Anyone have a bait they just hate to use even though it's a proven bass catching bait. I have to say mine is a spinner bait. It's a proven bait no arguements there, but I just can't fish one and be productive.
It really irritates me too that I hate fishing such a versitile bait. But I have no results hardly when using one and for that reason I rarely throw one.
senko
rip baits
crankbaits
traps
senko
Jigs
I lose way to many in the rocks.
I did have luck swimming them last year but I hate fishing them on the bottom
Crankbait I actually like to use them but my hook up ratio is horrible
Plastic worm Texas rigged with a bullet weight. I have been fishing for about 20 years, only two bass caught on them. Ugh, that is terrible. I never use them anymore so, I am sure my ratio is only going to get worse!
Spro Bronze eye... I generally miss the hookset and get a flying frog buzzing by my head!!! But its awesome when you get it.

Don't matter where yer from...that's funny!
;D ;D ;D ;D
Also haven't had any luck with plastic worms but going to try again this year. Been studying
shakey head >
Funny how some people's least faves are some of my faves...senkos and worms.
I agree though, I haven't been very good with spinnerbaits.
Swim baits, I just don't like them can't fish one for more than five minutes.
Quoterip baitscrankbaits
traps
senko
I got the same list.
Tubes, Tubes, Tubes. I can't even get a bite with them.
Crankbaits. I fish from the bank, and a crankbait just begs to get hung up on every weed and twig in the water.
Id have to say fishing a football head type jig. I have had minimal success and I seem to snag them a lot. I usually lose one in the first 5 casts and give up on it. I use swim jigs a lot and thats my favorite way to fish.
Jigs in the winter, cuz ya gotta fish em so dang Slow.. ;D
my least favorite are shakey head and tubes, havent fished them that much and havent caught anything on them so i never have enough confidence to stick with them
Senkos.
spinner baits
QuoteCrankbaits. I fish from the bank, and a crankbait just begs to get hung up on every weed and twig in the water.
I'm with you on this one.

Crankbaits... I most unproductive fishing ever for me. :'( But for some reason I'm looking up crankbait rods.... oh the world works in funny ways :
Rage Tails, love the fish, don't like the hype.
QuoteSwim baits, I just don't like them can't fish one for more than five minutes.
x2
Junk
Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs. I guess I'm not very good at this. O well, I have my worms!
senkos for me!
Mine is a spinnerbait too. I've caught ONE fish on a spinnerbait since I've been bass fishing (summer of 08), even though I always hear how well it catches bass.
definitely a spinner bait
then shakey head/jigs
and rattle traps
I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than fish a Carolina rig all day.
QuoteI'd rather stick a fork in my eye than fish a Carolina rig all day.
I would have to agree... that is more of a pain than it is worth it to me
Carolina Rigs are a bore, but I will still toss them because they catch fish for me. I rig them with a white fluke and dead stick them once I feel the sinker contact the weedline.
Jigs. I've landed a couple of small fish swimming jigs around, but thats it. I keep trying to use them, but I lose a lot of them down deep. No confidence in a jig at all. It kills me because I know they're supposed to be great baits, etc etc. I just suck with a jig. This will probably be another year where I swear to try using them more and just eventually say screw it.
Another vote for the Carolina rig. I keep rigging them up and throwing them when I think the conditions are right ~ problem is, they never are . . . .
:'(
A-Jay
senko
senkos, tubes, and dropahot
cant say i have one
Carolina Rig...
1. No confidence
2. Can't cast it
3. Rather work on other techniques when the bite shuts off
4. No fun shopping for sinkers and glass beads
I only bust out the senko when nothing else is producing because it is just not as much fun to fish as the other presentations. I also try to avoid tubes and flukes
Topwaters! Spooks, poppers, frogs... I hate them all! My friends think I'm crazy, but I just can't stand fishing topwater.
QuoteTopwaters! Spooks, poppers, frogs... I hate them all! My friends think I'm crazy, but I just can't stand fishing topwater.
Blasphemy ;D :
anything that is not a soft plastic
except buzzbaits
CRANKBAITS!!!!!
I hate them....
As a landlocked fisherman of small weedy ponds i can cast it reel twice and then im hung up. I also dont like spinnerbaits, just not my thing :-?
As productive as they are I do not like any plastic worm, too boring for me, I'd rather watch the Sound Of Music with Julie Andrews.
All I use in Florida for bass are hard and soft jerkbaits, rebel poppers and spoons. I'll use a jig or crankbait just for a rare change of pace.
Topwater

Same here, only I have been productive with them. My problem with spinnerbaits is I have a hard time believing that they are going to out produce on of my other, more comfortable options. I usually fish one 2-3x per year and thats it.
The Roland Martin helicopter bait and the Banjo Minnow. I can't seem to get bit with these tremendous lures. I'd rather fish a Dancin' Eel than these baits.
Crankbaits...until I master depth control with these things, it will be a battle.
I get bit often enough using tubes (internal weight, texas rigged) but I have issues sticking and landing fish with this lure. Maybe 1 out of 8 on average, over the past couple of years.
B---o M----w? Don't you know just using those two words in that order can get you banned? I thought the program blocked them.
Only one thing I hate to use, treble hooks. Nasty things, especially with two or three of them dangling from a bait.
QuoteI only bust out the senko when nothing else is producing because it is just not as much fun to fish as the other presentations. I also try to avoid tubes and flukes
I'm with you on the weightless Senko, highly effective but when fishing deep water I'd rather fish crankbaits or weighted T-rigs where I can make 3 cast to every one that I make with a Senko. That said I'll throw it if I have to.

Sorry, I forgot children read these postings. I'm going to wash my mouth out with Mega Strike right after I hit post this.
Like others have said - soft plastics. I know that as a class they are probably the most productive bait...but it's just too slow and boring for me. I have vowed to try to fish plastics more this year...
anything rigged "wacky"
A Carolina Rig, I just can't seem to get into just draggin' the thing around.
With the exception of soft plastic jerkbaits I hate using soft plastics and yet, about a third of the fiosh I catch are caught on them, a man gotta do what he gotta do.
If I had to pick, I would have to go with senco and carolina rig. I know they produce, but there are other methods I would go to first. I guess it's a matter of preferance.
Anything involving a red and white bobber
1. Shakey head
2. Deep Diving crankbaits (all though I'm getting better with them)
3. Vertical spoon jigging
Soft plastics, although, I have vowed to catch smallies with tubes this season. I'm just too "Type A" to throw out a bait, and wait.
I love my crankbaits. spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and swimbaits. If I'm chucking, and winding, I'm a happy man.
Falcon
Deep diving crankbaits. I HATE THEM SO MUCH!!! Anything that dives more than 10ft is completely unproductive for me. I'm hoping to really buckle down and learn them this summer.
i love my plastics & fish them a good chunk of the time. but dang i hate tubes, friggin lame *** action dork baits is what they are. their in the mix with my other smallie stuff. yet i always cringe a little when i think its the right thing to use at the time & tie one on.
they catch fish though so my love/hate relationship with them will continue ;D
Jigs
I lose way too many in the rocks
X2
I was shocked when I saw nobody had mentioned my 2 most hated.
1. Float-n-Fly... I'm just saying watching paint dry and grass grow is almost as exciting and you don't have to do either one of those in 20 degree weather.
2. Silver Buddy.... This is the only lure that can get hung on everything it even gets close to touching. I am pretty sure this lure was an evil plot by a fisherman to get his competition to stay hung all day while he fished.
It is nice to see what is one persons garbage is another persons gold. Alot of the baits mentioned here are some of my favorites. Allthough I'm really surprised at a couple of the responses
I don't really hate any one lure but I am starting to understand that in the lakes I fish it is very hard to get certain bites. For example there is no bite for : spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and top water. The fish in these lakes just don't accept those presentations. I've learned that they like the jig, dropshot, senko, if the afternoons are warm a crankbait, and a swimbait once in a while.
I imagine that on other lakes with different conditions the lures that I am so confident in wouldn't produce squat. So while I don't hate them, I do get frustrated that the presentations that work for other fisherman on other bodies of water don't work on mine. It would be fun to catch them some other way, especially on topwater.
Carolina rig and jigs.
Senkos. They catch a lot of fish but I cant stand using them. I don't dislike using spinnerbaits, but I've only caught two fish on them, and one was a trout.
Big Bass Chaser makes a good point. Some baits are great in some places and awful in others, I don't know why but it is like that in the local waters around here. The hot lures change from location to location and I know that happens all over the country. That is why I don't agree with playing by the rules when bass fishing, way too many variables. Keep an open mind and adjust on the water.
QuoteTopwaters! Spooks, poppers, frogs... I hate them all! My friends think I'm crazy, but I just can't stand fishing topwater.
You must be crazy topwater is the best. My least favorite is probably spinnerbaits.
Frogs have been my one real downfall with me getting hookups on them but never knowing when to set the hook so haven't been able to lip any fish when they have hit them.
My other downfall has been swimbaits with nothing even coming close to hitting them but may just be the way I've fished them in the past.
Gonna have to give them both a try this season
jigs and its just cause i have never had any luck with them.
Jigs, I simply do not have the patience.
QuoteThe Roland Martin helicopter bait and the Banjo Minnow. I can't seem to get bit with these tremendous lures. I'd rather fish a Dancin' Eel than these baits.
Certainly tough lures to have success with (unless you know the secret, that is). The Bionic Minnow has caused me fits, but the Mighty Bite is my true arch nemesis. Everyone else on TV can catch fish with them, so why can't I?
I've only started fishing again in the last year, but I just can't seem to get confidence or catch fish on Tubes.
It seems like whenever I tie a tube on I can't fight the image that I'm dragging a black & blue turd along the bottom of the river or lake.
I wind up giving up, tying on a speed craw and catching fish.
I hate Carolina rigs. On the other hand, T rigs have caught most all my big bass, and I fish them well and enjoy it.
Another one I havnt caught on is a spinnerbait, but just because I havnt put in the time. This summer Im going to put some effort into it.
QuoteLike others have said - soft plastics. I know that as a class they are probably the most productive bait...but it's just too slow and boring for me. I have vowed to try to fish plastics more this year...
who said soft plastics need to be fished slowly?
the people who have mentioned top water as baits they hate to use shouldnt be bass fishing. i dont think there is a more exciting way to catch bass. i hate chatterbaits
Quotethe people who have mentioned top water as baits they hate to use shouldnt be bass fishing. i dont think there is a more exciting way to catch bass. i hate chatterbaits
Again one persons trash is gold to the other. The same could be said about me. I can't use a spinner bait and catch fish others here probally could throw just the wire and the hook and forget the blades and skirt and still can catch fish. But seeing how I can't seem to connect when fishing them wouldn't mean I shouldn't be fishing.
You know I would love to hear what baits some of the pros can't stand to fish. I think that would be interesting to hear.
I would say any bait that's heavy and wears you out, like deep diving cranks or big spinnerbaits. Using casting tackle with somewhat heavier line helps with that though, and those lures catch bass for me. Jerkbaits, both hard and soft, leave my wrists sore at the end of the day but I catch so many fish on them I am usually always using them for part of the day.
dont like using:
senko - boring
cranks - too many hooks
my low confidence bait:
buzzbait
Mine is a buzzbait. Not b/c i can't catch anything its just when me and the old man get to fish together we have a freindly wager about most fish caught. He uses two lures buzzbait and a t-rigged 8" paddle tail. He beats me when he uses that stupid buzzbait everytime.
Cranks from the bank.
I have 2- spinnerbait and drop shot. If the water is right, i'll throw a blade, but I don't have much confidence.
On the drop shot, I just don't like ultra finesse fishing.
Topwater hollow frogs, can't seem to get a decent hook set to save my life!
