Hey guys, I'm 16 and just getting serious about fishing, I have a Curado 200e7, and I like it, but I want a brand new reel and I am probably going to buy a Curado G series to tide myself over until I save up for the Core.
I am set on Shimano, but want some input on the newer Curado, and whether or not I should just go an extra 40 bucks and get a Chronarch.
I currently have a Caenan on a lightweight medium rod, and a Curado 200e7 on a BPS Matrix something medium heavy rod. I'm thinking another Curado might be fun, or should I just go for the Chronarch?
$7.25 an hour doesn't add up very fast when you have an expensive taste.
The current Chronarch is same reels as the E7 Curado with only very minor differences. If you're on a budget you can pick up a Citica that will catch just as many fish as the other two. Whether or not the next model up is worth the money is really a personal preference. Shimano has a neat thing on the website that lets you compare models specs side by side.
I am on a budget, but considering I will be using a reel I buy for years to come I don't want to worry about a <100 dollar difference because I've learned that you almost always get what you pay for.
If you are the type of person that take care of your gear and know that this will last for many many years to come. I'd go for the Chronarch or the E7 Curado if they still have it on sale.
If your just going to use the heck out of the your reel for maybe 2-3 year and hope to catch some good bass memory, just enjoy it on a Citica.
If I was you I would go with the Chronarch, just because I think the E series is better than the G.
keep the e series and save for a chronarch, the g series is garbage. Btw I'm 16 with a core and a zillion type R. Slowly saving up for that megabass reel lolOn 8/13/2013 at 11:17 AM, JD96 said:Hey guys, I'm 16 and just getting serious about fishing, I have a Curado 200e7, and I like it, but I want a brand new reel and I am probably going to buy a Curado G series to tide myself over until I save up for the Core.

Keep the E series and save the money for the Core. You won't notice that much differences in the Curado E series vs Chronarch E series.

Garbage is a very strong word. Both the Citica and Curado G are fine reels.
I do apologize for that. It isn't garbage but the components into the reel are not as good as the e series and it is a downgrade from the e series. Just speaking my opinion and I do strongly dislike the g series and do not reccomend it
lol the only difference in the chronarch and curado E is the color. But I agree, either go with a chronarch or if you can go with a core. I absolutely love mine and refuse to even let people touch it.On 8/13/2013 at 1:19 PM, camman said:Keep the E series and save the money for the Core. I've got two and love em. I have a Chronarch on my flipping jig rod and prefer it over the Curado G. That said, I have a G on my swim jig rod. It gets used more due to not having the best of cover in my local lakes. I've been meaning to upgrade it to a Chronarch, but I like it so much, I hate to part with it or take it out of the "A" team.
Chances are if your dead set on a Shimano now, you will more than likely be keeping it for some time. If I had it to do over again, I would have grabbed the Chronarch in the first place and spent the extra money.
If you looking for a good deal on one, hit up JFranco. hes a mod here and last I knew he had a 200E7 spooled with Tatsu, properly lubed and upgraded drag for like 190 shipped. If I have enough OT out of this next check, I'm going to grab it and the dobyns DX, provided he still has it.
I have a Curado G6, it's a fine reel. Caught a 5 pounder on it the other day, it didn't explode or anything . It will cast just as far as my Lew's TP and Okuma Serrano. If I recall the drop in bearings from the E to the G were in the handle. For a "5 bearing reel" it's very smooth. The line guide is SIC in the G series, which is good enough material for rod guides so to me it's not an issue. Especially considering you can get them NIB on the auction site for $125-$130.
I appreciate the replies!
Looks like I will be going for a Chronarch.
I just got a job so I'll work about 30 hours before I can get it but that's a week so no biggie.
Lastly, does anyone know of a replacement handle for a Curado E? I have seen a couple but can't find them now.

X2
I have looked at the Citica. Not a big fan of it, and if the Chronarch is the same as my Curado that's perfect, it'll get babied and I can pond hop the Curado and not stress too much.
My budget seems to impact my bait selection more. I can justify expensive rods reels and jigs.
Knock off senko worms are all I buy though haha.
The G series is just fine and work as well as my E series, it seems this post comes up a lot. Sure the G series was downgraded, but please compare the price. They wanted to market a reel within the price range. Even with the downgrade the performance is on par and have stated this before actually can outcast my Es. I like the profile better than my E series too and I find I don't go OMGZ THE G IS GARBAGE! When I fish them side by side.
I also own the Citica Gs, 1 Curado B, Chronarch 50MG, Chronarch Es all great performers and my newest addition Chronarch CI4+.. All of these reels you couldn't go wrong with.
My recommendation if you can afford it, get the Chronarch E. Since I believe in buy the best you can afford. OR if you really want to save it, get the CI4+. For 270 retail.
Also, I find most people just regurgitate what is stated online...instead of actually fishing one.
The G is still an upgrade over the reel put out before the E - the D series. The E was a real bonus for the money, and the fact that it's the basis for the Chronarch speaks volumes of the quality of the reel. My advice, if you need a reel now, and it has to be a Shimano, get the Curado G. If you can save up, look for a gently used Curado E or a new Chronarch E.
I wouldn't waste the money for the CuradoG, get the CiticaG, its almost the same reel and performance. Save your money for some baits, or future reel purchase.

Neither does $15 an hour or $30 an hour. Especially if you are married and/or living in your own home.
Its all in people head...there is nothing wrong with the curado g...here the honest truth my curado g can out cast my chronarch e same dobyns 735c n same line same frog...my curado g takes a lot of abuse since its on my frog rod two in a half years still going strong.....shimano is a shimano peeps...
Good to read, the allure of the Chronarch to me is in the fact that its almost the same as my Curado E and it has to be the best looking reel on the market.
I will definitely look hard at the Curado though.
To me the Citica just feels off, and if its anything like my Caenan it'll sit in the truck bed more than anything.
The smooth as glass feel and very loose spool without losing complete control is why I love my Curado E. if the G has that feel I'll be ok with it.
People talk about pulling power with reels but having your drag tightened down is stupid to me, I like using the rod and reel to pull a fish in not just the reel.
If we were to conduct a blind fold test, I would put a hefty wager that 9 out of 10 guys blind folded and handed a Curado E and G wouldn't know the difference just by casting it out. Yes, there are probably a select few that might be able to tell but not your average angler. They are both fine reels and either would serve you well. Don't fall for the negative comments towards G's, you can still haul in plenty of trophy bass. As long as you take care of your stuff, it should last you many years of fishing.

That may be, but I would bet you a ton of money I can tell the difference in MY Chronarch E series and the Curado G series. I can tell a difference between the Curado E series and the Chronarch.

I definitely agree I can tell the difference between the Chronarch E and Curado G. I'll also agree that I can tell the difference between my Chronarch and Curado E, but it still doesn't rule out the G and E feeling that much different. Just trying to figure out what point you were trying to make? I am in agreement overall the Chronarch is built almost the same, but the minor improvements when I fish them with the Curado E, I find the Chronarch smoother in performance.
Another vote for the citica e or g.....i have both and they are both good reels and willl last for years and if you want you can upgrade during once of your yealry cleanings and get to pretty much the same performance level of a curado.
Also think about how many hours you are working at 7.25 an hour for that difference in price. I do that myself when it comes to making decisions and it helps me to decide if it is worth that much more work.

LMG, I didn't think you could shoot down ANY Shimano product. Surely you aren't slowly turning into a LEWSER..... lol

Now wouldn't that be epic.
i have both and wish i got 2 chronarchs instead for extra $40...
Curado G advantages over Citica G:
Crankshaft bearing
Larger handle knobs
Slightly different spool brake hub
Different cosmetics
Does that warrant $30 over the Citica G? It depends on the angler. Personally, I don't think so. If you need a reel now, I'd go with a Citica D, E, or G. The E will be most similar to your Curado E and can be upgraded to Curado E specs if you really want. After the E I'd take the D, and then the G. I can tell you from firsthand experience that the D series was built better than the G. The G's are fine reels, but in my opinion a D or E series reel is still better. Any of them.

I only have 1, but its a Super Duty. Oh crap, cats out.
you're looking at spending roughly 160 for the current curado G. The labor day sales are roughly 2 weeks away and lots of sites(not all, but there are some) will run sales making the chronarch E the same price. Wait until then. If you can't wait and must have the reel now, know that the frame you will be holding is based on the same platform of the caenen (shape wise). if that reel is comfortable for you to hold then you won't have any issues with the reel. granted the mechanics of the reel aren't the same as the E series, calling the reel garbage or junk is ridiculous. I dont own any of them mostly because I prefer the 50 size platforms and the G and even E 200 series feel a little too bulk to me. The reel will last you for probably quite some time if taken care of properly. If you have a Dick's sporting goods around you, they discontinued the citicaG this past week and it can be had for 50$ if you can still find them...or if the same is even in your area.

This is where the fact that I have a pretty stellar job and am gonna be working a bunch anyways, I just got hired at a golf course (I'm a better golfer than a fisherman) and I don't really mind working, to me the Chronarch is worth another 7 hours or so, and if my paycheck is short of the Chronarch by 50 bucks or so my dad will cover it and let me repay him the next check. I am absolutely set on golf stuff with 2 years of investment into a high end bag setup, I was given a sweet ass truck that needs nothing, and I spend pretty much every penny on fishing anyway.
When I need tackle my dad lets me dig into his "pro shop" and select a few things to use. I have it pretty set but I am building my rod and reel collection now.
Then comes the whole "saving for a boat" idea that will take over a year.
Since when is 7.25 an hour a stellar job? lol you have a lot of growing up to do
Get whatever makes you happy because in a week or so it will change.....that is how fishing gear goes for some people.

7.25 an hour is what every honestly employed 16 year old usually makes. But I don't bag groceries or ask someone if they want fries, working at a golf course is pretty stellar to me, rinse off carts, ride around in a range cart.
Pretty cool to me. And I think it's stellar.
P.S.
I'm 16, if the fact that I think my job is pretty cool means I need to grow up then I don't want to.
so it is more stellar because you enjoy it...that i can totally understand. All I meant was......ahh never mind.
Work as much as you want to buy your toys and enjoy them as much as you can. There is a reason it took me 12 years or so to graduate college.....with a bachelors degree. To many hobbies and places to go
All I meant is I don't know any 16 year olds making much more than Minimum wage without working for family or whatever.
I'm happy I don't work at a grocery store or some crappy job..
But my dad worked as salesman at a Fishing/Hunting store growing up so I'll never have it as awesome as he did.
He was 17 in charge of what to order who to order it from what's gonna get bit and such so he got some freebies when the reps came around.

Hold on now, you didn't want him crapping on your job, so don't crap on the kid who works in the grocery store.

There is no such thing as a crappy job if it pays the bills or feeds the family. I was taught very young that there are certain jobs that may not be pleasant but they nee to be done and to never look down on the people who do them because you never know if you will be that person one day.
Sounds to me like the OP has a little bit of a silver spoon in his mouth but i digress.....back to your regularly scheduled programming.
When did I look down on anyone? I would not enjoy that job at all I love the outdoors and some don't like the heat or cold but I don't mind it.
If I had a silver spoon in my mouth I wouldn't have looked for a job and APPLIED at a grocery store.
Nor would I be thinking about a Curado, I would just buy a Core.
For me working inside a grocery store or in retail would be miserable. Some enjoy that.

FYI - why the other few posters who think you were looking down on the bagger and fries guy. Your post maybe interpreted that way is all. Better way of putting it would've been not saying anything at all. Your other posts kind of makes you come off that way too. But it really doesn't matter imo, we are talking about fishing. I don't want to talk about my 'job'..
WOW,,,,I would have loved to have a Curado G7, when I was 16!!! With that said, I like the E7 better,

They really need to offer that Super Duty in LH retrieve. Frogging is killing my reels.

Never happen. The Super Duty is the only Lews I actually like. I will keep my Shimanos, they perform way better.
I like the e series over g so I would take the chronarch over the g series if I was buying a new reel.
