Large fish being relative to where you fish. For me, it's no contest.
3/8 ounce bleeding Hart Stopper White buzz bait made by Hart.
Keitech Crazy Flapper on an 1/8 ounce Owner Ultrahead
Senko wacky
2/0 circle hook weightless
i don't know if it's the best large bass lure but it's the only lure that will catch em in this heat.for me
Edited by Burros3/8oz Megastrike cavitron buzzbait, black blade, black skirt.
Runner up is a weightless texas-rigged Rage Tail Cut-r Worm, green pumpkin.
the plopper.
6" Junebug Zoom U Tail, texas rigged on a 3.0 Gamakatsu offset shank, with a 3/16 black bullet. a little Megastrike and I'm in business.
3/8oz Siebert Outdoors Brush Jig in either black/blue or bluegill. Paired with GCYB Flappin Hawg or Zoom Ultravibe Craw.
3/4oz Strike King Redeye Shad in Chartreuse Baitfish
Keel weighted Super Flukes ripped across the surface and then immediately allowed to die. I have no idea why I forgot about fishing these this way, but holy **** is it exciting watching fish smash them out of the water as soon as you pause them and let them fall.
Large bass...(?!) You're making a lot of assumptions there, cowboy. ; )
BUT the largest bass I've caught this summer was taken with a brown and orange skirted spinnerbait.
3/8 oz flipping jig
Also no contest for me. During the day I've only fished ponds and the river once or twice and all my big ones were on swimbaits at daybreak or dusk. Mattlures ultimate gill in the ponds and Keitech 4.8 fat impacts in the river. At night I've fished larger lakes and dam tail races on the river and caught all my big ones on 1/2 oz night spinnerbaits in the lake and burple or albino colored bomber long A's in the river
Bill Norman FatBoy. My three biggest this summer were caught on it. Straight out of the package, third cast, both sets of hooks in her mouth, the first one was the biggest.
Between work and remodeling a bathroom and bedroom, plus a deck tear out, I think I forgot. But I think it was a Zoom Ol Monster - California 420 fished after dark.
zoom candy bug worm-i think they're 9", t-rigged,
Toss up. Rapala skitter pop in a brown/white frog pattern.
And a Texas rigged rage craw . (Really glad I tried these)
For big bass it has been a 130 Perch Whopper Plopper. And for both good fish and numbers it has been a 3/8th Picasso shock blade in bluegill with a 3.8 Kietech swing fat in bluegill flash.
Bandit 100 series squarebill
Stanley Top Toad has been killing them lately. One 6lber and two 5's two days in a row. Plus a few 4's. I'll make a post soon.
Powder colored W.P 130 for the largest and various soft plastics on a drop shot for numbers. Try the Reins bubbling shaker, you wont be sorry.
Mann's 1/4 ounce 1- minus. I've been burning it over the top of milfoil.
Texas rigged Rage Craw, with a 3/8 oz. tungsten weight, and punch skirt. The most versatile bait I've ever used.

x2
130 size was responsible for 2 of the 5 fish I have caught over 4 lbs this year. Runner up is the swimjig but my 2 4+ lbers were caught in the spring (including my PB at 5.4). Other was on a spro rat.
Fat Ika/T-rig craw.
Since June, the Ika has caught me 11 fish over 3.5lbs. Among them, 4 were 4lbs+, and 2 were 5lbs+. Additional Honorable mention goes to the T-rig Zoom Super Speed Craw, which brought in 3 additional 4lbers, and one 6lb+
My two largest this summer have come on a 6 inch Jelly worm .
I haven't had one superior big bass lure, but a few. I fish a lot of the berkley chigger craw, so naturally that produces some big fish due to purely numbers of fish caught. However, I have caught some big girls on the BPS 6" stick and the Zoom Magnum Finesse worm. Funny, also caught a decent 4+ girls on the ned. Not a lot of big hardbait fish this year.
Texas rigged 8" ribbon tail worm. Not sure of the brand I have had them for a long time one 1/2 is a dark brown and the other half is a light brown and they are covered in salt. The original packaging has long left the building.
Haven't really caught any pigs but considering its summer and it has produced some nice 3 to 4 pound lmb Ill call that a win.
I was catching them on the Pumpkinseed Zman ribbon tail worm but only had 5 and they got where they didn't want to stay up on the hook. I emailed Zman and they claim this color were no longer made. The only other tan/brown worm I had close was the ones I described.
Honestly they could be pink or what ever and I think they would work. I believe its more technique than color working right now.
The biggest bass I have caught this summer was on a 7" black and blue BPS ribbon tail t-rigged with a 1/4 oz weight in 8 fow. It was just shy of 21". Didn't get a weight.
Black with a red blade 3/8oz Cavitron has been the hero the last few weeks.
Whopper Plopper 90, in loon
A 3/8 oz jig with chigger craw trailer has wracked up some pretty good fish for me.
6" Roboworm green purple color nose hooked on a drop shot rig.
A 5" Zoom Shakey Head worm in various colors, either dropshot or weightless.
Definitely for me its a three way tie....
Whopper Plopper
Teckle Taker in black/red
White 1/2oz spinnerbait with gold Colorado blades
Strangely, the topwater frog. I've used various styles, though, to replace my Hula Poppers and, to an extent, walking lures.
The jig follows that, with the spinnerbait almost tying.
Fourth in line is the squarebill crankbait.
The river, however, shows the squarebill and spinnerbait going neck-in-neck, just under different conditions.
Josh
gambler 7" ribbontail red shad worm. t-rigged,lightest weight I can get away with.
home made jika rig - 1/2 oz more or less - 3/0 hook - regular size Zoom Brush Hog green pumpkin/orange flakes
Last month or so the secchi disc readings have been consistently 3 1/2 to 4 1/2.
That chatterbait has been slayin some biguns
i love my whopper plopper... it has a cult following with the pond hoppers around these parts

White 1/2oz spinnerbait with gold Colorado blades
#1 - live target hollow body frog 65T in emerald.
#2 - venom tube t-rigged with an 1/8 bullet weight in roadkill.
For me its been the 1-, plopper and a fatboy. And I noticed all 3 have been working for others. The baby one minus and fatboy are legendary , but I just this year picked up a plopper and I am amazed at the success I have had with it.
My biggest summer bass this year have mostly been caught on this silent Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn Square Bill Crankbait on 6-8ft ledges.
Plopped bass last week
Spro's big rat wake bait at dusk and Upton's 13" straight tail mid night worm after dark.
