Hey guys I was just wondering about shimano reels. I've pretty much converted to dobyns rods but as for reels, I haven't really decided. It seems that lews are great for the money but I like my shimanos more. What are your guy's favorite shimanos? Also anybody get a chance to use JDM shimanos?
For me it's hard to beat the curados.I have curados and cbronarchs.over a dozen of the last 3 generations Of each. I have 1 jdm shimano it's the scorpion 1000xt. It's twin sister is the chronarch/curado 50e. I have one of each.love them all. In my opinion your wasting an extra 25 bucks getting the Scorpion over the chronarch 50e. It's the same exact reel. I really like the curado I's and my 1000xt and 50's. The chronarch ci4 is one sweet reel. But to me it's not worth 100 more than the curado
They are the best, forged from unicorn horn and dragon tears.
My favorite JDM Shimano is the Exscence DC. I have yet to find a reel that can compete with it.

Screw Lews! Get the Scorpion XT1000 or 1001 if you are left handed or the Aldebaran Mg7 while they are still available and you won't regret it.

May give them a try!
I really enjoy my Shimano: CH 50, Curado I's, and Scorpion DC-7.
I consider my self a late comer to fishing Shimano b/c's. However, it was better to be late than never. These reels are great, withstand what ever you throw at them. I fished Abu's and Lews for years, before my first Shimano b/c. I now understand why Shimano has such a huge following. They are great reels.
50's because of the size.

Which curado do you like best? I've heard people aren't big fans of the gs and the es are better but I've also heard of people going with bantams.

That's the reel that got me started into the JDM shimanos. I saw it in a vid. What do you use it for?
I will only speak on equipment I own/owned. the bantam cu 200 is a very good reel but big and bulky for my liking. I have zero experience with the G series. I've seen alot of haters on the G series. I'd bet it's still good especially at a good price. My favorite is the new curado i. The e's and d100's tie for secondOn 10/25/2015 at 10:38 PM, Carterjig68 said:Which curado do you like best? Stradic 1000's and Chronarch 50e's
I started with Shimano 100B's years ago and have stayed with Curado's (except the G) and Chronarchs. My three 100B reels are as good as the day I bought them with no marks on them and they have hundreds of hours on them.. They were really well designed for longevity, which I found to be the case with my Shimano products with no parts needing to be replaced over the years of use. I maintain my own reels which may help.

So I am assuming by your post that you have an Esxscence DC. In that case you probably know about the reels capabilities. There are several reviews I have read that layout the finer details of the reel's features and uses.
I use mine for a variety of techniques. Currently use it for a lot of bigger jigs, plastics, and soft body swimbaits. It would also be a phenomenal frog feel too. The only thing it may not be great at it is cranking or when you want a low IPT. Casting, gear ratio, palming, retrieve, and build quality are all reasons I bought it along with the fun factor of the DC breaking system.
I have a Curado E7 that I have used for the past 6 years on my rig I use for jigs. No problems and I will probably get another curado when this one wears out.

Why would be a good Shimano reel to pair with a 7' M/F St.croix Avid x? Definitely looking for a very low profile and light one

The Aldebaran 50 would be the ultimate in light and low profile.

FIFY
The '13 Metanium will ruin a lot of other reels for you. Everybody needs one (or six).
I just got a Metanium DC and have taken it out on two trips. amazing reel!
I pretty much only use Stradic Ci4+ 2500s for spinning now days. love those things
I've got a battle going on in my tackle room now, I have 3 shimanos and 3 daiwas and a couple of lews here and there. I am still trying to settle down on a brand but I like giving new reels a try. My favorite shimano reel is my Chronarch ci4+, it's so light and versatile I can pretty much cast anything with it. I've also grown fond of the new TWS daiwas. They cast a little differently with their different braking system but over all pretty solid reels. If you're interested in JDM beware of the extra strength bait monkey that comes along with it.
Shimanos:
1 - Chronarch 150 ci4+ HG
1 - Chronarch 201e5 (love this on my crankbait rod)
1 - JDM Scorpion 1001 SVS 4x4 (oldie but goodie!)
Can't say I have a favorite Shimano, but everyone I own has a special place in my lineup.
For what it's worth, I own 20+ Shimano reels.
The Metanium xG is easily my favorite reel. Super smooth and solid. Another thing: you can't go wrong with shimano spinning reels. My brother has three: a Sedona, Sahara and a symetre. All are 2-5 years old and have been passed down from me to him and he has them and they all work like new.
Save your money...buy Lews!
Am I gonna get lynched on this forum???

First Shimano reel purchase was a Core 50Mg7 - and I will NEVER look back. By far, THE BEST baitcaster I've ever had.
I like Daiwa and Shimano about equally as well. For the longest I only used Daiwa but I got a good deal on a couple of citica 200d reels and loved them. I like buying used d and e series reels because they are easily found at great prices, and most are still close to new internally, even when the outside looks a little rough

If you ever want to try any of their new Gen reels or DC let me know. They are very impressive.

That's the best way to say it. "Best baitcaster I ever had". No one can dispute that. When you say, "best baitcaster ever made", that will be argued from now on. Good post!

Hootie, I knew people wouldn't be able to resist
Lews sucks
shimano all day
1-curado 200e7
1-curado 200e5
1-chronarch 50e
1-scorpion xt1000
1-curado 200ihg
1-citica 200e
the newer I series r great but i actually prefer the E series for whatever reason.
I'll stick with my lews and daiwa for now. I've had nothing but issues with every shimano reel I've owned since they switched to the e series. Shimanos customer service went from the best to total crap. My curado d's and old chronarchs are awesome though.
I think I started at Chevy vs. Ford debate here. As far as comfortable and compact in the hand I don't think anything compares to the Lews LFS series. I don't have enough time in Lews to say much more.. I was just trying to stir the pot.

You don´t think we were going to take that bait do you ?
Of course I do...somebody will.
Ford all day i shall not buy new chevys since they bowed down to the fed and still have crappy vehicles .its like me borrowing from the fed so i can make you something and sell it at a ridiculous price with your own tax money. And still have some left over for cruises and 5 car mansions and not one is a GM vehicle
My favorite Shimanos are a Chronarch 100B and Curado 201E7. Although I like my Curado 51Es, I'd rather grab a Daiwa if throwing lighter lures. No experience with the new Shimanos or the JDM Shimanos. Wouldn't mind giving them a try, tho.
Wait until you try a Conquest..
Shimano fan here as well
2-castaic 200 sf
1-curado 200 e5
1-curado 200 e7
2-curado 50e
1-core 50 mg7
2-curado I 200
1-calais 200-5
1-citica 200 D
1-curado 100 DSV
1-stradic c14
4-saharas
3-sedonas
1-sonora
And have owned a few citica Es,more Ds,bantams, and probably forgetting more than a few.Point being you generally can't go wrong with a shimano. Never bought a G so can't comment on them.
Also a shimano fan since day one. First ever reel was an old shimano 2000xt spinning reel when I was 7 years old. Currently I own:
3 citica 200e
Chronarch 200e5
Chronarch 200e7
Chronarch 50e
Curado 50e
Curado I hg
Chronarch ci4 hg
Caius 200
Stradic ci4+ 2500
2 sienne 2500
Could not be happier, highly recommended, especially the 50 size !!!
I just got into Shimano reels this season after 25 yrs of Quantum. I currently own the following:
4-2013 Metaniums
1-2014 Stella
I'm dying to get the new Calcutta Conquest 100HG. Such a beauty. Maybe another Stella too.
