Would like some suggestions for a 1/8-1/2oz rod.
I've used Zoom Super Flukes and Biwaa Tail Gun-r without much luck. What about Keitech Swing Impacts? Any others to consider?
I love using the Keitech Fat Swing Impact in bluegill flash color!
Hard to beat the Keitech baits. Some of the hollow bellies aren't bad but they just don't stand up well when the fish are really on the bite. I prefer the Fat Swing Impacts myself.

How do you prefer to rig them? I assume Texas-rig? Unweighted?

on a swimbait hook is normally the best or on the back of a swim jig or bladed jig
Keitech Swing Impact Fat
Rage Tail Swimmer
Lake Fork Magic Shad (regular and boot tail)
Best 3 swimbaits out there.
reaction strike chunky shad
strike king rage tail swimmer
keitech swing impact fat
Jackall Rythm Wave has become my favorite. The holo black color is killer.
I fish the swing impact fats quite a bit too - as someone already mentioned above, bluegill flash is great and has been my most productive color in that bait.
Keitech!!
have any of u all used the eco pro keitech like baits??
Keitech Swing Impact Fat
KVD Swimmin Caffeine Shad
Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper

Yep. Not a Keitech.

These are great for swim jig trailers.
Try the swimming fluke jr.
I tried the Storm GT 1/8 oz swimbait this year and have had good luck with it with both largemouth and smallmouth. 3 in a pack and one is already rigged on jig head. I have caught 20 plus bass on one bait with a few pike thrown in before having to replace. I am going to try bigger sizes later in year. I like it because it is easy to rig. I seem to have a hard time rigging things straight!!
A lot of good suggestions here for baits as they cover what I use. I would like to add that the 4/0 Owner weighted hook below works great for these baits. The weight is just enough to keel the bait and if you need more weight just use a bullet sinker.

I haven't had luck with any swimbaits. Hard, soft, hollow, whatever. That hasn't stopped me from buying a ton of the d**n things...
I just got a couple of packs of Yamamoto Heart Tails, they look awesome, and don't feel as fragile as a senko... I can't wait to throw one for half a day and not get a single bite.
PS - I know the prob is me - I'm not patient, I swim them too fast, or don't use them at the right times.

Well since you don't plan on catching any fish with them it doesn't matter, but they are just as fragile as senkos. Buy a bottle of mend it, if you decide to use them to catch fish, that is
I caught a few on a reaction skinny dipper this evening, what size keitechs are y'all using?

My favorite weighted swim bait hook!

We actually have a few of those and they work great - I love hooks with the corkscrews on them.
Unweighted for senkos (sometimes weighted) as well as creature baits, soft craws, etc.

What color are you using and in what water clarity?
Try swimming them just fast enough to keep the action working. Occasionally kill it and let it fall before picking it back up again.
For me they are pretty much a "sure thing" bait in any body of water I fish.
I love the reaction innovations skinny dipper, little dipper and big dipper depending on the bite. I've caught quite a few smallies and some largemouths on a little dipper. The largemouth were on a highly pressured lake where most guys throw worms and creatures. When nothing else worked I tried the little dipper and that was the ticket. I love fishing the statutory grape and sexy shad colors. Statutory grape seems to be the hottest one for me in PA. Imitates a lot of baitfish colors. Most of my fishing has been on some ball head swimbait jigs in 3/16 and 1/4 oz. that my local pro shop makes, but I just ordered some VMC Ike approved swimbait jig heads to try out. They are due in tomorrow and hopefully I can try them out this weekend. I've also had success fishing the dippers t-rigged weightless. It all depends on where the fish are and how they are biting. I went fishing with my neighbor this past Saturday and he threw a little dipper and a couple of smallies completely choked on it.
Rage Swimmers and Bass pro shops speed shad really surprised me.Speed shad has great action.
I like the reaction innovations product line for trailers on my swimjigs and chatterbaits and then I will use a Keitech on a-rigs because they make a good pulse when you pump the a-rig in deep water. The big EZ is a great single to throw...I also will use the big EZ as the center bait on my a-rig when I am burning it a little faster. The yum money minnow is still my favorite to use except for trailers. Compared to shadalicious I have less prep time in skinning the whole bait and ill get maybe a couple more hook ups out of a money minnow. With a money minnow I can pull the two tabs of rubber out of the split belly and be on my way......... I don't need to spend a whole day to skin down 2 packs of shadalicious.
Keitechs, and I recently bought some smash tech baits that look very promising. I can't wait to try them so I can officially say yay or nay, but they look good and I like the consistency of the plastic. Probably tear easily but that's ok if it's done by fish.
Skinny Dipper
Big EZ
Gonna try Rage's when I run low on either one.
Mike
Do the Keitech's work well as followers on a jig? I've got a 1/2oz rod - what jig would you suggest for a Keitech? Something in the 1/4oz range I assume?
The support person over at TW suggested Revenge Swimbait Hedz with a 3.8" Keitech.
I'm going to give the Eco's a whirl. Cabela's had them on sale for $2.50 a pack so I bought a ton of them.. seem to be a pretty legit Keitech clone? I'm going to use them for chatterbait/spinnerbait trailers.
I just put on a 10" Storm Kickin' Minnow (Rainbow Trout Color) and I'm gonna waste my afternoon throwing that today. I'll try and give a report on it in the morning. It's a bit of a long shot, but you never know.
I have good luck with the 2 inch Mister Twister Sassy Shad on a 1/8 ounce jig head. That is my go to bait when things get slow.
The first boot tail small swimbait was the Sassy Shad back in the 70's, still a good Shad small swimmer. Brass Trix paddle tail hollow body was the first of this type of swimbait and still the top choice in the hollow bodies. Small soft plastic swimbait the first is debatable either Worm King or Kelp Critters that date back into the late 60's, both gone today with Big Hammer still in production and another good choice. The All Amercian Trash Fish was the original small life like swimbait before being knocked off by Berkley Sick Fish, the Trash Fish is still a good choice.
Kietech came out with A-rig thin body swimmer to fill that void and expanded into several small swimmers and a good choice. The Hudd Shad and Gil are both highend small soft plastic swimmer. Lake Fork came out with the segmented Shad swimmer and other have followed.
I don't consider anything under 6" a "swimbait" to me they are soft plastic minnows or shad. I use them when bass are school feeding on small size bait.
History lesson, sometimes I get carried away.
Tom
Incidentally and not for nothing, a zoom fluke is a soft jerkbait
Happily, there's a generous array of very effective paddle-tail minnows:
> Gambler Big EZ
> Reaction Innovation Big Dipper
> Keitech Swing Impact Fat
> Basstrix Paddle Tail Swimbait
> Jackall Rhythm Wave
And the list goes on

But the swimming fluke is a paddle tail swimbait...
is a money minnow a good one?

In my opinion, it is not a good one.
I want to see robust tail-waddle to a near standstill,
and that's where a lot of paddle-tail minnows lose the ball,
when it counts the most.

Rolo, Me too on a Alabama Rig! You got a bait name?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand your question.
Are you asking about soft swimbait brands for an umbrella rig?

Yes, please if you fish em

I'm sure I've put a few hundred miles on umbrella rigs, but that was in the ocean,
it was all trolling (no casting) and the baits were simply surgical tubing threaded on long-shank hooks
If you're looking for a soft swimbait with nonstop tail-action to a near standstill,
I would reiterate the same baits I mentioned above; 3 in particular:
> Jackall Rhythm Wave (the vertically compressed body, foregoes flank-rigging)
> Gambler Big EZ
> Keitech Swing Impact Fat
