Discontinued Items 2024

fishing user avatarslainempire reply :

What are some of your favorites?  I wish they still made mister twister sassy shiners.  My dad and I caught a ton of bass on them in the 80's.  Rigged on a black jig head.  I also miss the 2 toned bass pro 7" plastic worm.  They had a black/grey and dark green/light green that we loved back then as well....combined with another discontinued item, the water gremlin 1/16 and 1/8 needlenose worm weights.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Discontinued lures,

Bass Pro Shops Topnocker it's the hottest top water lure I have ever used. There are so many different presentations with a topnocker too. It's unique sound is unmatched. I can draw any fish out of the pads into the open water with it. If you give your rod tip a short twitch it will pop up and go down almost in the exact same spot. If you hold your rod tip down and reel it will dive and walk the dog under the water. The success was the same on top or under the water. Was it discontinued or outlawed because of its success? Just kidding.

Bomber FAT A crankbaits size 05 these in any color worked great. This is or was my hottest go to lure. The fish don't know if we're using the latest color designs or not.

I been buying up the similair model A in the same colors. One a tough day I throw one of these on and it always bails me out.

Excalibur Glass Shad I think it was called. It came in two different lengths. Of course another bass killer.

Mepps Timber Doodle size "00" I use the silver blade with the white Mr Twister split double tail grub it comes with and let it fall into the open pockets in the weeds. These are discontinued on clearance at MT/Mepps websites.

I like to shop for discounted lures. And when I find one that's hotter I buy more filling a small box. My problem is I find out there discontinued.

I really think what's missing on the manufacturers websites is customer reviews on each lure with the info on how they presentation and when they used it.

It's skill in catching fish not luck.

One lure that's not discontinued but hard to find sometimes is the Norman thin N.

fishing user avatarwhitwolf reply :

Bill Norman Snatrix, plastic worm! It's the first worm I threw and It caught many a bass!

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

This is easy, for me the Manns Manipulator worm or the Dragin' Worms are 2 discontinued items that I still keep a stash of but it is getting small. I'm still happy they make the auger tail worm, that is one of the best, if not the best worm for a left and drop presentation, a different action than anything available on the market!!

fishing user avatarriverat reply :

Arbogast Mud Bug -- IMO the best crankbait ever made for cranking wooden cover. Thankfully I still have enough that I don't need to worry about running out any time soon.

Riverat, I have a number of the Mud Bugs but don't throw them as I don't want to lose them in the structure.

After reading your post I think I will give them another whack next year.

Geaux Tigers!

I can't remember this pros name but pretty sure he's a big auburn fan. Remember watching last year he won a tournament on these BPS swim baits that had a treble hook, that were discontinued. He said him and his dad had scoured all the BPS all over and bought all they had but he was was getting low. You'd think he could have bought the molds or something.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Just open my tackle boxes and all the wooden lures are no longer made from swimbaits to crankbaits (plugs).

Structure spoons like Wards Champ, Megabait jig spoons and Haddock coffin spoons. Too many soft plastics brands to mention by name. You can find some of the discontinued lures on eBay or other sites for a price!

Storms original Wiggle Warts are a hot item today for example.

I don't know for sure whether they're discontinued or not, but Gillraker worms were one of my favorites. Haven't seen any for a long time.

Just recently the Chrome Blue Rapala Rippin Rap Silent version at BPS they stopped selling them. Online only 2 colors left.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Rapala Shallow Fat Rap, that lure was deadly in the 80´s, was deadly in the 90´s, keept on being deadly in the first decade of the 2000´s , it´s still deadly now and will continue to be deadly.

Many swear at them, I swear for them, the Storm Wart family before Normark went "original" again.

Storm Thundercrank.

Mann´s Jelly Waggler & Mannipulator worm, plus some really good colors they used to have ( WTH happened !!!! ? )

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

I don't know if they're discontinued, but I rarely see them in stores here in Indiana....

But I've always had good luck with the Mepps Thunderbug spinners. You can still buy them in some places, and on their website, but it seems that finding them in stores is harder and harder to do.

In a local creek below a dam around here, I can light up smallish bass, bluegill, crappie, and rock bass with them. It might not be lunker fishing, but man is it fun on a nice summer day!

This looks like it could be a possible copycat of the Topknocker you speak of, but my curiosity is primed.

You think this would be similar? I'd like to give it a try since it's very highly spoken of....

Steve Kennedy is who you're thinking of.  They actually still make the swimbait he used, just not in the size he prefered.

No idea.  They might not still make it.  I know when he won the tournament they did, just not in the bigger size he used.  It was a soft plastic line through bait.

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

An older spinnerbait that worked very well for me the Chummin Minnow like a beetle spin with a fish profiled scented body.

I believe it was just an XPS swimbait. I still have one of the exact swimbaits he was using but the tail got kinked and I haven't taken the time to try to fix it yet. They were a great bait and really cheap and durable, it's too bad they stopped making them.

It is a line through bait right?  I've straightened out some pretty jacked up tails with boiling water, I'm sure yours is fixable.

Mine isn't, it has plastic plugs at the nose and belly and tubing running through the middle and braided wire running through the tube. I know mine is fixable, it's just a little off, just haven't taken the time to fix the thing. Now that it isn't even supposed to make it above freezing until Wednesday I'll have plenty of time though.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I don't believe discontined but having a hard time finding them, I did locate a few on line and made an order.  Wahoo redfish key spoon, I use them for bass.

fishing user avatarTartan34 reply :

The Tornado Spinnerbait.

fishing user avatarRandySBreth reply :

I really liked the XCaliber XS4 suspending jerkbait, the new EEratic Shad that replaced it is shaped the same but suspends nose-down like a Megabass, instead of level like the old XS4 or Rogue or Husky jerk. That and some of the XPS tubes and grubs that had holographic eyes and were great soft plastics.

What shame it was discontinued, I have 5 left and use them sparingly, the gold and clown work great on peacocks. Blaze also changed the way the make their top water popper, the older one had a better action imo.

fishing user avatarmrmacwvu1 reply :

i found 20 of them of different colors for 2 bucks a piece

i bought everyone they had still have about 15 left

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Heddon Sonic, I had forgotten about that one.  We use to catch a ton of fish on the red/white when I was a kid.
