Small bait - Bitter's Bait and Tackle Salty Hog or a Zoom Baby Brush Hog

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

Once you've got it narrowed down to one (or 4) favorites, what's the mostly (most successful) rigging?

Obviously conditions will dictate, but I'm guessing most will generally throw in similar-type conditions when they put a creature on and end up with one or two regular rigging methods?

T-Rig - small weight <1/4oz ?

T-Rig - larger weight > or = 1/4oz ?

Weightless  ?

Carolina ?

Nail ?

Weighted hook (swimbait type) ?

I've had only limited success with creatures 'alone' (except for lizards), and have been using most in some sort of trailer configuration.

fishing user avatarbassh8er reply :

Has anyone said the Brush Hog yet?

That is my go to soft plastic; I use the baby size if I'm looking for numbers or if I'm on a new lake looking for those first few bites.

fishing user avatarWar Eagle 44 reply :

Baby Brush Hog, and I can do you one better, I can even narrow it down to a single color. Greenpumpkin.

That's the exact bait I nailed them on last week. No monsters but 2 - 4 pounders all day. Green Pumpkin is just about the best color around for clear or lightly stained water.

I'll give it a try, are you using the larger 6" bait with this rig?

I like the green pumpkin color in clear water, I also have very good luck with the pumpkin seed and watermelon pepper neon with the tentacles died chartreuse.

I feel the brush hog family is the original and the rest are variations of it - they all work but the brush hog, baby brush hog, tiny brush hog, super hog are all I've ever needed.
fishing user avatarGrant Schuen reply :

i would say my favorite would be a zoom pumpkin or green pumpkin 6in lizard. i rig it texas rigged with a 1/8 oz bullet with a steady retrieve through weeds or pads.

fishing user avatarBalshy Fishing reply :

I'm assuming ya'll are primarily fishing these in lakes and from boats, correct?

fishing user avatarbassh8er reply :

If you ever want a good idea of what baits are selling, check out the "Top Sellers" section on Tackle Warehouse.

The Zoom Brush Hog, Havoc Pitboss and the Biffle Bug are on there now.

I do believe the Brush Hog has gotten some run on this thread.

I fish the Space Monkey and Brush Hog from the shore in community ponds and catch plenty of fish.

Yeah, I hear you. I get beyond frustrated b/c there are plenty of big smallies where I go but it's snag city if you don't get out to the good spot.

Getting hung up is definitely part of the game where I am fishing. But when I rig them weedless I am able to spend more time fishing and less time picking grass and weeds off the bait, which kind of sucks because I catch a lot more fish when it is wacky rigged. It is just not worth the hassle to wacky rig it when you see how much vegetation is in the ponds I fish in.

I'd rather deal with vegetation than car sized rocks under the surface haha

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

Each lake i fish is different, colors change, style of baits change, sizes change, but if i had to choose these would be the ones that produce most often...

1) pit boss...

2) Craw fatty (cant believe this one hasn't gotten any love yet)

3) SK rodent

4) brush hog

I use a lot more than just these, but its gets pretty lake specific... these are the ones I could probably fish anywhere and get it done...

Pit boss in green/green. Has gotten bit in every lake/pond I've thrown it in so far.

fishing user avatarTorqueConverter reply :

Either the Yamamoto Flappin Hog, Havoc Hawk Hog, or Havoc Pit Boss.  If I had to limit myself to just one it would be the Hawk Hog.  It fishes better on a T-rig than the rest and casting a T-rig is how I fish plastics 90% of the time anyway.

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

Gambler's Ugly Otter is my go to. I'm a baby brush hog guy but I like to throw them something they don't see much. Works for me.

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

I actually consider the Yum Mighty Craw more of a creature, as it has so many appendages, but that is a favorite of mine for sure...Any Rage tail or Coffee scented bait is also good, and I have to mention the Lake Fork Hyper Freak which is a good bait....Baby Freak....Its on the smaller size..But fishes big.
