as the topic states...best jerkbait for around $10.
Smithwick Rogue
X-Rap
Rapala husky jerk, smithwick rogue, bomber long a.
smithwick rogue
Lucky Craft pointers can be found on eBay for around $10...
SPRO McStick is a good one
Might get some hate for this but I only fish two different jerkbaits LC pointers and luckestrike rick clunns but the split rings and hooks must be replaced immediately. I used to spend a lot of money on megasbass Ito's but I think the rick clunns mimic that action pretty well.

It's good, but beware of the paint. Comes off easily. I had the chrome shad color lasted about 2-3 weeks almost all the paint was gone.;( All the jerkbaits that others have listed are good I would also add the strike king KVD.
Smithwick Rogue, go to Cabela's and get their exclusive G-finish Rogue, these are killing it already!!!!

Noticed on the RES that the chrome colored baits seem to scratch and chip a lot more easily. I fish the Blue Bandit and Old Glory, and while they have hook scratches, no problems otherwise.
+1 on the SK Kvd J300 in Ayu. Did very well in the spring with that color. Had pretty good action.
Smithwicks are great too.
Interesting. I might have to try those colors. I mean, they're great jerkbaits action and hooks are great I just had a problem with the paint. Old glory looks like a nice color. On 11/9/2014 at 7:51 AM, aavery2 said:Noticed on the RES that the chrome colored baits seem to scratch and chip a lot more easily. This + X-Rap
X-Rap, Husky Jerk and Original Floater.
My two favorite jerkbaits are both under $10. For shallower water and when I need a more subtle bait I use the Xcalibur EEratic shad. And for mid-depth and otherwise all purpose jerkbaiting, I like the Lucky Strike Rick Clunn RC STX, the larger size. I don't have a problem with the rings or the hooks. I've tried a lot of jerkbaits too, I have used the Mcstick, and numerous LC's including pointer 78 and 100, Staysee 90, the Slim Shad d-7 and d-9, and the flash minnow. But my favorite are the RC STX and the EEratic shad.
Edit: I'd also like to add that the EEratic shad has the same dimensions as the smithwick rogue, The EEratic shad is pretty much Xcalibur's version.
Bomber Long 15A and Timmy Horton Pro Suspending Long A and of course.....The Smithwick Rogue and Yo-zuri crystal minnow and sashimi series.
Dynamic lures J - spec, dynamic lures travado, and an X - Rap.
I have been very VERY happy with the SK KVD's. They are the only "cheap" jerkbait that I have ever had that will suspend perfectly, in a nose down position, with a change to #4 Mustad KVD 1x strong/2x short triple grips, and in cold water to boot. Every other sub $10 bait I have had........... Clunn STX's, Xraps, Rouges, etc.....would take a lot of fine tuning out of the box to suspend once the hooks were changed. The only other bait I like is even cheaper than the KVD, is the Storm Twitch stick. With a change to the same KVD hooks, they suspend pretty good too. With there stock hooks however, they tend to be a slow floater. I also liked the excaliber eeratic shad, but Pradco in there wisdom quit making them when Evers jumped to megabass, and they are getting harder and harder to find. My last few were bit off a couple years ago, and I have just been using the KVD's and Storms ever since.
I haven't used the LC ones but have tried quite a lot and the Excalibur erratic shad always produces the best for me. Rogues and bomber long a and good also. The erratic shad still out fishes them for me.

Thanks for the info, That lure has had my eye ever since it came out, I think I will pick up one, or three.
As said get a used LC SP100
There is also a lot of 6 jerkbaits assorted brands brand new in box's for 25 shipped in the flea market might want to check that out
I do like xraps but I have $3.00 jerkbaits that catch just as many fish. I also have jerkbaits that cost more than xraps, they have not caught any more fish. I'm using the lure that best suites the water I'm fishing on, more interested in the depth. Yesterday I fished a shallow pond, the original Rapala floater worked well, my xrap went to deep.

The Storm Twitch stick is becoming a favorite of mine and it is cheap! I find the size 10 suspends pretty decent but the smaller size 8 I went with the exact same KVD Triple grips 2X short 1X strong and it suspends well now.
You can find a new 100SP in chartreuse shad (good color too) for exactly $10 shipped on another board. Either the 100SP or the 112MR would be a good choice for all-around largemouth fishing.
we absolutely kill the walleye on the husky jerk during the spawn up here around Green Bay man! Love it!!!On 11/9/2014 at 6:09 AM, Dwight Hottle said:Rapala husky jerk, smithwick rogue, bomber long a.
I purchased some Storm Twitch Sticks at Dick's when they first came out and they said "Suspending" but they are now one of my favorite floaters as they didn't suspend the slightest. I was not upset with the purchase as the baits have a great action and for the price they look really good. I may have to try the newer models as I like the size and shape. I also like the Price, although I find my Rogues and Bombers suspend quite well without changing the hooks, but alot of suspending has to do with water temps and line as well. I have a few Pointers that didn't suspend out of the package but last week when I tried the same one again, it was suspending and I didn't change anything. I think all batches of lures made at different times behave differently.
Another vote for the RC.
Husky jerks, BX minnows
Luck E Strike RC Stix, Mcstick, Erratic Shad.

$11.50 at TW also at THUT, and 12.50 at another site. Look outside of Bass Pro for your tackle.
Strike King KVD & Rapala X rap for that price range though my favorites are made by Ima, Megabass and Lucky Craft .

Excuse me?
I don't mind paying a bit more from Bass Pro at times(although I think they have a price match but I have never found them to be higher than most, they tend to carry the newest of everything as well) I still like to read Newspapers, and I still love a Bass Pro Catalog. I like fishing magazines but what is better than the new Bass Pro Catolog every year???????

You made the post saying that my recommendation was not relevant because the bait was 14.99. Evidently you made no effort to find out that they can be had for at many places for much less. I didn't want to make it really bad and tell you that Gander Mountain has them on sale for 8. Bass Pro is about the only place I know of that charges as much as 14.99 for them.

Not seeing where I posted anything regarding you. But I do see your classless reply about looking outside of BPS for my tackle. If you would like to share online discounts on tackle and share it with the rest of us go for it!
I see where your confused, Basshunters post was a reply to me, after I had recommended the McStick as a good jerkbait in the 10 dollar range. You replied to Basshunter and indirectly to me saying that they were also 14.99. My reply was then to you saying that they could be had for 11.50. I meant nothing negative about my BPS reply, I just know that you have one near you in Olathe and they were the only place on-line that I seen selling them for 14.99. They can be had most places including Mondo tackle for 11.49 regular price not discount. Gander Mountain however does have them on sale for 8 dollars.

I actually miss Gander Mountain, I still have a few of their pro guide reels that when on sale are only $19.99
Back to the topic at hand here, in eastern Kansas, a lot of us fish for smallmouth and largemouth so it is good to have both a larger and smaller bait and the Luck E Strike RC stix is great for that. I have found their smaller version to be a little inconsistent with suspending, but as with many jerkbaits, they can be altered to get the desired float/sink rate. My suggestion would be to get a couple different shapes to cover different actions (subtle wobble to more erratic darting).

What colors you liking in the RC Stix baits?

I like the Twitch sticks, too. Both suspending (Size 10) and floating (Size 8). They are cheap and have great action and a lot of good colors. I've had the best luck with Firetiger and Bluegill. Cheap enough that if you lose one, you don't give it a second thought..(unless you're catching fish on it that day!!)

I bought several of these when they first came out, I was having a heck of a time trying to tune them. Might have to purchase a few and try again. Do you do anything to yours to get them to suspend differently?

Nope....haven't really had much trouble with them, i guess. I just accept that the smaller ones are floaters. As I've seen others say, bigger trebles or a suspend dot would do the trick. I've paid so little for them at Dicks Clearance sales that I've never really cared and I've caught plenty of fish with them.

For clear water (5-6' visibility here) it is hard to beat french pearl or pro blue. In muddier water, I tend to use a different brand only because I haven't found many "muddy water" colors with the RC Stx. Then again, jerkbaits seem to work better in clear water typically.

You doing anything to modify the baits, or do you find that they suspend good out of the box?

With the RC Stx, I typically change the hooks and split rings keeping the sizes the same. Where I go from there depends on the individual lures. Some suspend great others I may alter by adding a bigger hook or split ring to get it to suspend nose down. That is the only downside of the Stx that I have noticed is their inconsistencies.

I experienced a little inconsistency in their baits during the initial release, I had a heck of a time trying to tune a few of them. During lunch I had a few errands to run, so I stopped by the tackle shop and picked up a Pro Blue and a French Pearl, I look forward to giving them another go. Thanks for sharing.

Not a problem at all. The most difficult is figuring out how they want it worked!

French Pearl is hands down my favorite color at Melvern.
