Whats your Cranking Set Up? 2024

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

What kind of rod, reel, and line is on your cranking set up, or set ups?

gear ratio, and rod stiffness and all please.  Looking to buy a rod and reel for cranking and would like to see what you all use.

fishing user avatar-nick- reply :

St. Croix Premier cranking rod 7' Moderate action and medium power paired with a BPS David Fritts cranking reel with a 5.2.1 gear ratio. Excellent rod and reel! Especially for the price you can't beat that crankin reel.

fishing user avatarkms399 reply :

7' st. croix avid med-hvy moderate crank bait rod with a shimano curado 5:2-1 gear ratio. spooled with 10# suffix braid, I know I know but it works great for me!

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

G Loomis Bronzeback SMR814C-CB (Med-Hvy Power & Mod-Fast Action, Lure Rating: 3/8 oz. to 1 oz.) & Abu Garcia Revo RC (7.0:1)

Shallow to Medium Running Crankbaits & Lipless Crankbaits:

G Loomis GLX CBR855C (Med-Hvy Power & Mod-Fast Action, Lure Rating: 3/8 oz. to 1 oz.) & Daiwa Sol (5.4:1)

Deep Diving Crankbaits:

G Loomis SWBR953C (Not Yet Used) (Med-Light Power & Mod-Fast Action, Lure Rating: 1/2 oz. to 2 oz.) & Abu Garcia Revo Winch (5.4:1)

I have XPS Flourocarbon 12 lb. Line on all three set-ups.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Mine are old, but I like them. I have 2 different Team Daiwa IM6 Powermesh rods that I got somewhere around 1996 or so. Both are 7' telescoping rods. One is rated for 3/16 to 5/8 oz lures and the other is rated for 1/2oz to 1 oz lures. The heavier rod pairs with my old (but in great shape) Team Daiwa TD1-pi (5.1:1) and the lighter rod pairs with a old Team Daiwa TD1-hi (6.3:1). I use Trilene 10lb XT on both.

I don't crank a lot (or not as much as I should) so I don't have much tied up in these rigs, but even so they work well for me. Before these, I was all about glass rods, but I've come to like graphite better.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

To change lanes for just a minute....Isn't Angler's World the greatest little tackle shop in the world? Jack has more stuff in that little building than Dick's and Gander Mtn. combined!!!

Any members here that are within 100 miles of Indy owe it to themselves to stop by this store. It's in Greenfield, IN. About 20 miles east of Indy.

OK, back in my lane now...

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Since I use lighter finesse cranks a lot, I use a 6'6" fiberglass/graphite mix spinning rod (ugly stik lite or zebco gatorback) with a spinning reel and 6 to 10 pound mono. If I'm throwing heavier, deeper divers, I'll use a casting reel with a similiar rod and 10 - 12 pound mono. With jerkbaits, I prefer braid though, as you get better action.
