Lets talk buzz baits 2024

fishing user avatarFlippin & Pitchin reply :

The last few afternoons that I have been out I have thrown a buzzbait out when the sun goes down.

The one I have been using is a small Strike King (not sure of the exact model). What are some of the ones you guys use?

fishing user avatarDock Master reply :

    An all black Lunker Lure.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Nothin' to talk about: Cavitron Buzzbaits are THE BOMB!

They produce a unique chirping sound, tremendous bubble trail,

come up immediately and can be fished slower than any other.

This is the perfect buzzbait. I prefer the Cavitron 3/8 oz, black

on black.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Cavitrons.

fishing user avatarFlippin & Pitchin reply :

Fishing 'em slow is one thing I have not been able to do with my tiny strike king.

I will have to check me some cavitrons out.

fishing user avatarFlippin & Pitchin reply :

Another question:

I notice some of the blades are different colors. Any that you prefer or is just kind of a personal choice?

fishing user avatarDOVERANGLER reply :

BOOYAH counter strike amazing action and fish response

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

Cavitron's are the best buzzbaits period.

fishing user avatarhjerk24 reply :

Over rated and over priced in my opinion. Caught just as many on a Walmart Strike King out of the box. Average angler here, fish tournies and get out pretty often. Have fished a few Cavitrons, and no noticable difference in catch rates. They both catch fish, but for the ability to but 2 for the price of one, Strike Kings at Walmart get my vote. I am sure unpopular, but when you're on a budget...if it catches bass most times out...then it's the bait for me. I use the Chartreuse and Red bleeder hook, or the white. I have never had a problem with my reels getting the bait to run smooth, or at a good speed. Let all the haters join in...it's cool. Whatever you have confidence in, is what YOU should be throwing.

fishing user avatarVOL-FISHER reply :

Rattlehead buzzbaits!!!

fishing user avatarhjerk24 reply :

Never heard of them, I'll check them out too.

fishing user avatarKoop reply :

another +1 for Cavitron from me.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

Don't buy into the Cavitron hype.  Lord knows I wasted enough money because of the hype here.  Of the five that I bought, none of them would run upright and all required an extremely fast retrieve to even get a wake, never mind a buzz.  If I wanted something that ran sub-surface, I would have saved my money and fished a spinnerbait.

Strike King, Booyah, etc. etc.  I've grown partial to the various Booyah buzzers over the last couple of years.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

I prefer the double bladed style and believe it or not BPS 4X4 is a great bait. Strike Kings Double Take and Booyahs Bi-You are also good. Best ever were Roland Martins Double Buzzer by Blue Fox. I still have about 10 of them left, Cavitrons are O.K., but the claim of slowest would have to go to a double blade bait by far IMHO.

Well, if you want to pursue it a little further, contact Bobby via PM

or e-mail. For you to have five "defective" when no one else has

mentioned a problem is odd, don't you think? Maybe Bobby will

give you some specific instructions on what needs to be done to

fix the problem with the Cavitron you have. Otherwise, I'm sure

he will replace them for you at no charge. I suspect he might also

include an extra or two!

If you like, I will be glad to help you with this, just drop me a PM.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Original lunker lure here.  Why change when the original still outfishes the rest.   ;)

fishing user avatarSoFl-native reply :

SK Buzzking JR for me. The 5/16th triple wing with a gama trailer hook.

Rises faster and can run slower than any other buzzbait i have used. Including cavitrons.

I've been interested in these for some time now.  The major problem that I have with them is figuring out how to store them!  I use a spinnerbait binder to hold my buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and they won't fit in there.  I fish from shore so tackle that is easy to pack up and carry is critical.

Are these really worth the hassle of finding out how to carry them around?

Here is what I FINALLY settled on for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits:

FTO Wallets.

FTO-1109.jpg

One tip: make sure the skirts are pointed toward the zipper side, and smooth them down before loading them in the wallet. otherwise, the deeper Plano boxes, like the 7080 works OK.

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

I use manns and strike kings no probs with either i do bend the body down some for better hookups

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

I have a bunch of spinnerbaits but none that have that lovely brassy metallic squeal I grew so fond of in one of the baits I lost.  Unfortunately, I can't remember what brand/model it was.  (Don't know if the bass really like it better but in my minds-eye, it seemed to).  Anyway, does anyone know of a buzzbait that makes a really nice brassy squealing sound?

I'm alright with regular buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.  I just use the BPS spinnerbait binders like this.

These buzzbaits

are the ones that I don't want to mess with carrying around.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Those are what I was talking about.  They fit better in the FTO, though you can't carry as many.

Nice.  I just assumed that they wouldn't fit.

Hmm, now I need to go buy at least one of those binders and then some of the dual bladed buzz baits.

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

Cavitron.  they have a longer shank for better hook-up and have a distinctive squeaking (not sure if the squeaking helps or not) bit i like it.   ;)  and i've had more luck with them than any others.

I have a Plano box that I store my Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits in.

http://www.planomolding.com/tackle/products.asp

It has 6 rows of grooved hangers. For the double bladed baits, I just notch the grooves deeper with an Xacto knife and they hang fine.

Might be alot to lug around from shore though. If you can figure out a way, I think you won't be disappointed.

fishing user avataradclem reply :

I use Cavitrons and have never had any issues with them. I also like the War Eagles and Booyahs.

I have one of those.  It now stores my spare spinnerbaits and buzzbaits as it takes up too much space in my tackle bag.

I may have to try the FTO folder.

Don't worry, Bobby... knowing burley, he probably accidentally had them on the rod with his 5.1 cranking reel and couldn't figure out why he had to reel so fast. ;D

If that's not it, he's probably just looking to stir the pot... I can call him a drama queen, he has no incriminating pictures of me. ;)

eta:  Bobby- speaking of fast moving buzzbaits, do you have my 1/2 oz prototypes ready for testing yet?   ::)

Not surprising since praise and hype is encouraged and any criticism is akin to killing babies.

Slowest buzzbait on the market? I tried running them slow, I tried running them slower. Unless I burned the bait faster than I've ever had to reel another buzz, it would never come to the surface. And then, more often than not, when it would finally surface, it would start to roll over.

Don't worry about it, I wasted a bit of money and tried the baits. I gave most of them away, got ticked and threw a couple in the lake.

I guess I didn't remember seeing your posts on them...  no bait is right for everyone.  (I'm still a lunker lure guy... at least until a 1/2 oz cavitron comes out to try)

fishing user avatarBobby Uhrig reply :

Send them back for a full refund-Thats no big deal- as for them not surfacing - I dont know -I have never had an issue and believe me I can take criticism Like I said my response-send them back for a full refund. If anyone else has had this problem or any problem -send them back-Thats how I do business.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

It constantly amazes me how y'all talk name brands when it comes to buzz baits and yet y'all never address the real issue which is blade configuration and head design. Using the same blade configuration and head design in every situation will vastly limit your success with buzz baits.

Longer shafts under certain conditions means missed fish every time

Shorter shafts under certain conditions means missed fish every time

Squealer under certain conditions means missed fish every time

Clacker under certain conditions means missed fish every time

Small blade under certain conditions means missed fish every time

Large blade under certain conditions means missed fish every time

No single combination works under all conditions; we discuss this with every lure mentioned except buzz baits.

Y'all really need to learn about buzz baits ;)

fishing user avatarhjerk24 reply :

Tie on, throw, sploosh!

End of story.

I am at the lower end to have so many different levels of Buzzers.  Walmart out of the box (Strike Kings) have never let me down.  Add on a d trailer hook, and wham...killer lure!!!

(oh no...trailer hook debate coming I presume.....???)

Probably not, it's been hashed over a few times.  Some of us don't use 'em and some do...

Just learn to adapt to the fishing conditions thats all. Do blame the messenger and dont shoot the piano player. If you like a product buy it if not -like Howard Stern says -change the station.

I have several different kinds of buzzbaits that I've never caught a fish on, and then I have a few cavitrons.  They are the only ones I've caught fish with. Coincidence? Maybe.  But I'll just stick to the cavitrons.
