I have to ask. Are the Zoom cranbaits really woth $22 a copy?

I must admit, I am somewhat of a newbie but this price seems a little out there.
Worth and value are to a certain point subjective. To some they are worth every penny to others they are overpriced. Needed ? like if you don´t have it you won´t catch fish ? no, not really; I do own 20+ dollars baits, some are great, others are "?" because I´ve never fished them and most of them will never be fished; I´ve caught thousands of fish with less than 9 dollars baits.
Often baits are collectible or shall I say, collected? So it is a fun if rather expensive hobby.
So , yea like Raul said.. Price? Is in the value you place on a item... The cheapest most effective bait... IMO ... Is the plastic worm, hook, slip sinker. When I started Triging worms it was 6 cents a rig.... I was also buying handmade topwaters in Fl, at 15$ in 1986. Only you can truly answer that!
Let me see buy a $20 lure or buy $20 worth of lunch? It's a no brained..lunch.
They do look great with the Orange and reddish bottoms, hmm. But they look like rapala DT' s with a custom paint job?
Nothing like the $3 to $5 bomber cranks I know they work. I do have lures that caught nothing already.
They caught fish for many here they just didn't work for me. I think I'll pass on these.
Buyer beaware....

If you are familiar with WEC crankbaits, the model number E-1 tells you everything you need to know. If you don't the E-1 is a 2" bait, fishes is the 3-5' range and floats as it is hand crafted out of dense balsa. These should not be considered in the same boat as Bomber, Bandit, or Rapala, they are much more a custom bait, hand built in limited numbers. Only you can decide if they are worth the price.
Only you can decide if it's worth it. Like aavery said, WEC's are handmade, hand painted, custom balsa crankbaits. Balsa fishes differently than plastic and good balsa baits cost a lot of money. The Zoom baits aren't out of whack, price wise, for baits of that nature. I own and use WEC baits and to me they are worth the money.

I am sure that Kevin Short will tell you they are worth every cent, seems like he has made a buck or two fishing them.

Absolutely, he's won 6 figures on the E1 and E2.
In addition to the E1 and E2 I really like the Tapp..I dont have a problem at all paying 22 bucks for a bait of that quality.
Do they have rattles?
Where do you find the info?
I sent out many lures for custom paint jobs to Tclark custom lures. They came out awesome. They look so great I hate to use them.
I may try a few but $20 for the average fisherman may hurt the sales. It's the sales volume that makes money.
Now these will out produce my bomber cranks?

Bill, just do a google search for WEC baits, and all will be answered. These baits again are a custom bait, where quality trumps quantity, they are hand made and painted. Sure they could make more money if they were easy to produce, but you have to ask yourself would you end up with less quality. I can't speak for them now, but back in 09 &10 there was a waiting list to get your hands on some of the WEC models.
I own a handful of these baits because the price I got for them I basically stole them. Just a great, great balsa bait.
They look like Sissons work

Ed Chambers, owner/founder of Zoom soft plastics.
Lee Sisson is making baits again though. I've bought several from his website, they are really nice baits and priced well. Yakima was making Lee Sisson baits for awhile after Bagley but they were complete junk. His new baits are really nice.
I see, yes I have been to Sissons site too,
Zooms art work is very , very nice no baits yet,
You know any other place besides eBay to get the zoom cranks?

Kevin Short's store, Peepersbaits.com is the main place besides Ebay.
Ok you got me what colors are hot for you?
I been using the older bomber colors to this day with awesome success.
This past week I just purchased the bomber fat free and the dance colors which have been offered for many years. I'm slow to change when what I'm using is working.
Ok I'll try new stuff.

I bought a few of the new Bagleys but I haven't thrown them yet. They look pretty good though.
You might also check out Dave's, I think he has the best Balsa bait I've tried . They are as good as the old Bagleys from 30 years or so ago ,of course they aint cheap but thankfully it's pretty hard to loose a squarebill..

I purchased one of each model. I need to go back once I try the first ones out.
I didn't realize they are custom baits. I may have to by a couple and see how they work here in Western NY.
I bet the pike will love them. Glad it's your $22 a pop and not mine.On 5/24/2014 at 11:24 PM, sofarfrome said:I didn't realize they are custom baits. I may have to by a couple and see how they work here in Western NY.
I'd say they are worth the purchase price. Some people, such as myself, spend that much and more for plastic "JDM" baits, i.e: two worthless halves of plastic craped out of an injection molding machine in china by a machine operator. At least with a bait made my a craftsman from inherently valuable materials you can see where your money went.
What's a good zoom medium range diver? Around the range of 6-12' for this time of year after the spawn.
I found the Dive E 1,2,3 anyone know the depths? I'm not having any luck on google searches

http://www.peepersbaits.com/pages/wecmain.html Just click on the model of bait you are interested in and it will give you the details you are looking for.
The "diver E" isn't on that sute
All of my WEC's are shallow baits, I've never fished any of the deeper divers. Balsa is very buoyant though so they probably don't run as deep as a similar plastic bait would.
Here is a dive e-ii
