What are some good compact flipping jigs? Not necessarily light wire, finesse jigs but something with a smaller profile. I bank fish a lot and I'm thinking that I could coax more bites with a smaller profile jig.
Strike King Bitsy Bug is worth looking at. They are cheap and I've caught a lot of fish on them over the years.
Check out some of the Dirty Jigs at Tacklewarehouse!
All you need is a pair of scissors to make any jig compact.
Strike King Hack Attack Fluorocarbon Flipping Jig
Keitech casting jig.

Scissors and a smaller trailer.

Okay, I was under the impression that there was a difference between regular jigs and compact jigs. Is "compact jig" just buzz phrase for marketing?

A jig is a head, a hook and a skirt. If you aren't looking for a smaller, lighter hook all that's left is the head and the skirt. A jighead is a jighead so trimming the skirt down to whatever size you want it to be is really what makes a compact jig. That and a smaller trailer.

Gotcha. Just been having trouble finding something in a 1/4oz size that has a full skirt and heavier wire hook. Looking to pair with the trd craws from z-man.

I would contact Siebert Outdoors (link on the right of this screen) and see if he can help you out.

Look at Strike King's Hack Attack Jig & compare it to their Hack Attack Fluorocarbon Jig.
The Fluorocarbon is a compact version of the Hack Attack Jig.
Anyone who thinks a jig head is a jig head doesn't understand jigs!
Missile makes some smaller jigs. Over the winter I picked a few up at DICK’s. The size caught my eye because I don’t really throw huge baits. I have heavy vegetation but nothing like some of you guys have.

I have 1 or 2 of those flourocarbon ones. I'll see how the spring keeper works with the craws. That elaztech can be a pain with spring keepers.

I'll check em out next time I'm there.
Missile baits mini flip jig is more compact. There aren't a lot and that is why I make my own. I make a 1/4oz Arky style and a Brush jig with a heavy wire 2/0 hooks to keep them more compact.

These are fantastic with a pacachunk
I like the War Eagle Heavy Finesse jig and the Santone Texas Finesse jig. They seem very similar and both come in 2 packs. The Santone jig is available as light as 3/16 oz.
Molix makes a quality jig in a smaller profile but don't think they have as stout of a hook as the first 2 I mentioned though.
I know something about jigs and the Arkie head is compact when combined with a shorter shank heavy wire hook known as flipping jigs.
How you trim the skirt and what is used for a trailer all combine to make a jig more compact.
I agree SK FC Hack Attack is compact with a standard hook and bullet (grass) head to shorten the overall length but also uses a standard wire hook, unusual for a flipping jig and surprised the hook appeals to Catt, I like it.
Tom
We have this little guy. Built on a 2/0 hook. https://siebertoutdoors.com/Mini-Jig-492.htm
Using fine cut silicone skirting is another way to make a jig compact.

That arkie style jig you make is the exact description of what I'm looking for.

You’re describing the bitsy flip jig
Why not look into tungsten jigs?

Standard wire hook is not to be confused with a thin wire hook.

I'll be sure to check em out too. After looking em up, they might be the ticket. Many thanks.
I had Siebert Outdoors make me a little, puffball jig with a trailer made of living rubber. Worked great without a trailer. I bet Mike would make you the same thing if you ask. They were no more than his regular jigs.

Definitely something to look into later on but right now I'm mostly trying to learn. Five bucks a pop for something I lose a lot of is kinda discouraging.

I'm hearing a lot of good things about Seibert Outdoors. I'll be sure so see what they can whip up next time I'm stocking up. Their spinnerbaits look pretty sweet too so that's another plus.

I love the spinnerbaits. Get the wire tied version. The skirts last forever.

They are fantastic jigs. Not just because they are a great price, but they catch tons of fish.
If you want them to last for over 50 fish wire tie the skirt on after you get them. I always do it and they last for a very long time. I have an old post that I showed a jig that was beat to hell, with over 50 fish caught on it. One of my favorites.

What size wire do you use?

I mostly use 1/4oz with a trailer like a Yum Wooly Bug, a small 3" beaver type bait. Some lakes I fish have tons of SMB and are deep clear lakes, so I will use the 3/8oz to get down.
On 8/4/2019 at 5:39 AM, Marcus Y. said:What size wire do you use?
I use 24 gauge copper wire

A tungsten jig head is smaller than a lead one of the same weight. Combined with a shorter skirt, it will give you a smaller profile while not sacrificing weight. Add a short trailer with a lot of action, like the business end of a RageTail Craw and you can alter the fall rate.
