I like the Curado better in black 2024

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

The Japanese Curado is black with a black anodized spool.  If it's under $200 like the Amercan version....I'll be buying one.

Nice looking, for sure!!

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

Very nice, and it even comes in a 6:3:1 gear ratio.

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

I think its actually a color that changes. It should have that classic burgandy color from what I have been told. Who knows Shimano Japan is sneaky and they do things behind our back all the time  >:D

With no disrespect meant to you, your boss and the marketing guys...  the North America business should ask for their (Japanese) input more often.

They've had a few things that it seems "all" of us would have really liked.

I'll wait for Icast though...  just don't let me down (I'm already stashing cash in a separate account)   :)

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

We actually spec our reels first many times. Then they change things after the reel has been designed for us. Of course they do it without asking us or letting us know what they did until we see it in the catalog or on the internet. Many times their reels are not better or worse, just appearance and a few bearings added to those tiny handles  ;D

If I could only tell you guys more about certain things. I think more of you would understand why things are the way they are.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

Nope, green is king.

This how the Scorpion 1000 looks at Japantackle:

This is how it really looks:

The old mean green fishing machine also has that chameleon finish, depending upon the angle of the light it looks green or it looks brownish/purpleish.

fishing user avatarmattm reply :

I prefer the black as well.  The black spool is pretty cool.

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

I had a few Scorpion 1000's, and the burgundy was decent, but black would have been better.  Japan Tackle's picture of the Scorpion that looks black isn't a closeup, and I guess it kind of makes sense that from a distance it could look black.  However, that pic of the new Scorpion XT is a closeup....and any available light should show the burgundy transition.  If it is burgundy....it baffles me that it didn't show up in the pic.  The scorpion, like the green curado, was a huge seller and it would make sense that it would be burgundy again.....but a man can dream.  I guess we'll have to wait.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

The 200E looks black from one perspective, greenish/gold from another, brown/green from another.

The paint on the reel is amazing.

i was gunna say when i took mine out of the box the first thing that came to my mind is "this thing is black". after moving to the basement did i notice the reel is green.

as long as it does what i want it can be hot pink in color.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

Actually; the Scorpion has been the same price as the Curado for as long as I can remember.  This is a common perception though...many think because its a japanese reel that it is expensive.  It may be $20 more or so than the Curado just due to the dollar being low right now compared to the Japanese Yen.  The Japanese Curado (Scorpion) is what started the JDM reel craze many years ago; it was the same price (roughly) as the Curado B, yet offered a significantly lighter titanium ported spool, adjustable centrifugal brakes, and an aluminum spool tension knob.  Essentially more for your money.  The short handle was the only drawback, but it didn't bother most.

I wouldn't mind if all my reels were pink.  I look gooooood in pink, it really brings out the blue in my eyes.

Yeh I like the green. I match it up with a green hat and green socks 8-)

fishing user avatarMONSTERhudd reply :

I like the Curado in green better. I gotta get one just because it would match my truck! Now the Revo SX looks sexy in black. Something about those sharp edges. 8-)

I'm painting a couple of my TD-Z's metallic black.  A black reel just looks mean on a rod IMO.

fishing user avatarMONSTERhudd reply :

Yeah, I agree a black reel looks BA, but I like the curado more in green. They need to make a reel with a black body and some anodized colored parts. Now that would be sick!

fishing user avatarSimonSays reply :

Geez, and I still think the US curados still have small handles...I wonder how small the jdm ones are...

The old Scorpion handles were 70mm I think.  Very short.  Most don't seem to care, but they bothered me a little.

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

I just saw high quality pictures of the new Scorpion and its not black. Its a dark burgandy/maroon that shifts color like the Curado E. Sorry to spoil everyone's wishes.

Dam.  It makes sense though.  Shimano USA painted the Curado green again hoping to achieve Curado B sales.  The Shimano Scorpion was the best selling Japanese Shimano, and I guess they didn't want to mess with success.

fishing user avatarDuma reply :

Natural,

How do you go about painting your reels?   What kind of primer do you use?  I have a Curado and want it black too....

fishing user avatar21farms reply :

are we sure that isn't the japanese citica? curados have larger septon grips and the size and shape of these look like citica E's. plus, the 6.3 to 1 gear ratio is more like our citica.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Is that the Skeet Leese model?

Seriously, don't you guys have your own board for comparing your woodies?

You don't have to prime them.  I started painting my 6 TD-Z's in November, and have just kept postponing finishing them due to my 90 other projects.  I'll give a tutorial soon...I've started on them again, but you must have an airbrush if you want it to look like a factory paint job.  I used House of Kolor ready-to-spray airbrush paints available at TCP Global.com.  There are ways to mask that make it easier I'll share when I have the time to do the whole tutorial.  I'm no expert though; there really isn't any info on this out there...and I kind of just went at it and will share my trials and tribulations.

fishing user avatarToledoEF reply :

I want that maroon color paint, I think it looks bad, however I still like my brand new green e5! (so happy I bought it)
