Anyone excited for these? I cant wait to get some in the shad size and try it. Action looks amazing.
ALSO....is Ike holding a vertias rod in this video?
Looks good but they don't run very deep. Was hoping for a deep diving version. The countdown looks to be my best option.
Yeah, that countdown version should be a great lure. Gives you just another tool in your arsenal. Good design.
I hope the action is as nice as the JDM Ima Waddel Bats. YouTube it if you don't know what I'm talking about. However like all JDM lures they are expensive at $20-25 a piece. I would cry if a Northern Pike cuts off my line and runs off with it.
So I will try these Rapala out. I'm sure in right conditions they should work.
I'm sold. Hopefully the bills on these will last longer than most rapala baits because you don't have to bounce it off of anything to get the hunting action. Looks pretty sweet. I'll probably pick up a few of the normal cranks in the bluegill color once all the hype dies down and they're easily availible. I'm hoping for a deep diver and a wakebait would be EPIC.
Looks like they designed a bait that "hunts" very well something that is usually a flaw that causes a bait to do that. Problem was maybe only one out of twenty actually did what you wanted it to do. This seems to be a cheaper, more dependable choice. I'll bite.
I'm into them......as previously stated, I hope the bills don't have durability issues. I fish a river most of the time, and the smallies will smash these as long as the bill holds up.
Just saw a video on these Rapalas. Not even close as erratic action as the Waddel bat cranks. Still I think it should work. I don't know, Rapalas durability to me seems no different than strike kings cranks but SK seems to not get bad rep. Maybe it's just me.

So you are not familar with that term?
So how will we tell if this is tuned properly?
Count me in to at least try them.
I will pick up a few to give them a whirl. I also haven't broken any rapala bills myself and the majority of time i throw a crank Rapalas are my goto bait.
I am not pre ordering it, I know that much
I'll give them a try but it still feels like you have to work the lure quite a bit. Not so much with the action of your rod tip anymore but rather cadence. I'm not entirely convinced they will be much more productive than anything else on the market, but it's always nice to try new things out.
Anyone know what rod ike is using in the video? Looks like an aby garcia Veritas castging rod no?
here is also another pic of the rods
He uses Veritas quite often and it appears he is in the video. Not sure of the specific rod if that's what you're wondering.
no not specific just wondering is he used the Veritas
must be a pretty epic rod for only 100$ if ike is using it

Ah, thanks for reminding me about the Waddle bats! I was looking at those some time ago.
I'm easy, I'm in. The Bait Monkey is prancing on my head as I post!
Ike has been using the Vertias for a while now. I have a few of them and like them, definitely worth $100
I purchased 3 at the Expo. Im gonna give them a try!
Give it 90 days and get the Lucky Strike, Strike King or other knock off for $5.99.
They were $8 a pop at the Dick's display at the Classic. I picked up 5 or 6. Hope to fish them tomorrow. Something different.

Hey maybe you could tell us how they performed
They were interesting to fish. I fished both a 5 and a 7 model today, both on the same setup. Spinning combo, 6lb FC coated line. It seemed like I needed to keep a pretty decent retrieve speed to get that erratic action, but they definatey danced around pretty good. The 5 could be over powered pretty easy, so it was a bit of a balance to fish it fast enough, but not too fast. The 7 went deeper and seemed to be a little more flexible/easy to fish. Bite was very slow today, and I did not catch anything on the Scatter's. But they did look good, so I have hopes of them paying off when the fish start biting a bit better.
They will use whatever they get paid to promote. Not saying it's garbage but I've heard a lot of gripes about the guides not being in line.On 2/23/2013 at 10:21 AM, WhiteMike1018 said:must be a pretty epic rod for only 100$ if ike is using it
And im pretty sure Ike gets the pick of the litter. Im sure he wouldnt go to the Classic armed with anything that he thought would break, malfunction, or hinder his ability to land fish. (Unless its a trolling motor) jk, i hated that for him, having to deal with TM issues at the classic.

The guides on the micro version have serious QC problems. But once you get a Veritas with good guides, that rod is amazing. DO NOT buy a Veritas without getting to visually inspect it though. I ordered a couple online and had to send 2 back 3 times to get ones with guides that didn't have cracked epoxy, or guides that looked like a drunk on a merry go 'round put them on.
I don't use many cranks because I kayak fish in small water, but the gear monkey is stabbing me right now. And I don't even have a cranking rod or reel!

Seems the gear monkey stabbed you literally....ouch @ your avatar
The idea of a evasive action is nothing new. Salmo Whacky officially was presented during Efftex 2011...

Got a couple on pre-order at Tackle W***. I fish a lot of lakes that don't have a lot of cover to bounce stuff off of. So the erratic action is very interesting to me. We will see what they do. I am also going to be interested to see what the toothy critters think of them.
I think they will be very good options, especially in areas where there isn't a whole lot of cover to bounce off of. I have always had good action on rapala baits and no durability problems.
Toothy critters will most likely force you to buy more
Anyone had much time on the water with these yet? I got curious and ordered some with my points built up on my card. Looks like the shads have shipped but the cranks won't be in until mid April.
I just bought a few of the cranks from our local fleet farm. they had an entire rack full of all the styles. lookin forward to trying them.
I might try them. I'm stuck on the old wiggle warts. They have had that "hunting" action for years...you can pay a pretty penny for the old warts too!!
Really surprised there aren't reviews about this thing, so much expectation I would have thought a couple responses by now. Over here I found them at cabelas but it was too late to throw them

When I get mine I'll do a thorough review. I plan to do some serious SMB fishing around mid April and I should be able to compare them to the shad raps, flicker shads, squarebills, DTs, rattle baits and jerkbaits I throw that time of year. I don't really buy into all the hype, we'll see.
I'm guessing they will best be used with a spinning rod or M/ML casting rod due to their light weight. I've got a ML crankin' stick with a 50e that will probably be my #1 choice. Should be interesting.
if lucky craft or megabass make a bait that "hunts" then we'll see some serious fish catching baits.
rapala should offer a mid range crank, or a "pro/tournament" series with better finishes, colors, detail and construction.
anyone been using them?
I tried twice (shad) but the weather was just too much to get a good feel. It did weave slightly with slow cranking, after that it was too windy to try any more retrieves.
I just bought one of the Scatter Rap cranks today at my local BPS. I'll be at Bull Shoals and the White River all next week so hopefully I'll get to put a few miles on them and have a report when I get back.

touche
I was just playing with them again, burning them in on the retrieve, I like the wider weave when brought in faster.
It's got to be warmer here to get a bass on the faster action, perhaps the pickerel will be enticed
They just arrived at Dicks Sporting Goods. Just bought the countdown Shad in Silver. I will definitely give the a go this weekend!

You might be looking too deep into the word choice there Bobby
A baitfish-imitating lure that moves erratically? Sign me up, I'll give it a whirl.
I have 4 of these and they look awful good to me. The craw pattern is incredible.

Just got back from 5 days of Bull Shoals and Beaver Lake tonight. Spent a lot of time catching fish on swing impacts and A-rigs but I did toss a Scatter Rap a bit with some decent results. It was fished up against a Spro Little John and LC 1.5DD which both failed to produce a strike. I believe I had around a dozen on my Smash colored Scatter Rap and my buddy Jon tossed it a bit when I put it down and caught a few more. Caught largemouth, smallies, and spots on it too and the fish that hit it crushed it. First fish on it was a chunky spot.
Several healthy spots and largemouth ate it off the same point where they were chasing shad. I'd say that it was just because they were actively feeding but they wouldn't eat a jerkbait or a Little Jon at the same location at the same time so it wasn't just that they were feeding. All the spots were feeding very heavily and fought very hard.
The spots seemed to be running into the bait more than they were eating it but the largemouths I caught were knocking slack in my line and choking the bait.
I ground the bait through a lot of rocks and over several laydowns and never lost the bill.
My final review, I like it. It isn't a magic bullet and I won't own them in every color or anything but certainly worth having a couple in your arsenal.
Awesome report. Thanks man
