When throwing soft plastics - what determines why you would choose Black & Blue as a color vs. Junebug as a color ? ... Thanks in advance !
Good question.
I throw Junebug far more often than b&b, not sure why,
but when I was throwing a lot of b&b I did catch some
nice bass, but then that color just stopped catching.
When I added JB to the mix, the catch rate has been far
more consistent year-around.
Totally unscientific, just my experience.
Junebug is prettier.
Junebug is a good color in stained water. I have far better luck on black and blue jigs and trailers in really dirty water. I have never had any luck with a black and blue soft plastic by itself.
Two of my favorites. Cant go wrong with either in stained water. Junebug is my go-to overall and B & B is at night.
Another vote for Junebug as the better all-around soft plastic color of the two. Just seems to work in a wider variety of water clarities, plus it's a more standardized color combination across all companies. You see a lot more variation in black/blue patterns and coloring between companies, to the point I won't use/buy some of them because they just don't seem right to me.
I use both, and know that Junebug is common and fairly standardized. However, Yum dingers in their "Bama Bug" - a muted (almost dull) black/blue swirl have caught me more bass in stained Georgia ponds than any other stickbait color.
June being translucent black grape or dark purple with green flakes differs from non translucent black with a wide variety of blues from neon blue to blue flakes.
Both work very good under a wide range of depths and water clarity.
Anyone not using black with blue soft plastics is missing out. Berkleys Power worms in black with blue flake has won more night tournaments then all other worms combined where I fish.
Tom
I choose between the two based on the one I grab first ???? Both seem to work well for me under the same conditions
Black-N-Blue!
If I want a Junebug color it's Cinnamon Pepper Neon Junebug Laminate!
Camouflage ????
Candybug
I throw junebug soft plastics and black jigs with blue trailers, no other reason than that's how I've always done it, and it works. I do throw black senkos with blue fleck too.
I use June bug an hour or so before dark til last light. That is my time slot for it, and it almost never fails. I have had little results with black/blue anytime but in all fairness I have not used it much in years, since most of where I fish is clear to moderately stained water now. I don't fish much at night, but I'll give it a try when I do again.
Ini.....mini.....myni......mo !
that said, if I have a guest and just want to catch fish, a 4 inch BB wacky gets the call
Good replies ... I know Junebug and Black & Blue are staples for Florida's tanic stained waters but there are nuances to learn for sure between the two .
I solve this dilemma by using B&B jigs with a bit of purple in the skirt. Trailer can be either.

X 2 great color at night in a brush hog!
Seems like we should simply put one of each on the hook. I admit that in the past I've never discerned any difference between the two. Will be more careful now.
when I lived in Iowa, Junebug was a good color. Here in Kansas it has not produced much for me. black and blue wins here.
I live in Michigan and Black/Blue produces better than junebug for me.
As you mentioned @ChrisD46, I have better luck with junebug in lakes with a tannic stain to them, but it's a good dirty water color too.
Also, anyone not fishing black and blue in clear water is making a mistake!
Yall really think the bass care? I dont.

I fish some lakes here where they do. I've tried the exact same bait in both colors and they show a distinct preference to the junebug. Others lakes it doesn't matter at all. I really wish it didn't, makes it way easier when I can just fish whatever dark color I pull out of my box first. It got to the point that I started making junebug colored jigs specifically for a couple lakes I frequent.
On the ponds that I fish late April, early May is when junebug colored plastics fished on the bottom is a killer.
Sometimes colors matter . I was tearing them up on chartreuse pumpkin and these two guys were wanting to buy them from me . I told them I didnt have anymore but had five bags .
I use black/blue and the purples , if ones working the other probably is to .
For me it's as simple as this:
Is the bait offered in black and blue? If the answer is yes, then I buy black and blue. If the answer is no, but it's offered in June bug, then I buy June bug.
If the bait is offered in both colors, I choose black and blue.
With the exception of Yum dinger/Senko style stick baits (for those I prefer black and blue), I prefer june bug in worms, and black and blue for craws/creatures/jig trailers.
Junebug works great for river smallies here. I throw both for large mouth with an equal amount of success. Black and blue get the nod in stained water.
Junebug and Andy bug are my primary worm colors. Black w blue flake jig trailer on all black or black blue skirted black jig. I fish in a mudhole. In reality, no reason except that is what my menorah suggested.
Whatever Walmart or bass pro shops have in stock in either color,I live in Florida mostly stained water flipping and pitching in heavy vegetation 90 percent of the time,I haven't noticed a difference between the two in the waters I fish, plus Im plopping a 1-2 oz tungsten right on top of there heads, they don't even have time to look at the color ????????????
I throw b&b more but there are times around here that you must have a jig with purple. Junebug is one of my go to's for this. Pbj is another.
Junebug - Soft Plastics
Black/Blue - Jig (only because ease of availability otherwise junebug would be it)
@Siebert Outdoors shhhhhh don't mention purple...
For me, junebug is a color I go to when they won’t bite the usuals ie; greens and blacks. Junebug and pb&j are colors that I basically use to bail myself out of a bad day.
If the water is dark i fish a lot of june bug soft plastics, but for jigs black and blue seems to be the best. I pair the black and blue jigs with june bug or black and blue craw/creature baits depending on whatever one gets bit the most.
I prefer junebug in plastics for the simple reason that green flake seems to outperform blue flake (or any other kind) where I fish.
For jigs, I prefer browns and greens over both.
I throw June Bug most of the time. The only time I throw BB is when river fishing.
I think it get down to whatever color you have confidence in, me, Junebug followed by Green Pumpkin. I really don't buy much of other colors.
I try to keep all different colors in the box in case something turns on that I didn't expect. That said, I pretty much stick with green pumpkin and junebug. I'll use black and blue when fishing a jig; but, for plastics, I almost always grab a junebug first. My PB was caught on a Zoom Junebug Finesse Worm.
Whenever I fish with my brother in law I am reminded how much I envy his colorblindness.

LOL. I had a favorite green hoodie that turns out was brown. Went to Zoo Lights the other night (before the shut down) and could only see blue and yellow on a tree until I was right up to it, turns out there were 5 color lights on it, rainbows only have 3 colors. So if you ever see a guy shinning a flashlight at the bags of plastics at BPS, say hi.

Have you heard about enchroma glasses ?
It's stained here so i throw black and blue as a rule. I won't usually throw another color unless I run out of black/blue. The old rule the old timers used to have was you can catch bass on any color worm as long as it's black. That still works for me. I do try other colors on the rare occasions that it doesn't rain for three weeks and the water clears to a visibility of more than 2 or 3'.

Does it produce well? I'm in Michigan also and I don't have any issue with my greens or anything with a flash or contrast to it...except black and blue. And Junebug. I don't know why but rivers, to fairly clear lakes to greenish colored pit lakes...black and blue and Junebug, for ME, have a combined, all time 3 fish. And those were at night using a Pit Boss as a topwater.

Same here. I've tried to give it a shot, ha, ha, even bringing ONLY those colors so I don't cheat. But I think the lack of production just makes me more bitter???? BB and Junebug have never worked for me here, from the southern part of the state, up to several different places in mid-Michigan.
I just a lot of ponds that have chocolate milk water clarity. I found black and blue is the ticket earlier in the season and in the dog days of summer when the water clarity is at it's worst it's junebug all day. Plum is also a good option in the summertime.
I go with Junebug most often but I do throw B&B, usually more so for craw baits. I don’t remember why... I’m getting old.
I didn’t know it was legal to throw a jig that’s not black & blue.

The first two colors that I buy when stocking up on baits is green pumpkin and black and blue. I always make sure that I have those in the following baits; Rage Craw, D Bomb, Craw Fatty, Rage Menace, Power Worm, Senko, Yum Dinger, RI Beaver and Pitboss. Yes, B&B works great in Michigan.

BB jigs, also? That's weird...Maybe I'm just not feeling it because of my past...ha, and recent experiences. What kinds of water are you fishing?

I fish mainly for LM Bass in the western end of Lake Erie and some inland lakes. I don’t fish a lot of jigs except for swim jigs and all of them are green pumpkin, B&B or white.
My personal theory is that I will use black in dirty water, low light conditions or fishing rather deep and junebug in clearer but still stained water. But I could be wrong on any given day.
