Impressions Of The Rage Bug 2024

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

During the Bass Resource Road trip this year I had the opportunity to fish the new Rage Bug a little bit and have been fishing the few I have left.  To say the least in one day the Bug quickly became my favorite creature styled bait I own.  It is a little slimmer design then some of the brands I have fished and seems to glide through the water easier while having more limb movement due to the Rage designed curves.  I am very impressed with this bait.  It fits my style of fishing creature baits perfectly.  I have also found that it is a very easy bait to pitch, and even pulls through the veggies very well with either a punch rig or a flipping weight.  It is an extremely universal creature.  Its one that I definitely will keep in my box.

I've attached a picture of the last two I have.

The black and blue one is on my Tungsten punch rig with an Owner Flipping hook.  The green pumpkin is just to show the bait.

Absolutely Deadly!

I gave all my Sweet Beavers away!

I don't know what the color is cause I got a Big-O sack of them from that Big Ole Texan but they are a two tone watermelon (top/Bottom)

My 13 year old grandson said that's death in a bag right there ;)

I fef. Wanna try some of em. They look awesome. Im a sucker for anything Rage Tail.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I still need to try some other presentations, but I'm killin' 'em Rage Rigged!

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

I just love that thing.

At least half of the fish I caught at the roadtrip came on the bug in the Bama color, pitching it around all the lay downs we were in.

I'm loving the bug. Its a great bait. So far I've fished it t-rigged and on a drop shot. Next time I'm out I'm gonna have to try it rage-rigged and as a jig trailer

How big is this bait? Comparable to a pit boss?

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

love the Bug.....caught some of my best fish on it at the Roadtrip...

great action (as always with all the Rage baits)...and better durability than i thought it may have since it is so soft.

it was awesome to fish a bait before it is actually on the market...thanks Big O...  :wink2:

compared to the Pit Boss similar in size.  I do like the Pit Boss..a lot.  but the Bug definitley has more action. so i think they both have a place.

fishing user avatarShane J reply :

Way better action on the claws of the Bug, as compared to the Pit Boss, body gives off more vibration, 4" bait, softer, better colors, and Made in the U.S.A.

So if the fish want a slower action, is the Pit Boss better?

Excited to get my hands on these but I'm sure my Craws will hold me over until then.

fishing user avatarShane J reply :

No, they want you to work it slower. Even in the dead of winter, the higher action baits are preferred. Wakes 'em up!

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

I ordered some Bama Craw and Blue Craw but it looks like at least another week before they will ship.Hoping this will be available in Falcon Lake Craw down the road....

I'm with you on that, maico! In the mean time, if you're like me and can't be without Falcon Craw, then run a little red dye on one side of a green pumpkin. Same deal.

They Look like a Bass Pro River Bug To Me.....But I like them, have used them on a darter head, flipped em, and I just love the coffee on all the Rage Tail stuff..

The CUtr Worm is fantastic,Love the hollow gobies, can't figure out the Shellcracker but I am not putting it down yet, and the Lobster and 4" craw is awesome.

I like the 3" Rage Bugs they are compact and glide nicely.....I just started using the Menace as I got a bunch of them and they are a fantastic trailer, so between dropshot, flipping, weightless, and c-rig...I only need strike King for most part...I like Cut Tail WOrms better than a Trick worm, and I love the huge Recon and 12" Red Shad Worms they had in big packs last year...Strike King is taking over where yamamoto left off....The Ocho is a great stick and has some flash if you add some silver glitter to the sides...

They work great as jig trailers!

I'm flippn-n-pitchin em with a 1/16 or 1/8 oz weight in super shallow water (12-18"). Tried weightless but the light bullet weight changed the rate of fall & made em spiral on the fall...bass said I like that.

What do you mean by " taking over where Yamamoto left off" did they go out of business?

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

Spent most of my 10 hours on the lake Saturday experimenting by tossing beavers.  VERY unscientific....but Rage Bug outfished Biffle Bugs, Reaction Innovations Beavers and and Pit Bosses by a pretty significant margin.  Tried to match up colors fairly closely - Green Pumpkin for each.  Everything on Owner weighted Twistlock 3/0.  In cover...in grass...just off the bank.  Even mixed in some Bama Craw -- which is much oranger than it looks in online pics -- an color that doesn't typically due well in this rez and it was also better than the others.   I'm getting close to being able to pare down my 15 pound worm binder to just Rage Tail bugs, Cut-R's (and flukes).....not quite yet, maybe...lol...but, I'm totally sold so far

Where you punching thick slop grass or just in grass?

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

No slop.  Haven't tried fishing the really thick stuff yet.  Never knew you could until I found BR.  I've been reading up and bought a punch rig from Seibert, but haven't found the conditions (or confidence?) to try it yet.    Makes me wonder if I missed some opportunities last weekend.  Not to jack this thread - I'll make a new one to ask some q's.

You can fish it pretty much however you want. I've had success hopping it back, dragging it slowly along the bottom, even a straight retrieve back.

I thank him and go find my good buddy, after awhile I see him he seems to think maybe by Christmas they might have them.... Ok I will just wait... I am not in a terrible need for them, I have other rage products. I can't figure BPS Out.... Oh well I am a little jealous you guys got them!

I haven't gone a single trip since I received mine that I haven't caught a fish on one. Maybe it's a confidence thing.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I just toss it into lay downs. Gets hit on the fall. Also have had hits just swimming it back for another cast.

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

I used it for punching slop and as a jig trailer on my last outing with results on both applications. Great action just like all the Rage Tail stuff.  Appendages did seem to be a little weaker than most of the Rage Tail products i've used but still a great bait.

No question there.  Don't expect to have both 'arms' after a half-dozen casts.  Fortunately, the tails usually make it through a few fish before losing one, but every once in a while a short strike (or bluegill?) will take one off.
