Okay so I'm considering about making a custom jersey and I'd like people's opinions on it, I'm not sponsored but would it be okay to use logos from companies on it and stuff like that?
Also how effective is punching the ca delta in January, and what are ways to fish it in this time of year
Wearing a jersey while amateur fishing is a little like wearing a NASCAR jumper while driving to get some milk. Cash some checks and get real sponsors...otherwise you look damned silly.
This is fishing. You can wear whatever you want when you are fishing. Ask yourself if you really want to pay to be a human billboard? Now, if it was your high school fishing team jersey, that would be a different story.
There is an old saying "Don't buy the cow if the milk is free." Why would anyone - ever - compensate you in any way if you were already pimping their product for free?
I don't know, but I would rethink the whole logo jersey idea.
Nothing wrong with it. There are many in the FireFighter tourney who wear jerseys with brands on them. I say if its a company that you use and like, why not sport it?
To answer your question, no its not ok to wear logos on a fishing jersey for whom you are not sponsored. The very first question at checkout is do you have permission to use these logos.
I would be having the highschool fishing team logo and our sponsors and maybe a few other logos
I love wearing the jersey's because they're just comfortable to wear all day.
But to advertise someone's product just to have something printed on the shirt...Nope not me.
If I just had to have something on it, maybe my kids or grandbaby's names?
Local High School or college mascot?
Something that make's YOU proud to show off?
But thats just me
Mike
Seems like adding logos would detract from your actual sponsors and possibly aggravate them.
Me personally, i wouldnt put "lews" on my shirt because i really like them. But if you have a local tackle guy, that you are faithful with, ask him if you can put his on. He will either estatic or he will say no. Who knows, he might slip you a bag of worms or something.
And if you doput the big companies on your shirt, have the decentcy, to send them an email and ask permission. Who knows what they will say.
Nobody mentioned this, but if you do put logos on your Jersey, (with or without permission) make sure to present your self professionally whenever you wear it. You do not want to reflect bad on a company that you really like. You really dont want people who dont know any different to see you have a melt down at a weight in or something and then think "well dang, comany-x will sponser anyone" its even worse if they send a nasty email to said company.
My two cents, but i do like the jerseys type. I have my companies logo on the shirt. It doubles as a work shirt.
I wouldn't put any company on your jersey until you receive permission. I would think if it was a copyrighted logo then you could possibly get in trouble. They put their logos on merchandise to sell to the public and if you are using "said" logo without their consent they could make you remove it.
I do love the jersey idea and would love to one day have some sponsors to have one made.

I do the same.

Precisely why I'm coming down on this. Looking silly at 41, my age, no one cares. Looking silly at 15...another story.

Why would he look silly? I would wear a jersey that had BPS, Shimano, Zoom, YoZuri, Power Pro, and other stuff that I use on it. Who cares? Its what I like, and everyone else can blow off! What is the company gonna do? Complain about free advertising? Don't listen to these fools kid, do what you want, fish naked if you want to, whatever makes you happy.

Couldn't have said it better myself LMG.
Some people are just mean and critical.

I've never been the jersey type of anything but we've all seen guys wearing jerseys of their favorite players or teams in the major athletic sports. Part of why I've never worn one is I just can't see myself having some other guys name emblazoned across my body.
But my point is wearing that stuff is not doing anybody any harm. If someone likes a fishing brand or fisherman enough and like the jersey looks which I think have really taken off and gotten deliciously gaudy as tournament fishing has gotten to be more mainstream, go for it. But you should follow the advise others have mentioned of getting permission first. In fact most jersey manufacturers will require it and try to conduct yourself with respect when wearing it.
Also, I've got a 14 year old and have seen point blank that looking silly seems to be where it's at. It's called peacocking and as young men i think we've all engaged in it at some point. Granted I don't see how a fishing jersey is going to benefit anyone in this area. But as a married man that's not something I have to figure out anymore, thank God. Have you seen these skinny jeans?! Oh the horror!!!
So you own a Ranger you bought and paid for, no help no sponsorship and wear a Ranger hat and jacket. That's identifying with a product you are proud to own. That's okay. You own a Revo and get a hat on an Abu promotion. You identify with the product. That's okay. So go find a jersey and have brand logos put on it you want to identify with. There's absolutely no rule that says you can't. If someone asks you if you are sponsored tell them the truth, you love the product and share your support of it on your back. This stuff gets so far out of balance.
I actually have a jersey with multiple sponsors so I think I can provide the best advice. First cover your local sponsors and your team. They should be your main focus. I would put your team name front and center as well as your last name on your back just like any other jersey. Then I would put local companies that actually sponsor you on the front in premier spots even if its jims tackle and bobs burgers. After that contact companies and ask them if you can put them on your jersey ( try some of the bass resource sponsors or even bass resource itself you use it enough) . Dont worry about what some of these guys are saying you ,want to promote things you use and like there is nothing wrong with that. Once you have your jersey dont go telling people you are sponsored by lets say Spro when you are not. To be honest a lot of these logos just look cool for instance dobyns rods.

Exactly my point , this is a great piece of advice.
Pretty much going to put the club name, my last name, local made lure companies that I love to use and maybe a few companies that have products that I'm proud to own such as my dobyns rods and lews reels
And I'm obviously not going to say I'm sponsored, that is just dumb to say that you are if you aren't

X3, do what ever makes you happy! If that means wearing a jersey then do it. Who cares what other people think about you, its not a popularity contest.

Thanks

I was apparently having a bad day. I apologize to the kid and if he wants to wear a jersey then more power to him.
Haha I found the jersey I want now, thank you for the suggestion

I completely agree. I wear fishing jerseys almost every time I go fishing. Hell, I don't even fish tournaments! I just think that they're very comfortable. (Plus, they make you look pretty sweet.)
PS. Why would any company in its right mind complain about free advertising?
Yes you can do that. Sponsors love being represented by people that they don't sponsor it shows drive. Thats a great way to get sponsored.
I was on a college fishing team and we had jerseys that had plenty of sponsors. They were pretty cool. Now that I am graduated sometimes I will still wear the jersey when im fishing just cause its the most comfortable thing to wear. Its crazy light weight, if it rains it dries in like 5 minutes. Its pretty Rad. If I were to put a sponsor on a jersey now I would ask local places as you said. Post a picture when you get it!
So, is it legal or not to have a Bass jersey made that contains logos of companies you admire?
I have a question about jerseys. I'm thinking about getting one with the B.A.S.S. logo on it. I'm still holding out hope to fish the opens as a co-angler some day and I know that you have to have their logo on your jersey. I'm a Mason and a Shriner, therefore I want to put those logos on my jersey.
Here's my question, where, or how, do I find digital files with logos? I freely admit that I'm a dinosaur at this stuff. Everywhere I look at jerseys, or even moisture wicking custom t-shirts, they say that they need "digital files" of the logos.
Thanks for any help.
Sometimes I wear a Kevin Durant jersey to pick-up games, if my teams loses, I just join the winning team.

Yeah, well at 42, when I’m fishing, I look silly at least 80% of the time.
I used to wear a TDF best climber polka dot cycling jersey on our hilliest training rides, of course back then I weighed 140 lbs and could actually back it up, Now I'm looking for a Subway® or Krispy Kreme® jersey.
Why do Masons and Shriners wear B A S S jerseys?

If you fish in a B.A.S.S. tournament, as a Angler or Co, you have to wear their logo to go across the stage. Especially on the last day. If you don't have it screen printed on your jersey, they will give you a sticker.
As to the Masonic and Shriner's logo, I don't have to wear them. I'm a proud member of both organizations. To be a Mason, you have to ask a Mason, 2B1-Ask1. If that helps start the conversation, I'm good with it. If me wearing the Shriner's logo causes someone to donate to help disabled children, or children injured in a fire, again, I'm good with it. Much like St. Jude's Hospital, no child's family has to pay a cent to use a Shriners Hospital, including meals, transportation to and from. All done through donations and paper sales. I hope that clears it up.
I had one made for my brother and me. Just for fun. Here is what I had made.
I used to fish a trail and these guys had Keystone Light Jerseys. It was awesome, and they were GOOD!

@Harold Scoggins that's the best????????
I fish and am sponsored by the Crappie Psychic LLC in Louisiana but i also use Salters jiggin poles and know the owner well. So i am only wearing my jersey the way the sponsor made with salters logo on a sleeve. With permission.
I don't have a jersey but I will not go fishing without wearing my palegic or after long-sleeved sun shirts... same material as the jerseys
I am sure the companies on the jersey will appreciate the free advertising. How many of us walk around with a Strike King or other bait, tackle, rod or reel companies ball cap? Same free advertising.

Bingo!
I wore a Budweiser T-shirt to school in junior high.
I came in late to this party so I really don't care who puts what on a fishing jersey. If you're willing to be a walking billboard for free - good for you - I'm not a big fan of that so I don't. I own a few SPF 50 fishing hoodies and I wish they didn't have any logos at all. Now, referring to the previous post - Volzfan 59 - check with your state grand lodge - I don't know about Tennessee, but in Missouri, the grand lodge won't let a lodge put the Masonic square & compasses logo on a boys or girls baseball or softball team shirt that is sponsored by the lodge, so I'm pretty sure that putting the Masonic square & compasses on your fishing jersey is a bad idea - in Missouri. Your state grand lodge may have a different opinion, but I'd check first prior to putting it on a jersey. Probably no issue wearing a Masonic pin or two on the jersey, I don't know. I do know that I'm a Mason and I wouldn't do it. I'd get an informed opinion from someone in your grand lodge prior to purchasing the jersey.
Masonic grand lodges can get pretty pissy about where they put and don't put their logo. So I've heard - or at least that is what I heard when I was in charge of purchasing the T-shirts of boys & girls teams that my lodge sponsored.

I buy plain hoodies and have my elementary aged grandkids design "grandpa's fishing team" jerseys with permanent markers. They usually spark a conversation at the loading ramp...

I dont see anything wrong with it. You can go out and buy tshirts and stickers for every company out there... even here. Now it wont be officially licensed but that doesn't stop the guy selling NFL jerseys at 25% the cost on ebay.
Thought this thread was about fishing in New Jersey.
