i need some line to spool up two baitcasters that will mainly be used for jigs and t-rigs in moderate cover....thought about trying something new...i normally use trilene XT and recently big game(dont like it)...any suggestions?
Cliff
Trilene 100% Flouro, PLine CXX, BPS Excel...the choices are endless.
Stren original 14 or 17. For thirty five years I've try-ed about every line out there and I always go back to stren. 8-)

It's my favorite, too. Hard to beat this stuff.
Stren x3
Red, what's wrong with Big Game. I love it, use it 90% of the time. To your question, for jigs and T-rigs, I reeeaaalllyyy like the Trilene Professional 100% Flouro. It is a little on the $$, but is an excellent line.
dont know, i have been using 12lb big game and i just dont like it...seems too springy or something...
Hmm...

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
(cough) sufix siege (cough)
p line cxx, alot of members here including myself swear by it

My line for several years until I found something with all the same positive attributes, but without the incredibly awful memory.

14 lb Sufix Elite. 8-)
I like the 14# Suffix Elite I spooled on my Patriarch last Sunday. You can't go wrong with Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 12# either, IMO
where can i buy yo-zuri ultra soft? other than cabelas?

: indeed. All the YZ Ultra Soft and Hybrid I've used has had worse memory than the CXX I've used.
I went back to stren this year. After years of chasing the "perfect line", I have gone back to the original and it has not failed me. For the money I spend, I can respool twice as often for the same price and I think that I end up with much less memory with it.
Trilene is my second choice but defininitly not the "Iron Silk".
I hate braid in most situations as well.

Are you sure that's "tobacco" hanging there in the avatar?

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
roadwarrior, I'm trying to understand the thinking on this and here is why. If fishing in an area where your likely to get snagged don't you want to use a line around #10-12 so you can break it? If you use the #20 line you will be moving your boat allot to get the snag loose or cut the line.
Also the idea of such heavy line on a casting reel seems to me that it would really cut down on casting distance. This is just the thinking of a newbie when it comes to baitcasting rigs. Maybe I think to much! :-[ Mike

I haven't seen it anywhere else. Cabelas seems to have a lock on the Ultra Soft. They put it on sale a couple of months back and I grabbed 1/2 dozen spools, so I'm set for a while. I use Ultra Soft and Power Pro exclusively (except leaders) for all my fishing. Great line makes everything better. JMHO

In the areas that I fish, the entire bottom is covered in fallen/submerged timber. Anything less than 20lb test and you don't even get to see your fish. You'll feel her wrap you up in the trees and then she's gone. Scraping back and forth over and under multiple branches causes most lines to fray and snap. If I get hung up, I do have to move over to it to get it off but this is a small price to pay for getting that 8 to 10 pounder out of the trees without breaking off.

#12 and even #15 can be broken, #20 cannot. #12 will not have much impact on "average" casting distance. Perhaps at the maximum, 50 yards instead of 55 or 60, but there is nothing noticable in the 25-30 yard range.

McCoy's Mean Green
Thanks for the info again roadwarrior, Mike
Good point EastTexasBassin, Most of my river fishing will be done from the shore so I think I will try #17. Strong but I can still break it if needed. Most of it is to deep to wade if I have to go after a snagg, Mike

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
x2!! (Yes, he converted me) Only difference, for baitcasters I use orignal Hybrid, not Ultra Soft. 12lb has little stretch, very sensitive, and tough as nails! 15lb has more memory but still has the same characteristics....
so your saying that the regular hybrid is better for casting gear than the ultra soft? or does either work on either rig and it is a preference thing...i am talking casting gear here cuz i dont have any spinning at the momnent
Cliff
well i got new line...i didnt get the ultra soft simply because i needed line right now and i have to order that stuff...maybe next time. i looked at all the stuff there was to choose from in academy today and i decided on PLine Floroclear, 10lb test. i spooled it onto my revo and hit the local tanks. i really like it so far. i dont know if it is the line or the fact i went down from 12 to 10 lb test but man i can cast a whole lot better now! further and with less backlash. and i managed to land a few bass(see outings section)
thanks for the info on the lines, i think i will try the ultra soft next time i am in need of line
Cliff
Nobody said anything about Gamma! So I will vote for the Gamma.

$$$$$$$$$$$$ It is very good line, yet as many times as I re-spool throughout the year it gets a bit pricey @ $28 per.
I like the Halo for all my BC's
the main lines i like is suffix elite, and Berkley vanish.

Just wait until you catch a fish, and the line breaks ;D
The Fluoroclear is very limp, and very easy to cast, but breaks VERY easily.
Pline is awesome, try the fluorocarbon. I use 6lb on spinning and 15lb on casting, stuff is incredible and least memory of any fluoro I've used.
14lb Triline Sensation or 15lb Vicious Fluorocarbon.
Hey Cliff,
Order a single spool of Ultra Soft. I finally broke down after reading RoadWarrior's posts and grabbed a spool. Now I have enough to last me for quite a while. It really is good line. It behaves like limp mono and it is very strong. Try it.
Ronnie
I just bought my first Fluorocarbon line today.
I got berkley vanish in 10lbs.
I usually use the spiderwire mono.
I would like any input anyone has on the vanish, thank you. )

you got that right....because of this crap called fishing line i am now like 5 jigs and several hooks, worms and weights poorer!! > i wouldnt even use this junk as backing! forget all this new fangled crap on the market now...i will buy trilene XT and thats it from now on....i know it is good line...i should have never changed lines in the first d**n place!!
vent over
Cliff
P.S. i would not recommend PLine Floroclear to anyone for any reason!
