Now that summer is over, what was you single most successful pattern.. Not interested in all the patterns that worked well, just what was your biggest producer??
Mine was the 3.8" Kaitech FAT Swing Impact in smallmouth magic on a Trokar Magnum Weighted Swimbait Hook fished exclusively on a DC 734C/Met HG/Sniper FC 14#.
7" Fat Max ribbon tail worm
Loomis MBR 843C GLX /Chronarch 100SF spooled with 14# Sniper
Almost exclusively ribbon tail worms- all sizes. Went back to fishing like I did in the 80s and it paid off.
1/4 ounce Bagley Shakyhead with a 6 inch Zoom trick worm
Booyah Poppin Pad Crasher. I fished almost exclusively in the evening this summer, so I was throwing frogs alot more than anything else. Best fish this summer was 6 1/2
Knowing when to give up on the shallow cover and move out to deeper drop offs. Carolina rig with a 10" ribbon tail worm in junebug color. Phenix recon elite 796 with 65lb braid and a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. Garmin 9" SideVu and Lowrance hook 9 help a lot as well.

Similar, but different... Knowing when to give up on shallow topwater and start fly-lining soft plastic jerk baits. That pattern was deadly for me early on and continued to produce deep into the summer.

What do you mean by "fly-lining" ?

"Fly-lining" is usually a term where an angler present a live bait with little to no weight. In the case I was referring to it's a Texas rigged plastic without the bullet weight.
ok never heard that term, thank you!

No problem. Glad to help. If haven't already, try it with a "fluke" or a "Senko". At times the results can be spectacular!
I was on a shallow bite all summer .Fishing visible shoreline cover with 8 inch worms and buzzbaits was my best pattern .
Weightless texas-rigged stick worm cast to visible cover.
I know, I know...conventional and boring. What can i say? It works.

Yup. It works and works well. Basically the same pattern I was fishing, except I substituted a soft plastic jerk bait for the soft plastic stik bait.
It's been a consistently inconsistent year for me. Several baits have had their moments. Only one that really has been pretty stable is my trusty homemade bladed jigs.
Strike King Magnum Rage Bug pitched to stick ups outside of the weed edge.
Finesse jigs for me. We had a lot of rain this year and I thought it would make for better fishing with the water being murkier but everything got muddy and there really was no solid bite. The best pattern that I had that was even close to consistent was to fish light 3/16oz and 1/4oz finesse style jigs to isolated cover. I guess I can say there really wasn't a consistent pattern that was present throughout the summer.
Split shot, drop shot and T-rig Roboworms. But others as well.

By far my biggest producer, but also a bigger percentage of my time on the water was dedicated to this technique. A week or two ago I caught a 19" walleye in 2-3 ft in some pads on a 5" senko. That freaked me out.
Did we not just play this ?
Zoom Trick Worm watermelon neon with the tail dipped in Spike It Dip-N-Glo Chartreuse Garlic.
2/0 straight shank round bend hook & a 1/8 tungsten bullet weight.
Pitched to openings in grass & lily pads
Northland Tackle Fatty Tube, blk/blu color, texas rigged with a 1/4 oz tungsten bullet weight.
1.5oz tungsten
4/0 Hack Attack Flipping hook
Strike King Rage Menace
just a little bit of chartreuse JJ's
7'7" H White Ice
65lb Hi Seas Braid
8.0:1 Lews Super Duty
punchrd through heavy cheese mats (which I've never done before) wherever I could find them. It turned a local lake that notoriously stubborn into a big bass factory every trip this year. It worked in multiple lakes. This is now my grass mat go-to.
1/8 ounce shaky head with a 4" finesse worm. 60% of the time fished offshore in 8-18 feet of water, and 40% up shallow on main lake points. 1/16 oz. mushroom head on half of a zinkerz or finesse wormz and a 3/16 ounce buzzbait get a close second.
The Neko rig...
Toss up between cavitron buzzbait (color of choice for the day) and bandit 200 through rip rap and laydowns.
zoom ol monster. candy bug & green pumpkin magic, 1/4 oz tungsten. straight shank 5/0 flippin hook.
fished on sand bar drops near main river channel. btw it's the same every summer.

Question . Do you ever do this on the downstream side of islands ?
definitely a frog i think i caught more fish on a frog this year than in my entire life and it was all because i didn't wait to set the hook
From about March until a couple of weeks ago it was a Keitech Noisy Flapper on top
I'd follow missed strikes with a weightless senko
Or making a second pass of the area pitching/flipping/jerking a bottom weighted senko
Last couple of weeks as the water in my lake is being dropped, I've had to abandon the shoreline and fish deeper points and break lines with a crankbait, jig and a shakey head.
I'm drooling at the thought of following the fish as they migrate towards the backs of the creek channels
This is usually my best topwater action for the year
I think "productive" is an extreme word really but texas rigged 10" ribbon-tail worms flipped into grass edges.
3/4oz slither rig with a boss jigs bluegill skirt and a strike king menace.
Flipping heavy cover
1-4 oz shakyhead with black zoom trick worm
anybody notice a pattern with this thread?
(fish worms in the summer)
I've been asked since I've firmly established #1 what's my #2 pattern
During the day a sk 4" finesse worm( candy craw )on a drop shot with a 3/16 weight on humps. At night a cranberry colored yum 10.5" ribbontail with a 5/16 weight fished around docks and brush and sometimes randomly in the water while picking a backlash lol
gambler 7 inch ribbon tail, texas rigged.weight depended on conditions,3/0 hook. best producer this summer, hands down.
Buzzbait by a pretty wide margin. Which has been great because I love to throw buzzbaits.

I'm surprised that with all the soft plastic choices the old plastic worm smoked em all , combined .
Didn't exactly catch a gang of bass during any outing or all of my outings put together for that matter. Didn't do super bad either. When I did start catching on regular outings, I'd have to say that a Zoom 10.5" Ol' Monster junebug red or red bug color on a 6'6" MF Lew's Carbon Speed Stick IM7 6.2:1 SSG300 Lew's Speed Spin reel with 50lb Power Pro Spectra braid and 5/O H2O Express heavy wire EWG offset hooks, Z-Man original chatter baits 3/8oz white or black and blue with Reaction Innovations sprayed grass sweet beavers or Zoom bait fish Salty Super Flukes as trailers and Z-Man Project Z chatter bait 1/2oz breaking bream with SK Rage Tail Structure Bugs watermelon red flake as trailer on a 6'10" MHF Lew's American Hero Speed Stick IM6 7.1:1 Lew's American Hero Laser AH1SHG Speed Spool reel with 40lb Sufix 832 with Gore performance braid. Here lately those have slowed big time. Now I'm searching for a new and hopefully even better pattern.

You're right about that. Most of the time, not quite all the time pretty close though, a plastic worm of any kind just about will at least get you bit if not hauling in a few. That suites me just fine too...lol. ?

Got my biggest this summer on the jr. booyah ( 7.3 ) Only caught 3-4 fish on it though. Just didnt seem to want it much this summer.
I'm always on shallow all year round no matter bank fishing kayak or boat, so the most productive for me is soft plastic jerkbait.

All the time.
Boyd Duckett Topwater while Walking the Dog. I've caught dozens of bass in the 2-3lb range which is big for around here. Also nearly caught my biggest bass of the year (a solid 6-8lbs) that broke my line off right at the boat.
Dropshot roboworm in bold bluegill.
I had two that were just about even.
1a) Weightless senko (I know a lot of you probably think this is lame, but I just started fishing last year and when I'm not getting bites, I default back to this.)
2a) Texas rigged SK structure bug in green pumpkin
Most of my 5 plus Bass came on topwater baits of some kind. The 3 top producers were a 7" MS Slammer, Matt lures Floating Hard Gill and Whopper Ploppers which accounted for most of my bigger fish .
A majority of the bass I have caught this year have been around vegetation or lily pads. There has been no single bait that has out performed the others. I just keep casting until I find what the bass want.
White Ice Super Flukes. Had a lot of fun fishing them various ways.
Zoom trick worm in Candy Bug weightless to 1/4oz weight. Braid with fluro hybrid leader on BC reel and MH rod. Slow, aroung pads and other thick stuff. Some days Junebug was better.
Rapala Shadow Rap and Shadow Rap Shads in yellow perch pattern for smallmouth along shallow weed edges on rock flats in about 5-6' of water. Spro Bronzeye 65 in midnight walker pattern for largemouth related to shallow docks, lily pads, and stumps.

I am looking to try their new 3.5" fatty tubes
Roboworms 6" in grape and blue colors rigged Texas style. 1/8 to 1/4 oz weight.Zara spook topwater, frog and black shore minnow or buzzbait fished early
Black/Blue All Terrain Grassmaster 3/4 oz Jig + Pit Boss or Megadaddy trailer on a Heavy 7-3 Kistler Helium 3, Sufix 832 and 12 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid leader tied with an FG knot.
Mine was a texas ridged ribbon tail worm or a zoom trick worm shaky head rigged.
