So what are you guys go to early spring crankbaits? Tight wobble or wide wobble? Balsa or Plastic? Small or big? Just wanting to know what your guys thoughts are on this? Trying to get some ideas of some things I can try throwing this spring. Thanks guys.
Shad raps for a tight wiggle is the norm but I have caught fish on a RC 1.5 square bill in 39 degree water in February. Try different baits until you find what works as bass do not read advice posted in fishing forums.

I lke the Arbogast Mudbug fished as slow as I can stand it .
I like square bills(kvd 1.5 and arashi) and lipless cranks(rippin' rap and red eye shad)
I generally like crankbaits with a tight action when it's cold. I fish a lot of flat sided baits, both plastic and balsa.
As the water warms I fish a lot of sq bills, balsa and plastic.
This spring, if you're looking for something new, just a little different and super effective ~

A flat sided mid depth crank is my favorite.

A lip less with a lip nice.
Tight wobble, either balsa or plastic, under 55 deg water I would stay small. But hey I like what tje0705 said, " Try different baits until you find what works as bass do not read advice posted in fishing forums. "

No I wasn't saying it wouldn't work. I was just saying that is what they look like, or seem to me to be a variation of. I'm sure they will catch fish as I love a good lip less crank and these are very similar just a lip difference. .

And there you have it.

My vote goes to a flat sided balsa bait 2-3in. in length.
Shad Rap, lipless, and a square bill if the water gets dirty.
Here it goes, my list of deadly cold water cranks. The Rapala Shad Rap #5 and #7, the Rapala DT Flat 7, Bagley Balsa Shad #5, Storm Wiggle Wart, Bagley Sunny B medium runner, Rapala DT-6, and the Bomber Flat A Deep.

Good Luck and I'd really like to know how you guys do with this bait.
It's been Very Good for me ~
btw - there's another one I'll drop on you later this year after I have some more time with it - but it looks as good or perhaps even better.
Nothing's magic but confidence make the trip so much better

If possible, can you post a size comparison of the 6th sense 75 flat against a LC 1.5 or Spro little john? I need a few non balsa flat side cranks and these have been catching my eye.

Maybe after the Classic coverage.

This lure is exactly what I have been looking for. My little John's catches fish for me, but seems to get out of tune after a number of fish. I like the tradition "squarebill," shape, but with a flat characteristic added in. Thanks A-Jay!

OK ~ here you go
Top to Bottom LC 1.5, 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X, LC 2.0, LC 2.5, LC 3.5

My personal favorite is a Norman Little N in Spring Craw. It runs about 4-6 ft. and in the spring we focus on rocks. On sunny days the clear water lake that I fish at allows sun to penetrate and hit the rocks. Bass hang out around rocks that radiate warmth. That crankbait dives at just the right depth to hit those rocks.
Red Eye Shad lipless, KVD 1.5 squarebills, and Storm Wiggle Warts.
This weekend I got to meet the guy that made this little bait famous. Still works great. Some of you guys that have been around awhile will remember it.
Red eye shad,Rattle traps and KVD 1.5 been working so far.

Looks different than the LC KJ flat. As long as it has a tight wobble it looks like a Winner

I remember when Rick Clunn won on the James river using this bait! I must have bought and lost 20 of them as a teenager.

Got to meet RC this week at the Classic, it was very cool to get to speak with him a minute. Hope the pic brought back some good memories.
I recently got some CP Custom Baits flat sided balsa crankbaits and they are quickly becoming my favorite crankbait for this time of year. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a flat sided balsa. Has a lot of vibration whether reeled slow or fast and is exceptional at deflecting off of cover. Haven't had a durability issue and I have fished them very hard. TW carries them if anyone is interested.
Wiggle wart and shad rap. Very opposite baits, but equally deadly in cold water early in the year. The new Berkley Bad Shad is going to be a good one too I think.
Mudbugs have been my best producing early spring crankbaits . I would like to see them reintroduced with better hook hangers and hooks . I fish them as slow as I can stand it .
Shallow running crankbaits, and lipless baits mostly. Usually if I can fish them around grass, all the better.
I popped one on a Little Johns 50 yesterday, spring craw color.
@Sam
don't overlook the Norman Thin N. a very productive bait this time of year.
Got about 15 on this Rebel Craw last weekend. It's my confidence bait this time of year, but I forced myself to try some other baits after I fished it a whole day and started with it the next morning.

Today
but I also caught fish on xr50 one knocker and xcalibur xcs200s
^ WOW!!!!
Had one choke it this morning too ..: then picked my wife up and she caught her first two for the year on bling 55 which is another solid crank for me this time of year .... But a little secret of mine is I never stop fishing either and catch fish on them even when it's 80 . Don't think flat sided baits are only for winter

I took your advice and got some off tw this week. Weather might make me wait another weekend or two before I can try them out! Looking forward to it, though.

I bought one at the expo. It's a LOUD bait with a nice roll and runs about 2' on 10lb test. I'm very excited about it to say the least.
I bought several 6th sense lures! 75X
Tried out one this afternoon. I ended up catching this little guy the second cast out. Caught another small one shortly after. It was just too windy and cold for me. I'm going back next weekend. I'll try all of the lures I purchased from 6th sense and post the results!
