Looks like Cabelas will be coming out with a new line of XML rods soon cause the casting models are now on clearance starting at $29.99 for a rod that is normally $139.

Great way to pick up a more than decent rod at a great price. Since right now it's probably just an online special I will order mine and have it shipped to the store.
Sometimes that baitmonkey just gets the best of you
Thanks for the heads-up!
I have a couple and really like these rods. Now I will have to pick up a couple more.
Eric

Yeah I think I will have to pick up a couple as well with one being on of the technique specific rods and a 7ft MH as well. Still less than $100 for 2 great rods
LOL....and I just bought the 6'3" spinning rod not long ago for $70 and thought it was a decent deal. Now it's $30!! I'm going to stop in at the local Cabela's tomorrow after work and see what they have on hand. Thats a heckuva deal for that price!!
I've got 3 customs built on XML blanks that are pretty dang good. If I thought I could ****** up a few and get away with it i'd go for it. I think the baitmonkey has finally met his match with my old lady.

Thanks for the heads up. Is that rod really worth $140, or are Cableas rods like BPS' rod? You know the kind you don't pay full price for.

Yeah I think the rod is worth the $140 original asking price and they usually go on sale when they are bringing out and updated model. Kinda like the Cabelas XMLTi rods which normally are $190 but are also on clearance.
You can't beat the price now though to get one or two
I bought the 6'2" M baitcast rod for $56 shipped. It is still a great deal.
Thanks again.
Darnet, I was at my local cabela's and while they didn't have those rods on sale, there were a bunch of lucky crafts discounted as low as $5.69.
Selected rapala lures were also well discounted.
Thanks for the heads up.
That is a great deal on those rods. I hope that do the same promo on their spinning rods.
I think this is a horrible situation... No one should buy them so that they are still on discount into August.
August is when my promise not to buy more fishing gear expires ;D ;D ;D
I've only had my XMLTi a few weeks, but I'm very pleased with it.
Do any of the XML or the Fish eagle II casting rods have a mod-fast tip? Im looking for a shallow crank/topwater/jerbait rod.
talk about a steal...id jump on this but i just ordered some falcon bucoos and if the wife sees ups dropn off more "long" tubes shell hang me haha.
wow........ the sales got the best of me..... I just bought 3 rods and it costed me 150.92. Normally the rods would have costed me around 480 bucks. so I'm pretty dang happy. thanks for the heads up!!!!
I just purchased two of their split grip models at the store in Wheeling. One was 29.99 and the other was 39.99. Two rods for 74.00 and change. I put the items in the "cart" on their website, then printed that page showing the prices. The folks in the store usually don't have a clue about what is on the website. The cashier looked at me kinda funny when I told her the 139.00 rod was on website for 29.00. She called over a supv. and the supv. looked at my sheet, and said ring them at those prices. The supervisor then asked if she could have my copy so she could alert the other front end people.
i read that you can fish them for 60 days for free, has anyone done that? i was thinking of giving them a try especially if i can return them without hassle.
I was pretty excited about this deal too. Me and a buddy ordered together, 4 rods and 4 reels . Before sale price: $880. After the sale price $260. I'm still having a hard time believing it.
The reels we got also had a nice sale price http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0043165121435a&navCount=13&podId=0043165&parentId=cat601360&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat21404-cat21406-cat601360&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601360&hasJS=true
Here's what I'm wondering though. Anyone know what company makes the blanks for these rods?

Just ordered my first 1pc rod which is the XML 6'6" Model:C66WJ Worm/Jig rod which is normally $139 but with in store pickup now $32.09 which is a steal.
Gotta get myself one of the 7ft 2pc either MH or H rods and then the baitmonkey will be off my back at under $100
Just picked up my pitching and spinner bait rods that I had delivered to the local store. These will be my first split grip rods that I will try, can't wait.
An interesting note, the packing job they do even for the in-store pickup is sweet. The two rods were in a 7.5 foot long 6 inch diameter tube with foam rings holding them on the inside and the rods came inside a XML labeled individual rod bag. When you buy from the store, you don't even get the bag!?!?!?!?
Eric

The last time I ordered a 2pc rod and had it shipped to the store it was packaged the exact same way and the clerks asked if I wanted to keep the shipping tube also. I didn't keep the shipping tube but I also had this latest purchase shipped to the store and only paid the $2.09 in taxes but no shipping fees.

yes, i have done that. i fished an XMLti flipping stick for over 60 days actually and returned it with no problems. to return it, all you have to do is pack it back in same shipping tube it came in, slap the prepaid return shipping label on it and drop it off at UPS. they will deduct $7.50 from your refund for the return shipping (cheap!).
by the way, i just received my XMLti dropshot spinning rod a few days ago and IT IS SWEET!

Yep, I just picked up the same two rods but mine where packed in separate tubes...then placed in a long cardboard box. These are super nice rods for the money
I just picked up a 6' vertical jigging spinning rod (split grip) for $30 at the store. Can hardly wait to try it out. Cabelas does stand behind their stuff. I consider them to have superior customer service.

i asked one of the sales rep at the store about the 60 day deal and they basically straight up told me that they wouldnt honor it and even the employees had difficulty convincing the store to let them do it...interesting to hear the discrepancy

100% , I have been fishing their rods for a long time, says it right on line, print catalog and on all of my receipts.I don't know why or if one of their staff would say such a thing.

sorry, but that sales rep must be confused. cabelas customer service is outstanding and would definitely not hassle you about a refund. perhaps the sales rep was thinking that they could take the rod home and fish it for 60 days without having to pay for it first?
I just checked the Cabelas website and looks like the XML rods are going back to their regular prices. I see only a couple of the regular rods are still at the discount prices but all of the technique specific rods are still on sale.
Just another heads up
I am looking to order some. They say they are backordered.
How long do you typically have to wait before they get new stock in?
Ok I picked my XML worm/jig rod up last night and the power rating on the rod is Heavy but its advertised on the site as a MH and checking with Cabelas to see if all the technique specific rods are Heavy rather than the advertised MH.
Anyone else order a Technique specific XML casting the the power rating was different than what's on the site?

i ordered an XML finesse flipping stick...it was listed as MH online and in the catalog but the wrapper on the rod itself said H. my guess is that some of the wrappers are incorrect. the flipping stick definitely feels like an MH stick compared to my other H-rated flipping sticks. i also have the XMLti dropshot spinning rod which is rated M which i would say is spot on and, if anything, leaning a little more toward ML than MH.
as for the worm/jig rod, ideally they should have a very stiff ("fast") tip. to me, the ideal worm rod is MH and the ideal jig rod should H.

Cabelas emailed me back and stated the label on the rod is incorrect just as you stated and that the rod is in fact a MH and not an H. They rep that emailed me back said to check the blank for the true rating.
Thanks for chiming in Frank
I was playing around with the XMLti's at Cabelas yesterday....these are nice sticks. A rod with Recoils for $100? Jump on it. They aren't on sale in-store, but they will match the internet price.
