I know this has been brought up before, but since im new to throwing crankbaits,I want to find out what everyones personal favorite is in a crankbait.
I just dont know why but im stuck on the Bomber/Bill Dance Fat Free Shad Family. I dont know if its because thats the first crank I threw and had success with or if its the different sizes for different applications these baits offer, but I just love em.
I have caught 1 fish on a Tennesse Shad colored Strike King series 4,but the Fat Free Shad family just gets it for me,at this point in my early crankbait experience.
The bomber family of crankbaits are my personal favorites. If i had to narrow it down to just one it would be the flat A.
IMO Fat Free Shads are a fine bait to be hung up on.
Norman Deep Little N, or the Little N. Love the Mad N as well.
Shallow favorite : Lucky Craft RC 1.5
Mid favorite: Rapala DT 6
Deep favorite: Norman DD22 (if I keep catching fish on the Spro Lil John DD it might overtake it soon)
Lucky Craft RC 1.5. Sure it costs more than others, but it outperforms all other shallow runners.
My favorite is the Rapala Shad Rap. I use lots of the others in different shapes , color and the dept that they run. But seems for me the Shad Rap will produce when others will not.
Zoom WEC Sweet Pea.
Rapala DT 4
Bandit 100 series
H20 express
Spro little john

I dig the Norman line of cranks.
Big M SB1
Its a lipless crankbait. but the Rapala Clakin' Rap
Impossible for me to have one favorite because cranks are my go to bait and you need many to cover different depth ranges...
0-1' Baby 1 Minus
2'-4' Lucky Craft RC 1.5 (Silent)- I love this bait, okay this is my favorite
6' Rapala DT 6
7'-9' Storm Wiggle Wart
10' Rapala DT 10/ Lucky Craft RC 2.5DD
10'-13' C Flash 44 Mag
12'-15' Bandit 700 Series
14'-16' Jackall Muscle Deep 15 Plus
15'-19' Strike Series 6XD
Lipless- Strike King Red Eye Shad
Spro Aruka Shad
Sebile Flat Shad
Primus...you said the RC 1.5 (Silent)....
Why not the rattling version???
Probably due to the fact that I fish a lot of clear water and the bait seems to send out the right pressure waves to call out bass. I've also done well with the larger sizes (2.5 & 3.5) using it at night. If you haven't tried these yet BPS usually has them on sale a couple of times a year for about $10 which is when I usually pick up a few.
My very first "hot crankbaits" were and still are;
Lure
Rapala orginal floater blue #7 (nicknamed bluemax)
Rebel popr blue
Manns baby 1 minus Browncrawdad (plain not shiney)
(This is nicknamed the Hank Parker special because we first seen him use it in NH on tv.)
Bomber cranks
darkbrowncraw
redcraw
darkgreencraw
firecraw
silvershad
firetiger
Some bomber colors/sizes are being discontinued.
Norman Thin "N" cranks
Reddear
Bluegill ect there all hot
BPS TOPnocker in chartruese
Of all time would be the original Cordell Big-O that came out in the early 70's. I caught a ton of fish on those.
My favorite to use now would be the Mann's 1 minus in Brown Crawdad. That lure seems to work anywhere.
So I have heard about the + series from Manns.Like a 10+ would dive 10+ feet. What are the Minus series of baits, how does the - get incorporated in with the number?
Man this a tough one. I really like Lucky Craft and Zoom W.E.C crankbaits, but the only bad thing is that they are really expensive so I don't have many of them.
Also, the Spro Little John series is quickly climbing the list.
Bandit 100's and 200's, Strike King series 1 and 3, and for super skinny water Manns Baby 1 Minus.
I really don't do alot of crank bait fishing since I shore fish alot but I think a DT6 in silver shad is always lethal....
Rapala DT series, but if i only had one crankbait for the rest of my life it would be a Norman deep little N in redear.
QuoteLucky Craft RC 1.5. Sure it costs more than others, but it outperforms all other shallow runners.
My most productive crank by FAR.
QuoteMy favorite is the Rapala Shad Rap. I use lots of the others in different shapes , color and the dept that they run. But seems for me the Shad Rap will produce when others will not.
isn't that considered to be a jerk bait??

Thanks...I forgot about the clear/stained/muddy waters where rattles aren't needed in clear.

No. http://www.rapala.com/products/lures/shad_rap/
QuoteShallow favorite : Lucky Craft RC 1.5Mid favorite: Rapala DT 6

--almost exactly the same for me except I like the Lil john DD better for deep cranks.
Throw in Rapala Clackin Rap for real deep. They're heavy and I can cast 'em a mile too.
Any Normans, Speed Traps and Hot Lips. The YoZuri hard core is a sleeper.
Lipped : Rapala DT 6 in bluegill
Lipless : Yozuri Rattl'n Vibe in 5/8oz in baby bass
BigBassChaser I forgot about the Yozuri Rattlin' Vibe, great bait and I like the Ghost color. The Bluegill DT6 is another great bait and color.
Bandit 300 series
QuoteBandit 300 series
That's a winner!
Pick up a couple of 200s, too.

Norman Fat Boy
Bandit 200
Bomber Fat Free Shad
Strike King 1XS has been my most successful crankbait this year.
WEC Wobbler
Marty Burns, here on the forum, custom cranks ;D
Jawjackers custom cranks
Flat shad baits custom made
Bomber model 6a redfire craw
The original Charlie-O, or (and much more easily attainable) BigM's version of the bait.
original Charlie(urethane foam)
Marty's Charlies
Zoom WEC Deep Stumpy
Zoom WEC Z-Flat Coffin Bill - one of the finest clear-water flatsided baits you will encounter in life.
Any of the good Little Petey clones (this one's a Ron-E-Bee)
My own version of a mid-teens diver is actually my favorite deep diver.
This bait is compact, flat-round hybrid, casts very well, cranks very easily, and can bust almost 18' if you know what you're doing.
Supermag
Cool stuff Stringjam and Skilletsized Bass I always look forward to your post, one of my projects this winter is to pick some of these handmade cranks that you've reccomended. Question guys, have you tried the C Flash cranks and what do you think of them ? I've been having success with the 44 Mag, popular crank in our part of the country despite the $22 pricetag.
Rapala Glass Shad Rap for shallow and mid-deep. It has been the most productive lure I have ever used and is always my producer when everything else fails!
Matt
I target alot of bushes and brush in 4' - 8' of water. The Timber Tiger DC8 gets the nod most of the time. I fish it on 17 or 14 lb line. If I'm sitting in 12 to 20 feet of water and throwing at a dropping bank, I'll use a Timber Tiger DC13 or DC16. If I threw cranks around areas where there wasn't so much brush cover, I'd probably throw different brands, but the Timber Tiger comes through brush cover real well, and that's primarily where I'm fishing now.
I'd have to say that my "old reliable" is a FR05 in Silver/black. After that, I'd go with a Strike King series 5.
How can I order one of those BigM cranks? That looks sweet!

He's a forum member....check out Tacklemaking to see what he's up to.

You will NOT regret them! I think that's the only crankbait I'll shell out Over $10 for so far.You might end up on a waiting list...but believe me I waited almost 2 months for mine and it was definitely worth the wait. Order them over the winter time so they'll be ready just in time for spring.
I have two of them just for show boating in my tackle room and people just drool over them.
My favorite was always a Bomber Model A. This year i started throwing a Strike King KVD series 5 crank in chart. sexy shad and have not looked back at the model A. This crank flat out catches fish.
+1 for BigM's baits, great guy and quality baits! I'd recommend searching his archived posts to get an idea of popular models and color schemes.
For me it is just one of these and one of those. I think I have a favorite from just about every manufacturer.
Norman Fatboy!
i would have to say Stike King crankbaits , you just have to change out the hooks (i change them out for Owner ST-41's ) . they produce and are easy to get replacements if you lose one or two . i also like Bomber crankbaits , again change out the hooks !!! gonna try some Lucky Craft cranks soon here , hope they are worth the extra $$$ :-?
QuoteNorman Fatboy!
Yes, and Strike Kings and Bombers!

I suggest that if you try Lucky Craft cranks go with the RC 1.5 Silent (Bass Pro Shops exclusive), fantastic bait. They sometimes have them on sale for about $10. Another japanese bait that has done very well for me is the Jackall Muscle Deep 15 Plus.
Rc 1.5 is one of my favorite shallow cranks. definatley worth the money.
I am a big fan of the DT series
