fishing user avatarShane J reply :

Looks nice. I wouldn't mind trying one out, for sure. Seems Shimano doesn't make anything that isn't good. How much are they?

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Based on the hardware, positioned above the Cumera line.  Right now though, details are nebulous, LOL.

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

Here some info I found on the internet, I think it was posted by bantam1.

Pricey for a Shimano Bass rod.

Lightweight, 3.5 oz for the 7'1" rod.

Are they going after the Steez market ?

fishing user avataruicdent11 reply :

Looks like it's priced well above the Cumara.  ;)

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

Remeber when I said "Just wait until you see what I am working on for next year"? Well this is it  ;)

15 months of hard work and testing led to these rods. We desinged an ultra light rod worth of placing our ultra light reels on. Plus the colors match  ;D

fishing user avataruicdent11 reply :

Do you have to by a core in order to own these new rods?  ;D

fishing user avatarBronzefly reply :

Wow!  That 7'1"MHXF and a Core 50... that will be fun!  8-) I'm looking forward to trying one of these out...

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

So WHEN can I buy one?

fishing user avatarauburn bass man reply :

Bantam1,

Do you have plans on expanding the lineup in both casting and spinning models?

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

please tell me that you will make one between 7'2" and 7'4" in MH.....pretty please?

fishing user avatarmidnighthrasher reply :

All i can say is that i want them now!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont even need to see them to know i want them!!!!!!!! I guess i cant blame the baitmonkey.... more like the rod and reel monkey!!!!

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

They will be on the shelves by early March. This is a new line so more than likely it will be a year before we see any additions.

fishing user avatarThai reply :

Don't know how i feel about the random splash of red on the split grip but it looks like a great rod, a bit pricey but if it's anything like a steez than it should have no problem selling

Matches up with the red bits on the Core.

These will look awesome together.

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

The random red fade is different on every rod. They are hand painted do there will be some slight variation from rod to rod. They look really good in person. There is some red pearlescent up in the epoxy coated section above the reel seat as well. It only shows in the sun and at certain angles. The Core and Stradic CI4 look perfect on these rods.

fishing user avatarThai reply :

I agree it would set the core/ci4 off, but for those who opt for a diff color reel it might be an eyesore, i have a curado mounted on a gblank with red threading and it doesnt quite look right...

fishing user avatarseyone reply :

"Lighter and more sensitive." than the cumara. "the Cumara CUCX72MH weighs 140 grams/5 ounces. The Cumulus CMLSX71MH weighs 100 grams/ 3.5 ounces."  I want to pick one up.

fishing user avatarVAfishin4me reply :

Will this be the lightest rod on the market? Sorry if this is a dumb question because I've never really looked into rod weight.

fishing user avatarBMoore reply :

I'm a huge Shimano fan but that red fade and rounded butt cap don't sit very well with me. I wish they would have just put a red stripe or line on it and the same endcap as the cumara. oh well I'm sure it's a sweet rod.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

Dan, how does the seat on this rod compare to the seat on the Cumara?  The same, similar or totally different?

That was one of the things I didn't like about the Cumara.

In terms of weight, it ranks close to a Steez maybe even a bit lighter and its as expensive as some Steez models.  I'd like to try one but I wish Shimano would have made a more refined looking grip and end cap, that one looks cheap compared to the existing cumara and the steez.  I also hope its a better reel seat design than the cumara, that reel seat works fine but it looks cheesy.

Agreed, from the reel seat down it just doesnt look right.

Have you weighed your Steez rods, and compared them to the published weights of the Cumulus?  Have you held these rods?  You make it sound as though you've had them in your hands, which I doubt.  It looks as though they are a tiny bit lighter, and that's probably due to NOT using all the bling you guys are asking for....

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

The reel seat is similar to the Cumara but the threaded portion is different. There are no exposed threads when you tighten down the hood. This makes it much more comfortable in my hand.

As far as I know these are the lightest production rods. I am not saying there are not lighter rods available through smaller manufacturers. The boys at TT checked against their list and said they were the lightest they have seen.

You will see there is no badge on the butt end of the rod, no aluminum appearance parts, no paint on the top section of the blank (like the MBR GLX models ),etc; This is a pure lightweight rod built for performance. Anywhere weight could be shaved and made sense, it was done. We make ultra lightweight reels that deserve an ultra lightweight rod to be mounted on.

Aluminum parts are mostly for appearance anyways. In some rods they do add to the balance of the rod. On others it just adds something shiny or colorful. They add cost and weight to the rods. We wanted to maintain the pricing that we set for these rods. We also wanted the rods to be light. So we eliminated all the extra weight we could. Think race cars.

...Think race cars.

I think Shimano should've "thought race cars" when they named it.  Cumulus are the big puffy coulds, and the word comes from Latin meaning "heap" or "pile".  Might be a super-awesome rod, but the name doesn't match.  Doesn't matter at all, but it actually makes me chuckle. ;D

Wow, love the rod, what is it?  Oh, that's the new Shimano Pile. ;)

fishing user avatarBronzefly reply :

I understood the cloud reference, and also thought big and puffy - a somewhat odd image for the lightest production rods out there.  I thought Cirrus would have been perfect although it may have already been used elsewhere - but nobody asked me ;D.  Nonetheless, I will certainly give them a shot sometime regardless the name!

Yes, I have weighed several of my Steez and compared it to the weights of the Cumulus rods and that is why I said the Cumulus may be a bit lighter.  I also said I would like to try one so Im not sure what part of my post sounded like I had touched one.

I confused when you say may be. What do your Steezs weigh exactly?

fishing user avatarBMoore reply :

Nobody has asked for more "bling" on these rods. As a matter of fact some would like to see less. Nobody has asked for aluminum or chrome parts or anything like that. I would just like to see one without the red fade and with a flat endcap. I'll probably still buy one though because I love shimano stuff.

Hey bantam, could one be ordered without the fade since they are all hand painted?

for what its worth the falcon bucoo claims to be less than 4oz on all its models

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Why no heavy or extra heavy options?  I'd like to see some heavy cover rods with a Heavy/Moderate or Mod. Fast action in there.

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

We tried for different names but it's difficult to find names like cloud names that have not been used. I did not come up with it. I wanted to call them the Canis rods and bring back that series of rods. I loved them and still own several. Maybe my race car referecne as not ideal because of the name. In my head that is what I was thinking when we built the rod. I spec and test the rods. The rod manager comes up with the names.

We do not offer custom colors or finishes on the rods unfortunately. It is actually a not that easy for us or our factory. With all the production schedules throwing in an extra rod or two with a different finish is not that simple. You could get some light sandpaper and a can of Krylon. Then it can be any color you want ;) We went away from the badge cap because everyone is doing it now. We went with the tear drop instead. It also shaved quite a bit of weight off of the rod.

I'm sure we will expand on the series at some point. Right now we kept the SKU's down since it is such an expensive rod for us and getting the components (guides) has been tough. We will be exapnding the Cumara series more this year. I am actually working on some currently along with some other projects.

fishing user avatarThai reply :

You can swap out buttcaps easily so that doesnt really bother me ;) Might have to pick up up when they come out
