Since I am looking to get into Fluke Fishing, I want to know everybody's opinion on fishing different types of flukes. Do you prefer paddle tail styles ( Yum Houdini Shad) or split tail styles (Zoom Super Fluke)? Also, what size do you like them in? And what type of colors do you prefer? Natural colors, like silver, or colors that stand out such as firetiger?

×2! Throw in a few packs of bubble gum for pre spawn fish. Flukes not the kind you chew.
It wouldn't hurt to try a pack of caffeine shad and Ike the jerks. I have two packs of Yamamoto d shads that I can't wait to try.
For flukes I like 3 colors. White, Black and Green.
Sluggo invented it, Zoom perfected it. Zoom made it work. (And I know the company was not named sluggo, I just don't remember what company)
Havoc The Jerk is what I fish most now. I used to fish the YUM Houdini Shad but not sure they make them anymore?
Yamamoto D shad & Caffeine shad. Pearl white, white w/silver back, & watermelon red fake.

Lunker city. slug go's worked great and still do to this day.
I'm glad to see Lunker City get the credit they deserve for the Slug Go.
BTW the 3" version makes a real good drop shot bait.

I'll agree with the Slug go. I still use 'em. White and perch colors.
9" Sluggos for stripers in the surf

I fish a Zoom super salty fluke in pearl white 90 percent of the time, the other ten it's a green pumpkin Creme, sometimes with tail dyed chartreuse with spike it. Usually weightless with a 4/0 or 5/0 hook.
Zoom Salty Super Fluke in baby bass on a 3/0 ewg
Big fan of Super Flukes and D-Shads, here. Super Flukes because they're cheap and everywhere, and D-Shads because they cast super far rigged weightless. Both catch fish like mad.
The slug-go is literally THE bait that got me back into fishing. Love Lunker City too!On 3/3/2015 at 5:18 PM, Will Wetline said:I'm glad to see Lunker City get the credit they deserve for the Slug Go.

If you like the original, try the Slug-go SS. It's the same darting front but with a fine whiptail- suuuuuper finessey and stays in the strike zone a very long time with a sashaying motion that works great. It's my go-to "skunk beater" bait in the summer. Super durable too! Ayu, white and methiolate are probably my faves.
Also fwiw the guys down at LC are great people and if you buy direct they often give you free gifts! I've gotten a fistful of packs of their drop shot weights for free because I bought a bunch of the 4" originals, and they almost always throw in a pack or two of something else no matter what the order is. They appreciate their customers for sure!
Sorry for the thread drift haha... Slug-gos never stopped working for me though! Must say- that new Mann's jelly fluke looks amazing though!
I was hammering river smallmouth in 1988 with a Slug-O and it is still great, in fact the Slug-O and the Fluke are 2 different baits. That said my favorite is from a small manufacturer, River Rock Baits Jointed jerk and Case Plastics Sinking Salty Shad, both stay down better so they can be worked faster but the River Rock bait is pure money, nothing has been able to get fish to bite like that bait has.

When I throw a fluke 80% of the time it's these.
Then a watermelon red or a plain watermelon (don't remember what they call them)
Mike
My favorites in order:
#1 Havoc The Jerk
#2 SK Caffeine Shad
#3 GYCB D-Shad
#4 Zoom Super Flukes
#5 Big BIte Baits Jerk Minnow
Definitely the SK Swin'n Caffeine Shad.....
I picked up a couple bags of Missle Baits Shockwave's though this winter, I'm looking forward to trying them out
Zoom Super Fluke in White Ice or Bait Fish. Both are killer for me.
Zoom Super Fluke
Lunker City Fin-S Fish
Grandebass Flash
Pour my own since none of the ones on the market sink like I want them to. The other two baits I use are a Zoom super fluke and some leftover Kinami prototype baits.
Allen
My favorite fluke is...
There are some secret's I hang on too!

The Houdini Shad just got discontinued, now with the new line of baits.

I think it was lunker city who created the first slug-go. I have bought lots of these in past years and never given them a real chance. And I have had great success with the zoom fluke. It may be due to the fact that I was rigging upside down. However, zoom flukes work well rigged either way. In any event, looking forward to giving these another try later this spring when the bass move up in the water column.
I use the Yamamoto D-shad.
Gosh, I've been fishing the super fluke for decades, but this year I'm strictly throwing
the Zoom Magnum 7" Fluke (smoking shad). I thought it might be a tad big,
but it's surprising how many small bass seize that big chunk of plastic.
Since soft jerkbaits are weedless, they substitute for hard jerkbaits when I'm fishing in weeds (which is most of the time).
On the downside, soft jerks have no diving lip, so they depend on the weight of the fluke & hook
to get down into the work zone. With an Owner 6/0 Open-gap Twistlock Hook (sku 5132 - 32 grains),
the 7" magnum fluke has a nice lazy descent and is easily worked 1 to 3-ft below the surface.
Roger
I use zooms the most(prob 200 bags) but have a good supply of bass assassins and sluggos.babybass white pink and black covers all my fishing saltwater also, rock love the pink ones on a jighead
Bass Assassin's great! I knew someone(Roger)
Would tip their hand! Whoops...
Zoom super fluke
I don't fish a ton of fluke style lures, but I usually reach for the caffeine shad before any others. I've caught several nice fish with these
I like Houdini color these days, and I like the Houdini shad since I have a bunch of bags from a few years ago, zoom forked flukes for smaller sizes and for 5" and larger forked I love the D.O.A. Cal flukes in Gold Rush, but the Caffiene shad is my favorite...Casts a mile and that tail action is the best in my opinion, GYB has a good fluke that is similar as well....I still love Lunker City Sluggo's and the new slim sluggo's are awesome, not a lot of colors but AK shad is always a good color for most lakes.
And black and blue flukes are all good, and key is the right hook and lightest line possible in my opinion, and toss one on a chatterbait and game on....Not a fan of paddle tail flukes, I use swimbaits for those, grass pigs etc.
How about the Culprit Jerk Worm? Discontinued, but still have a bunch and catch lots of fish with them.
Zoom Super Fluke
Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Caffeine Shad - Baby Bass.

I wish I could try those out. I trust culprit to get the job done alot.
SK Caffeine shad and Zoom Super Fluke for me.
Flukes are my standard "only bringing a pocket's worth of tackle" lure for exploring new areas. I think Zoom Supers have the best action and durability, and I can skip them with the greatest of ease. I also use the D-shads, as they have that senko wiggle on the fall and are salty enough to hit deeper water a ton faster then the Zooms.
I likely have a dozen other small fluke style baits in rotation, it is really becoming one of my favorite ways to fish. Every time I have a senko or weightless worm tied on I, at some point, wish it was a fluke.
M-Pack Shad - look at the first post.

Zoom magnums and standard sized ones and Stankxbaitco jerk shads are what i use. As far as colors go, i like moccasin blue and watermelon candy or mardi gras for the zooms and the Stankx I like their blugilla.
Zoom super flukes
I use a few different versions. For a quick limit, when the bait fish are small, or in ponds I like the zoom super fluke jr. For most of my soft jerkbait fishing, I use the regular super fluke. For stripers, and for when I see large shad or I'm targeting a kicker fish, I use the magnum super fluke. I use the lunker city sluggo sometimes for stripers or when I've been catching them the fluke and they stop biting. Then I throw the sluggo to present a different look. When the fish are finicky I use the caffeine shad because it falls level. When the fish are super finicky I use the d shad, a fluke stick, or a senko type bait in shad colors. I also use all the zoom baits on scrounger heads and underspins
I love the Zoom Super Salty Fluke! Main colors, white pearl, white ice, watermelon, baby bass! They're durable and work great! I only use these. They just flat out catch fish for me!
I like the original slug go 6" and the perfect plastic magnum shad.
bass assassin 5inch,in native shiner. round body, little more weight to it ,cast's like a bullet.
Zoom bluegill flash....My go to fluke....
I like bass assassin single tail. They seem to have amazing colors and last forever on a twistlock hook
D shad for me. They have higher salt content allowing them to sink faster and fished deeper.
Anyone used the gambler stud?
In order,
1. Slug-Go's
2. Zoom Super Flukes
3. Yum Houndini Shad

This is incorrect, it is still pradco's catalog.
I really haven't branched out after starting with the Zoom Super Fluke in "Arkansas Shiner," it's caught me so many fish over the last couple years. The Arkansas Shiner color really imitates a bluegill. The fish love it.
Have fished flukes for years, but have been turning more and more to the D-Shad, as well as the Berkley Gulp Jerk Shad. However, the later is getting harder and harder to come by.
