diawa steez rod and reel combos 2024

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

i went to the annual nybass seminar on feb. 18 and got to put my hands on a few of these combos.to be honest,if i made $500000 a year i would have nothing but these in my collection.oh my god they are weightless.they are also the closet thing to balanced in a baitcaster i have ever seen.it would take very little weight to balance them perfectly.since i don't make that much money i guess i will keep playing the lottery!!

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

I'm really interested in the Steez combo.something about a 10oz combo really is appealing.  Which size rods did you get to handle?  They had the 6 7' model at Bass Pro and it felt really good.  That rod was there for like 2 days and then someone scooped it up.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

If money grew on trees , I definately would have a few of them. BUT

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

6-2 and 6-7

fishing user avatarLil Baby Cousin Ray-Ray reply :

who uses these combos. you dont even see the pros doing it. i find it hard to believe the market is there for such expensive equipment.

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

The rod prices are in the ballpark of the GLX Loomis rods actually so I'd say there is a market for this high end stuff. Me, personally.I'd like to get me one of those set ups. I went thru college with a red Abu 5000-c baitcaster on a 2 piece Rhino spinning rod(fished the rod upside down) so I like to think I paid my dues..The Steez combos are cutting edge in terms of technology and I think it would be awesome to experience fishing with one of those for the rest of my life. By the way, caught a bunch of fish with my college rod as there were a few ponds on campus and hardly anyone fished them.

I think Ish Monroe uses some of the Steez line. I'm sure the Daiwa sponsored folks have a few in their arsenal.

C'mon dude, you live is San Diego where the average house is in excess of $300,000, maybe $400,000.

You can't drive ten miles anywhere in the region without passing a few dozen Lexus, Mercedes, et. al. Why would you think there wouldn't be a market for a $800 fishing combo. There's plenty of people, particularly in southern California that spend more money than that on dinner! What's a weekend at La Costa cost these days? Last time I was there a round of golf, drinks, breakfast-lunch & dinner, and spa time for the wife was something north of two big ones.

I would rather have the rod and reel, even if it's the WRONG brand ::o. At least I'd have something to show for the money.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

Is there a market ..... For sure!!!!!

Is it huge .... No.  The Steez line is not to target the majority of us fisherman.  It's meant to target the "tackle enthusiast" if you will.  It's not like Diawa is putting all their eggs in one basket either.  They have plenty of products that target the average joe.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

definately a market for high end bass fishing gear- just like there is a market for bently's and ferrari's in the auto world...

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

A fishing buddy of mine just bought a Steez and a Lommis. His other older reels consisted of a Ryobi spinning reel and a, used to be red, Abu Garcia Ambassedeur. He is not exactly a tackle enthusiast but he wanted a new reel, the best if he could get it. All he had to do is quit smoking.

He smoked three packs a week. That's about $10 a week in his pocket or $520 a year. He also said his insurance was cheaper at work. He put away that extra cash for a year and "Hello Steez and a new G. Loomis GLX MBR842C". We have not been able to wipe the smile from his face.

Actually almost every pro on Diawa's prostaff are now using either the Steez line or the old TD-X's.

That is too friggin' funny.  I'm on that plan also......Quit Jan 1 and a Steez combo is my reward to myself after 1 year of not smoking....next New Year's.  I even have the red Abu Garcia....  But I got a long way to go, I smoked about a pack a day and I already have a few nice combos.

Wait a second....am I your fishing buddy??   :o

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Most people buy what they can afford. Are the prices of the Steez products justafiable ?

If you have that mind set , they are.

fishing user avatarJT Bagwell reply :

I think the prices of a lot of things are getting carried away.

When I was a kid I could get a good spinnerbait for a couple of bucks. Now you

can't hardly find a good one for under $7-$10. I bought 6 crankbaits the other day that

were 33% off and they still cost me over $60. $50,000 will quickly be the norm for bassboats.

It is just getting crazy.

JT Bagwell

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

The Steez rods are indeed pretty amazing.  I pulled the trigger on one, and three more soon followed.  I've been a die hard Loomis guy for a couple of years now, but the Steez are just so light and balanced, and I love the air foam grips.

fishing user avatarflippin4it. reply :

In the area in which I live, Fairfax County in Virginia. The cost of living keeps people like me from being able to buy rods and reels that cost $500 a peice. My wife and I make about 110k conbined and are just making ends meet. Between our 2 girls (Soccer, swimming, piano, violin and now fashion for the oldest), a car payment. A townhouse will run you 450-500k...........I'm middle class here.

The Steez is the lightest and smothest combo I have held. But I will have to settle with my Kistler/ Pflueger Summit combo. Poor me! LOL. "RICH ON LIFE AND EMPTY POCKETS."

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

It's all about prioritys..........I wanna keep the light's on, food on the table, AND MOST IMPORTANT stay out of credit card debt. I feel pretty fortunate to have been able to buy every thing I own with cash I earned, includeing a new $12K bass tracker this year., without effecting the family income 1 bit. Some guys like me, loath oweing money on everything, and anything..........especialy what ammounts to "toys", other guys', like my brother -in-law, owe money on every thing. Includeing the pack of gum he just "bought".

If you have ever been in DEEP to the credit cards (I was at one time and it took 10 LONG years of hard work and sacrifice to get out of it free and clear doing it the right way). It tought me a valuable lesson.........pay cash, or go with out........it's not the end of the world if you have to actually save up to buy that new "toy" you want. I look at my brother -in-law and just feel bad for him, cause sooner or later it's gonna hurt.........I try to talk him out of some of the things he "buys" but..........live and learn is the only thing going to teach him.

fishing user avatarcastaway reply :

Dodgeguy, Your heart is not really set on it, or you would find a way to save up and buy it if you really wanted it.I make under $25,000.00 a year and I can afford to buy one.I am just short of another G Loomis rod, A GLX this time. ;)Ivan

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

you must not have kids or a wife spending your $. ;D

I totally agree with DG, Castaway must not have seen my previous post about "kids". I left the wife out of it.

Exactly... I went to my daughter's school tonight and found out tuition is going up... Walking out, my wife looked at me and asked why I had this funny look on my face... I turned to her and said "do you know how many rods, reels, lures (or even a down payment on a nice boat) I could buy with that cash?" She seems to think my daughter's education is more important! ::o Guess the Steez won't be on my list when I go to BPS tomorrow!  :'(

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Steez rods and reels are what I consider "exotics".   I'm steadily replacing my personal gear with their rods and reels.

John, In posting what you have said,I think it is too late to sit you down and have a talk about the birds and the bees and about wrapping that weasel.....

Your only option is to be a dead beat Dad, or go without, since being a dead beat dad is not where its at, come on up north this summer and we will go fishing anyway , even though you say you cannot afford to own one of these high dollar products. ;)Ivan

$800/combo

_____________  = 26 Berkley Lightnin' Rods!!!

$30

I'm not gonna get into the whole LR series are crap since they're not GLoomis or St. Croix. Can't get either one of those at wal-mart, and you dang sure can't get one without the wife noticing! Least not in my house! I'd love to have a steez or gl, or st. croix, but as seldom as I get to fish with work and law school, I like knowing that I can go to wally world and pick up a quality rod and reel for that matter and not have to bat an eye! :o

But yes I would degrade myself for a steez setup!

fishing user avatarguest reply :

when I bought my steez reel, the salesman were foaming at the mouth to get me to buy a steez rod.

They practically picked me up and carried me to the rod section to check them out.

I gotta tell you guys these are the lightest, most beautiful, and amazingly well balanced rods I ever handled.  I would have bought one, seriously, they are elegant wands.  You may not catch more fish, but your fishing pleasure will increase exponentially.  I declined because I need my St. Croix, and G Loomis, idiot proof warranty.

Daiwa has good customer service.  but I doubt if I stepped on my steez rod they would send me another one for $50.00

that being said, it was an aesthetic experience.  Daiwa has turned fishing equipment into transcendental instruments.

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

They may not replace the rod for any reason but I think they have a lifetime limited warranty....

Alot of rod companies will offer a similar sounding lifetime limited warranty on their higher end rods.  but that means different things in different companies.  Loomis will replace any rod for any reason at $50.00 plus shipping.  If it's a defect they replace for free.  The 50 bucks is the "idiot" part I spoke of,

St. croix sent me a brand new tournament bass rod when I broke the reel seat from overtightening.  Not a defect but yet another "idiot' move.  It cost me $20.00 plus shipping.

When I start hearing stories about guys closing thier truck doors on thier new $350.00 steez rod and Daiwa replaces it for 50.  then we can talk.

by the way, the reel is fabulous.

fishing user avatarsunfishkid reply :

I cant believe touched one. I have never been within 100 miles of one. i would never wash my hands if i got to touch a steez

sunfishkid,

Welcome aboard!

avid,

The G.Loomis Xpeditor service is $50 "all in", no additioanl charge for shipping.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

True - and sometimes they dont even charge that! I had a broken rod and they replaced it no questions asked. all I did was send in the rod and paid for shipping I think -

From what I hear with the Steez rod at least you will get a rod with plenty of backbone

I hear ya/   And I gotta tell ya. This is the rod to do it with.  I very seriously considered it. but I do have a good track record with my equipiment.  but I have had $350.00 rods go over the side, and even loomis won't replace that so who knows.

Right now I am very well outfitted with quality equipment.   but I gotta tell ya, this steez rod has raised the bar IMO.

and there may be one in my future just because I HAVE to own one.  I'm sure you know what I mean.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

That is the problem with these rods Avid.  Once you own one, cast it, and catch a few fish on it, you want more.  and more.  and...

Daiwa definitely raised the bar with this series.  In my opinion nothing else compares right now.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

there was a fishing show near me and i checked out that new diawa steez rod and reel baitcaster and i must admit might be the most balenced reel n rod combo out there not that i would buy a diawa but def a nice setup, ill still stick with shimano tho :o. as far as the steez spinning reel nice but i dont think as good as a stella imo of course

Couldn't have said it better myself. Roadwarrior is being nice when he said 10 miles. Here is Los Angeles try 10 seconds.  ::) I'm not exaggerating.

I know a few people who already have Steez combos. There seems to be a decent amount of demand considering the price.

fishing user avatarGotta Love It reply :

I went to the local outdoor expo tonight and picked up (didn't buy, just picked up...  LOL) both the baitcaster and the spinning combo...  all I can say is WOW!!!!  Amazing how light and balanced the setup was!!!  I can't imagine what it feels like hooking up with a fish on these rods and reels!!!  Maybe I could refinance my house to buy a few... :o

I almost wish this topic hasn't come up, because I'm an incorrigible fan of Daiwa rods :o

The problem is, my wife fishes too, so if I succumb to a Steez outfit, I'll have to buy TWO combos! >:)

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

And you suffer Roger ?

You suffer because instead of having two combos for you and you alone you have to share one with your wife.  :o

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

About three weeks ago I went to BPS and looked at a Steez baitcaster.  It was amazing to say the least but at nearly $500 with tax, I purchased the last 100SHLA Zillion instead.   At the time they had a huge supply of Steez reels.

Well, I went back today with an old reel to trade in for a discount on a new Steez and it was the only reel they were sold out of.  I guess, (according to the salesman), about 30+ other people had the same idea I did this Sunday.  They were fully stocked as of Friday but with the sale even the displays were gone.

Will people spend the cash on reel like this?

After what I saw today>      ABSOLUTELY!!!!

They just have to wait for them to go on sale. :o

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Fishtank,

The Zillion is an awesome reel in itself.  A very close second to the Steez in my opinion.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

They seem incredible and if soemone can afford them AINT NOBODYS BUSINESS BUT THEIR OWN!!!!!!
