I just picked up bass fishing again. I used to fish a lot when I was about 16-17. I'm turning 26 now, and I want to become very familiar with tackle, before I get sucked into the never ending spiral of buying tons of lures that I will never use.
I'm not looking to really do tournaments or anything, but I want to catch fish. I've been doing decent with worms, but I need to leave my comfort zone and pick up some new tools.
So my question is this. If you had to master four lures, with presentations, and all depths, what would they be?
Jigs with a trailer, can be fished at most any depth
T-rigged plastics, any depth
Crankbaits, 1 foot to 20 foot depending on the bait
Spinnerbait, swimjig, chatterbait, all can be worked at most any depth
I could get a lot done with this group
t-rigs,weightless plastics, cranks, amy topwater like buzzbait or popR
For the mostly shallow ponds and lakes in my area my 4 would be and are.....
Hollow body frog
Jig with trailer
Shallow crankbait
T rigged any soft plastic weighted or not.

Dude, that´s part of the fun !
Okie dokie, for the sake of the argument:
3/8 oz single Tennessee ( or Colorado ) blade spinnerbait
1/2 oz lipless crank
6-7 inch straight tail worm
1/2 oz skirted jig
With those I can catch fish anywhere.
Tried to convince The BaitMonkey but he don´t understand nor bother to understand.
KVD Sexy Dawg
Ragetail Toad (solid body)
Senkos
Spinnerbait
Square bill crankbaits
Texas rigged plastics

~insert here~ haha
1/2oz spinnerbait
1/2oz lipless crank
T-rigged worm
1/2oz swim jig
5/16 oz jig with Rage Tail chunk trailer
Weightless trick worm
Topwater spook
Some kind of crankbait
And as far as this goes:

Hello and Welcome to BR ~
As for mastering four lures, with presentations, and all depths, I'm still working on the Mastering part but here's my list; when you're talking green bass ~
1/2 oz jig & craw
Lipless Crank bait
Drop Shot
Hollow or solid body swim bait
Now for the brownies ~
Jerk bait
Spinner bait
Drop shot
Tube.
A-Jay
Texas rigged worm or craw
Shaky head with finesse worm (if you cant catch them on this, nothing will)
Topwater baits, Buzzbait, popper, walk baits, frogs etc.
Weightless plastics, like flukes or worms
Each requires a different setup (rod/reel/line) and technique however, for maximum performance.
Spinner bait, arkey jig, traditional T-rigged craw, and some kind of finesses worm that could be rigged countless ways.
These are fun! For summer, I'd take:
-a walking topwater, like a LC Gunfish.
-a 5"-ish soft plastic swimbait on a weighted hook; Missile Baits Shockwave in Candygill works for me.
-a 5" Senko-style bait, probably a Yum Dinger.
-a Texas-rig with a craw or beaver; 1/4 oz. tungsten weight is a good starting point. Rage Craw, Paca Craw, Paca Punch, RI Sweet Beaver, Rage Bug; anything sort of compact and/or flappy.
This way I've got something on top, something in the middle that swims and is relatively weedless, a bait that falls slowly, and a bait that falls quickly and has a profile that will penetrate cover. Honorable mention goes to the hollow-body frog.
If a jerkbaits working that's what I'll use, the same with a Jig.
You can have everything else!
Those 2 baits can get me through most of the year and catch me some pretty nice fish!
Football jig 1/2 ounce with trailer
Carolina rig
Spinnerbait
Crankbait- 5-10 foot if bank fishing and if fishing off a boat all the way down to 20
Jig: Yellow Twister Tail
Plastic: Senko T'Rigged or Wacky Rigged.
That's what pulls me my fish.
1/2 oz. jig & Rage chunk
Baby Rage craw
5" senko
2.5" Chugbug
Mojo Rig & Finesse Worm
Weightless Senko (wacky and t-rigged)
Walk the Dog bait (Zara Spook, Sexy Dawg)
Squarebill Crankbait
Jigs
T-Rigs
Crankbaits
and
Swimbaits
Hula popper, flat fish lure "probably in Orange", daredevil spoon "red and white", purple and white rooster tail "probably 1/8 oz.
1. Slider worm
2. T-rigged zoom lizard
3. Spook Jr
4. Shaky head with a zoom trick worm
jigs
shakeyheads
senkos
10ft cranks
5 - 6" Soft Swimbait (1/4 oz swimbait hook)
5/8 oz Lipless Plug
1/2 oz Swim Jig & 4.5" Twin-tail Trailer
Roger
Have fun and catch fish anywhere.
1- senko 5" green pumpkin, junebug, black....grab some trick worms in 4" and large size, baby bass, green pumpkin gold, purple chart....and some 7.5 and 10" power worms in black and blue and motor oil...then grab a pack of white, chart and smoke grubs in 4" size curly tail....worm hook assortment ewg size 2 to 5/0
2- Spinnerbaits- Grab some Booyah, strikeking Real gill, white, chart, and few tandem, colorodo and grab 4-5 in 1/8, 1/4,3/8 and then pick up a buzzbait in black and a small one in white.
3- Now you need to have a floating minnow or jerkbait like a rapala jointed J-11 balsa, Long A, Rapala J-9 or any 3-4.5" hardbaits that float and cast far double as cranks, jerkbaits, topwaters and bomber, storm, cordell, Rapala, Sebile action first, Strike King have some good ones....
4- grab some split shots, but also grab a rattle trap or 2, and then don't forget the Rebel pop'r and heddon torpedo any topwater on sale, one prop, one popper, and make sure you have the right hooks, terminal tackle and line....most important, and also get an inline spinner like a Mepps Aglia 1 size as a confidence bait if times are tough or some beetle spins as they will always get a bite going for confidence even if small fish, crappie, perch, or big bass, never know, but do not fear large lures as I know the spinnerbaits look big to new guys, they always think rooster tail size.....Zara spook, skitter walk 9-11 are good sizes topwater, 2,5-5" lures are good, worms up to 10 good, and read articles on this site to learn.....most important and enter tournaments to fish with guys who will teach you a ton...good luck.
This time of year I would use a jig w/ trailer, topwater, t-rigged bait, and have an ultra light set up handy.
Spinnerbait
Squarebill
Jig
Frog
That right there will do it all.
