I see the big bass lure forum I see the Most bass lure forum what about the best lure of all time? I am not looking for which weather conditions it should be used in or which water clarity. Just a all purpose cool lure. Now on the other hand if it works great to, and would trade your first born for one of them (I know I would, mine has a four page itimized, dulpasized, and hourly revised Christmas list, I have just got to convince the little lady. If only it wern a fishing lure and like a vaccume or sumit...) please say so!!!!
FYI: When I say EVER I mean Ever, EVEN IF DISCONTINUED!
Include Brand And Name Of Lure
5" Senko or the original Rapala, take your pick.
ORIGINAL FLOATING RAPALA, ORIGINAL SHAD RAP.
THOSE TWO LURES HAVE PUT MORE FISH IN MY LIVEWELL THAN ANY OTHER.
FALCON
Duh, The Fluke ;D
QuoteDuh, The Fluke ;D
LOL. the number of flukes you own never stops amazing me. i would have to say the senko or jighead/straight tail worm
Gitzit or should I say tube? You can flip it like a jig in the heavy stuff, T-rig it, C-rig it, use it weightless like a Senko, fish it deep, shallow, use it on a dropshot rig, etc, etc. It can handle about any scenario you can think of for green or brown bass.
Senko, tube, original Rapala floating minnow all have caught more fish than you could ever count.
Allen
An original silver Rapala or the Senko.
A jig. I always have a jig tied on no matter where I am or what time of year it is. I can flip it, pitch it, swim it, and just about anything else I want to. IMO it's the most versatile and effective bait out there, and not to mention you have real good chance of catchin a hawg bass on a jig.
Wow nobody said the #1 lure yet!! It is obviuosly the simple plastic worm. My personal favorite variation would be a 7in hand poured curly tail. I have caught more on that bait than any other. Original Rapalas would have to be up there.
All purpose cool lure? That's easy, Jitterbug.
If you don't believe me, ask your grandpa!

I think I read a reply to this question by Homer Circle once, his answer was the plastic worm also. I think his point was that it had caught more fish than any other lure. Then again, I don't trust my memory much any more! I have certainly caught more fish on plastic worms than any other bait. My favorite worm is a 4" Slider worm on a 1/16 oz snagless head. My favorite worm used to be a Big Daddy Fliptail in purple on a wireguard weedless hook with 3 splitshot 18" up the line. We had not found out about the Texas Rig back then. Caught some nice fish on those purple Fliptails.
The best all time lure is a plastic worm.
Doug Hannon's Answer (Big Bass Magic)
Plastic Worm (Texas rigged) It's a long, thin shape resembles the profile of a wide variety of forage in the world of the bass, including earthworms, snakes, eels, and baitfish. Its action is almost entirely dependent on the contours of the bottom; and the rod movements of the fisherman, making it very random. It moves with little noise; the noise that it does make comes mostly from the random clicking of the sinker as it hits bottom. Bright colors and larger size can be used to increase its attracting qualities. Because of its basic resemblance to a wide array of living forage, this lure presents very few negative cues, and is hard for big bass to learn not to hit.
Here is the official answer:
Studies have proven that the plastic worm is the only lure made that a BASS CANNOT REMEMBER!
That is, a bass will continue to strike a worm even after repeated catches, whereas a bass will "turn off" to other lures, spinner baits and crank baits etc. after wearing them out on them. That's why you cannot continue to catch them on your honey hole with the same lure over and over. Bass will stop eating that which will eradicate them. Not true with the plastic worm, however. Although we all know bass will prefer a different bait at different times (i.e. "the pattern") you can always go back to the worm to catch them.
It is a Kalin grub impaled on a 1/4 oz. leadhead jig.It ain't fancy, but it works. ;)Ivan
I'll also choose a plastic worm.
Culprit worm.
Ronnie
6" straight plastic worm.
live bait even though its not a lure. Some people see it as cheating but if it continously puts big fish in boat i dont care hoow i get them.
Original Floating Rapala silver/black back
the 5 inch senko in terms of #'s of fish.the jig in terms of size of fish.
Black Zoom Trickworm.
Hard bait = Original Rapala
Soft bait = Senko
SOFT PLASTIC: Culprit Original Worm
HARD PLUG: Rapala Original Floater
Roger
their is no such thing as the best lure of all time. It is all personal opinion what is best.
QuoteThe best all time lure is a plastic worm.
If talking only of Bass then the plastic worm is #1 BUT...... if talking of an all around bait for all species then I would have to say the original Rapala floater or Shad Rap comes in at #1.

Hmmm . . . . you took the words right out of my mouth, though the senko type worms are up there too.
It would have to be the plastic worm or the Rapala Original Floater.
in florida, a 7 1/2 in culprit type worm( fla grape green flake(junebug),and red shad/green flake during the spawn). notice i said fla grape,it is dark grape but held up to the sunlight it has a violet hue. not all black grape are the same. color tried and proven in florida waters. in earlier days, this was a top secret formula that worm manufacturers held dearly;and would not disclose to anyone. in cold water, use same colors with small straight tail worms. (remember you can fish a worm too fast but you cant fish it too slow in cold water, and this applies anytime the fishing is slow)
He never specifically said the best BASS lure, but maybe thats what he meant. If he means the best lure of any kind of fish ever, I'd have to say the MEPPS spinner, then the original floating RAPALA. If he's talking bass, I'll bet its the plastic worm.
senko and jig n pig. thats the two that have influenced my fishing the most.

The above statements are absolute BS!
The best for the moment is the one that you are casting and catching with. The plastic has proven to be the best over time because it is the most thrown over time: for me that means the best of the best is the Senko.
So George you don't think a Senko would fall under the plastic worm category?
"The plastic has proven to be the best over time because it is the most thrown over time: for me that means the best of the best is the Senko."
Can't say it any plainer than that.
Plastics have certainly won its share of money and can be rigged for any conditions or situation.
Matt.
i would have to say the "Slug-Go" if i could only have one lure the "slug-go" would be it. it can be fished top to bottom and with the injured minnow action it can't be beat!! ;D
5" Junebug Senko. And while we're at it, hell, why not the trusty Chatterbait?
Manns Jelly worm. It might not be the best now but it started a revolution years ago.
Another vote for plastic worms
Curly tail grub.
5in. Senko (preferably watermelon)
Wow no spoons! Zara Spooks! No Lucky Crafts! I vote for a Sammy. No soft plastics cause they are short lived quasi disposable. The best lure would have to have a sense of long term durability, like George Perry catching the record on his one and only lure.

I am a fan of the Zoom and Senko Worms and the Rebel Pop-R.
The best- Senko style worms (I prefer the Yum Dinger).
My favorite to use would be the spinnerbait. I prefer a Quad Shad.
When all else fails, I throw a shaky rig with a green pumpkin zoom finesse worm. It will catch fish when nothing else will.
bandit fire tiger shallow diving crank bait
zoom watermelon candy baby brushhog

Mepps Spinner
Everyone has used one, it the most basic lure but it catches fish.
I think the Senko changed the sport.
Even though I don't use them, I gotta say a plastic worm. More bass have been caught on that one lure than any other.
