Saw two new JDM Shimanos on Japan Tackle tonight listed as new 2015 reels. One is the Metanium DC, the other is an Aldeberan in a 50 frame. The Aldeberan looks like a cross between a smaller Curado I and the Chronarch CI4+. Might hopefully mean some new USDM Shimanos being released soon?

Edit: sorry i just read the 2015 reels post and seems this news maybe already well known.
The Aldeberan looks like it will replace the Core. Very sweat looking reel.
They look good. I'm really excited about the 300/400 sized Comquests too.
New Aldebaran weight at 4.7 oz You can see the svs adjustment dial and shallower spool. Frame might be made of CI4+, but the price suggests it may stay Magnesium.
New Metanium DC is supposed to have a new IDC5. Excited to see what that is all about. May have knobs like the new Conquests.
Yup, seems it advertises a ci4+ side plate..
Magnesium & Ci4+ that's a sweet reel right there!
If it's a Mag reel..
Aldebaran 50 with svs infinity, I'll take 2 please. Cant wait to put that on my cumulus!
i want that metanium dc
Am I the only person feel those two reels look like ninja turtles?

Nah, I'm with you. I don't think I'm going to buy one.

By dog, they do don't they. I don't want no dang turtle reel.
Hootie
4.7 oz is impressive. However to be honest it would be difficult to balance on most rod especially for heavier applications.
I'm in the market for another reel, looking for something that will pitch really well and was debating between another Chronarch CI4+, a Metanium, or a Core/Chronarch 50. Seeing the new Aldeberan and the disappearance of the Chronarchs/Cores from BPS site and catalog hoping there's some new options coming out at the classic. Would I be correct to assume the new Aldeberan is more finesse oriented then the Metanium?
Definitely! It'll be a 50 series I believe so right off the bat I assume it'll be a shallower spool. I still don't think it'll be a true all out finesse reel as the Adlebaran BFS takes that role.

That spool does look a lot shallower than the current Aldebaran

That's what I thought, and the listed line capacity is about 30yd less then a Chronarch 50.

They might shock us and release the BFS version alongside the regular version.
That would be nice. I never had issues with VBS but I like SVS infinit more.

This is one of the ugliest reels from Shimano. That hood doesn't look right to me. My opinion might change when I see some better pictures though.
The Aldebaran doesn't have a "shallow" spool persay, though capacity is limited due to the size. Capacity is: 10/100-12/80-14/70
Only 5 yards less than the Core 50.
I'm hoping the 32mm Yumeya Spool fits in the new Aldebaran.

You're right it's closer to the Chronarch/Core 50s then I stated. The 30 yd difference was a comparison to the Metanium.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A NEW 50 SIZE LOW PRO!!!!!!!!!!! I bet they come out with a USDM version for Icast.
Based on recent years, I'm assuming they just bring the Aldebaran here and raise the price, ie. Antares, Conquest, Metanium. On 1/17/2015 at 4:55 AM, JeziHogg said:YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A NEW 50 SIZE LOW PRO!!!!!!!!!!! I bet they come out with a USDM version for Icast.
Either way, I gotta wait until April for the Lefty.

I'm gonna guess no since the braking system is going to be different. There might be a shallower spool option seeing as the released the Metanium with a shallow spool option immediately

You are right! I didn't even think about the different braking system.
d**n, I thought I was through buying reels for at least 6 months.

Hurry up with a 50i already
Woot Woot, I can't leave the Shimano camp for Daiwa just yet. It's getting better and better. People said the reel was ugly.....I think it's bad ass!

I love it's look as well, the spec's look good, still wandering if it's a magnesium or ci4+ frame.. Between this reel or the conquest I think this will be the first!
I hope this is the exact color. Not feeling the lighter silver from the original picture.

It looks like its going to have a metal frame of some sort. My guess is magnesium since the weight is so low.

Liking that a lot more. That spool doesn't look as shallow either. This is going to make some hard decisions for me. Then again maybe I will just get one of these and a Metanium?
Oh and JapanTackle is taking preorders for $335 right now on the Aldeberan.
Nice a tuned Aldebaran BFS, unfortunately it doesn't look like anything I couldnt do with Avail parts.
With the new 50 sized Aldebaran, thunk they'll come out with a new 50 sized Core?
Nope. I think the 50 sized Aldebaran is the new 50 sized Core. I think they just bring it over, same as the Antares and Metanium. On 1/23/2015 at 12:16 AM, JeziHogg said:With the new 50 sized Aldebaran, thunk they'll come out with a new 50 sized Core?
Well they did it with the Aldebaran Mg7 and the Core Mg7 (same reels different colors) So it's a safe assumption. EIther way I'm getting like 5 of those 50 sized Aldebarans.
They're both the same reel except name and cosmetics. The core is just the US name. With shimano bringing over the Antares and Metanium I have a feeling they'll keep the name Aldebaran even for the US marker. Well I think.......
Core name might go away altogether. They are selling USDM reels in Japan now, first was the Chronarch Ci4, now the curado. Seems redundant since they have the scorpion.
I prefer keeping the same name. The market that buys JDM gears over the US is so small anyways. Example buying a scorpion over a Curado. Very very little difference. I can see a reason for it if the JDM version had much more to their counter part.

I guess I'm the minority but based on the photos, I'm not a fan. I guess it's new Conquests and old 51's for me.
Are these coming out at the end of Feb or in March sometime?
I agree, the Aldebaran looks bad ass except for the knob caps.
The new Aldebaran is listed at TW. Feb 19.

Thanks
Screw that! Over $400.00 at TW and under $300.00 at Digitaka. I know where I will be buying mine. LOL
