Hello,
Just wondering what was the most expensive lure that you have ever bought, and if you have lost it?
Martin
Evolution Baits Grassburner for $25 when it first came out. Worst impulse buy ever. I think it is like $15 on TW now. I still have it, but I have lost confidence in it so I will probably never lose it.
Megabass JB's are about as high as I go, and I am OK with that.
It still amazes me on the price of some of the larger swimbaits.....glad I have never had great luck with them ????
Z-Man Jackhammer for 14.00 which is actually a good price. I keep throwing my five buck chatterbaits for fear of losing it.
Probably these. For the reasonable price of about $15.00 each. From Big M’s Crankbaits. I could use a few more. I lost most of them. But can’t find Big M’s Crankbaits anymore. The orange/black was custom made at my request and to this day has caught me more bass than anything else. I still have 2. The shad on the bottom catches, too. The top one was lost before catching any fish.
Megabass Vision 110 is the most expensive lure I’ve ever bought. Bought a Jackhammer a few weeks ago and only took 20 minutes to lose it so it got replaced with a Project Z.
Megabass Vision jerkbaits
Still have yet to catch something with them ????

Bought a knockoff 110 on E-Bay last year. Works great at catching snot moss in the ponds I fish.
3:16 Real Deal trout swimbait back in 2007 was $150. I have several Black Dog and 22nd Century Triple Trout custom painted wooden swimbaits between $90 t0 $125. My 1st wooden swimbait was Ken Huddleston Sr Castiac trout swimbait back in the early 90's was $60 and lost it to a big stripe bass on a bouy line cable, 1 of a kind lure that can't be replaced.
Tom
I lost a 5" Bull Shad, Jackall Gantarel Jr, Mattlures bluegill and SWaver 168 in the span of 3 hours..
12 dollars yrs. ago yrs. .... terminator spinnerbait ... caught a lot of fish with it ... still have it ...
good fishing ...
I paid ten dollars a piece for two Bomber Speed Shads and they dont work .
Around $16.00 for Lucky Craft suspending jerkbaits. I have several of them in various colors and sizes. I have lost one of them but I finally replaced it. I got most of mine with gift cards. I won't spend any more than this for lures. I try to get mine for $10.00 or less now.
Panty Dropper Toxic Whipper Snapper - $280 - Pretty sure I could turn it around for more than that if I really tried hard. Its a sought after collector bait. I plan to fish it though.
Bought it to tear up a lake I know has double digits in it this Spring. Demands of work plus flooding here and I have only had the chance to cast it a couple times.
Whopper Ploppers at $12.99 each. I haven’t lost one yet. So far, they’re worth it.
The most I've spent on a lure was $15 or so for an S-Waver or a Whopper Plopper. I'm sure there are some great, expensive lures out there but I catch a ton of fish on $2 - $6 baits so I don't see the need for me to spend more.
This old Creek Chub lure (pictured) belonged to my late grandfather and I've been offered $250 for it. NFS. My last purchase was for a couple of those Evergreen Bream Slides, $66 each.
Phoney Frog glide custom painted in black crappie color. I actually won it in a benefit raffle that I bought $500+ worth of tickets for. I won 2 other baits too but that was the most pricey one.
Most expensive bait I've lost so far is a Donut Shad, which were $80 when I bought mine.
I have a school of Bull Shads/Bull Herrings, a few Triple Trouts and Megabass Megadog. I haven't lost one yet. I retie multiple times a day especially after a catch.
Name brand senko throughout the year
Spro frog for something like $10. Haven't lost it yet.
The most expensive baits that I own are my Bull Shads. So far, I have never lost one.
I do have hundreds (literally) of crankbaits and jerkbaits in the $10 to $20 range and I have lost A TON of those. No matter how many times you lose one, it still sucks. lol
I guess my most expensive lures are Stanford Boom Boom frog and a Boom Boom Popping frog.
Jackhammer no matter the price it never fails I will lose it after an hour or two. At least it seems it’s a given
$25 Sammy. Has caught hundreds of fish. Right after I got it about 7 years ago, I took it to St Clair. Foggy morning and could only see about 20 feet out from the boat. Dead calm, eerily quiet. I decide I'm going to throw it. On about my third cast out into the fog where I couldn't see it, I was walking it back and all of a sudden it sounds like somebody dropped a bowling ball out of a 747!! No weight on line so I continue my retrieve and just as the lure comes into sight, both of us on the boat see a 50 inch class Musky following it back to the boat. Looked like a nuclear sub under the water. My partner said "Kill it" meaning to pause my retrieve and I said...No frickin way, I am not losing this $25 bait to a Musky and reeled it in as fast as I could.
I've got some old Wiggle Warts that fetch $50-80 each. I've never paid that much for an individual Wart, but they easily bring that much.
I've got a few Gan Craft Jointed Claw 178's that go for around $70-80 each.
For me it’s the vision 110 which are around 25$ I mainly fish soft plastics since I have the most success with them and they are cheap ...I am thinking about getting some nice swimbaits this year which would be my most expensive purchase for a single lure
Deps Slide Swimmer 250
3:16 Freestyle Shad
3:16 Freestyle Gill
These were all in the $150-$200 range when I bought them, can't remember exactly. Haven't lost one yet.
Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill for $24.00.

Marty Burns is the guys name if I remember correctly. His screen name is BigM and/or BentonB for here and Tackleunderground. I have a few of his baits in my collection.

This is my worry. I bought the 6" Bull Shad over the winter and have yet to throw it. I have pike and muskie in many lakes I fish.

Bought a special edition Sammy from Japan called a No-Knock for $35. Fishing a tournament here on the Upper Potomac and figured I would try it out. Second cast like you said I thought someone threw a cinder block off the bridge and bam hookup. Tiger Muskie was 45" and about 20lbs but I landed it. The hooks are now all mangled and scratched up the bait.
Most expensive one I bought was a Nishine btour crankbait off ebay for $38. It looks really nice but has caught nothing so it is just setting in the basement.

$25 bluegill swimbait. Second or third time using it my line snapped while casting and launched it to the middle of the lake. Never caught a fish with it
The most expensive lure I have ever bought would be the Teckel Sprinker Frog.
Looking at it a little differently, my most expensive lures are blade baits; silver buddies, Vaults, Vibes, etc. I lose so many, that the lure-cost to fish-caught ratio far exceeds anything else I use. I get many more fish per cast out of Pointers, Visions, Huds, etc.
Usually anything megabass , but I would say mine is the black dog baits Shellcracker G2 , was 50$ plus shipping. Otherwise vision 110 st 25$ a pop.. and I have about 25 of them ????
Whopper Plopper
Helicopter lure kit
$35 but it really cost me my sanity as I must have been insane to buy that trash.
For me it's the 6 inch Storm Swim shad.
While the bait itself may be relatively inexpensive, the only place I fish it requires 4 cross country commercial airline fares, 2 international private air craft charters and a valid passport to get to & back.
Worth it though.
A-Jay
vintage Bomber Speed Shad. 15.00 still have it...………...……….won't use it either......……..
Megabass pop max
It used to be a Mini Slammer which I paid something like $35 for but I have since sold it. My 2nd most expensive lure is a Deps Buzzjet for $25. I haven't caught a fish on either and now the Slammer is gone but I'll still throw the Buzzjet and try my luck but I won't throw it in a lake/pond/river where there are pike and other toothy critters.
My buddy convinced me to buy a $5 chartreuse spinnerbait. We went fishing and I caught a 9.25# largemouth. Then I bought a boat.

Just lost a $30 one that way last week. Got a new swimbait rod, wanted to see how a 4-5oz lure felt on it. Second cast I snapped the line and it sank to the bottom.
It's only in like 6-8' of water and like 20' off of a pier, I am going to head out and try to snag it at some point next week.
Gan Craft S Caper

Yes, is he still making lures? His Facebook page is apparently gone. He hasn’t posted here in over a year.

That's funny right there. My grandmother bought me a banjo minnow for my birthday knowing how much I loved to fish. I had to use the thing enough to catch a few so I could tell her how good it worked. They say most lures catch the anglers...or their grandmothers.
Mine is probably a Lobina Rico (spelling?) popper. I remember it was north of $25, but it does seem to do better than a Rebel popper for some reason.
S-Waver
I have a couple different Lucky Pointers and S-Wavers that are all priced at $18.99
I lost half of one of the pointers after a couple chain pickerels took a run at it. Pulled it a few pickerels, but they were doing doing a number in the lure. After another hit or two, I reeled in the pointer to find it was missing the back half. I throw the bombers now if the pickerels are wanting to play. ????
Megabass I-Slide 185 this winter 60bucks tax included

A SPRO Rat I think. It catches bass. At least it has on one trip. I think it was about $17 at the time. I see they're over $20 now.
I also have a Savage Gear Glide. It hasn't produced a thing yet.
Sebile magic swimmer... Perch (2), don't use it often enough, caught 1 pike. $18 intro.
I have a G2 Shellcracker wake bait that was like $19, haven't lost it yet but almost lost it in a tree first time out because it's so big and casts about a mile.
Gantarel Jr. It's in an artificial habitat. I'm going swimming this weekend hopefully nobody else got it.

I had a SG 5" Shine Glide break off mid cast, I went snorkeling for it a week later when the water warmed up, still couldn't retrieve it. I did find a musky bait while I was in 12 feet of water, looked like the pic below, but it was wooden and about 90% of the paint was gone. d**n thing was still attached to the thickest fluoro leader I've ever seen:
The only type of lures that I can convince myself to spend big on are topwaters. That being said the most expensive lure I've purchased would have to be either the Deps Slither K or Buster K. I think they're around $20.
I prefer the death of a thousand cuts.
Great thread... I bought an Elements Davinci 190 for around 90 bucks from Japan. Love the action on it but havent thrown it that much for fear of losing it... LOL
10$ for a rapala j11 i think

Wow, the tail on that thing is pretty wild
29 bucks on a Hudd 68.
$70 for a Gancraft Jointed Claw 178... Worth every penny
I've got two 9" slammers I think I paid like 75 or 80 for. Expensive....yea. But I don't really fear losing them since they float and I'm usually in a kayak. No muskies or monster pike where I live to steal them. Plus, it's not money down the drain even if I were to not use them (which I do), I could sell them for close to what I bought them for. That's the nice thing with swimbaits, you can essentially rent baits because of the resale market.
Back a few years ago when I was really into tossin swimbaits, 3:16 had some very nice ones, very life like looking. The price was the kicker, some of the ones I bought were $ 150.00 each, no typo, $150.00 USD. I was always nervous about throwing them as they were all treble hooked and any thought of them getting snagged just un neved me..I eventually sold them all. As of today my most spendy is my Lucky Craft 110. $ 17.00..
Lost a Pizz to a pike a couple years ago. $125/$150 ish.
Mattlures Slash Gill, $135
Haven't caught anything on it yet, also haven't had the chance to fish it for more than a few mins yet

Same bait for me. It gets hammered on Fork. I paid $90 also but I see them now for $130+ !!!
My most expensive lures
spro rats in 2 colors 25.00 roughly
whopper plopper low 16-20
and my musky x-rap id have to verify size but was 26.00 I believe
i also have a 28.00 pike musky bucktail spinner which weights like 3 ounces or something wild lol.
so far so good. I loose lures every season, but overall even if you loose a rat and a whopper plopper each season or a couple those aren’t like loosing a 280$ swim bait lol.
For freshwater most of my lures range from 4-10$
Plus, I play hockey, so I buy 300$ sticks to use as a club pretty much so it’s warped my view on what’s expensive for my “hobbies”. My tackle box has easily 700$ of lures and that’s on my new one. The only one was stolen. That thief got me for about 1200$ in lures and if he was a fisherman stole a Mecca of lures for my area. It sickens me to know people are slaying fish on my stolen tackle ????

I've got the smaller hardgill, still not cheap and I've only got one fish on it so far....but it was a 5lber. I haven't really fished it much either but I should this summer.
On 6/3/2019 at 7:23 AM, JeepFisher said:Nice! Glad to hear it gets hammered! Forgot about the tail, was about 20 or 25...
Yep - I've been fishing it out of the box and have not sprung for the tail yet. They are $33.00 ????
I had a giant square bill that was about 20 dollars broke the line, my friend caught the line a couple casts later and saved it. the guy a boat down heard me yelling and came to see what i caught and i was like my lure i thought I lost
Great to see this thread is growing!
Mine is a Whopper Plopper for $12.99
