Really looking forward to throwing this one around as soon as it comes out.
The versatility & ability to come through cover better dictated a pre-order.

Been watching for it as well. Big bladed jig fan since I started throwing them. The versatility in skirt options, trailers, and even in your retrieve options, is now INCREASED to allow for even better access through heavy cover to include wood. Pretty excited.
AND . . . It's now Available for purchase at TW.
How's that for timing ?
Snooze you loose

I am looking on TW now, and do not see it under the bladed jig section Disregard, I founded it
Let's hope the eyelet is properly closed on these

I'm not sure if I've just been really unlucky, but with some of the original chatterbaits I had a few problems with the body flying off on the cast leaving only the blade and snap behind.
Add this to my list .
Hmmm... I've never experienced that. However, I've never used an original chatterbait. I didn't get into chatterbaits until I got some Project Z's. Perhaps there was a defect? I'm not sure. But with mine now, I've had nothing but quality products. I guess I can't speak in regards to their original chatterbait but like all products; fishing related or not, there will be occasional flaws.
I do however believe that Z-Man has proven themselves to the point where trying their lures are worth it. In the end, I think that's what we come to expect from a company. If there's a flaw, fix it. If not, you sink. Competitive advantage is a must in an industry where everybody and their brother makes lures. Again, I feel Z-Man has done right but the few complaints I've seen and have garnered my business from that.
Ordered. Thanks for the heads up A jay
just curious do you guys like the 1/2 oz? All my bladed jigs are 3/8

I own three 1/2 oz's. Not a single 3/8. To me, the difference in 1/8oz can be made up on retrieve rate or patience.
Maybe that's just me?

Thank you for the response- The head on this bait is made by Freedom. I have several of their other model heads. The only problem I've had with them is that they are constantly getting stuck deep in big bass mouths.

I like the 3/8's for the majority of my vibrating jig presentations (down to about 8-10 ft) and the 1/2 for any deeper stuff.

Before this post I had never heard of freedom, or there independent head design. Looking at some of there other skirtless jigs. Anyone used the hydra hybrid jig?

Yes - and it's Killer.
Extremely versatile.
A-Jay
Awesome thanks again man
I own mostly 3/8 jigs and some 1/4 since I mainly fish then shallow and often faster than most people like to do....I use the 1/2 ounce when fishing fast since I can cover more water...
The original Chatterbaits that were Pre ZMAN and made by Rad or Renosky or at that time when they had a ton of various versions I had issues with snaps and the eye holding up. If you ever see a sale on Chatterbaits by Z-Man make sure they are not over 10 years old or one of the first batches since I think some may have been defective and the snaps if you compare them to the regular Chatterbait being offered now is clearly cheaper...The regular chatterbaits for $4.99 now have snaps that are better and stronger..
I think they changed them 4-5 years ago? Not sure...The new chatterbaits are all constructed with top components and I think like all lures they fixed and improved on the original which works fine...
You can always change your snaps if nervous to a better quality one if you feel it is not strong, I think the new ones use the KVD sytle snaps...I use ones that a member made for me and then the original ones and the booyah and Poison jigs still....Then I have added blades to regular swim jigs and it works fine...
If only Eagle Claw would have marketed the Eaker Shaker much better they would be making some money as they were selling these blades in the 80's...
Looks good. I haven't had any luck with a bladed jig yet, but I'm not giving up. Ordered some from Siebert but my next TW order I will order some of these. I like those freedom jig heads. I used them with swimbaits first time and did well. Don't order to heavy because they sink quick. Lost a couple in some rocks and trees but that's were bass hang out. I just think if I was using a little lighter I wouldn't have gotten stuck as much. Thanks for the heads up A-Jay good luck
ahhhh...I just had to order some. ajay is usually on the money. chatterbaits are fish catchers.

What ? How the heck did you get them before me ?
It has been a little cold here - maybe the Bait Monkey's Banana Frozen. That would slow him down some.

Cold? I'm just a tad South lol! I'm not going to lie though, I received my confirmation of order and then 30mins later, received my confirmation of shipment. It was the fastest I've ever experienced. I only did priority mail too, not overnight or 2 day.

A-Jay, what chatterbait colors work best for you? I am just starting to get into using them more..

There are a ton out there - many of them work.
It may be more about where, when & how they are fished than which one is used.
I've deliberately kept my arsenal small; only really thrown two.
I've had success with the SK rage blade and the Z-man Project Z.
Both in 3/8 & 1/2 ounce - 3/8's gets most use.
Swimbait & Shad Profile trailers are all I use.
Although I haven't fished it yet (just got them today), I have a feeling this Freedom head model may be a game changer.
More to follow

Thanks... I have been using the swimming senko as a trailer...
You didn't ask me BUT...
Depending on the lake I fish, the trailers have alternated on my Project Z's or Swagger Jigs. It's either a Keitech swimbait or a variation of craw. The one Lake I fish has a heavy craw presence so it makes sense. The other has a TON of bluegill so I use the BG colored Keitech easy shiner swimbait. But honestly, the swimbait on a bladed jig... just looks good!!
I just got my freedoms yesterday so we shall see (got a variation of colors this time). However, my previous bladed rigs have ALL been white or white/chartreuse and they've produced. Whether it was the color or not - or more the trailer, I don't know.
I'm new to bladed jigs (this year) and they've quickly became my #1 toss. Usually, I never pick up my other three rods ( I only have 4 :/ ).

@A-Jay, have you used your freedoms? Im interested to hear your take. I did fish for an hour lastnight and caught my first bass on it as well as my first bass with a baitcaster..
Didnt fish it enough to formulate a review.
I am very interested to see reports on these, especially how they come through weeds and wood. I have begun fishing chatterbaits a lot recently and have already lost more then I like to wood and brush. In addition, a lot of the areas I fish are not grass as much a mix of grass and pads, and the normal chatterbaits get snagged on the pad stems a lot.

The one lake I fish has this same problem. I plan on going out tonight for longer than was lastnight so I will hopefully be able to come back and let you know what I think.

What size swimbait trailer are you using on those A-Jay? Heaven forbid if I possibly miss out on a hot bait as I have 2 coming. That bluegill color should work pretty well up here in the north in the next few weeks.

For me, it's all about the 4" Keitech Easy Shiner in BlueGill. Yup!
I love a D&M chatterbait. They come with a perfectly matched trailer that matches color of it. 3/8 oz over shallow grass flat and hold on tight

I have not fished them yet ~ New boat should be ready tomorrow - so hopefully I'll be wetting a line this weekend some time.
As for trailers I like the LFT Magic Shad Boot Tail - the 4.5 inch model as well as several different other boot tail swimbaits including the Skinny Dipper, The Zooms baits job, the SK Caffeine shad and the Berkley Havoc Grass Pig.
My newest addition to that line up of trailers and one I'll be starting out on the this new Freedom head is the Z Man Razor Shadz ~
btw - that SK Rage Swimmer looks like it has All Kinds Of Potential as a trailer as well.

What makes for a good chatterbait day? I assume some wind. Do you like cloudy, sunny or doesn't matter?
I use them all the time but would use a swim bait by itself in really clear water. I opt for the chatterbait in stained water because of it's ability to call em in from a distance. They make a lot of turbulence in the water

While purposefully being designed to displace a lot of water; which is great for any stained water, I use this first and foremost in any condition and then adjust if need be - which is rare. A chatterbait just works lol

What kind of rod are you using? I envision using my Dobyns Fury 733C. Thats a medium heavy? fast action. I'm recently transitioning alot of these techniques to casting gear. I used to be 90% spinning gear.

I'm honestly not the best guy to ask that. I literally just got my first baitcaster. I currently throw my chatterbaits, spinner baits, etc.. on a Lews SS Spincast 6:4:1 w/ Ugly Stik GX2 MH-Mod Action rod.
I did catch my first bass on the new Freedom lastnight (first bass on my baitcaster too). It was on my new Abu Vengeance MH-Fast Action Rod with a Black Max 7:1 Baitcaster. I wasn't trying to catch anything, more practicing with the new baitcast setup.

We'll that's good news. Maybe that lure is that good I can always use an edge in my club events.
Just received a couple to try this weekend.

And D&M came out with this design 2 years ago (maybe more), in fact I 2 of them I just haven't used much. I like Zmans Elite series chatterbiats I have never had a quality issue with them. I prefer to swap out the skirts and use white & Chartreuse and hold on.

Hey A-Jay,
Any update on how they worked and what were the best producing trailers you tried?
Got a chance to use the new freedoms this last weekend. I used a swim senko for a trailer and it worked really well. Seemed to have much more thump to it than my other solid head bladed jigs, could really tell on the medium rod I was using, had the whole rod vibrating as I reeled it in.
Only caught 2 bass on it. Was a slow day. Had a dink slam it and the other bass about a pound hit while I was dragging it slowly and I only knew it was on when it quit vibrating.
Also through it around some lay downs that came way out in the river and it came through everything really well. Never had a snag. It even pulled out of a tree I threw it into on the bank. I believe this will be my only bladed jig from now on minus a few customs I have mainly for color.
Great looking bait no doubt! - gunna have to try a few
