Hey, placing a order a tackle warehouse. I am wanting to get some new jigs, but can't decide on what brand. What jig from tw would you guys buy? Thanks.
I'd support the board by using the links

That way BR is supported.
I think TW carries Bobby's 3/8 oz Evolution Jig.
Otherwise, I fish 1/2 oz GMAN jigs and Micro Munch Tackle jigs.
8-)
I mostly use Strike King and Booyah jigs.
Terminator Pro Top Secret... :-X
Outcast R.T. and Pro Staff, Mann's Stone Jig, Stanley Finesse, Not sure if they carry Keitech, but my early experience is positive.
J Francho I just got a few Kietech's recently, can't use until next year. I usually fix the trailer to the head of the bait, with a drop of super glue does the trailer stay on o.k.? I do like the compact tungsten heads, should get through the weeds a little better despite the Arkie shaped head. I would appreciate your early impressions of this jig. I also have a question for RoadWarrior on the Micro Munch grass jigs in the 3/8 & 1/2 oz sizes does this jig have a good trailer keeper on it? Thanks.
Evolutions.
I will start using them exculsively in 2009.
They are beautiful jigs.
If you insist on limiting my selections
Strike King Denny Brauer Premier Pro Jig or All Terrain Tackle Grassmaster Jig
Thanks everyone. I have a couple of Evolution jigs and some Strike King Denny Brauer jigs on their way along with a few other things.
You can't go wrong with the evo jig. i love the way the skirt sits forward and paired with a Netbait Paca Chunk it can be deadly.
Do those of you using the Evolution jig spend all of your time fishing in swimming pools?
My favorite jig is a Booyah Baby Boo, but you cannot get them from TW. Other jigs I have done pretty well with are Eakins Jewel Jig, Keitech (they're expensive, but I kid you not when I say they work well) unfortunately I can't afford em at the time :'(. Terminator Jigs work pretty well too.

Do they hang up on every piece of wood on you too?

Wood, grass, rock, stray molecules of hydrogen and oxygen.... :-X
I like Strike king and Stanley

Same here, one was enough for me. Comes with half a skirt and a wimpy weedguard.

All in all I think the jig could be alot better for the price..
The new design of the Evolution Evo2 jigs are awesome. The skid plate isn't as wide as the 1st series and they actually stand up much better.
The finesse models are hit especially this time of year

Not arguing that. But what good is a stand-up jig if it can't get to the bottom without getting hung up?

Haha glad mine aren't the only ones not looking like they do in pictures. On top of the above mentioned my paca chunk seems to bring it down so it doesn't sit upright like it should i think i needed a bigger sized jig?

Exactly, i was very disapointed to see my 8 dollar jigs skirt all messed up and not work as well as some of the cheaper ones i own.
What model of Evo were you saying was a half a skirt. The finesse models were designed with a thinner skirt material for a smaller profile. the heavy cover Evos have 45 strand skirts. When packaged the skirt is turned to one side so it doesn't get hung up in the clasp. Just adjust the skirt evenly around the color and it should be good to go. As for the hang ups>>??? I never seemed to have a problem with them. The new EVO2 Is a totally new creature. That Jig is the total package. Smaller profile- heavy duty flipping hook. Thicker weed guard- $2.00 cheaper per pack. Like I said I never had a problem with the Original Evo. I use them every time I go out. Here is a pic of the EVO2
Let try this
I don't have the EVO2, but the Evolution jigs
and jig heads I have don't hang anymore than
other jigs I fish. I find them to be topnotch and
I highly recommend them.

All Terrain gets my nod! They have several different models to suit your needs.

My experience is the same. I have not found them to hang up in the rocky areas I fish anymore than any other jig that I've used. I bought a bunch of evo jigs when Dick's had them on clearence.
I also like terminator's jigs and GMAN's jigs.

They really don't. The new design is much better as far as fishing cover and the Weed guard has been stepped up as well (Stronger)
You need to take a look at what conditions you are fishing. Rocks, timber, brush, weeds, etc. After that look for jigs that will work the best in those situations. A football head works best in deep water around rocky ledges. For shallow rip-rap and wood an arkie style head with help you from getting hung up. In weeds a pointed head jig with the line tie in the tip will come through the weeds better. The brands are simply personal choices and by all means support forum sponsors, just get the right jig to do the right job.
hey i just buy my own football head jigs (chompers) and get get starflash skirts to go with them. i never buy premade jigs.................................but been wanting to try this evo2 jig out.
give me a good old arkie jig ,,the main thing about a jig is that it has to have a perfect hook SHARP and strong .i did go and buy a few EVO jigs at dicks on sale them jigs are pretty cool never used um before
I always make my own jigs so i get what i want
I use mostly Strike King jigs.
I like a local guys baits D& M custom baits I think you can get them on ebay too.
Which craw trailers do you guys like to use?
Gman, what type of jig/trailer is that on your picture?
My opinions on trailers
Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws 4, 5, & 6"
Zoom Swimmin' Chunk & Salty Pro Chunks in sapphire blue
Uncle Josh #11A Original Chunk & #23 Kicker Frog in blue
Rage Tail Lobster in colors to match jigs
i love the evo jigs
I make my own using the best head/hook I can find. Footballs I use Picasso, All Terrain Tackle, and RT with my own skirts. Picasso heads have the most detail....each head is airbrushed. Gammy hooks are also something I prefer....they are twice as expensive as Mustads, but worth it IMHO.
GMAN, what's the setup in your picture on here? I'm sure it's a gman jig, but which type, and what kind of trailer?

Its a finesse jigs with a zoom craw. Cool huh! Fish catching machine.
Check out GMAN jigs by accessing the www button in his signature.
I highly recommend his jigs!

X2...it's all i pretty much use now.
Plus with his jigs you lose one or two you won't be cussing as much as losing one of those expensive jigs.
I'm a believer in "if your jigs ain't getting snagged you ain't fishing the right stuff". ;D

I'm a big fan of their finesse jigs. I caught more bass last spring on these jigs than any other. I have been wanting to try their grass jigs for some time.
I would start out by buying a couple from as many name brands that you can afford. try them and then find out which one best works for you. Asking for someone else pick is going to get you personal preference not what you need. 8-)
Eakins Jewel Jigs for me

Pick a guy or two that has posted on this thread that you feel
like you know or trust. There are just too many commercial
brands and private pours to truely pick a "best" jig. My main
criteria are: 1. Sharp, strong hooks from an established company
with a solid reputation; 2. "Stand-up" jig head, identical to a
naked shakey head.
As I posted earlier on this thread, I fish GMAN, Micro Munch
Tackle and Evolution jigs. However, the trailer may be more
important than the jig. With all of that, location and the way
a jig is presented trump everything else!

Eakins, Eakins and more Eakins
Try the 'Knuckle Dragger' (football) or the 'Knuckle Buster' (flippin') or the 'Knuckle Head' (round) from Knuckle Down Lures.
Finesse- SK Bitsy Bug and Jewell Eakins
Flippin- Phenix (rubber), Pepper, and Oldhams
Football- Picasso, Omega, and PJ's
Shallow Bank Grass swimming - Lunker Lure Rattle Back Jig
i use the jewel eakins jigs with netbait paca craws/chunks for trailers, works good for me!
