Your next rod 2024

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I'm not talking about brands here, but rather technique-specific rods (crankbait, flipping, etc). What will be the next rod you get?

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

A MH spinning rod to replace a broken one I used

for single-hook swimbaits.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

New custom jerkbait rod built by ghoti using a Rainshadow Eternity2 blank from Batson.

:love-093:

fishing user avatarLoomis13 reply :

A crankbait rod with a moderate fast action. Really can't stand the true moderate action I have. And also an all purpose MHF rod at the same time:D

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

thinking about a dedicated frog rod and a dropshot rod. might hold off until later in the year after ive read reviews on some new rods that are hitting the market in the next few months.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Punch rod with a more moderate action than the ex fast one I'm useing now.

fishing user avatarGreenGhostMan reply :

Just placed an order for a new swim jig/chatterbait/spinnerbait rod less than 15 minutes ago.  7'2" MH-Reg Daiwa Tatula. Probably won't be buying another rod for a while, but I'm thinking the next one could be a short (6'6" to 6'10") medium moderate for jerkbaits.  Or another 6'10" MH Daiwa Tatula... such a versatile, work horse rod.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

My next rod is going to be a medium heavy, fast 7' rod to throw lipless cranks.

Probably going to go with a Fenwick HMG70MH-FC.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

damiki rig rod....

fishing user avatarHawkeye21 reply :

Looks like I just found a connection for getting a deal on an Abu Garcia Revo SX baitcast so it looks like I'll also be getting myself a new casting rod.  Most likely a 7' MHF rod.

fishing user avatarWPCfishing reply :

IKE 70-5 power rod. I broke mine....... Great rod by the way. 3/8-5/8 Spinner baits, lipliss cranks, square bills, swim jigs...

Should start seeing damiki rig instructional videos flooding youtube...  I'm sure z-man and other soft plastic companies are drawing up molds for damiki specific flukes as we speak.

fishing user avatarjimf reply :

Spinnerbait rod.  The one I use is fine for most occasions, but it's a little wimpy in the butt for cover.  Which is what I tell myself to justify buying a new rod that I really don't need.  Probably a St. Croix Avid,  maybe a 7' MH/F.  Or maybe I should treat myself to a Legend because I think I deserve it, they have a 6'8" MH/F and I like shorter rods.   So, there is my reason for the Legend.

fishing user avatarFishes in trees reply :

I thought I might need a float & fly rig, but upon further inspection I have a couple of float & fly rods . . . new reel might be nice . . . .I could stand to upgrade my half ounce & up football jig rod  . .. . I get in that situation maybe once or twice a year so how much of a priority is that?    I got a half dozen of the big honker Strike King square bills last month at Academy close outs - so I've got to decide on a rod to throw those on.  There are several candidates already in the arsenal, but a new rod isn't out of the question.

I'd like a lighter & stouter Bubba Drop Shot rod, but I like the telescopic factor of the 7'5" Kistler rod that I currently use for that situation.  So the real answer is I don't know.

If I go to Rogers for their spring sale and they have Fenwick AETOS rods on sale for $100 a hit like they did last year, I'd like to get a couple more jig rods just like the 2 I already have.   I'm pretty certain that once or twice this spring some rod will scream out to me "BUY ME!!" and I will be unable to resist.

fishing user avatarSmelter96 reply :

St.Croix Bass X 6'8" m/ef for the smaller stuff

fishing user avatarPatrickKnight reply :

A medium power spinning rod with more flex than a traditional fast but not to the level of a moderate.

fishing user avatarDubyaDee reply :

Next up is a custom tube jig rod. I'm thinking 7'6" medium or med/light fast.

fishing user avatarBryant Blackmon reply :

Megabass destroyer criffhanger for the lighter stuff

I built that thing to be as light as possible. Spiral wrapped Recoils, a rear grip and butt grip just large enough to be useful. I'm delivering it Monday.

The rod is schweeeet. If Kent hadn't already paid for it, I'd keep it. LOL

This may very well be the next rod I build for myself.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

12 foot crappie jigging rod . I have Bass fishing covered .

fishing user avatarhunterPRO1 reply :

Well I just ordered a 7ft MH/f to replace my broken 6'6" MH/f

Next stick will be a 7'6" h for frogs jigs and flipping, probably have a reel with 25lb mono

I'd love to see some more info on this. I'm always in pursuit of the perfect jerkbait rod. Currently using a dobyns 704cb and a poison adrena 7'2" Med Fast

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I believe my next rod will be a two-piece casting rod of some sort that I can stow away easily for travel as an all-purpose casting setup to complement a couple of 2-piece spinning setups I currently have. The M or MH St. Croix Premier looks about right, but I haven't shopped around much.

Yeah, and in honor of the builder I am matching this rod with a Diawa Alpha.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

Built on the new Rainshadow Eternity2 blank, the unpainted version. Medium power, fast action, 6'8", 1.7 ounce weight blank. Batson calls this a medium. It has a 10-17lb line rating, and 1/4-3/4oz lure rating; the classic Loomis medium-heavy power ratings. In hand, I'd call it a medium. As built weight is 3.5oz, and about 90% of the added weight is on the back end.

Ill put put up some pics after it's delivered to Kent. It ain't right if he doesn't get to see it first.

fishing user avatarOklahoma Mike reply :

Been thinking about a new rod for throwing senkos and some other soft plastics and maybe lighter jigs. Will probably get the 853C JWR - trying to decide between the GLX and NRX.

fishing user avatarlmbfisherman reply :

Looking for two rods, a rod for light jigs (NRX 852C) and a new DS rod.

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

Next rod for jigs.

Replacing my frog/Flipping/pitching rod for sure.7'3"-7'6" HXF

Probably the 7'4" HXF Tatula XT

Also a reason to buy another Tatula CT!

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

Either actually buying my own Dobyns 805/6, so my buddy can have his back, or trading in my DX745 for something smaller.

fishing user avatarmwh33 reply :

Megabass super destroyer for a dedicated senko rod

fishing user avatar1201vilbig reply :

New swimbait rod.

fishing user avatarjoe chum reply :

My new GLX DSR822 will be here on Thursday. Thinking of the new Megabass Orochii XXX Oneten Special sometime this season but looking forward to seeing a picture of roadwarrior's jerkbait road.

fishing user avatarColumbia Craw reply :

My next rod will be the end of my marriage with an extra fast tip.

Yeah, but I'll never take it apart. I've owned other 2pc jdm rods and once they're together you would never know. For some reason that specific rod line is all 2pc.

fishing user avatarFrankN209 reply :

Probably another St. Croix Tournament spinning for finesse.

fishing user avatarTeam9nine reply :

Absolutely no plans at this point to add another rod to the arsenal - I have plenty. Might consider a new reel before long though B)

fishing user avatarS Hovanec reply :

Another dropshot rod would be a good guess.  Maybe a bluegill rod.  Not entirely sure.

fishing user avatartrouttracker reply :

Sold 2 rods, splurged and just took delivery on 4 Dobyns Champion XP rods:

1. Jerkbait 7' 4 power graphite,

2. Crankbait/Jerkbait 7' 5 power glass composite,

3. Chatterbait/Spinnerbait/Buzzbait/Deep Crankbait 7'3" 6 power glass composite and

4. Deep Crankbait/Small Swimbait 8' 5 power glass composite

Custom built by the mob!?

fishing user avatarRichF reply :

Not exactly true to the OP but...I had a mishap with a telescoping, plano bazooka rod tube last year and now I have to replace the following (makes me sick to even type this)....

A 7ft mh St Croix Legend Xtreme

A 6'8 m spinning St Croix Legend Tourney

A 6'10 m spinning St Croix Rage

A 7'0 mh Shimano Crucial

Thank God for reduced replacement costs....

If this didn't happen, I would've went after a new bladed jig rod.  Maybe something in the 7'3 to 7'6 range, mh - h, preferably glass.

fishing user avatarkbeeb374 reply :

Well I am having an irod Jr. Swimbait rod being shipped to me currently.. so probably that one.

man i couldn't fish that damiki rig if i tried, watching the bass live and seeing all of them do it for a few days was enough to turn me off of it.  but yeah, that'd be the guy to build the custom!

A dropshot rod? Now there's a surprise. LOL

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Just bought another Avid 3 days ago.  Didn't need it but it was 30% off so I couldn't just leave it there!

Next rod is likely to be a 2 pc spinning for use in my float tube.  The updated Cabela's Fish Eagle will get the nod here.  Probably 7' M or MH...haven't decided yet.  Great rod for $70!!

fishing user avatarJLWoodman reply :

Just ordered the new FR806SB, but they won't be in Tackle Warehouse until Feb 21. My next rod will be for jigs and lighter flipping applications in light cover.

fishing user avatarMosster47 reply :

Got a 7'6" ML/XF St Croix, Legend Xtreme on the way for drop shotting.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

I just got myself another cadting MH/F daiwa tatula and like it alot, fish with it a few time and caught 7 fish already. The next rod might be another tatula but thinking of ML/F for 1/8 oz stuff for crappies to match my new alphas.

fishing user avatarcraww reply :

A light action spinning Rod for farting around in creeks. Need to research more, want something that's truly a fast action. Most rods that will drift down to 1/32oz or so are too parabolic or whippy.

fishing user avatarclh121787 reply :

Something to pair with the tranx 300. probably a 8 foot custom angle mh swb rod
