Daiwa Alphas Sv Or Megabass Fx68 2024

fishing user avatarPitchinJigz reply :

I should probably be asking this on the TT Forums instead, but does anyone on here have experience with either of these reels? I can get them for around the same price and I'm not sure which one to pull the trigger on. Thanks.

fishing user avatar5fishlimit reply :

If you can get them both for the same price I would hands down get the Megabass FX68.  I love my Alphas SV, but every Megabass reel I've ever handled has been so impressive until the sticker shock sets in.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking the Megabass is the way to go too.
fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

You could always drop an SV spool in the Megabass too.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

I have a T3 MX which shares many of the same qualities and internals as the FX68. I have an Alphas SV as well. They both are outstanding. For that price I would get the FX68. The Alphas will handle lighter weights better and be a lighter weight and slightly better parking reel. Plenty of tuning options for both should you need/want it.

They're $100 a pop haha.

The Alphas is lighter than the FX68? The specifications I found say the Alphas is 175g and the FX68 is 163g.

FX68 is 190g. Alphas is lighter than FX68.

If you're planning on buying either of them from Japanese eBay sellers, make sure they actually have them in stock.  I ordered an SV105 from one seller (omotenashi-japan47) whose listing said he had them, but he has not shipped it yet and has now told me he is out of stock.  So I ordered a second one from a different seller (ibuyjp) whose listing showed he had them in stock.  Guess what?  Eight days later, it hasn't been shipped.  I'm starting to think no one has them in stock....  Both of these sellers have a substantial amount of feedback and a very good (99+%) rating.

Tight lines,

Bob

The EBay seller must be wrong then. If assume the FX68 Viola and FX68 have the same internals...

They guy seems straight up and I'm not expecting problems with a seller with that much feedback.  And he apologized and is sending a free spool of line along with the reel when it ships.  I'm just saying it wouldn't hurt to verify stocking before hitting the PayPal button...

Which reel did you decide on?  The whole Japanese Domestic Market thing is a slippery slope... first I bought a few lures, then a Major Craft Volkey rod, and now, two reels.

Bob

I think I've decided on the Megabass reel. It's going to be my "Christmas gift" so i can't see myself getting too much more JDM stuff soon. I usually can't afford that kind of stuff because I'm in high school. Eventually I'd love to get a handful of JDM reels though.

That's a very nice gift!  Congratulations!

I hope you find one in stock and are allowed to fish it before Christmas morning!!!   :)

Thanks, Bob! I'm hoping to get it out a few times this winter (if it's in stock) before tournament season starts up again.

Thanks IAY! Yes, the FX68 is 190 while the Alphas is 175. Not a huge difference nor all that noticeable. I prefer the palming of the Alphas over the T3 platform. Also the T3 reels are not overly good with the light stuff. I prefer mine for 38 oz and above baits.

So you like the Megabass more overall, but the Alphas for palming and lighter baits? Then I should definitely get the Megabass because I'm probably using it for heavier lures and I have large hands.
fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

Are you getting the Viola or the Rosso? The 1010 spool in the FX68 has a sweet spot around a half ounce. If you're looking to cast anything lighter the Alphas SV will perform better.

The Alphas SV just recently came out and will be available for a while. MB reels seem to have shorter life spans when looking at how long their available and some are very limited runs. If you can buy either in the same condition for $200 I would get the FX68. If you throw heavier baits you will probably enjoy the T3 reels. If you haven't fished a T3 or an Alphas SV it would be worth while to at some point get both. They are both incredible reels and platforms.

Congratulations!  I hope you enjoy the wonderful reel, and it serves you well for many, many years!!!

I think I'm getting the Viola, but I'm actually having a tough time making a final decision. I'll be using lures around 1/2oz on this setup so the FX68 should do great.

Sounds cool. I'll probably get an Alphas SV eventually, but I think having a Megabass reel would be awesome.

Just now getting into JDM reels and it's crazy how you can get some great Japanese reels for the price of decent reels made in China here in the U.S..

I'd go alphas SV, the pop up hood kills the t3 platform...

I think the regular, black FX68 looks the best.  What rod are you putting it on?

Not positive yet. Either an *** Black 2, Daiwa DX-Bass, or Zillion.

T3s are the most polarizing reel in the Daiwa platform. People either hate it or love it.

It seems like a great platform to me. Plus the Megabass logos add some incentive for me. ;)
fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Idk anything about either reel but after you get the one you want post some impressions about it. I'd love to hear it. There's several Daiwas I'm interested in checking out at some point.

Will do! I got a new Fuego and I love it so I figured I'll start getting some high end Daiwa stuff too. Glad I tried their products.

Nice! Is it a new to you Fuego or the New model of the fuego? My buddy was just looking at those ended up with something else. He loves his previous gen Fuegos.

It's the new generation Fuego. Not sure how it stacks up against the older, more expensive Fuego's but it's a good reel no doubt.

So, have you had a chance to play around with the FX68?  Would love to hear an update as I may be close to pulling the trigger on one soon.

To be totally honest with you, the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a bad idea. I figure I should put a solid Arsenal together before I really get into enthusiast tackle and gear. I ended up going with a Curado I to save some money, which I'm impressed with. I still plan on picking up one of these reels eventually. Sorry I can't help you, but the feedback from others seems great on the reel.
