Just curious to see what everyone's most productive hard topwater lure is, whether it is a popper, walk-the-dog, or wake, etc... For me, it's the LC gunfish
Probably a popping frog or buzzbait. Those aren't really hardbaits though...
Mine is a walker. It looks like the forage (shad), has good injured action, and I can cover all kinds of water w/it.
yellow magic for me
In the past few years, it was a frog colored Skitter Pop. This season, my top producing topwater was easily a 1/4oz. black Cavitron.
Pop R in clear
Easily spook type baits.
Sexy Dawg
Megabass PopMax
It has to be a tie between the Super Pop'R and the Rattlin' Chug Bug, both have really been fish catchers in my arsenal. I think the Chug Bug wins in number simply because I've been using them since they came out and while the Super Pop'R has been around for quite some time, it has been as long as the Chug Bug. The Super Pop"R , also called a Premium Pop'R is 3 and 1/8" long and slightly thinner so it only weighs 5/16oz, and it has different finishes but because of the profile it has a different sound and I'm convinced it gets bit more because of it. The Chug Bug is a popper and a walker combined, it is the easiest popper to make walk and what makes it so deadly is you can make it "pop" like most poppers but this one you make spit, and that is the very thing that makes a yellow magic, Zell Pop, and the Rico so popular, that spitting sound gets even neutral fish to bite, and add in the fact you can walk it and it is a no brainer that it is one of the best topwater baits for producing numbers of fish.
Easily the pop r type baits in 1/4
Mine would be this specific one eyed Sammy 115. The color was MS Am. Shad, but it's mostly silver and clear now. It's my most productive because it's the one I throw the most. I've caught a ton of bass on that thing.
Numbers it's hard to beat the original Michael, Iovino's Splash-it is a close second.
Big bass in the 4 to 6 lb range the Balsa Sammy is my go to surface lure, Jackall Pompadour is starting to become a close second
Trophy size bass Black Dog Wooden Lunker Punker followed by ABT Dirty Donkey.
Tom
yamamoto popper
Mega PopMax
Ima Roumba
Lucky Craft Sammy
Second place wouod be a rapala floating minnow. Not really a topwater but at times it's deadly just twitched on the surface.
No other topwater bait even comes close to the number of fish I've caught on a buzzbait though!
Super Spook Jr. in gold with black back with orange belly
Super Spook Jr in bone
To elaborate on my original post a bait I really fell in love with last year was the Sebile Bonga Minnow 95. There is just something about it that makes it different then other spook style baits. It seems to be a big fish magnet for me and catcher numbers also. Not once have I read someone mention that lure ever and it's surprising. Maybe it is because they are expensive or because TW doesn't carry them. The funny thing is I had it for years and never used it till this year and boy was I missing out.
I don't think price has too much to do, many baits over $10 have already been mentioned. Probably because that bait is marketed toward salt anglers.
Chartreuse buzzbait for me. It never fails me in the sunrise
I've always had great luck with the tried and true Jitterbug in black. Some days i'll catch fish after fish on that......warm summer evening.....*sigh.....can you tell it's winter here in Indiana yet?
I target smallmouth so I would have to say a clear tiny torpedo.

I feel you! It's starting to get cold! Lless snow than usual though.. Hmm.. But yes, a black jitterbug is a killer bait on a hot summer night!
Tiny Torpedo
The big musky size black jitterbug is my favorite night time bait for river smallies.
Super Spook.

That specific color/size has been an absolute beast for me for years. Great for size and numbers, they cast really well and accurately. Big brown fish in current absolutely lose theyre mind over them.
Bone Chugger
Slick pop
Pop-r's and spooks are way above anything else for me.
Megabass X-pod by far

^ This. Nothing else is even close.

Yo-Zuri Banana Boats
The last time I used hard baits my most productive baits were the F7 Rapala and Storms chug bug. They caught me plenty of fish years ago.
I had my best topwater success with frogs this year, although I must say that I didn't throw much topwater other than frogs. I did throw some buzz baits and an occasional Spook. I fished frogs the most.
Ask me again next December after I get to fish my new Megabass XPods, XPod Jrs., and PopMax's next season!
Tight lines,

The RI vixen is right there for me too!

X2, great popper.
Super Spoolk Jr. with the original a close second after some modifications.
Super Spook Jr in bone color or a Zell Pop XZ2. I have one Zell Pop that just has "it" that has caught me hundreds if not thousands of fish.
I'll put my money on the Hula Popper every time. It's an old bait but it just plain out works.
I didn't use a hardbait topwater too many times this season, but on the few occasions that I did I would use a Rapala Skitter Walk in baby bass. For some reason this year (outside of frogs) it wasn't a "hot" technique this year.
Black Jitterbug worked over weed beds.
overall, I would say the chug bug since It walks so darn good and with fluoro it spits and pops like no other, I have used all the Lucky Craft, Japanese stuff, other than the color patterns, I honestly would still fish a bone colored Rebel Pop'r before any other popper, if I want a walker, I like the Sammie, but I would rather throw the Yo-zuri Banana boat with a dressed treble on back, or lately the only lure I have found that is awesome and unfortunately expensive is the Ima Skimmer, I am in love with that lure, but then again, the BPS slim dog is tough to beat.....
I wish I did well with the Gunfish, I love the concept, I just do not have the confidence to throw it, I do better on the chuggin spook one knocker...Megabass looks awesome, love the colors, hopefully they end up at a liquidator like the River2 sea and Spro, Savage stuff has lately, and the Bubble pop is good, but no better than any other popper in my opinion, Chug Bug can do it all.....
